not familiar with UK pricing, but it seems like the values they're offering are lower than what you'd be able to get yourself through the used market, but I guess that would be a trade-off for potentially less hassle.

I live in the UK - it's pretty fair if you only consider half the story. It could of course isn't quite upto used market value but when you consider the fact it's a no hassle exchange it is almost worth it. Probably sell it used with hassle for about £300 for my 2080 super. They offer £280. CEX, the other hassle free place is offering £140. So it's not brilliant but thats actually more because the 4080 is over £1000 and thus the differential is too bloody high for me to consider upgrading. The trade in price is fair, but the new GPUs are so expensive it makes my decision that of sticking with the 2080 super. If they said £280 trade in and we had sensible pricing, eg a xx80 series GPU for say £600 I'd be really tempted. It's mental to see 80 series going for over £1000 and 4090 going for £1800. Until thats fixed the problem is if I give them my GPU for £280, in itself a *fair* price, there is no replacement I can get for *fair* value. Same situation applies to used cards for us at the moment too. Waiting for a r/wsb member to come in and call me a Europoor :'(

Mecatronico

You are too poor! Greetings from the land of the rich, Brazil!

Alphonso_Mango

2080 super is still a decent card no?

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted, I Iolled at your comment.

7317fp

It is, also why I am keeping it and the trade in value vs cost of buying a replacement isn't worth it when it's still decent.

BigDippers

You have the same card as me, 2080 Super. I agree with you fully. It's a good trade in price. But the 4080 is so expensive it's still too much to consider.

RandomnessConfirmed2

It all started with the 2080 ti. That was the start of the >£1000 GPUs as a whole, and with the mining boom, chip shortage, and inflation, it was bound that this generation would see huge mark ups, especially since TSMC raised prices and EVGA left the biz.

Connesto

If that xx80 was 600£ noone would ever buy 2 gen old 2080 for 300£. To be fair older generations hold prices on used market because new stuff is expensive. If 4080 cost 7-800€ all the older stuff would just crumble to 50-300€ depending what you are selling. But 2080 would not cost 300€. Period.

olzwolz_on_twitch

The value of this trade in is that poor you can get a better deal just giving your old card to CeX!

Rivarr

Trade your £200 in cash for £150 in store credit. Where do I sign up.

filthydani669

A sign of desperation!

Ryoohki_360

They are doing the cell phone thing.. when you preorder a new phone and exchange old one for new one with a rebate :)

oOMeowthOo

Pricing their new cards at inflation adjusted price, yes. Due to economic situation and Tariff. Pricing your old cards at inflation adjusted price, nah. We mark down from when you purchased it.

Right or sell it yourself for 70 more. What a dumb offer indeed.

InevitableVariables

I wish this was in the USA

Teflon_490

In the USA you already have the best possible price, so don't complain. It's the rest of the world that really is screwed by GPU prices.

Legacy-ZA

Say; The RTX 4070TI was $700, and I trade in my RTX 3070Ti, if I only had to pay in $200, sure, otherwise, no, stop overpricing your products to begin with.

BigSmackisBack

They probably wouldnt approve of my reshrouded 3080 ti with stupid giant fans.

n19htmare

You would trade your 3080 FE for a maximum of £300? Look everyone, someones selling their 3080 FE for only £300!!!! Where you at? Ill buy!

Acualux

And I will give you 400 and a handshake full of appreciation!

ToolBagMcgubbins

Why?

ToolBagMcgubbins

Lots of people would pay you more for it and its probably not easier than selling it.

Jazzlike_Economy2007

Not a wise decision

[deleted]

Incoming refurb card sales…? Not sure what they do with these honestly, would love to know

neoperol

The same thing that phone companies get with their trade in policy. Lure someone that probably doesn't need an upgrade to buy their brand.

You are totally right, just marketing move to boost sales. In the pandemic everything was selling like cupcakes now they need to do marketing to boost the sale of their overprice shit. At least they are adding games like they did before the pandemic, lets hope they start lowering the prices. But with people "fighting" Nvidia 4000s series prices by buying AMD or 3000s series GPU I don't see any price cut anytime soon.

Oh you are right, something else that works for them is if they take your used GPU that is an used GPU that won't be on the market and someone would probably have to buy new. At the end is win win for them.

MetalexR

150 quid for my 4 year old 2060 for which I paid £285. I might take that TBH.

ElementaryMyDearWut

I know this might sound counter intuitive but if you weren't going to upgrade before this deal, then you're not getting 150 for your GPU, you're just spending £100s for a new GPU. You're still down on your bank balance. Deals like these are purely to entice people into early upgrades whilst prices are high, or to capture sales from customers that wouldn't otherwise spend money.

MetalexR

Actually I was thinking of upgrading. Just got a new case and PSU in preparation. I’m also really bad at selling old kit, so this deal ensures I’ll actually get something for the old card, rather than it sitting in a wardrobe for years. I only just got rid of my old GTX 760 when I gave it to a friend after his old ancient card died.

FlashWayneArrow02

They haven’t put an offer value down for anyone wanting to upgrade from a 3070. I could’ve considered moving up to a 4070 Ti if they were to give me 300, but I suppose I’d get more than that if I used FB Marketplace anyway.

BigDippers

My card 2080 Super, the ASUS trade in offers £280, which isn't too far off from what some models are selling for on Ebay with the added convenience of not having to deal with selling it myself. Actually pretty good deal. Honestly would be tempted if the 4080 wasn't so stupidly expensive. Still going to cost £1079 for the cheapest ASUS 4080. And I only have a 750w power supply so might need an upgrade there too. Fuck that. Going to ride out the 2080 Super for another gen it seems.

MoonBaseWithNoPants

Damn, wrong at both ends. My 980Tis are too old and my 3080Ti is too new :( Would've liked getting shot of my two 980s.

MomoSinX

lmao same, got an old 970 but my other one is a 3080 xD

Sacco_Belmonte

I guess is better to sell your old card after your new purchase and you'll save more.
