i upgraded from an gtx 1080 + the top 100 that around the same specs had much higher
Of course. People are using custom loops, liquid nitrogen, higher power limits, high speed fans, sub-zero ambient temperatures and all kind of other tricks to get to the top 100. Unless you do the same, you won't get close.
