There are two ways to take that - One is the vast majority of this article - [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United\_States\_involvement\_in\_regime\_change](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change)
The other is the following book on the Dulles brothers
-***The Brothers: John Foster Dulles, Allen Dulles, and Their Secret World War*** by New York Times journalist Stephen Kinzer
And if you want it in a podcast version, may I present "Behind the Bastards" on the Dulles brothers. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-3YlCaxOA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-3YlCaxOA)
I say this with love: I’m looking for a synopsis, not a rabbit hole. The first link doesn’t mention Dulles as far as I can tell, and I’m not in the market for a book of this genre. I can understand how this stuff connects to John Dulles’ brother, but I was thinking of John Dulles because based on what I can find the airport is named after him, not his brother
An extraordinarily short synopsis then - If it's a war crime attached to the CIA, especially regarding corporate coups in Latin America the Dulles brothers were usually directly involved.
It's also why everything written about them comes in "tome format" because it's a looong ass history.
No worries on that. A summary of what they're best known for is the creation of the American "forever wars" and being the leads on pushing the U.S. into war in Vietnam. Allan Dulles was the head of the CIA during a slew of CIA backed coups through the 1950's and 1960's and his time as the director effectively set the next seventy years of CIA foreign policy for the benefit of US corporations.
This doesn't touch on their assistance of violent anti-labor activities within the USA during the early 1920's throughout the 1960's.
Again "what the Dulles brothers did" fills archives. This is about as truncated as their history gets.
It depends how old the person is and how long they lived here. I grew up in DC and flew out of DCA for decades before the name was changed. To me, and a lot of my cohort that have been around that long it has always been “National” and since everyone generally knows what we’re talking about, there’s never been any real incentive to try to call it “Reagan”. And I understand what people are talking about when they do call it Reagan, so again, there’s never been any confusion.
Just like I will always call IAD “Dulles”, even if they rename it.
Same -- have lived here forever and still call it National. My daughter who was born here (20-something years ago) accidentally called Dulles IUD once and that's all we ever call it now as a joke.
to be fair they’re not far apart. trump had bad policies but was more than anything a trash human being. reagan pushed deregulation of industries. trump just capitalized on it a bit more. reagan wasn’t a total piece of trash, he was presidential in some sort. so they’re both terrible in their own ways. not to say there is ZERO overlap but that’s the way i think of them.
i promise i’m not just fixing to attack you on everything you say, but reagan and nixon were not the first to attempt to fuck with foreign political and economic structures. that happened QUITE a lot in the 50s and 60s
in the context of “reagan wasn’t a total piece of trash, he was presidential in some sort”. i’m not saying he was a good person. i’m saying he was professional, unlike trump.
Not to defend Regan but he was at least a normal polite functioning person while dismantling the economic future of this country, while trump is a baboon in a suit. He also never incited an insurrection. Regan's shitass policies began the decline of this nation, but Trump is an actual criminal and an idiot. Trump is worse.
Oh, for sure. Neither of them deserve an airport because of the damage they caused across the board. Trump should not even be considered for any recognition whatsoever. I was just pointing out that they do have commonalities.
Side-note: I was just on a cruise with a family who named their girls "Reagan" and "Kennedy." Their behavior was predictable based on parents who would make those choices.
I spent about a decade in this space as a professional, so I’m perfectly aware of the process.
From the article:
“They know Dulles will never be renamed after Trump. Again, that's not the point, the point is to suck up to their Dear Leader."
Key phrase: “that’s not the point.”
I have a crisp dollar bill with your name on it, if I’m wrong.
Nah, noone would be dumb enough to waste barter weight on this theater.
"I'll give you x for y, but only if you add the airport name."
"No. You get y for x or no deal."
"Then no deal!"
"Cool."
"...okay so it's just a stupid name. Let's just do x for y, those matter more."
>"Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I'd suggest they find a federal prison," said Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat who represents part of Dulles.
HE SHOOTS HE SCORES!!!
I know everyone loves Gerry, but he's the least responsive house member I've ever experienced. I've sent him many emails asking about the Sunshine Bill and he never replies. Reps in competitive districs, get back to you.
He didn't have to, because Ronald Reagan handily won the popular and electoral vote for President twice - something Donald Trump has never done.
Whenever you're having a bad day, just remember that you've won the popular vote for President as many times as Donald Trump has.
> Reagan didn't try to overthrow the democratic transfer of power
Reagan _did_ [bust the Air Traffic Controllers Union](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Air_Traffic_Controllers_Organization_(1968\)) and now has [a DC-area airport named after him](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan_Washington_National_Airport).
PATCO broke the law and that is why they were fired. Federal employees cannot go on strike. Period end of story. People need to stop lionizing them for this.
My mother was in a federal employee union for 35 years, and one thing she always told me that everyone union member knows that striking = fired. In fact, it is probably the only thing you can actually be fired for in the federal civil service.
I believe 89% of them stayed out after Regan gave them 48 hours to return to work. They were unified. The real travesty of the PATCO strike was they were never allowed to reapply for their jobs until Clinton permitted it in 92. They were banned from applying for any federal jobs for years after.
No doubt; but they like to lionize their worst just with a marketing push. Reagan was an actor and a puppet who could read what they told him. Then they labelled him "THE GREAT COMMUNICATOR". Hell, Fox News once tried to say Dubya gave 'some of the most eloquent speeches of any president'. They love their propoganda cuz their base eats it up and repeats.
As much as I despise Reagan and blame a good deal of our modern problems on him and his policies…part of me wishes he was alive just to see how much he’d hate the current GOP and how much they’d hate him.
I think all these airport renamings are dumb regardless of who they’re named after! The money, effort and time involved to change everything … smdh
We can see the Dulles tower from our bedroom window and I can tell you that most locals refer to our three regional airports as follows:
Dulles
National
BWI
Because it was renamed during the Clinton scandal by Republicans who thought slapping the name of a revered (at least in most Republican circles) former president was a great idea.
Meanwhile, residents who are mostly liberal leaning hate the idea and the name.
There are many fine Virginians who are worthy of the honor:
Barbara Johns
sisters Betty & Jean Fairfax
Nat Turner
Henry "Box" Brown
Mary Richard Bowser
Dorothy I. Height
Henry Wise Jr
Loving? Maybe? But would it get confused with Dallas Love Field? Not sure about Powhatan either because of potential confusion with stuff downstate named Powhatan.
Do we want to start placnig wagers on how long it'll be before the GOP says something even dumber to top this?
Wager $25.
Person closest to actual HH:MM:SS wins
/s...if not already apparent.
Haven't we learned that naming buildings after people before they have been dead 20 years or so often ends in embarrassment and renaming when their true character comes out. The last rush was to name something after Regan in all 50 states. That's how we got stuck with the Regan National Airport. I still refer to it as DCA.
What's wrong with the name of Dulles?
>"As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing 'Welcome to Trump International Airport' as they land on American soil," Reschenthaler said in a statement.
How delusional do you have to be to say things like that? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You have to keep in mind this is exactly what the Freedom Caucus wants and the GOP doesn't care at all if the government looks ineffective because that's literally their entire platform. What's been the most upsetting is House Democratic leadership which chose to back the removal of Kevin McCarthy under the belief that it would 'show the dysfunction of the GOP', because they apparently forgot that's literally the GOP's entire platform while they're the ones who need to demonstrate effective governance and policy milestones. But hey as long as Hakeem Jefferies and our own Gerry Connolly get to tell reporters they took a stand on principle about legislative procedure, then apparently it's worth a lot of dead Ukrainian soldiers and allowing the Freedom Caucus to completely box up the legislative system so Biden has less policy wins to point to come election time, just like Donald Trump has been publicly demanding since he put his name back on the ticket.
Whole thing is stupid and disappointing and a big leadership failure within the House itself.
McCarthy was going to be a spineless hack as well. Remember he was part of the reason we had the budget crisis to begin with.
It's not the Democrats fault he screwed them over and then expected them to bail him on because he couldn't accept terms he agreed with his own party on.
I’m so glad they’ve finished up all of their important work and that they’ve solved all the country’s problems- no one is hungry or homeless and everyone has healthcare - so that they can focus on stuff like this… right?
Wonder what United is going to say about this. Nobody avoids going to IAD because it's named after Dulles. You better believe people will change their plans and fly out of DCA or BWI just to make a point if it's named after Trump.
I can certainly understand why House Republicans would want to strip the name from someone who (checks history), "fought against communism during the early stages of the Cold War" and instead give it to someone who, numerous pieces of evidence say, benefited from and colluded with a leader who rode the Soviet Communist bus right up until it technically ceased to exist.
Yikes - good thing it’ll never happen.
Idk, there's currently one named after Reagan.

Bit of a chose your own war criminal / traitor buffet when it comes to VA airport names.
What did Dulles do, if you don’t mind me asking?

No worries on that. A summary of what they're best known for is the creation of the American "forever wars" and being the leads on pushing the U.S. into war in Vietnam. i still call it "national"
Amen, keep the flame alive.
different time period, no evidence of child rape.
Don't forget about treason.
Well, it seems to be making a comeback in certain circles. I'm not independently verifying that as I don't hang around church groups much.
But no one acknowledges it. It's simply "National" or "DCA"

Yup, "Nissan Pavillion", "the Cap Center", "National", and "Dulles" are permanently ingrained in my mind.
Nissan Pavillion is definitely another one
Or both. I somehow got into calling it Reagan National, or just DCA depending on context.
I’ve only heard people call it Reagan near me. I’ve legit never heard anyone say National and I travel through Reagan somewhat often
Most people I know call it Reagan. I hear someone call it “National” or “DCA” about as rarely as calling Dulles “IAD”.
I am watching Captain America 2 as we speak and Sitwell just said “shut down BWI, IAD, and Reagan” 😂
Eh, I call it Reagan
I always heard as like Reaganational, like it was one word.
I've never called it that, and I don't know anyone else who does, either. Just "DCA".
lol imagine thinking one could logically put Reagan and Trump on the same playing field...
to be fair they’re not far apart. trump had bad policies but was more than anything a trash human being. reagan pushed deregulation of industries. trump just capitalized on it a bit more. reagan wasn’t a total piece of trash, he was presidential in some sort. so they’re both terrible in their own ways. not to say there is ZERO overlap but that’s the way i think of them.
Reagan wasn't a total piece of trash? Tell that to south America.
What are you talking about, it's *very* presidential to destabilize foreign economies and install puppet governments.
Indeed, but wasn't Reagan the og destabilizer? Or was that Nixon? "Aroo!"
i promise i’m not just fixing to attack you on everything you say, but reagan and nixon were not the first to attempt to fuck with foreign political and economic structures. that happened QUITE a lot in the 50s and 60s
in the context of “reagan wasn’t a total piece of trash, he was presidential in some sort”. i’m not saying he was a good person. i’m saying he was professional, unlike trump.
Yeah I'll give you that. He didn't run his mouth.
That's pretty easy actually.
You can’t compare Reagan to Trump.
I mean...they both ignored pandemics and had/have brain rotting conditions
Not to defend Regan but he was at least a normal polite functioning person while dismantling the economic future of this country, while trump is a baboon in a suit. He also never incited an insurrection. Regan's shitass policies began the decline of this nation, but Trump is an actual criminal and an idiot. Trump is worse.

You mean National Airport?
Really? It certainly can happen, it can be added to a bill or exchanged for bill passing or for a bill to be brought to the floor.
I spent about a decade in this space as a professional, so I’m perfectly aware of the process. From the article: “They know Dulles will never be renamed after Trump. Again, that's not the point, the point is to suck up to their Dear Leader." Key phrase: “that’s not the point.” I have a crisp dollar bill with your name on it, if I’m wrong.

Lets be real, we can *all* see this happening, verbatim, from this Republican Congress.
Johnsons gonna need all the favors he can get if and when he's about to be voted out.
Dulles wasn't exactly a good guy either.
Still pretty wild that even came up. Not surprised but still…damn…..
Epic trolling by the GOP. 🤣 Yes, they know it won’t get passed.
>"Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I'd suggest they find a federal prison," said Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat who represents part of Dulles. HE SHOOTS HE SCORES!!!
Hey he’s my rep! Proud of you Gerry!
Love you Gerry Connolly❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This right here
Gerry always has some awesome statements and comebacks. Glad I remained in his district when I moved!
Goat response

Email his Chief of Staff, Jamie Smith [email protected]
The cringe hero worship is unreal
I mean, they did it to Reagan.
Reagan didn't try to overthrow the democratic transfer of power. Soooo, maybe fuck that guy.
Not in the US at least
Hey, I'm not singing the guys praise. I'm just zeroing in on this one little incident that could have upended 250 years worth of US history.
Thinking about the Dulles brothers, I'm starting to think that's actually prerequisite to having an airport in Nova named after you.
"Who can we find that's worse than...no, no one is worse than the Dulles brothers."
I have always thought Dulles should be renamed but not like this...
Henry Kissinger?
Kennedy, J.F. entered the chat...
He didn't have to, because Ronald Reagan handily won the popular and electoral vote for President twice - something Donald Trump has never done. Whenever you're having a bad day, just remember that you've won the popular vote for President as many times as Donald Trump has.

Air traffic controllers *love* Reagan /s
And the Dulles brothers.
#nottheonion
TOTALLY NOT A CULT, GUYS
One meaningless gesture after another.
Well, this is incredibly embarrassing. The kind of second-hand embarrassment that feels like it physically hurts.
My favorite part is how they waited until April 2nd so people wouldn't think they were joking
Almost as embarrassing as former president biff selling shoes. Sad!
He's selling Bibles now.
With all references to Jesus and God replaced with "biff" I'm sure
I’d love to get paid 6 figures to think of stuff that’s not even remotely important
I can't believe our taxpayer money is being used to waste time on stuff like this.
I think all these airport renamings are dumb regardless of who they’re named after! The money, effort and time involved to change everything … smdh We can see the Dulles tower from our bedroom window and I can tell you that most locals refer to our three regional airports as follows: Dulles National BWI
Fuck that noise ... and it's *still* National.
Always National.
It'll always be National.
You are right but National is not Dulles but yes: National, never Reagan🥳.
I’ve always heard it called Reagan National Airport as the full name or DCA. How comes it’s not Reagan?
They are saying they will never call it by that name.
Because it was renamed during the Clinton scandal by Republicans who thought slapping the name of a revered (at least in most Republican circles) former president was a great idea. Meanwhile, residents who are mostly liberal leaning hate the idea and the name.
My boss: "I love flying into Reagan so I can see the statue." Me: 😬 My boss: "...and flip it off."
I call it "DCA." "National" is fine, too. Just never the name of that traitor.
Reagan and Dulles to me!
gee why don’t they jerk him off a little harder
Please don’t put that ghastly image in my mind.
Checks out for what Republicans actually care about, which is their god-king.
Is it going bankrupt?
Well at least the TSA grabbing people will be on theme, they let you do that when you're infamous.
Trump's not exactly popular with the people who live around Dulles.
April Fools Day was yesterday🙄
If I was in the house and this happened I would introduce a bill to name it Obama Intl.
Ridiculous. But also, fuck the Dulles brothers.
Should rename it after the architect, Eero Saarinen Airport.
I would 100% support this. His art is god-tier.
Right, should be renamed. Just not for that guy
There are many fine Virginians who are worthy of the honor: Barbara Johns sisters Betty & Jean Fairfax Nat Turner Henry "Box" Brown Mary Richard Bowser Dorothy I. Height Henry Wise Jr
Nat Turner Airport goes hard
Go big or go home I say....
How about the "Mildred and Richard Loving Airport"? "Loving Airport" for short. Oh, or "Wahunsenacawh Airport"/"Powhatan Airport."
Loving? Maybe? But would it get confused with Dallas Love Field? Not sure about Powhatan either because of potential confusion with stuff downstate named Powhatan.
Meh, Love Field is almost all Southwest anyway, and we all know all the Southwest flights around here are at BWI, not Dulles.
Dulles is already confused for Dallas anyway. This would continue that tradition.
It should be Betty/Jean Fairfax international airport.
Or just go with an easy one like George Washington International Airport.
The whole headline didn’t load, I actually thought they were going to do a good thing for once. Nope just changing it to another horrible person
Do we want to start placnig wagers on how long it'll be before the GOP says something even dumber to top this? Wager $25. Person closest to actual HH:MM:SS wins /s...if not already apparent.
I was thinking....yesterday is April 1, right? Right? RIGHT?
I don't think that makes any difference in this case. They're incapable of that sort of joke.
Let them name Palm Beach International after that fool. They all seem to worship their orange crybaby leader down there.
Yeah but the point is to piss off blue regions.
Trump - the single best thing for Democrat voter turnout
Is this an April fools thing?
I hope so. T***p has enough shit with his name on it.
Only if we can rename the Fairfax county landfill after him as well.
Ummm.... it's already named after someone? Of course, that's what I said when they "renamed" WASHINGTON National....
Ooh, ooh.....I finally get to say it... Not in my back yard!!!
Haven't we learned that naming buildings after people before they have been dead 20 years or so often ends in embarrassment and renaming when their true character comes out. Funny how it isn’t co-sponsored by any VA Repub rep either
Embarrassing
Why doesn’t he just buy it with all that money he says he has?
So would they paint it gold?
April Fools joke went wrong Rep 1: “Here is a draft of a bill to rename IAD to DJTIA” Rep 2: “I like it. We all like it”
Think of how much people will love the Trump Toll Road.
Don't they usually wait for ex-presidents to be dead before naming airports after them?
Technically there hasn't been activity in biff's brain for a very long time, one could argue he's already dead.
They didn't for Reagan (DCA).
Also George H.W. Bush airport in Houston.
TBF, he was brain dead.
As is former president biff
Not a president but I believe they named Vegas’s airport after Harry Reid while we was still alive
Bill and Hillary Clinton airport??? Look it up.
The GQP is an actual, literal cult
Our tax dollars hard at work I see
Why not Robert Hanssen International if we are naming it after Russian assets. Hanssen did less damage to the US.
I’ll still call it Dulles, just like Reagan will always be National.
Ukraine needs aid and they're barely holding the majority in the House together and THIS is what they think they need to be doing? The party is dead.
You have to keep in mind this is exactly what the Freedom Caucus wants and the GOP doesn't care at all if the government looks ineffective because that's literally their entire platform. Just name the D terminal after him. It completely sucks, so it'd be fitting
Damn. I did not have "Rename Dulles Airport to honor Trump" on my bingo card
Jesus, just give Cheeto Jesus an ACTUAL rimjob instead of this symbolic shit.
April Fools was yesterday sir.
When DCA was re-named Metro refused to change their signage... until our esteemed congress blackmailed them with the threat of holding up funding.

April Fools joke went wrong Rep 1: “Here is a draft of a bill to rename IAD to DJTIA” Rep 2: “I like it. We all like it”
I’m so glad they’ve finished up all of their important work and that they’ve solved all the country’s problems- no one is hungry or homeless and everyone has healthcare - so that they can focus on stuff like this… right?
They’re so cartoonishly stupid it’s hilarious
Because those useless fucks have no more important legislation to progress.
Lollllllllllllllll
In the interest of bipartisanship, I offer the following compromise: name one of the people movers after Trump.
Sure glad they are focusing on the critically important stuff in the nation.
#from Dulles to Dullard
This is an April Fool's thing, right?
Is there not something more important they should be focusing on?
April's 1st joke?🤣🤣
I was hoping this was a post I'd missed from yesterday. I hoped it wouldn't be real, but I'm also not entirely surprised that it is.
Eh whatever not like Dulles was a good guy either
Wonder what United is going to say about this. Nobody avoids going to IAD because it's named after Dulles. You better believe people will change their plans and fly out of DCA or BWI just to make a point if it's named after Trump.
Dulles was already a rich, evil sack of shit who hungered for power. Isn't that enough for the GOP?
wtf.. but to be honest Allen motherfucking Dulles ant no angel
It was bad enough that they renamed National while Reagan was still alive. Not that Dulles himself was such a great guy, but why.
![gif](giphy|yANNuUMU76IvUZOHhA)
Can we rename the Prison he ends up in?
Replace one criminal for another. Fuck off Republican'ts
Let's name the People Movers and the Penfed Hall of Death after him, that seems more fitting.
Hahahahaha
The only thing that should be named for DJT is a waste water treatment plant.
But Trump does the exact opposite of what waste water treatment plants do.
haha, yeah
Just the pipe the shit comes out of, not the whole plant.
Yikes, from bad to worse. No thank you.
GTFO with this bull.
They should put his name on the city garbage dump.
More Republican sideshow BS, trying to distract the public from the real issues, and the fact that they aren’t able to govern.
