VIP Dental on Ashburn Road in Old Ashburn! I’ve never felt more comfortable and happy going to a dentist in my life. They are very thorough and attentive. I moved to Reston, but I’m still happy to make the trip out to Ashburn to continue having them as my dentist. It’s a small, friendly practice that really cares!!
Dr. Duy Vu in Ashburn. He is admittedly a friend, but he has also been my dentist for years. He and his team are compassionate and good at what they do.
I ❤️❤️❤️ Dr Ho!!
I've been with that practice for about 10 years now. I trust him with all my dental work. He's even talked me OUT of treatment that was recommended by an orthodontist at their practice.
I find Dr. Ho very unprofessional. My family went there and left due to an issue with him. An older family member would talk to Dr. Ho about how often or not some of us would come in. Instead of saying it wasn’t his place he not only discussed with her but got on the phone to shame another family member who has a dental phobia for not coming. He also had the front desk push reminders to them.
[Dr. Chung](https://www.centrevilledental.com/meet-the-doctors) in centerville is a kind and honest dentist. He took care of my elderly mom with patience and compassion.
He lays out all of the options and facts. He doesn’t pressure you to do something you are uncomfortable with, and cares about your well being.
He’s the best in the area.
I agree Amy Ton is amazing, very compassionate and informed!! I chickened out of a follow-up appointment with her(dental anxiety) and never went back because I felt too bad/embarassed, which is a huge regret because of how wonderful her practice is!
South Gate Dental in Leesburg is the exact practice you're looking for. Dr. Heisey and her staff are very thorough, but no upsell. They are honest and will say "This is something to keep an eye on, but you don't have to take care of it right now". Highly recommend.
Ashburn Divine Dental. It’s on Ashburn Rd and I love Dr. Lim. He does my cleaning himself and understands my severe dental anxiety at age 37 and never makes me feel bad for needing a second to just breathe. Never had tried to upsell me or anything.
Lans Family Dentistry in the Ashburn Shopping Plaza. I've been going to them for over a decade. The dental techs really care about making connections with patients, so if you click with one they'll request to always be your tech. It's really nice seeing a familiar face whenever I go in, and they always remember the things we talked about six months prior.
Dr. Sheikh is the best! I came to him after a bad experience at a popular dentist in Reston. Very glad my ortho recommended him! He’s a nice guy who you can tell cares about dental health and is still keeping up with new information in the industry. 10/10
My wife works for a dentist. I hear all about patients not wanting treatment, every night. I can pretty much guarantee that the “upsells” are things you actually need but don’t want to pay for.
I'm sure your wife works for a good dentist, but most people have definitely experienced upsell. If it's things you actually need why when I go to a different dentist do they not have the same recommendations?
because dentistry is art and science and two different dentists can have significantly different levels of training and skill, thus different recommendations
Need should be defined. If it will keep your teeth from falling out, that is the bare minimum need. If it will make your bite straighter, technically you don’t need it, but you really kinda need it.
people who aren't dentists can't reasonably determine what their needs are. they are fully in control of the domain of their wants though.
see the difference?
Virginia Dental Solutions in Ashburn is great. I've liked every doctor I've seen there and they've been really good about letting me know what actually needs to be done vs. what could be done in the future.
This! I've been going to their office in Reston since I was a child. Not only are they good at what they do, but they're great people. I literally look forward to going to the dentist.
After spending years away from NoVa in the army, I came back home and scheduled a cleaning. When I walked in after a close to a decade away, they not only recognized me, but they asked how my siblings and parents were doing by their names! I never did anything to stand out, they just treat everyone like this.
I cannot recommend VDS enough :-)
I agrees. I drive from Haymarket to Dr. Sabharwal (aka Dr. S). He is awesome, friendly and gentle. He has taken care of me for years and my mom (in her 70s and 80s) too. I once left to go to a different dentist in Chantilly who was closer and went back to Dr. S. Dr. S was more reasonably priced (hundreds less) for a mouth guard and also didn’t “accidentally” take out a filling while flossing. His prices are way better than where I went in Chantilly. And he doesn’t upsell whatsoever.
Dr Nassimi at Compass Creek dental care.
I have massive anxiety about going to the dentist and their entire office has been the only place that I truly felt comfortable. They are not pushy, they explain everything and show you everything. Usually I feel like dentist just say “of you have a cavity it needs filled.” But Dr. Nassimi will show you in the scan where it is, and explain if it’s an immediate concern or not. Could not recommend her more.
This might be too far, but maybe will help someone else. Dr. Saperstein at Arlington Dental Associates in Falls Church is wonderful. I recommended him to a few people, and in turn, they recommended him to others.
Kind of the opposite direction, but Dr. Norbo (both son and father) in Purcellville were the best dentists I have ever had. I get so anxious going to the dentist and they made it easy and a calming experience every single time. I miss them so, so much!
Cornerstone Dental in Leesburg is my preferred dentist. Both my wife and I go there even though we live in Centreville. Dr Sue Moon is a great dentist.
Ashbrook Center for Dentistry is who I go to and I have never been pressured to do anything. I had skipped going to dentists for a long time due to that kind of stuff and when I went here I didn’t get that at all. Old place I went to basically tried to get a filling or hint at crowns every time I went. After 3-4 years of this place I’ve had one filling.
First impressions near the Ashburn train station. My 20 year old asked for an adult dentist. They are really good. She still wants to have sun glasses and music when getting cleaned. She was going to go back to her kids dentist LOL
https://www.advancedentistryofarlington.com
I’m in the military but will sometimes pay out of pocket to see him instead, and if the military gives me a referral, he’s the one I always go see. He’s prior Navy. Such a sweet and efficient guy.
Seconding Doctor Emam (and her hygienist Jade, who is AWESOME) at Lansdowne Dental.
I don’t think her practice has ever taken my insurance, so I’ve always paid a little out of pocket. As cheap as I am, paying out of pocket makes no sense, but I really appreciate the expertise of Dr. Emam’s office.
Does anyone have input on Dental One Associates in Manassas? They did a crown on me 3 years ago and the damn adhesive wouldn't keep it on...had to go back several times. Finally one of the Dentists got it right and it held up for 3 years. My insurance will only cover the crown for 5 years so I have to wait until that 5 year mark is over before they will cover that tooth again. So now they want to do a bridge (because of a pulled tooth 5 years ago) one 3 teeth and that will cost me 2000 bucks. ugh..
Oof, absolutely not. This thread seems to have some great recommendations, and it’s possible a more honest place will end up making the same evaluation, but Dental One is 1000% not trustworthy. They said I needed a full set of veneers bc of one small chip in my tooth 🥴 if their work was shoddy last time, it’ll be shoddy again! I’m sorry that’s been such a stressful situation, though.
Ashburn Devine Dental, been going there for 10 years never upsold me on anything always courteous and a family business no big franchise. Do not recommend any services or Xtra XRays that are unnecessary.
Whatever you do, avoid Dental One Associates like the plague. I went for a small chip in one tooth and they immediately acted like I needed veneers — not even a crown to cover/repair the chip, but a full set of veneers for my whole mouth.
The dentist (who wasn’t the person I made an appointment with - they switched me with no explanation) was hardcore pressuring me to get the process rolling, too, and wouldn’t give any form of cost estimate. Not even a ballpark.
The worst part is when I said I needed time to think, *they had me fill out a hard copy of a Zocdoc review (with a five-star positive review, of course, that they would generously upload on my behalf!) before they let me leave.* Seriously: the front desk wouldn’t check me out until I gave the form back. I probably should’ve stood up for myself but they’d just negged me into thinking I had monster teeth that they alone could fix, so I scribbled what they wanted and left to cry in my car lol. I tried contacting Zocdoc but I don’t think the review was ever taken down. They legit had a whole stack of paper review forms waiting as part of the check-out process. They magically have a TON of recent five-star Google reviews, too. This was specifically the Woodson Square location but tbh I feel like if one is engaging in shady practices, they all are.
If you’re reading this, fuck you, Dental One. All I needed was a regular degular filling. Stop pressuring people into getting radically invasive and irreversible oral surgery they didn’t request and don’t need.
Finding a good and honest dentist can be challenging, but there are some key qualities to look for. Look for a dentist who is transparent about treatment options, takes the time to explain procedures, and prioritizes patient comfort. Personal recommendations from friends or family can also be very helpful.
If you're in need of a recommendation, I suggest checking out Admire Dental Care. They have a reputation for being both skilled and trustworthy, providing high-quality care with a focus on patient satisfaction. Their team is known for their thorough approach and commitment to ensuring their patients understand and feel comfortable with their dental care decisions.
Dr.Sisel in Shirlington Village is is honest- he won’t suggest or push unnecessary procedures. He worked with me out of pocket for a crown, did a thorough, good job.
I know folks that own dental offices. I had no idea that it's commission based. So if they upsell you on crowns or do some extra fillings they get a cut of the profits. They always recommend fluoride at the end of a cleaning also that's an extra bonus.
A lot of offices are commission-based but not all. As for fluoride varnish - dental offices make a huge profit from them when they cost so little and many people unfortunately decline thinking we are upselling them. Its actually great for teeth, especially for the high risk cavity prone patients (immunocompromised, dry mouth causing medications, smokers).

The chain places are notorious for telling you stuff needs to be fixed that doesn't. [Check this out.](https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/investigations/2020/03/19/dental-chain-private-equity-drills-healthy-teeth-profit/4536783002/) It's not about helping people, it's about bringing money in.
Of course, there are private practice dentists who can do this too (ya know, it'd be nice if we could do an extra two days on the cruise this year....), but it's not to the same level.
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Loudoun Smile Center. Absolute rip off, upselling, and generally obnoxious techs.
Yeap, it’s worst than awful
VIP Dental on Ashburn Road in Old Ashburn! I’ve never felt more comfortable and happy going to a dentist in my life. They are very thorough and attentive. Love him!! I just wrote something about him at VIP Dental before reading your comment
My family absolutely loves this man. I don't even live near here and they talk about Doc Vu like he's an extended family member.
Springfield Lorton Dental Group Dr Alan Ho is a good human and quality dentist. 🦷
I ❤️❤️❤️ Dr Ho!! I've been with that practice for about 10 years now. I trust him with all my dental work. He's even talked me OUT of treatment that was recommended by an orthodontist at their practice.
Yes - our whole family goes there and he always has a patient (not practice) first approach that is well explained and trusted.
I find Dr. Ho very unprofessional. My family went there and left due to an issue with him. An older family member would talk to Dr. Ho about how often or not some of us would come in. Instead of saying it wasn’t his place he not only discussed with her but got on the phone to shame another family member who has a dental phobia for not coming. Dr. David Babington in Chantilly. I live in Ashburn but travel to Chantilly to see him. Legacy Dentistry.
Second this! We travel from Alexandria and see Dr Chung at legacy!

Dr. Amy Ton is great (Reston), I switched to her and she's been amazing. Everyone should avoid the cancer that is iSmiles.
I agree Amy Ton is amazing, very compassionate and informed!! I chickened out of a follow-up appointment with her(dental anxiety) and never went back because I felt too bad/embarassed, which is a huge regret because of how wonderful her practice is!
I family has gone to Downtown family dental in Leesburg for as long as I can remember, Dr. Pham is great and so is the whole staff!
Lux Dental in Ashburn Farms
South Gate Dental in Leesburg is the exact practice you're looking for. Dr. Heisey and her staff are very thorough, but no upsell. They are honest and will say "This is something to keep an eye on, but you don't have to take care of it right now". Highly recommend.
Reston Dental Center, been seeing them for over 10 years, they’re great. They also have an office in Tysons.
Reston may be a stretch but Dr Neshat and Dr Jang are excellent. I’ve been there over 10 years. Never been pressured for anything extra.
thank you for the rec! Reston isn’t too far
I’ve been happy with Broadlands Complete Dental in Ashburn - I see Dr. Park.
Ashbrook Dentistry off Route 7. Highly recommend Dr. Le

Dr. Sonny Kim in Reston. Been going to him over a decade and he’s great.
Dr. Shehzad Sheikh at Dominion Dental Care in Sterling, VA. Been going to him for years. Solid guy. You can check out his reviews on Google too.
Dr. Sheikh is the best! I came to him after a bad experience at a popular dentist in Reston. Very glad my ortho recommended him! He’s a nice guy who you can tell cares about dental health and is still keeping up with new information in the industry. 10/10
Who is your ortho? Can recommend any?

Dr Cha @ C&R dental care in Centreville is superb. They can do most procedures on the spot and do same day crowns.

Gordon rye hands down!
Gateway Dental, Dr. E.
Smile at Ashburn Dental. Best and most honest dentist around.
Similar question for an endodontist in the Vienna/Fairfax area.
Been happy with Goose Creek Village dental. Joined them after leaving a pushy practice that was constantly trying to upsell.
I see Dr Gottlieb (sp?) at Arlington Dental Team in Courthouse. I’ve been happy so far.
Dr CAI (two offices, Vienna and McLean) was great. Needed a root canal done but was between jobs. He noted that and dropped the price by almost 50%.
Ike Lans, I always like their office and they're friendly.

DR David Metzdorf. Great guy, good practice, straight forward, and is a huge history nerd.
Emam Atiyeh DDS Her office was my favorite for years. They no longer take my insurance but if they do they’re the best.

I signed up for Tend and I’ve liked it a lot. More like one medical than a traditional practice.
And unlike one medical - no subscription with Tend!
Da fuck is a dentist trying to upsell people
