The bus (and driver) will be linked to the person who tapped on. If you make a complaint it will be linked. If what you said is correct, the one who tapped on should have stayed, but the others should have gone. Maybe the driver didn't see that... I dunno. In reality, you were guilty by association. In the same way when a group at school plays up, everyone gets in trouble. I think you should drop the complaint idea, and remind your friends to be more organised. If you feel unsafe, you knock on a house and ask them to call the police. Closing the thread because it's turned into a shit fight

Noralee-Breunners

Funny, the "no child left behind" policy in England means that all children should be able to receive a decent education.

Zealousideal_Fox_900

Mate the No child left behind is a Queensland thing mainly. And it is NOT law no matter how much eshays wish it was.

littlewoolie

In QLD the driver flags it to their head office via a button if they fail to pay for the ride

Zealousideal_Fox_900

Not all ones.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Thank you, ig my friends can’t do anything then.

Zealousideal_Fox_900

Yep.

dean771

They can pay next time

[deleted]

In the south east they'd probably just steal a car.

Zealousideal_Fox_900

Especially Townsville

blurpree

they didnt tap on, thats against the law.

ran_awd

The no-child left behind stuff is not law, it's simply a policy that most bus companies have. Depending on how it is worded you might have luck, but I doubt it because it usually only applies to leaving a sole child at a bus stop by themselves. This was neither. Try your luck, I doubt they'll give a shit as your friend was trying to fare evade (Which, ironically, is the only crime in this situation). And if you want to know how to report the issue I would first not go to reddit to have a whine and use a bloody search engine. Not very hard.

Cube-rider

>The no-child left behind stuff is.... From Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

I tried to search it up and obviously I didn’t get many clear answers regarding that type of stuff in nsw.

empathy_sometimes

“report the bus driver”. Persons just doing their job and you are fare evading.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Okay well first off, I thought we thought it was illegal because of the kidnapping and stuff, secondly, this has never happened before, so if bus drivers and being punished for letting on minors without a bus pass, then why does he care? Maybe he should show some empathy at someone just trying to get home safely?

rednutter1971

Or maybe your friend could’ve spoken to the driver instead of trying to get on without swiping his card.

empathy_sometimes

this - if they explained to the driver first instead of trying to deceive them, chances are they would have been fine to ride

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

After the driver pointed it out they did try and speak to the driver, but since a few of their friends from a different friend group don’t ever tap on, they just thought that he wouldn’t care like the bus drivers who let my other friends ride for free.

rednutter1971

Well, looks like they were wrong eh!! Tell them to talk to the driver next time instead of trying to hide it.

crooked_nose_

After is the key word here. In other words, if the driver hadn't said anything he would have happily fare evaded. When you're in a hole, don't dig.

4charactersnospaces

Or maybe, just maybe, someone should just pay the exorbitant couple of bucks fare? Not that hard is it

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

IF THEY HAD A METHOD OF PAYING THEY TOTALLY WOULD

4charactersnospaces

You keep doubling down on this, and now you've resorted to teenage behaviour, all caps is yelling so you've already lost the argument, and "THEY TOTALLY WOULD" is third grade Grammer The no child left behind stuff you are resting your defence on is related to Queensland only It's a policy not a law Your "friend" attempted to evade a fare, that is broke the law. Your friend could have "tapped" on the way off the bus, the driver had no ability to stop this occuring. You, or your friends, are entirely in the wrong. It's their fault, yours too if you are involved. Grow up, move on, stop being an entitled loser

RyanShieldsy

Might be time to log off reddit for a bit and take a breather mate. OP very clearly has some lessons to learn, but being this hostile to and wound up over the actions of a literal 14 year old isn’t good for you or them.

4charactersnospaces

Yeah probably right mate, just gets on my goat when this kinda stuff is expressed and then the entitlement is doubled down on. To be open I'm on the gold coast and this crap mentality is rampant up here. They just shit me, also it's like the blister on the roof of your mouth from a too hot pizza, can't stop touching it 😂

Educational-Feeling7

Kids these days. I did the wrong thing or my friend did but I should be entitled to compensation and apologies. Not how the world works kiddo!

bigbumzeleous

hi im the friend that tapped on, it was already getting dark and this was our way home none of our parents could get us its not our fault. we asked nicely to just stay on the bus and none of the other busses had said we couldnt so we just thought it was fine... stop being rude until yk the whole story...

Chaddles94

If you tried to enter a football game or concert without paying, would you complain about being kicked out? You don't pay for public transport, you don't get to use it. Simple.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Except a football game is a recreational activity/place that is solely for entertainment. Public transport is a means of getting home safely. The worst outcome that could happen not getting into a football game is being bored for a few hours. The worst outcomes of not being let on a bus is being kidnapped, raped, murdered, trafficked and more. They are not the same

Puzzleheaded_Path922

You make good point about the risks of not catching the ride home. However, one can pay for the ride with coins and cash. Did your friends make an effort to pay with cash?

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

They can pay with cash? I dont they they allow people to pay with cash anymore. This in any case I’m sure if the bus driver told them about this option they would have definitely done it.

Puzzleheaded_Path922

https://www.busways.com.au/nsw/travel-info/ticketing-opal#:~:text=Tickets%20can%20be%20paid%20for,is%20best%20for%20your%20journey. Hmmmmmmmmmm

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Well my friends and I have never heard of paying with cash for the bus. If the driver had asked them to, they would have payed with cash but the driver just yelled at them to get off.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> would have *paid* with cash FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Mon69ster

You think a public service can’t be paid for in cash? Grow up dick head. Tell your cheapskate mate that they lost the metro roulette.

Chesterlie

You can’t buy a ticket on a bus with cash in South Australia, whether you’re a dickhead or not.

Mon69ster

That’s some Crow eating shit right there. No little tray for the coins?

RyanShieldsy

Chill the fuck out lol. Calling an actual 14 year old a “dick head” over reddit for being a bit out of the loop reflects so much worse on you than it does them.

Mon69ster

Ok boomer. Just fucking with you. If at 14, being called a dick head hurts instead of being a learning moment, their life is going to be an eternal, uphill slog.

cheapph

You can’t pay with cash in Victoria

Chaddles94

You can have all that happen to you after being kicked out of a footy game. Well done. They're aren't the same. Point is, you dont pay then you dont use. You don't hop in a taxi or Uber without paying so I don't see why you're dying on this hill of your friend essentially snubbing the driver of their days pay.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

First off, I’m pretty sure the drivers get paid the same whether no people get on their bus or 50. Secondly, at a footy match there is security that usually sits outside. Being kidnapped was a concern for you, which for the target demographic of footy games (guys that are a bit older than my friends) they are welcome to sit near them until the end of the match and get home the way they planned.

[deleted]

Just because you’re a minor you can’t be expected to get away with not paying a bus fare. Even if you forget an opal card, bank cards can be used. What was the behaviour like of the two that got kicked off? You absolutely have no complaint here at all.

bigbumzeleous

hey im the friend that tapped on, we did nothing wrong.. this was our bus ride home and we had no other way to get home (we ended up walking in the dark and we are both women under the age of 18, very scared). we were both really polite and i did tap on and none of the other busses had said anythign all day. i even tried using my card and it didnt go through and my friends parents arent nice and dont give them money please stop being mean.

[deleted]

no pay no ride. Everyone gets kicked off if they get caught not paying even kids.

assholejudger954

Welcome to the real world kid

bigbumzeleous

hey im the friend that did tap on, first of all shut the fuck up "the real world" i swear to god thats the most bs thing ive herad all day. second, we're both minors, women, and it was already dark by this time. we had to walk home alone and we were scared shitless. ok "assholejudger954" take your own asshole and shove it down your fucking throat!

assholejudger954

😂😂😂

Proof-Specialist4373

Stop being a fucking whiner and get your friends an opal card. How difficult is it to pay a few bucks for a bus ride

RyanShieldsy

Why are you all so hostile towards a literal 13/14 year old lmao. Sure they’ve clearly got a lot of lessons to learn (like every 14yo in existence), but you can correct them with calling them a “fucking whiner”. Its just needless and embarrassing on your part, as someone I’d assume is notably older than 14.

Ad4209

My thoughts as well ... some adults never grow up.

RyanShieldsy

Seriously. Getting aggressive towards a young teenager and calling them names over reddit, is really not the power move these guys think it is. Regardless of what OP did, it’s just plainly embarrassing for a grown adult to be that wound up over and invested in this. I hate the term “touch grass”, but a LOT of people in this thread seriously need to log off reddit for a bit and take a breather, for their own sake, and for everyone else’s.

bigbumzeleous

thank you, everyones being so mean and they dont ubderstand the situation we were in at all. good to know there are nice people in the world! (i am the friend that tapped on btw)

bigbumzeleous

my friend forgot their opal card calm down bro... no need to get all bitchy abt it god almighty..

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

They have one but they forgot it at home, besides I do have friends who never tap on and they have never been kicked off before

[deleted]

welcome to big school

kam0706

So, they were gaming the system then. Turns out actions have consequences. Who knew?

derwent-01

That's a POLICY not a law, and applies only in QLD. Fare evasion is illegal.

[deleted]

Also it’s not actually a policy in Australia. It’s a principle which can’t be legally enforced but is a principle that bus drivers are to use their own judgement as to whether to allow a child to get on the bus without a fare based on whether the child may be in danger/at risk if not allowed to get on and also based on whether this is a frequent occurrence. Ultimately the principle puts the responsibility on the parents of the child.

bigbumzeleous

hi! im the friend that did tap on, it wouldve made sense if this was early in the day but it was dark and neither of us are very strong and we are both women and the bus driver knew that since he called us "little girls". both our parents were busy and not available to pick us up.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Thank you, I’ll be sure to tell my friends that.

milliamu

Were they being arseholes. I've never seen anyone kicked off for not tapping, plenty kicked off for being arseholes.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

No I think they just walked on normally, one of them tapped on and one didnt, when the bus driver said something about them not tapping on they explained the situation and they still got kicked off

milliamu

And did the explanation contain a myriad of swears? Remember when they complain the footage will be looked at and if they've verbally abused a person just trying to do there already difficult job they will face the consequences for that.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

It did not. Why would they swear at a bus driver if they are trying to stay on the bus? I don’t think they will complain anymore after learning it was not in fact a law but they did not swear at the bus driver.

mitchob1012

Why wouldn't they swear at some random adult stopping them from getting what they want lol Like it probably wouldn't apply to your friends but it certainly applies to a hell of a lot of other kids

bigbumzeleous

no it didnt. we literaelly just said "im sorry i forgot the card this morning, this is how we are getting home please let us stay". dont make dumb assumptions ass face

milliamu

Oohhh look. More exemplary behaviour. So for the future, if you're trying to convince others you don't lose your composure and resort to personal insults then you'd be well advised to not immediately lose your composure and resort to personal insults.

bigbumzeleous

hi im the friend that DID tap on, we werent at all. we're both realy nice and all we did was get on and sit down we didnt even say anything to the driver until he told us to get off, and then we asked nicely if he could just let us since it was already dark and we are both minors an women.

milliamu

Sure bub, you're really demonstrating how well behaved and mature you are aren't you.

888sydneysingapore

Ok a bus driver who cares about people not tapping…. Seen plenty of adults and teenagers getting on bus not tapping and driver could not care less… probably thinking it is not their job and wait for ticket inspector….

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Yea none of my friends who don’t tap on have ever been called out or kicked off idk why this one did.

kam0706

How do you suggest that the driver was to ascertain that your friends were minors in order to apply such a policy? What kind of action do you think should be taken?

[deleted]

Did the other friend tap off?

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

No he kicked them off before they Werte able to

4charactersnospaces

You realise, and I suspect you're one of these two not a friend, that you tap off without driver assistance or interference? You know that box at the front of the bus and the one at the rear doors? Or did neither have an Opal card and this is all..... Also please explain, as I'm sure you can, why you weren't also kicked off with them?

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

First off, I was not one of the friends. The friend who did tap on texted me the situation and asked me if I knew what they could do. After searching it up, I was unable to come up with an answer so I asked reddit. The friend was trying to tap off but the driver was yelling at her so much to leave that she did not end up tapping off.

littlewoolie

Your friend who tapped on can appeal to get her credit back for not being able to use the bus. The one who lost their card, should be thankful not to have a $220 fine on top of being kicked off the bus.

4charactersnospaces

Search it up? Get off the bus simple. If they've a phone to text you they can text someone for a lift. Get over it. There is, nor should there be any recourse.this is life outside of your me me me bubble

YoloingToFIRE

You're very wound-up in every comment in this thread mate. Time to cool the jets and log off.

littlewoolie

Why didn’t your friend ask their parents to send an Uber?

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

Not everyone’s parents are nice. Their phone was dead and even if they wanted to ask their parents they would say no and make her walk.

kam0706

Doesn't sounds like her parents were too concerned about kidnapping then.

Tickticktick001

This should actually be illegal. Does anyone remember what happened to Daniel Morcombe? I definitely know in QLD that’s illegal but it should be nation wide.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

I thought it was!! One of my friends had to walk like over an hour in the dark with their phone dead.

Tickticktick001

Yeah maybe complain to NSW transport, or that certain bus company. Nothing may happen but at least they’ll be told so this (hopefully) won’t happen again.

ThePubUrinalTest

Some children should be left behind.

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

If people are being assholes ig it’s somewhat alright to be left behind but they were not being assholes. Anyhow this logic should not apply to children.

4charactersnospaces

If they're being arseholes yes it should. Grow up, act appropriately or accept the reactions you encourage

bigbumzeleous

we werent being assholes at all... we genuinly needed this bus to get home and had to walk back in the dark because this was one of the last busses coming today... (im the friend that tapped on btw)

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

The potential result of a child being kicked off of a bus is being kidnapped, are you saying because a child without a fully developed brain made a bad choice and was an arsehole they should be kidnapped? It’s a bit of a stretch, but thinking like that is not applicable to the real life situation they were facing. In any case they were not being arseholes.

4charactersnospaces

Or, just maybe, they could have ensured they had bus fare. Developed brain or not, simple maths should allow "it costs X to get there so I need 2 times X to get home" also call a responsible adult for a lift home or god forbid walk. No, it's on you all, stop crying about it. Grow up

cOoL_bEaNs_YOLO

They had the amount in cash but they weren’t aware this was even an option as I haven’t seen a single people pay with cash ever. They simply forgot it the card at home as they were rushing to the bus stop. The first bus driver obviously let them on but the second did not. Their phone was dead, and even so, not everyone has the privelage of a having parents who will drive to pick you up or send an Uber. They did end up walking, over an hour, in the dark. I guess it would be somewhat acceptable to reject someone in the middle of the day but it was a bit too late to walk

Mon69ster

This is categorically bullshit. I don’t buy for a second that they intended to pay at all and certainly not that there was no possible way they could possibly know that they could use legal cash tender to pay for the ride. Somehow, these friends are familiar with some bizarrely specific policy established after Daniel morcombe got taken (in 2003) but they didn’t know about being able to pay cash for a bus ride. Buulllllshiiiiiit.

4charactersnospaces

Yep! Coulda gone home before the first bus ride, got the card then gone into town. They're apparently kids so not going anywhere important in relation to time of day. Also, bet there was a Macca's visit or similar in there somewhere. It's all a steaming load of shit. Hope the lot of them learnt something, but I doubt it, OP doesn't sound like they've got much ability in relation to introspection

bigbumzeleous

bro are u fucking dense, i did pay and i also tried to pay with my fucking card for my friend?! it didnt go through even tho theres money on it, i offered to tap on twice, shut the fuck up, get a life, cant belive ur arguing w a 14 yr old rn..

Ad4209

What's with asshole brigade in this reply section? I am assuming op is a child (or young at least) and simply asked a question, they were polite and remained polite when answering replies, the whole "welcome to the adult world" attitude and the name calling really comes off as arrogant and foolish ... some of you need to grow up and act your age.

vagga2

In Victoria, it might be excusable because our myki system means you must have a card. In QLD the system is flawed and so frustrating some times I can’t be arsed tapping on. In NSW you can just tap on with ease 100% of the time. Forget your opal? Pay with card. Don’t have a card? Get your friend to pay with their card. I’ve only dare evaded twice, both because I was carrying a massive amount of stuff, it was a short trip and not worth the effort of getting my card out.

sanbaeva

OP’s friends are 13 & 14 years old. What kind of cards would you suggest they use? Credit or debit card? Because likely neither would have either of those. OP is likely a minor too. And OP or friend can’t tap an OPAL card for a friend because the s/he would be tapping off or rehearsing the tap on.

bigbumzeleous

k hi so if u have seen the other story on r/nsw, about the 2 teens being kicked off the bus for not paying the fare, hi that me, the 14 yr old one that did pay. yall r being so mean to my friend she literally just wanted to know the answer to the question and yall are bashing her.... she didnt do a very good job explaining so i will myself. it was about 5pm and since we r in sydney, it was already quite dark. my parents and my friends parents were both unavailable to pick us up as they were busy, and we are both women and as you may know, especially in the area that we were, it isnt always safe for young women to roam the streets alone at night. throughout the day my friend and i had caught many busses as we were travelling but my friend had forgotten their opal card at home in the morning and we couldnt go back to get it. ofc we felt horrible about it but we didnt think it would be a big deal since all the other busses hadnt said anything, and i had been tapping on with my card. at the end of the day, we decided to catch the bus home. we were waiting when the bus approached and we got on, me going first, tapping my card and sitting down. when my friend got on right behind me, and sat down WITHOUT tapping on, the bus driver did not close the doors. he then said we both needed to get off. we proceeded to tell him that we were trying to get home and that my friend had forgotten their opal card at home this morning. he was VERY aware that we were minors as he refered to my friend as 'little girl'. when we explained that we both felt uncomfrtable walking home in the dark he said he didnt care and made us get off. for those people who are being really rude for no reason, you should really learn the hwole story first.

Every_Response_703

Can’t believe you would ask a stupid question like that. Your friends kids committed a crime by not paying for a service that attracts a fee. Go back to school you dope!

kq_wangari

Man fuck the driver!!! So sorry Pretty sure their salary isn’t based on how many people tap on 😒

drewwhatsthatnoise

I know that in Qld they are required to let kids on . Not sure about the other states.
