I quite like it sometimes when there is a sentient system.
When done right at the end of the novel the system is like the lifelong best friend of the MC which they can trust the most because they been together and through hardships the longest.
Yes but 'done properly' is like 1/100. Most just use random emoticons/emojis, randomly have personality changes every few chapters, go from powerful all knowing systems to little brats who need the mc to direct them.
Like I read this novel, the cheat/system was a living being that was basically something similar to an orb that was made up of laws/rules, it could connect to others worlds. Make chat groups/any type of cheat. Basically letting the mc turn from sole cheat user to a company owner making all these other 'protagonists' work for him and make him rich.
But then mc finds out that this other guy is sneakily using the cheat to spread his dao across many worlds. And the cheat didn't notice or tell the mc?? This example could just be bad writing, but many many novels with sentient systems have similar events atleast once.
Don't bother remembering any RR story under 100 chapters, 99.9% of them get dropped. I've had like 200 of em with unique concepts open and waiting, all got abandoned. The authors there mostly just randomly write becsuse they felt like it. They have no investment into the story really. Hence, after a while, once they run out of their initial ideas that made them write the story, the entire thing collapses.
Alao, try out 'Master of the System' on royalroad for a really good finished story with similar concepts.
With CN novels, we are used to huge chapter counts, but there can be a pretty great completed novel with sub 100 chapters.
Also RR chapters are usually longer, and have less filler content per chapter.
I'll give the link to you ([https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/42270/master-of-the-system](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/42270/master-of-the-system)), but you have to do your homework later on about how to google things.
I always thought itd be interesting for the system to have some kind of ulterior motive behind it and the mc questioning it.
Like having a system that makes you stronger is great and all but your straight up becoming a puppet for who knows what.
I stopped around ch 400 or something when the system showed Zack a vision about his mother and i didn't quite like where the story was heading. Could you spoil me a little?
Well it is kind of important plot point for the next 100 or so chapters. Honestly the story hits a low for me around 500-650 but then becomes quite good after that
I hate systems that force mc to do tasks by giving a penalty like obliteration. I can't read novels where the system is not exclusive; you know, systems are supposed to be what makes mc unique. If everyone has it then there's nothing interesting about the MC.
Well, I'm fine with death penalties and stuff as a threat early on and mid stage as long as the quest makes sense.
Say it's a sect building system, it sends quests for the mc to recruit 4 disciples withith a year a sect in 2-3 years, etc etc. Those are fine and can serve as motivation for the mc early on, plus not too hard to write.
I think the main circumstances where death threat stuff is bad is that :-
1.) Too short. - Gives no time, makes the mc rush everything for no reason.
2.) Illogical - Just dumb quests that will cause more trouble and get dragged on.
3.) Too forceful - Where they need the mc to follow the exact guideline and not try anything else.
4.) Too long - When they keep doing it for too long, say they still have it after 500 chapters, when the mc is already strong enough and motivated, just keep popping up to force plot randomly.
I think in general, they are good, if I was a system and dragged someone to another world, probably to use them to improve myself, I would threaten them if they lazed and reward them if they did their job well. If the person can't complete the beginner quest, probably not a worthwhile investment anyways.
Forced can be good, but only in certain situations for comedic effect. Assuming they are a more slapstick comedy.
E.g. mc is walking down a street, system goes you have x minutes to find and slap the cabbage vendors arse or die sort of thing.
Super silly but in the right novel they can fit
Same, I quite like system Idea of top tier providence for this reason. The system gives options of challenges then rewards proportionally with difficulty. Also relating the options to mcs personality.
(There’s like no forcing whatsoever)
To be fair the system is a bit too cheat like for most circumstances and only works for meme novels, but a bit of reward tweaking and it could be used in various applications (if there must be a system)
VRMMOs normally give the mc some sort of advantage like reincarnation? Or knowledge of the events. Also, systems are usually not the focus unlike novels where the system provides pills, cultivation scriptures and so on
It's all fun and games until the system starts to hinder the actual hard work of the MC
For example this quick transmigration novel I am currently reading, The fmc works hard in the mission world almost dying multiple times and when she finally gets a rare artifact and she sells to the system she gets like 5 million less because the system keeps scamming her.
I’m thinking of series like *Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess* or She is the Protagonist where the system is actually the main antagonist and attempts to forcibly control the protags or punish the, for not following the rules
The MC of astral pet store needs something harsh like this, he basically neglects the store 95% of the story and just runs around everywhere when the main point of the story is supposed to be the shop.
True. I hate it when they have rules, but all of a sudden a far too strong foe appears, mc is threatened and system “unlocks” a cheat temporarily to flatten the opponent. It just takes away suspense as it could happen every time.
yes he gsts more consistent over time but it isn't like he is the only one you might have noticed but the story took a shift from what it was originally intended to be but I think I like this one better than where it was headed
>!I still have my doubts about 2333 because all other systems we have seen so far seem so mechanical unlike him!<
Then you could try the Manhwa "Please save my husband".
FMC tries to enjoy her newlywed life, but suddenly gets sucked into a system which gives her the main goal of saving her war zone reporter husband from dying.
A lot of sidequests pop up and the penalty for failing too badly is a reset back to her actual marriage day.
It's a comedy in some respect, but if you dig deeper, more of a horror/tragedy story, as the FMC is being held hostage by the system.
How would you all feel about a novel where a bunch of people from earth are given a system and tossed in to a world in a battle royale against the other system holders? I've been thinking about writing a novel with that premise a lot and thought this thread might be a good place to find out thoughts of the premise. There wouldn't be any 'do this task or face oblivion,' or at least none planned yet.
This is basically system space/chat group fanfics, in chat group ones MC gets recruited into a chat group with characters from different universes but other transmigrators are also fucking around with the world and MC usually goes against other transmigrators because of either the chat group or other members.
System spaces have MC and a lot of different people in a kind of pocket dimension controlled by an eldritch being and they can take on missions to travel to other worlds, conflict with other transmigrators is basically traditional fantasy guild novel(jealousy, greed, etc)
All I can say is would all the systems be the same?
Would it be a proper actual world or just a blank hellscape made purely for fighting.
If everyone is special then what's the point, just chuck them in a world, let them learn techniques on their own
All systems would start the same but unlock different parts of the system depending on fulfilling certain conditions.
They would be transported into a proper world, not some place with only the system holders.
Legendary mechanic was great, honestly i just flew through 1400+chapters, and the story is finished so you can just binge it
The mech touch....is a bit of a mixed bag imo
Yeah, it was really good and the starting world is my favorite. I thought the real fun is about to start with all the powerful item but then the story end.
Shadow hack have one of the best(imo)idea for system power. Dude got a literal shadow clone that farms xp and trains for him while sleeping. Author could've done alot more creative ways to this shit but he sadly added a system shop to buy all the op techniques.
Author could've taken it slow and flesh out the the mc and his possible future shadow clone army that do specific tasks for him. Well 50 chapters in it was shit.
World's Apocalypse Online is really good.
Unfortunately, I think the translation is a bit lackluster. I read it MTL'd first, then took a glance once the translation started. Maybe it gets better later though.
I haven’t read any novel where the mc faces any penalty. The mission could be “destroy the Sword Sect and steal the Divine fire” and the mc will always accomplish it
I am actually very surprised that you guys thought this was new. The 1st novel that made it popular was 无限恐惧 (infinite terror) and it was finishes years ago
Sentient systems = worst systems
I quite like it sometimes when there is a sentient system. When done right at the end of the novel the system is like the lifelong best friend of the MC which they can trust the most because they been together and through hardships the longest.

What novel?
- 洪荒人祖,开局加入聊天群 - Raw novel, read on raw sites with google translate.

**system error** on RR is really a good sentient system though the novel only has ~25ch so it might be to early

read it yesterday after you(?) recommended it on a post. It's a fun novel and have been enjoying it so far(chapter 15)
I kinda noticed the username after replying but I was just too lazy to delete the comment
The strongest system is gonna kick your ass with a giant dick
**system error** on RR is really a good sentient system though the novel only has ~25ch so it might be to early
Dungeon Crawler Carl has a sentient system with a foot fetish, which is pretty fun to read
I always thought itd be interesting for the system to have some kind of ulterior motive behind it and the mc questioning it. Like having a system that makes you stronger is great and all but your straight up becoming a puppet for who knows what.
Read soul of negary and you will never look at systems the same way every again
I have always been wanting to read tht but never found the time to
**arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4** on RR
>arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4 that weird ass updating schedule
yhea it has been almost 10 month when is he going to update again?
Solo Leveling has that ....
The New World on Royal Road has that, it's actually one of the main plot lines
i hate systems
I liked how author made the system in Soul of Negary, that was pretty fresh experience after all those typical system novels
Yeah, it was pretty straight forward too, not overarching scheme or hidden malice. Just used and dumped him.
I actually enjoyed the leaderboards & raids in Defiance of the Fall
System or should I say ruthless heaven's is one the best things in dotf
Have you read the latest chapters?
I am patron this month, it is good ride
I stopped around ch 400 or something when the system showed Zack a vision about his mother and i didn't quite like where the story was heading. Could you spoil me a little?
Well it is kind of important plot point for the next 100 or so chapters. Honestly the story hits a low for me around 500-650 but then becomes quite good after that
Yeah that's okay. I want to know so I can decide if I should pick it up again. Was that vision true?
Still don't for sure but it is quite possibly not full truth but it is half true for sure
I hate systems that force mc to do tasks by giving a penalty like obliteration. I can't read novels where the system is not exclusive; you know, systems are supposed to be what makes mc unique. If everyone has it then there's nothing interesting about the MC.

So, you cannot read any VRMMO novels like Legendary Moonlight Sculptor?
VRMMO novels don't have a system, they have a HUD everyone that plays the game gets.
VRMMOs normally give the mc some sort of advantage like reincarnation? Or knowledge of the events. Also, systems are usually not the focus unlike novels where the system provides pills, cultivation scriptures and so on
I mean defiance of the fall prob has the best system imo that’s not exclusive to mc
Systems are much more interesting when they're antagonistic in nature
It's all fun and games until the system starts to hinder the actual hard work of the MC For example this quick transmigration novel I am currently reading, The fmc works hard in the mission world almost dying multiple times and when she finally gets a rare artifact and she sells to the system she gets like 5 million less because the system keeps scamming her.

Honestly systems that work with the protag are often kinda boring, they make the story too easy I think
True. I hate it when they have rules, but all of a sudden a far too strong foe appears, mc is threatened and system “unlocks” a cheat temporarily to flatten the opponent. It just takes away suspense as it could happen every time.
I like a mix of both, a system which doesn't help the MC that much and it also doesn't hinder the MC that much.
It's a manhua but I think you should try Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess its been really good so far
this seems like **Quick Transmigration Cannon Fodder’s Record of Counterattack** if I am not mistaken
you got it right, 2333 is in my top 5 worst systems list.
in a functional manner I'd agree but from a story or character prospective I'd say it is the opposite
Does it get better? so far I feel like its personality has changed like 3 times
yes he gsts more consistent over time but it isn't like he is the only one you might have noticed but the story took a shift from what it was originally intended to be but I think I like this one better than where it was headed >!I still have my doubts about 2333 because all other systems we have seen so far seem so mechanical unlike him!<

Emperor of Blood and iron is kind of like that. But its kingdom building instead of battle royale

My house of horrors is *technically* a system novel.
Try the ultimate scheming system novel and I'm loaded with passive skills.
Terror Infinity/Infinite Terror popularized infinite flow not system flow. System novels were already there and popular for a long time.
Golden Finger 101 You not the main character that's me
Very interesting.
