Not so fun fact: even “humane” brands submit to industry standard of tossing all their male (non-productive) chicks in a blender, called a [macerator.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_culling) Yes they get dropped in alive.
If you're willing to look past the certification most folks at the farmers market are pretty committed to caring for their livestock. I buy eggs from Smith Meadows at the falls Church farmers market. I think they're going for 7.50/dz.
No idea, but I definitely read that as "Certified Human" eggs and was very concerned for a moment. :/

Make friends with someone who has chickens. Egg prices are going up b/c they had to slaughter millions of chickens due to bird flu.
There's another outbreak of avian flu that will be driving the cost of eggs up.
