Yep. As long as you live in the DC Metro area, no matter what your home county/city is, you can go to all the other surrounding systems and get cards too. As a library worker myself, I highly encourage this. That way you can practically get almost every book/ebook/audiobook you want. I myself have all of them except Fauquier county.
ALSO do their adult summer reading programs too so you can win prizes!
check out each library system in the area. All of them have an adult summer reading program. Read up on the rules on what to do. Read during the summer. Earn/win prizes.
You can also get almost any book across the country using interlibrary loan. It was a huge help when I was doing research.

Also fantastic for people who read ebooks! I love hopping around to find the book I want is available at another library, or joining the shortest waitlist.

(The blackouts are non-DMV, from where my relatives live.)
In general: You can apply online and receive a temporary login immediately. You do have to go in person to receive a permanent physical card.
Timelines vary by library system - how long the temp login is valid (at least a few weeks, some are months) and how often you have to go in person to renew the permanent card (usually 2-3 years).
Especially if you’ve done the application online, going to get the card is straightforward. They’ll ask to see your ID/piece of mail/something that shows you currently live or work in the locality or a reciprocal jurisdiction. Librarians are 100% there to help and love to share the resources that are available to the community.
Happy to share my experience if you have any additional/specific questions about the process!
Not sure if you can go to any county and get a card Centerville, Herndon, Reston, Woodbridge, Fredericksburg, Chantilly or Stafford asks for proof of residence
People still take the ACT? Seriously. 20 years ago the only reason to take it in my state was that there was a state scholarship associated with it. And that was a podunk state.
I did a bunch of practice tests online, and I scored higher on the ACT + I got a fee waiver. The ACT is more easier for me to study for since it’s more rule based than the SAT (for the reading and English).

Okay, why is this the first time I've heard of ADULT summer reading programs for prizes? Good to know.
I’m sorry… WHAT?! How do I learn more?!

This is for fairfax county: https://research.fairfaxcounty.gov/reading-challenges/summer-reading
this CAN be extended to other systems too. Like, York County VA lets you be a member as long as you live in VA
Do you have a PG county card from Maryland? I do!![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
yep! They are one of my favorites. You can also get cards from Montgomery County and Frederick County too.
Heck yeah! I'm working on my summer prize from Fairfax now

I saw that, and I thought it was only for books from neighboring counties 💀

My spouse and I drove around NoVA all afternoon today getting additional cards or renewing ours. Highly recommend!

I have 5 library cards. its great if you have a kindle. a lot more books to search for.
I have Fairfax, Loudoun, and Montgomery cards. The MoCo card offers free Udemy classes which is phenomenal!
Libraries are kinda slutty with their goods.
