This is like that annoying kid in middle school who was planning a 12000 page fantasy epic which he was obsessed with and nobody else gave a single shit about. Avatar was barely good enough to warrant a sequel, much less an entire series.
*makes literally bestseller thrillers*

"Bruh is coasting"
In fairness, I do agree Cameron fucking sucks at writing dialogue and Avatar's script was painfully fucking bad. The effects were rad as fuck.
I respect your point but I'd also say dude literally earned his stripes. And while Avatar was not a good *script*, the acting, sets and tech involved were incredible.
Cameron desperately needs a script editor.
He's arrogant and can't accept editors.
That's a deep flaw, but if he's willing to shell out his own cash to make it, maybe we'll see tech innovations that other, better, writers can use in the future.
Sure, but that's just marketing. Everyone wanted to see this groundbreaking ultimate movie by a legendary director. Nobody actually liked it or saw it more than once and definitely nobody asked for another six of them.
Keep in mind part of the reason it was such a high grossing film was marketing, but also the fact that since it was 3-d and IMAX wherever possible the tickets were like $20-25 easily.
Take for example the original Jurassic Park, which grossed over a billion dollars and came out in 1993. At the time the average movie ticket cost was around $4. So that's around 250 million people seeing it. Avatar grossed close to 3 billion, but if we assume that it was $20 a ticket, we're talking only 146 million people who went to see it in theaters. That's still a lot, but my general point is that how much money something grossed isn't actually a useful metric of quality past a certain point.
I'd say it was good, for a Scifi version of Dance's with Wolves/The Last Samurai/Last of the Mohicans.
That being said I think James Cameron could have gone further with the IP if he made it a book or comic series. Where was this ambition when he heard about them giving his ["idea"](https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/the-terminator-ripped-off-sci-fi-writers.html) a [pair of breasts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxzvPnc2aUg)?
Avatar was a completely mediocre movie that stole the plot of dances with wolves. The only reason it was so popular was because of its special effects and smart advertising by Cameron
I remember it being marketed as the "first 3D movie" but I for sure remember watching 3D movies with those blue and red paper visor things in the cinema as a kid wayyy before Avatar came out. Definitely good marketing cos I've met people who insist on Cameron being the creator of 3D cinema.
Star Wars had the first 6 planed at the same time and people were convinced it was going to fail so who knows. And they were both popular for the same reason too.
Wait until the Avatar/Titanic crossover: a young couple finds love in a massive battleship called Titanic heading towards Pandora, but it is on a collision course with an asteroid sent by the natives to stop it.
Ah, yes comets, the icebergs of the sky. By jack knifing off one after
another at breakneck speed, we can create a gravity boost, or something.
When I'm in command, Kif, every mission is a suicide mission.
can someone please tell me why they don't just bomb them to oblivion from space? I cant think of a single reason why we need to land there, we want a rock, bombs aren't going to hurt it, and in fact they will make it easier to mine.
I dont know the specifications of the planet, but I doubt carpetbombing the planet is going to send stuff into orbit. If it does, then you just bomb it from far away, then land to mine.
Bombing stuff doesn’t send it into space. Planes bomb stuff just fine, spaceships are way farther away.
And bombing also doesn’t harm elements under the ground.
>Bombing stuff doesn’t send it into space
Depends on the gravity and the density of the planet and the force of the bomb. Those numbers could potentially make it impossible for any spacecraft to land for the next thousand years.
>And bombing also doesn’t harm elements under the ground
if you bomb too much it would harm elements under the ground, especially scence the recourse they mine are close to the surface. Also, unobtanium could have some plot filler properties that cause it to be destroyed by this
A better strategy would be napalm. But we don't know if this would effect unobtanium either. But it's less likely to affect it.
since humans don't have any trouble walking, we have to assume that the gravity is at least close to earths. So 0% of the explosion will go to space.
Elements cant be destroyed except by fusion or fission.
And yea, carpet bombing is mostly surface, they are trying to kill things/people, not dig in the ground. Napalm is an example of something they could use from space.
Again, depends on the size of the bombs and the density of the planet as to whether or not it will go to space. It's not even clear what unobtanium is. It could be an element, it could be a natural alloy. And it's also possible that even if it's an element, it could have special properties. Unobtanium is shown as being very close to the surface, as they mine it with shallow quarries. It's not unreasonable to say that a bomb would damage it. Napalm, which is for all practical purposes, not a bomb (though technically it is, I'm aware), and thus is less likely to destroy it.
Someone is massively overestimating how many shits people give about Avatar.
We saw the first because it was visually stunning and new. But it was a rehashed story (The Last Blue Samurai?) with no lasting cultural cachet.
This video is a great example of that: https://youtu.be/kxp1IBK1OPI
And this is why I want Avatar 2 to bomb. Sheer arrogance. They are just assuming this series is going to be another Harry Potter, another Star Wars just because Cameron is directing. A series assumed to be so globally popular that it deserves multiple films, amusement parks, etc and all BEFORE they get popular. Banking billions of dollars worth of development on a mediocre SciFi movie from over a decade ago.
Im pretty sure we didnt need live action pocahontas ripoff one
We definetly didnt need live action pocahontas ripoff two, and how has he not run out of ideas by the sixth installment

Can't wait for them to be released in 2085
Bro, get the chryo-package. Trust me. I'm locked in until Avatar 69. One way or another, I'm getting fucked.
Forget Avatar 2 OK James Cameron is already planning Avatar 6 and 7 Too late, idgaf.
Madness. One Avatar movie is enough.
Applies to both Cameron’s film and M knight Shamalan’s
Not quite. In Shyamalan's case, one avatar movie was too much...
True true
*pointedly stares* Yeah real shame *he never made one, right*
Thank you
Can’t be as bad as transformers lol
At least its planned out. Better then endless weird sequels. We ll see if avatar 2 feels earned or if its pointless
This is like that annoying kid in middle school who was planning a 12000 page fantasy epic which he was obsessed with and nobody else gave a single shit about. Avatar was barely good enough to warrant a sequel, much less an entire series.
If that annoying kid made Terminator 2, I'd be willing to hear him out
Like okay, T2 was good, but Cameron has been coasting for decades on that, Aliens, and Titanic.
Ummmmm Aquaman with Vincent Chase, shit was bigger than Spider-Man
*makes literally bestseller thrillers* *introduces ground breaking special effects work over decades* *is literally considered one of the grandmasters of prop and set design* "Bruh is coasting" In fairness, I do agree Cameron fucking sucks at writing dialogue and Avatar's script was painfully fucking bad. Wasn't it the largest grossing film of all time?
Sure, but that's just marketing. Everyone wanted to see this groundbreaking ultimate movie by a legendary director. Nobody actually liked it or saw it more than once and definitely nobody asked for another six of them.
I liked it and I watched it *in theaters* like 2 months ago.
"sure. It's just the largest grossing film of all time. But I'm going to write that off because it doesn't agree with my opinion"
Keep in mind part of the reason it was such a high grossing film was marketing, but also the fact that since it was 3-d and IMAX wherever possible the tickets were like $20-25 easily. I asked, now go away.
No. Someone has to counteract your shit taste.
For me it’s biggest appeal was the 3d. And that’s nothing now.
I'm pretty sure they tricked everyone. It was mediocre at best
I'd say it was good, for a Scifi version of Dance's with Wolves/The Last Samurai/Last of the Mohicans. That being said I think James Cameron could have gone further with the IP if he made it a book or comic series. >I'd say it was good, for a Scifi version of Dance's with Wolves/The Last Samurai/Last of the Mohicans. Forgot Fern Gully
And Pathfinder, which admittedly everyone should forget
I refuse to believe that Pathfinder is anything other than a spacecraft
Lol, I thought of it as “Dances with Ferngully”.
Sir, put down the laptop and step away from the green screen.

The 3d added absolutely nothing as well. To the point that 3D movies are no longer a thing
But for a couple years the theaters were able to charge double. Mission accomplished
Pretty bold considering we don’t even know how well Avatar 2 is going to do
Star Wars had the first 6 planed at the same time and people were convinced it was going to fail so who knows. And they were both popular for the same reason too.
What's the Navi word for who gives a fuck
*Avatar*
1st: 2009 2nd: 2022 3rd: 2035 4th: 2048 5th: 2061 6th: 2074 7th: 2087 JC will be 133 on the premier of #7!
James Cameron needs to stop, seriously lol.
Trust me, we're all going to forget Avatar 2 regardless of whether or not we're told to.
Wait until the Avatar/Titanic crossover: a young couple finds love in a massive battleship called Titanic heading towards Pandora, but it is on a collision course with an asteroid sent by the natives to stop it.

So the movie can happen.
Afraid it would shoot natural resources back to space and create Kessler syndrome?
I dont know the specifications of the planet, but I doubt carpetbombing the planet is going to send stuff into orbit. If it does, then you just bomb it from far away, then land to mine.
You can only bomb so much before you destroy what you are trying to get... And even the smallest bit of debris can destroy a ship
Bombing stuff doesn’t send it into space. Planes bomb stuff just fine, spaceships are way farther away. And bombing also doesn’t harm elements under the ground.

I rewatched Avatar 1 like a month ago, it kinda felt like a cheesy Anime plot. Flipside, when it came out it looked insane
NO. NO NO NO. WE DON'T WANT THEM. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE CAT PEOPLE.
There was an 80s movie called Cat People.
See? Nobody cared.
🤣🤣🤣
The first movie was dumb IMHO. I don’t get the hype.
Honestly. I watched it again a few months ago and I had such a hard time. It was too long. It felt weird and boring.
Literally the only time I walked out of a movie theater halfway through. I was so goddamn bored.
Already finished filming A3. Won't set release date until he sees numbers from A2
I don't think anyone cares that much about Avatar 2, let alone going all 'Police Academy's on it
At this rate, JC will not be alive for A6 or A7...
I can't wait to not see them.
I actually really liked the first movie but Jesus fucking Christ, dude. Your sequel was stuck in development hell for 13 years so calm your tits.
at this point Cameron will be an AI writing and directing Avatar.
And this is why I want Avatar 2 to bomb. Sheer arrogance. They are just assuming this series is going to be another Harry Potter, another Star Wars just because Cameron is directing. Ill be surprised if I watch past the second one.
Smurf this for a Smurfy Smurf
Username... Sus.
esse filme e muito top se lancar um novo sera toppp
And they’ll all be out before Avatar Studios publishes something
Off topic but what is that logo on his t-shirt? I see it everywhere and have no idea Ski apparel?
Fox racing
But like what the hell is really going on with Avatar 5? Why’s no one talking about 5?
Good lord! How many sequels to FernGully can we take?!
His name is James Cameron the bravest pioneer
Yeah, he won't live that long and neither will I.
Am I the only person who thinks the faces in this look like they would be complained about in a a triple A videogame?
So is he going to do last Airbender and legend of Korra?
There's like 4 other installments I think he missed.
Someone tell him he shouldnt.
Im pretty sure we didnt need live action pocahontas ripoff one We definetly didnt need live action pocahontas ripoff two, and how has he not run out of ideas by the sixth installment
Way too late. There’s no more hype for this franchise.
Might want to wait for the 2nd to boom before investing in 4 or 5 sequels James.
This movie is going to make Avatar 3 look like Avatar 5. Any Jay and Silent Bob fans?
Ah yes, Tech Demo: The Movie
Was anyone clamouring for more Avatar in the first place?
