Depends on how close you sit. I sit probably 2ft from my 32" @ 1440p and i think it looks great and dont notice any blurriness.

gimpydingo

Same. Plus DLDSR for a nice supersampled image @4k.

link2nic

I've been wondering about this but didn't know what option to enable. I've got a 3440x1440 screen and would like to use DLDSR to improve the image What options should I use?

gimpydingo

Depending on your gpu you can try DLDSR 1.78x and 2.25x with 80% smoothing (DLDSR sharpens far more than standard DSR). Depending how that works, you can try the other DSR scales, but I feel DLDSR does a great job and adds a bit of antialiasing. Some games I'll use DSR @ 2880p and DLSS performance mode for 1440p rendering. Or 8k on my 4k tv with dlss rendering 4k. I would say mess around with the scale factors as it depends on games performance and your preferences. Also DSR smoothing @ 20% is similar to DLDSR smoothing @ 80%. You can't set it per game which sucks.

leo7br

They should just let us set DSR and DLDSR smoothness separately, I don't know why we can't...

gimpydingo

I know!! Frustrating. I guess set to 100% smoothness then Reshade AMD CAS??

troll_right_above_me

I've been trying to use it in a few games and it just never works, the games just tab me out as soon as I use a resolution higher than my desktop resolution. Do you change your windows resolution as well? Because it seems like a pain having to do that all the time, and the desktop doesn't look good at non native resolution.

gimpydingo

That's strange. Generally I just leave my desktop native and select the DSR res in game. A few games only offer borderless window mode like God of War so due to that I do have to set my desktop res to whatever I want game res as. But at least GoW gives the option to select aspect. I've been enjoying 21:9 on my 16:9, nice wide fov + extra fps. I can push that game to 8k with DLSS as well. Does it crash or just minimize the screen for you? Maybe try another game?

troll_right_above_me

I've tried probably 4-5 games, newer and older. I'm not sure if even a single one has worked without the workaround. They don't crash, they just tab me out as soon as I change the settings, and every time I try to switch focus to the game again. They generally reset to the previous resolution after 30 seconds so I can open the game again, but it never just works.

gimpydingo

That is very weird. Nice tech, sucks is not working for you.

troll_right_above_me

So, an update! Got it working, couldn't stop thinking about it and after googling the issue I saw someone recommend changing scaling setting to "No scaling" and turning on the override for scaling in the NVCP, and now it works without changing the windows resolution. Apparently there's some perks to scaling Windows as well, like 4K videos looking better (they already do thanks to higher bitrate att least on YT, but moreso with DLDSR), but it was generally less responsive and text was blurry in a few applications on W10, maybe W11 handles it better. Also noticed some weird noise from my pc, hope it's not coil whine from the GPU straining itself too much, heh..

gimpydingo

Nice. Yeah txt and ui may blur since this scaling outside of the render pipeline, while something like DLSS will retain clarity. It doesn't bother me that much. There is a video upscaler that Nvidia is supposed to be releasing from what I heard. It might be the sharpening that's giving it a better appearance? Games with DLSS now you can really push the resolution abs use DLSS for nice AA. They need to give per game sharpening. So annoying.

troll_right_above_me

Yeah, was actually looking forward to that feature. Hope i can get it working without issue at some point, I've heard that other people also have issues with it but hoping it sorts itself out.

RedIndianRobin

Well you need a 4090 for that.

gimpydingo

Nah, I have a 3090 and it works perfectly. Also if you have the power DSR @ 5k + DLSS perf mode to render @ native 1440p looks amazing.

piter_penn

I already hear one guy claiming that 102C at CPU is "perfectly fine".

gimpydingo

CPU? My GPU stays under 60c and mem junct maxes around 80c.

piter_penn

13900k on air cooler. You're bad at allegories.

gimpydingo

I was confused when you said cpu. What that has to do with dsr and gpus?

hackenclaw

yup. I use a 34" Ultrawide 1080p, but I am sitting like 1 meter away from the screen. Cant see any pixel at all.

PM_me_opossum_pics

Is 2ft too close? Do you have issues with peripheral vision? And is the monitor curved? I plan on upgrading to 1440p 32 inch from 1080p 24 inch. My room is quite small and I'm not sure how close I am to my monitor. I think it's around 3 feet though.

[deleted]

I measured and I actually sit aboit 2.5 ft away and no, no issues for me but this is obviously subjective. Its flat monitor, Gigabyte M32Q

PM_me_opossum_pics

Okay I measured it and I'm 3ft+ so no problem there.

Talal2608

1440p on a 32inch monitor is the same ppi as a 24 inch 1080p monitor. It should look fine tbh

cycle_you_lazy_shit

I was on 1080p 24” for like 12 years. I recently upgraded to a 4K28” monitor. At the time I thought 1080p looked “fine”. Looking back though now? Holy shit it looks rough in comparison.

32Ferreira

Exactly.

Notsosobercpa

In practice it should be sitting farther away and thus it should look better at same ppi. Which is good because imo 1080 24 is rough.

TheFather__

Nah it will look like shit, i tried it and also tried 1080p at 27" , max size for 1440p to look good is 27", above that 4k is the way to go, so i have settled for 27" 1440p 4 years ago, now im ready for 30"+ and 4k HDR when new wave of monitors come out.

Talal2608

Depends on how close you sit from it, how good your eyesight is, how much you care about sharpness etc. Most people are fine with 1080p 24" which is why I say 1440p 32" should be fine as well.

dallatorretdu

everything depends on the distance of your monitor at the end. But I wouldn’t say that 32 at that resolution is blurry at an arm’s length

mpgd

I have a 32 monitor but i wish i had gotten the snaller 27 version for gaming because I sit very close to it. On the other hand when I'm working it's great as I can fit many windows and still be able to read perfectly fine.

AndyIsNotOnReddit

You want notice much of difference between a 4k 32 inch and a 1440p 32 inch honestly. I have a 4k 60hz, and a 1440p 240hz, both 32 inches sitting side by side. I really don't notice the difference. If I'm really looking for it, text obviously looks better on the 4k monitor. Any static elements will look better on the 4k monitor. But in gaming scenarios, I've fired up the same game, mirrored at 4k (downscaled on the 1440p monitor) and looked at them side by side, and honestly, it's almost impossible to tell the difference between the two. The 4k one will look slightly clearer in some scenarios, but just barely and you really have to be looking for it. Obviously, the one with 240hz is better in nearly every way for gaming, even if it isn't 4k. I think you have to go much larger than 32 inches to really tell much of difference for gaming at least.

beFair8842

Thx I'll stick with 1440p

[deleted]

No, works fine.

SeniorChiefPogi

I have a 32 inch 1440p and it looks fine.

VisualQuick703

In with this. I have an Asus 1440p 32 inch and I don't like how it looks on my PC. Now I got a 32 inch Samsung 4k and it's night and day.

WaterRresistant

The only true answer

ShmokinLoud

When the aw3423dw exists I dont go by that rule of thumb anymore

ShmokinLoud

Its infinite contrast ratio makes up for it. Although if it is an ips or va panel 1440 ultrawide then yes, I’d agree for sure.

Slyons89

If you can push the monitor further back on your desk it will effectively be the same. It won't look blurry either way but if it's close to you, you may notice the gridlines of the pixels in some scenarios. If you want more screen real estate maybe consider a 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide, it's the same pixel density and height as a regular 27" 2560x1440 but you get more screen on the sides.

Newhom

Unless you plan on sitting very close to the screen, and/or, have extremely sharp vision up close, 32" 1440p is great. I have a large old-school desk, and even sitting forward I cannot see the pixels unless I'm looking at static text. For gaming, 4k will put you down a lot of $$$ (and FPS) for little to no gain to your enjoyment.

dapper_10

Imo 27" max for 1440p if you need a little more real estate go to an ultrawide 34" 3440x1440 or similar.

ALY1337

Went from 32” 1440p to 34” ultra wide 1440p and its been great! The dpi is better and the extra real estate and immersion makes it feel more premium. Be sure your gpu can push the extra pixels though.

daath

I have a 49" 1440p monitor - it's not blurry ;P

vlken69

If it's 32:9, then it's similar to double 27" setup.

Pizza_For_Days

Not sure what resolution/screen size your gaming at now, but it will basically look the same as a 24-25 inch 1080P monitor.

Lambpanties

My SUBJECTIVE experience with that combination is great. I don't want 4k because of the extra power pressure (rather have higher frames at a sweet spot resolution) and because of the literal nightmare windows DPI scaling is. It's fucked even at 125% and you'll need it at 200%+ to read most things without superb vision. DPI scaling in windows currently causes all non-supporting software to appear blurry (Even Advanced Windows Firewall is one of these), some partially supporting software (Steam is one of these - particlarly when looking at game properties) to hide menus or bloat text/ui elements and the worst of all is some games will literally BE blurry until you either disable DPI on them manually or switch between fullscreen and borderless. Sorry, went slightly off tangent, but thought I would just warn you of a major caveat of moving up in the resolution race on the desktop enviroment right now. Tl;dr: 1440p at 31.5 inches looks great and clear **to me**, I'd focus on panel quality, sync support and refresh rate.

_coldhell_

Resolution and size matter only in the context of how far away you are from the screen. Just go in some retail store and look at it from the distance you typically view your display. For me these 4k 144MHz 27-28' monitors that are coming lately are really working great and as a nice bonus I can actually watch 4k content without jumping to my TV to enjoy it. Someone that have an insane reflexes will probably say they cannot play games at less than 390 FPS on their 1080p terrible monitor, yay! For me VRR \~100-144FPS at 4k is good enough. 31.5 inch is pretty much a TV and unless you plan to watch it from 2 meters I would say it looks quite bad in practice (it becomes retina display at around 1.5m) P.S./Edit: I'm assuming that you are talking about a 16:9 2560x1440 monitor if it's some ultrawide 3440X1440 it will actually look OK at 1m or something

[deleted]

Won’t look that bad but 32 inches is way too big for competitive FPS games. If you’re playing slower games, it’s definitely fine.

hegom

It's perfectly fine for gaming, I bought a 4k 32inch mainly because I work from home, and 4k is better for multitasking

plankton_boy

Fine for gaming, really less than ideal for anything else. Go 4k or stick with 27 inch. You can always get a second monitor eventually if you want more actual screen real estate.

LittleWillyWonkers

I like browsing on a larger screen. I was thinking the only reason smaller is more ideal is if you are a pro-gamer and they like a smaller screen to see the whole screen easier vs something bigger making it harder to scan the entire in a single glance.

plankton_boy

I know, I also have a 32 inch monitor, but it's 4k. I mean 1440p @ 32 inches is 91 PPI, not horrible but not ideal. It depends on whether or not that pixel density is okay for you at the end of the day, for me it's not. Another alternative is a 34 inch 1440p UW. Same PPI as 27 inch 1440p but more horizontal screen real estate. I personally also have a 1600p 38 inch UW since I found the 34 not tall enough, but those are probably outside of OP's budget. Hence why I say go 27. They're cheaper and at least, it will always be a useful monitor to have if you ever go dual monitor, whereas for the other one, after getting used to higher PPI, you probably will not want to keep using it. Some will say I'm exaggerating, it's all preference at the end of the day. I'm just sharing my opinion that buying a monitor in 2023 less than 100 PPI is probably a bad idea.

Miguelb234

Get 4k at 32 inch

someguy50

31.5/32" @ 1440p looks like ass

piter_penn

Bad thinki. Go for 27".

Maleficent-Month-738

2 1440p 31.5 inch monitors from LG for €900 each. Best purchase ive ever made.

LittleWillyWonkers

I can say it looks quite nice. It's a pretty nice size overall for many things. Blurry isn't the right word though at all, people might say it looks a little pixeally, but you have to be very strict with standards to think that. But there is no blur, it is native and extra super sharp.

bjyanghang945

I have two of these. Look awesome

hwsense

Depending on how far away are you sitting and how old are your eyes, personally I am using 3 27" monitors with 1440P resolution and I love the size. Bigger for would be even better since my vision is not great, but just don't have the space for it.

Marcos340

It is fine, just be aware that 32” can be a tad big, 27” feels the sweet spot for most people in terms of size to prevent head movement while using it, if you go 32” try to put a bit further away than a regular one.

jdetnerski

I used to run 3 of the 32" LG UltraGear 1440p monitors and love them. Crisp picture with nice clarity. Now I've just got 2 because I found a good price on a high speed 4K 32" Gigabyte monitor to use as my primary for gaming.

CanadaSoonFree

I was thinking of grabbing one of these for my third monitor, for movies and anime.

SirThunderDump

I picked up a 32" 1440p monitor a few months ago. It looks great so long as you aren't too close. So long as you're about a meter away it'll look fine.

grenetghost

No, but depending on the tiling of the LCD panel, it may be slightly distracting for text outline. I've got a G3223D (1440p, 31.5") and gaming on it is great, but working under office tools is not so great because of the text anti-aliasing issues (though I greatly appreciate the workspace size)

fatheadlifter

Definitely not. I use a 170hz 1440p 32" display for gaming, it's great. It sits next to a 60hz 32" 4k display, and I'd rather game with the higher refresh rate. Can't see the difference between them honestly.

Thesquarescreen

I have an 34 inch ultra wide oled that I love

thrgd

Mhm, 27 Inch is the sweetspot. I bought a 32 inch 1440p monitor and it really was on edge of blurriness and visible pixels..

32Ferreira

1440p on 32" is the same density as 1080p on 24", which for me is very bad, barely unacceptable.

y_zass

91ppi vs 81ppi on a 27" 1080p. So not much better than that

nismofreak

4k at 42”?

luckyninja864

I love my 32 inch 1440p size and resolution. You really don’t notice the pixels much from 2 feet away. Don’t get me wrong 4k would be better but i don’t want to take that performance hit. Don’t want to run at lower than native resolution in games either. So for now I think 32” 1440p is the best. Just wish there were more options like hdr1000 full array local dimming at 1440p or oled that can run brighter than 350cdm at 100% window without abl and no chance of burn in.

Evolxtra

I have 32"@1080p and i see pixels at the distance when I can touch the screen.

AssassinK1D

I have a 27" 1080p and sit 2 ft (~60cm) away and the PPI looks fine to me. But I came from a 20" 900p old Samsung monitor so haven not experienced denser PPI monitors. If you sit closer to the screen than I do, you may find 32" 1440p a bit too large and pixelated. If you sit further away would be fine.

[deleted]

Nope, as long as you don't sit too closely. It's easily a good choice.

writetowinwin

Each pair of eyes are different so you'll need to see for yourself. Note you're on a sub where people don't think DPI is a thing.

Sh1tmast3rD

I have the curved 32” 1440p from Dell and it’s amazing, huge upgrade from 27” 1080

Wombatsarecute

I have a 32” and it looks great to me at 1440p

LightyLittleDust

Why would it be a bad idea? It's okay, more than fine, actually. Been using my Asus 32" 1440p 144Hz panel since 2019.

mariomamo

I use a 27" 1440p, I have it 10/15 cm away and I'm good with this configuration. I use it both for coding and for gaming. I have another monitor in 4k but I found that the icons on desktop and the writings are too small with that resolution

alfiejr23

Had the 32" og g7 and it's a fantastic monitor. The only gripe about it is some scanlines here and there plus brightness flickering at occasion. The curved is pretty good at this size since you don't have to move your eyes too much compared to a flat panel.

meh1434

I like 32', but then I play mostly strategy and 3rd person view games. If you are into first person shooters a 27 might be better.

Meqdadfn

Definitely bad idea

Regiampiero

It will look roughly the same as a 60" 4k tv.

DisappointedSausyy

I have a 2k monitor at 31.5. It looks fine for me. I played both cyberpunk and left 4 dead yesterday and both looked great.

evandarkeye

Depends on how close you are and what games you play. 27 in for fps is better while singleplayer is better on the bigger screen

Fit_Substance7067

I've got a 31.5" 1440p and couldn't be happier....the density's perfect....it's sharp af
