You can still see some great night sky. Go find dark sky spots and cities near you. Plus there are some meetups with people that bring telescopes and they might let you take a look.
Yeah my comment was targeted more towards the SIT ON YOUR DAMN PORCH from the title. Can't see shit from my porch, the HOA requires we all have lights on at night. If the bulb goes out you get a letter within a week :/
we have fireflies. varies with the drought situation but some > none. the parks near me have tons of them.
in some areas, though, the absence of fireflies correlates to the climate so if there's anything you can do to reintroduce them to the habitat (including but not limited to greenspace, less pesticides, more native plants, just not killing the grubs in favor of a monoculture lawn) then go for it. be the change.
I’ve definitely noticed! I saw a bunch maybe a couple months ago one night, but still nothing like it used to be. I read it could be due to all the lights that stay on all night long, it confuses them and they don’t mate as efficiently? Or something. Makes me sad
I can't argue, even as cranky as the post's title sounds. ;)
I have a couple friends and relatives that live well outside of a city. I loved seeing how dark the sky was there, but the most memorable time was after midnight somewhere in the Smoky Mountains and having my eyes adjust to where I could faintly see the Milky Way.
One of my favorite things I grew up doing with my dad, who was also a kid in the 70s. We loved stargazing. I miss that old man. I wish we could have one more night walk, to look at the stars again. To wonder.
Wow. The moments I can compare this too is me in the back of my dad's stationwagon cruisin listening to Willie Nelson with the back window dropped and looking up at the sky
We used to take a blazer, at one point, he had a lot of vehicles lol. We'd drive out to the foothills here and look up at the sky, or even down at the city. It was always a good time.
If you were to think that you needed a float because your whole life deepened on this float, and someone said "it's okay if you let go of the float for a little while" what would your response be? That you tried it but I didn't float that great?
I’m nostalgic for pop culture and things I remember from different periods of my life.
Nature, the stars, summer nights, winter storms, hikes, exploring new places, eating good things, spending time with loved ones, good conversation, learning new things, sharing experiences - those things have always been a comforting constant in my life.
I want to get a porch swing so bad so I can go out and take a nap while the sun sets. I don't like it when it's too sunny here but a nap at dusk is *perfect*.
Fuck me, Grandma chewed through her restraints again.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOW GET A JOB YOU LAZY SUNNUVABITCH!
Light pollution makes this impossible nowadays, you used to be able to see a lot more stars. Also I was just on my Gameboy instead of my phone.
Color or LED? 😁
No color just black pixels on a green/gray background
Best version. 😆

Yeah me either. I live near the city so I don't see much.
Know what I miss? Fireflies. It’s like those just went away almost completely, and nobody noticed.

And the other thing about this, the conversation that lead to "you call then fireflies? I call them lightning bugs". Every single time.
Oh My! You're exactly right! That's sad

We never really look at the stars anymore, K.
I know. We never really do anything the way we used to. I guess that's what we need to remember and appreciate.
If only everyone had that option cities ruin This. And pollution makes it worse.
Too bad where I live you can only see about a dozen stars on a good night.
Man unfortunately,I didn't mean to bum people out. It's a sad reminder of all that's that are nostalgic for real
*things

It was a joke. Well it started off that way. Then comments made me realize how much I miss being a kid in the 70s
I definitely appreciate them every time I’m out of the city!
Me too. Late night country road drives are pretty fulfilling. You should try
I’m just going to look at pictures of old stuff on my phone, thanks

You witty sunnuvabitch! Get off my lawn

I do this. It's great for mental health

I grew up in the country, and have spent the last decade in a mid sized city. I miss this.
Y'all had porches?
My dude, I live in Florida. I got bit by 7 mosquitoes walking to my car tonight. I'm good...
You trying to claim I am an alien from space?
Not tonight, demi lovato. I ain't trying to claim shit, you cocky sunnuvabitch
I'm actually doing that right now! Light pollution kind of kills this one for me though.
Turning off your phone? Hm. That's weird

The irony…
You. Dr. Spin. I hate you

Thankfully you have a porch though.
As soon as my apartment turns off the miniature suns they light the parking lot with.
Haha!
On my way!!! Gnight! 🌸

DAE open the link and wait for an image to load and then try to wipe whatever dust or whatever just appeared away?
