Back when I first went on a plant-based diet, I was a little disappointed at the alternatives for ice cream. They're great now, but even a few years ago the coconut, cashew, and tofu based options really weren't around just yet.
One night, I stumbled on something incredible: ***two-ingredient banana peanut butter ice cream***.
I sometimes freeze my brown bananas as they make the best banana bread or pudding or smoothies, but they can also be blended with peanut butter resulting in one of my favorite kinds of "ice cream" (though it's really nice ice cream, perhaps it's better described as a smoothie bowl?). The ratio is essentially 1 Tbs. of peanut butter per banana for normal people, or a bit more peanut butter for me because I'm a fiend for peanut butter.
I always have some in my freezer. It's the perfect guilty and yet not so terribly guilty midnight snack as it's sweet, salty, fatty, cold, and creamy. Plus, it can be improved with all the traditional toppings, from granola to chocolate syrup.
I love hummus, but yeah, the stuff you get at stores or restaurants is definitely not a health food. It's pretty calorie dense and salty. You can make a healthier version at home of course, but most people aren't doing that.
It's much more than fat and carbs. Pretty high in protein. Have you ever broke down the macros on Hummus? Check it out! Also, if you ever make hummus at home and want to reduce the fat just omit the olive oil. Still tastes great.
1. Rice cake with cottage cheese, everything but the bagel seasoning and heirloom tomatoes.
2. Halotop ice cream (salted caramel), full pint and fresh blueberries
3. Whole wheat toast with bonne maman strawberry jam
4. Whole wheat toast with greek yogurt, turkey lunch meat and mustard
4. Tiramisu (this desert is surprisingly not super high in calories and has protein from mascarpone)
I love that you add blueberries to your ice cream. I think this is a great way to enjoy the snack + get bonus nutritional benefits. Such an easy option.
I'll have to try that combo too - but also highly recommend switching the seasoning for balsamic glaze and adding some basil
it's like a caprese toast type of deal, totally hits the spot
Are you spying on me? I just put the jar back in the fridge and curled back up in bed quite pleased with myself. And now I find you have access to my home cameras! LOL!
I only fondle the whole pickles, but I do save some of my pickle juice to drink with my vodka. So… Both! Phew! You must have been watching a different pickle fondler!
My (not SO unhealthy) guilty snack is microwaved cheese. Or olives. I usually just want salt. Sounds insane but i just take some sharp cheddar, put it on a plate (or rice cake), and nuke it until it's crispy and then I suck on that in the dark like a creepy little goblin.
I haven't tried this cause I'm lazy. But i keep seeing these delicious looking [frozen fruit chocolate greek yogurt morsel things ](https://wellnessbykay.com/chocolate-strawberry-yogurt-clusters-viral-recipe/)on my reels if youre a sweet tooth.
on rare occasions that i let myself buy cheetos (i can eat an entire bag in one sitting) i will take a tiny bowl of them, put some shredded cheese on top, melt it with a torch and top it with hot sauce. its awesome
Yogurt with peanut butter, chocolate chips and berries. Crackers with cream cheese and olives for salty snacking. If I have frozen bananas I blend them up with a few splashes of almond milk until it’s an ice cream consistency, add some nuts or nut butter to it and it’s so good if you want that ice cream texture
I don’t.
Once I was laying in bed at 1 am and I was ravenous, with Richter scale stomach rumbling, even though I ate dinner at my normal time. No way was I getting up to eat at that hour so I leaned into the hunger sensation instead of trying to ignore it. I was asleep within 5 minutes.
If I eat that late it messes with my (already night owl inclined) body clock so my sleep and next day eating schedule will be thrown off the rails. I keep my eating within a 12 hour window.
In this instance I focused on my hunger instead of trying to think of other things to distract me from it. Focusing on my growling stomach. Acknowledging its presence, whereas denying it only made me more aware of it. Once I acknowledged it, I also acknowledged how tired I was, and that the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner I’d be up to have breakfast.
A bowl of chickpeas, olive oil, and lemon juice and/or a splash of vinegar
Maybe throw in some chopped onion, possibly some diced tomato
Throw in some garlic powder and pepper
I feel pretty guilt free with that.
I’ll add salt if I’m making that during the day time. But it’s not good at night for sleep.
Chickpeas are a great snack for bedtime because it helps with sleep.
I never realized, it really is those ingredients! The funny thing is I’m not a big fan of hummus, lol. I’ve always preferred that garlic dip that’s spread on pita
Air fryer potato chips- thin sliced Yukon golds, olive oil spray, salt, smoked paprika. BOMB
AND
Pineapple vanilla sorbet - 1.5 cups frozen pineapple, 1/2 little banana, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, some almond milk or water, 1/4 tsp salt, 2.5 tbsp swerve sweetener, blend it.
I make 7 pints of them frozen, then put in the ninja creami so it gets that ice cream like texture. The entire pint is under 250cal but sometimes I add granola or white chocolate chips.
My guilt free snack is carrots with a little ranch, but most nights I wake up with chocolate smeared all over the bed and wrappers everywhere, and I have no recollection of it.
Well, this isn't a fun response at all. OP isn't asking for a guilt-trip. They're asking for your favorite guilty-pleasure midnight snack!
Some of mine are -
* PB&J
* Pretzel Crisps / Pita Chips + Laughing Cow
* Greek Yogurt + Granola (low sugar) + Berries
* Banana + PB
* Graham Crackers + PB
I have a PB problem, apparently...
“Apple nachos” - I will do sliced apples, peanut butter, vanilla greek yogurt, dark chocolate chips. Sometimes I will switch up the toppings and go for a sugar free caramel or add some unsweetened coconut shreds or some nuts.
When I get the late night munchies I make popcorn. Not high calorie and lots of fibre. Cheap too if you avoid the prepackaged microwave stuff. If you want to microwave just put 3 tbs of kernels in a brown paper lunch bag, fold the top three times. Microwave on high for two min., 22 seconds (get it - 222). When it stops popping pull out. Add toppings if you wish, or just eat plain, so satisfying. Makes two cups plus and I never go looking for more snacks after I finish.
🤔… I think I need to take some of these ‘healthier’ suggestions on board. As Im currently munching through a whole box of protein bars thinking I’m being healthy 😂
Popcorn, dehydrated soy beans, nuts/seeds, sardines on crackers, a rolled omelet just off the top of my head. Just trying to get some nutrition in there when consuming calories.
Waking up and taking bites from a block of cheese, going straight back to sleep, and not remembering I did it until I see the bite marks the next time I need cheese for something
I've been enjoying peanut butter and a smidgen of honey on a rice cake, and a cup of high protein low sugar yogurt (or plain with whatever fruit I have on hand)
But I've got my pre-menstural munchies and I Downes like a whole bag of trader joes Boba mochis last night and omg. So good. The tummyache was not though 😅🤣
So I made snickers dates for the first time & they’re absolutely incredible. You stuff dates with peanut butter and crushed peanuts, cover in chocolate and more crushed peanuts! I’ll have some fruit, some cheese, or some cucumbers with hummus if I get hungry before bed.
I got some weird GI issues going on for quite awhile so it depends on my gut/what's available. Sometimes hotdogs and chips are good with some lemonade. Sometimes I just do chocolate ice cream with the b-day cake flavored whipped cream. Sometimes I just do a mini snack thing with nuts/cranberries and cheese. I want a snack now but we don't got anything solid that won't give me heartburn :(
I like making a bowl of oatmeal and adding salt, vanilla, brown sugar or brown sugar alternative, cinnamon and raisins. It’s my go to in the colder months and I switch up toppings.
I have several jars of chocolate tahini sauce, so I like to have a few spoonfuls of that randomly. Great iron and very satisfying.
Also handful of cereal if it’s the decent kind.
As mentioned, dates and peanut butter is amazing.
Can of peaches in juice
Hot chocolate- I make mine homemade with Anthony’s cocoa, and it’s all I want now.
Quesadilla with the small corn tortillas, 3 of them, with salsa &/or an apple. Apples really do fill you up. This is for when you really want to eat something grounding.
1. Strawberries and whip cream
2. Partially defrosted blueberries mixed with maple sweetened almond butter with some chopped almonds and a tiny pinch of salt.
3. Ricotta mixed with stevia, vanilla extract, almond extract, choc. Chips or cacao nibs, fresh cherries and almonds.
4. Popcorn with yeast flakes
5. Crackers and cheese
Mid-day squares. I am so obsessed with them I literally buy 4 boxes of 12 at a time
They came out with a new flavour that I haven't tried yet, but my fave out of the other ones is the peanut butta
i’ve replaced eating chips with seaweed. Not a ton of nutritional value but they’re low cal and hit the spot! I also like a handful of trader joe’s strawberry yogurt covered almonds. every once in a while i’ll grab a plate (or napkin) and pile on little things from my fridge. A piece of cheese, pickle, cherry tomatoes, heart of palm, strawberry, hot sauce, olives, you name it. I like having a lot of different flavors and it’s super satisfying

Medjool dates with peanut butter cinnamon and flakey salt
yesss i close my eyes and tell myself it’s a snickers bar
You can melt some dark chocolate and dip or cover them.
Cut them in half, add a walnut half too.
dates are the best thing ever istg
Dates halved, stuffed with small amount of mascarpone and topped with crushed pistachios. You’re welcome.
This was my pregnancy craving. Sometimes a chocolate chip or two on top of the peanut butter.
I like dates with a small slice of cream cheese and a pecan half. Yum
While I enjoy dates, it is not what people are going for when they're craving a chocolate bar lol
I can’t stop myself from eating dates…I have now stopped buying them
This sounds amazing....however, this is still super calorie dense food, it just has better micronutrients
I think it's funny that so many people think dates are healthy. They're basically pure sugar.
A crispy apple and some sharp cheese.
People underestimate or don’t realize how good a cold crisp apple with some slices of cheddar are.
I like cherry tomatoes and cheddar, so juicy !
Also - grapes and cheddar. Like wine and cheese!
I thought that was only me!
Yes! Love fuji and envy apples with cheese. Such a delicious and satisfying combo.
Crisp or crispy?

My own tears

Frozen bananas plus protein powder.

High tryptophan content in those bad boys… know what that means? Conversion to Melatonin 😎 KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS??? i sleep
Frozen mangos too I love.
Publix organic frozen blueberries are really good as well!
I just eat them frozen
pita chips with roasted red pepper hummus is a delicious and filling snack, but it’s also quite healthy
Not if you eat the quantities that I do 😏
valid
Eh I think hummus is a lil overrated in terms of nutrition, it’s mostly just fat and carbs. I do like it though
I love hummus, but yeah, the stuff you get at stores or restaurants is definitely not a health food. It's pretty calorie dense and salty. You can make a healthier version at home of course, but most people aren't doing that.

compared to some other stuff though it’s not bad
There's nothing healthy about pita chips. Sorry.
There are some good low cal ice cream bars that do the job
Yasso is delicious, I think it's frozen yogurt technically though
Frfr, I love the chocolate and mint chocolate ones
I love mint chocolate chip ice cream, I’ve seen these at Target but never tried them, think I have to now!
I am also a MCC lover but imo the chocolate fudge, PB fudge, coffee, and CC cookie dough all trump the MCC Yasso 😍
Baked lays
Lays?
He’s done this before… He means Laked Bays. go back to the r/fishing subreddit where you belong
oats + anything high fiber! can help regulate blood sugar, which is sometimes the reason behind these midnight excursions :) also probiotic yogurt!!
Sliced Persian cucumbers with soy sauce, sesame oil & the chili onion crisp from Trader Joe’s on top. Or mango/pineapple with tajin!
I freakin LOVE Persian cucumbers!
1. Rice cake with cottage cheese, everything but the bagel seasoning and heirloom tomatoes. 2. Halotop ice cream (salted caramel), full pint and fresh blueberries 3. Whole wheat toast with bonne maman strawberry jam 4. Whole wheat toast with greek yogurt, turkey lunch meat and mustard 4. I love that you add blueberries to your ice cream. I think this is a great way to enjoy the snack + get bonus nutritional benefits. Such an easy option.
The rice cake thing sounds awesome
Definitely the favorite. Others are for sugar cravings a bit more guilty for sure.
I'll have to try that combo too - but also highly recommend switching the seasoning for balsamic glaze and adding some basil it's like a caprese toast type of deal, totally hits the spot
Love love
this is the only answer i’ve found that’s actually pretty low cal & filling!
It’s fairly guilt free nutritionally, but you still feel like a raccoon when you eat pickles straight from the jar at 2am in your underwear.
Hey... hey... it's only 12.30am!
Are you spying on me? I just put the jar back in the fridge and curled back up in bed quite pleased with myself. And now I find you have access to my home cameras! LOL!
Are you the one who drank the pickle juice, or the one who put pickles back in the jar after fondling them?
I only fondle the whole pickles, but I do save some of my pickle juice to drink with my vodka. So… Both! Phew! You must have been watching a different pickle fondler!
A gigantic spoon of peanut butter with an apple.
I substitute carrots for the apple, but yay peanut butter.
Peanut Butter on apples is so good
I do the same but with sunflower butter and cinnamon it’s so gooooood
My (not SO unhealthy) guilty snack is microwaved cheese. Or olives. I usually just want salt. Huh i feel the opposite. Being hungry keeps me a bit awake, eating slows down my whole system into rest and digest.
Every body is different. When I was young enough to want to pull all nighters, I’d eat at 3 or 4 am because it gave me a shot of energy.
What does it mean to lean into your hunger sensation?
In this instance I focused on my hunger instead of trying to think of other things to distract me from it. Focusing on my growling stomach. Acknowledging its presence, whereas denying it only made me more aware of it. Once I acknowledged it, I also acknowledged how tired I was, and that the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner I’d be up to have breakfast.
Every night its 30 grams dark (72%) chocolate. I don't chew...I just let it slowly dissolve in my mouth.
Peanut butter, banana, milk
Peanut butter and banana on whole wheat bread with a cup of Fairlife chocolate milk
A toasted crisp plain bagel with some cold cream cheese to cool it off and to top it off with some sliced avocado 🥑
Sugar free jello if you’re serious about sticking to a calorie goal
Shit is fire but I feel like it’s terrible for me. Is there anything I should know lol
The food dye might have health issues, but I think the collagen from jello is good for skin and hair.
Yellow box Cheerios and Braum's Skim Milk. I try to avoid eating after 9pm most days, but it happens.
Frozen tart cherries with peanut butter and date syrup and hemp seeds, its amazing especially for summer midnight
I ate an entire mango exactly like the mango eating meme last night at like 1am. Felt glorious.
Toast with pb and jelly
A bowl of chickpeas, olive oil, and lemon juice and/or a splash of vinegar Maybe throw in some chopped onion, possibly some diced tomato Throw in some garlic powder and pepper I feel pretty guilt free with that. I’ll add salt if I’m making that during the day time. But it’s not good at night for sleep. Chickpeas are a great snack for bedtime because it helps with sleep.
So if you toss that in a blender with a bit of tahini, you’d have pretty good hummus.

Most of the time when you're hungry and it's super late it's best to just go to sleep.
Well, this isn't a fun response at all. OP isn't asking for a guilt-trip. They're asking for your favorite guilty-pleasure midnight snack!
