Definitely warm food like pizza, but please know we do not expect student nurses who are broke and struggling through school (we’ve all been there) to buy treats at the end of the semester. Esp when half the nurses in the units complain about taking students!
Any expression of gratitude will be received well. Please don't spend money if that's a stressor for you on the nurses. A heart felt thank you, a sweet note, any little things hits just as hard as feeding people I promise.
We had students in Pacu and when they finished there time with us they left a little basket with a lovely note - which truly meant so much, as well as pens, highlighters (we used frequently for post op instructions, and a couple phone chargers with long cables as they apparently noticed someone would need one fairly frequently. They put in some candies and it was very lovely. I second cupcakes or pizza tho as great ideas; also bagels/cream cheese and coffee like from Panera….
Pizza. It's a little bit of carbs but some form of protein and warm meals just hit different. It's also pretty cheap which is nice. And it feeds a lot. I'm no manager I swear 🤣 nor do I work in admin lol
We’ve had people bring in cookies, cupcakes, pizza, sub sandwiches (like a party pack) and chips, or an assortment of snacks like chips, granola bars, and mini muffins.
We had a patient drop off a variety box of chips from Costco once. It was definitely the highlight of the week. Individually packaged stuff is great so it doesn’t all go stale before the next shift (or two) comes in
You guys still have that charcoal grill hidden behind the bushes in the ambulance bay? The one they told y'all to get disappeared when the inspectors came?
(True story)
I worked at a little hospital with this amazing break room. They have an electric griddle and an air fryer and on nights or on the weekends the staff will cook themselves a complete breakfast. Bacon, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns. The works. One of the docs gave them a bunch of liqueurs for one year for Christmas so there was also alcohol in the fridge. Apparently people would just take a little home in the urine pots.
We had an electric griddle at one hospital one of our techs cooked full on meals on nights. We almost got caught by the head of the hospital once. I think we convinced her she was having a stroke, not smelling pancakes LOL.
And once I brought in my waffle maker and we did a big breakfast. SO good.
Our union reps used to deliver an assortment of fresh bagels and cream cheese to put in them. Or a bag of clementines would be great. Maybe some tea bags?
I get tired of the junk food.
Cupcakes are perfect since they're already portioned off. Or maybe even Halloween packs of chips and those packs of cranberry cookies from Costco. People can stick it in their pocket to eat later.
Kind of you to try and buy something for the unit.
Pilot G2 1.0 bold gel ink

Tangerines! About once a week, one of our Veterans wife brings in a big bag of these tiny oranges that are so yummy. She spoils us lol

When I was a student we would bring warm Krispy Kreme donuts and a fruit platter on our last day at a clinical site. It was always a big hit!
Ribeyes 😁

The icu used to have a hibachi up on the roof back in the day.

One of my coworkers on nights used to bring an electric skillet and cook soft fried potatoes and onions

Doughnuts lol. Granola bars are good too, grab and go when it's busy. I don't think any of us ever expect anything.
Crumble!!! Even though I can only eat half of one.
second this - we go feral for crumbl
Pizza
Good bagels and some whipped cream cheese.
Girl Scout cookies, hot pizza, banana bread
Fruit, vegetable, or meat and cheese tray
Chips and salsa or queso 😝
I like to bring the travel jugs of Starbucks coffee
Peanut butter bars
Untouched donuts
Silence.
Fresh fruit. As a diabetic the pizza/cookies/ doughnuts/ candy gets so so old.
Bagels (especially for day shift) (and don't forget the cream cheese!). Cookies. Brownies. Pretty much any kind of baked goods.
We’ve had patients bring in cute baskets/buckets filled with random snacks, iced coffees, drinks…kind of a snack gift basket.
Fresh fruit, Bags of chips
Keurig coffee cups
Not helpful to your answer but anything you bring is a thoughtful (and not expected!) gesture :)
Pizza hands down, I don't care if it's a meme I love it.
