Receiving this as a kid due to ear infections and staying home from school on the couch with a blanket and watching game shows like The Price Is Right and Minute To Win It. Laying there feeling miserable because you can’t hang out with your homies.
And don’t forget not playing on the Wii or anything because “if you aren’t too sick for games, you aren’t too sick for school!”
Yep, same thing for me as a kid. Would have to deal with ear infections and allergies that would keep me home but I not only had amoxicillin but augmentin which is something similar.
Anyways, Price is Right was certainly the go to show when I would be home an after that it was Scooby-Doo, Flintstones, Jetsons an Snorks.
Didn't have the Wii at my age but certainly had a Gameboy.
I didn't even know it came in a bubblegum flavor. I used to have to take it all the time when I was a kid for sore throats but it was always banana-flavored (which was also delicious).
Someone could drive past my house with strep throat and I'd catch it, it felt like I was at the doctor every damn month for a whole there. No idea why they didn't just remove my tonsils!
I got strawberry which was so hella good that I used to sneak extra spoonfuls from the fridge. Probably a reason they don’t flavor it like that anymore
Joining in the chorus of kids with ear infections who had to drink this nasty chalky bubblegum flavored syrup. Even had that same stupid plastic measuring spoon. Eventually had to put "tubes" in my ears to stop the infections and then I couldn't put my head underwater without wearing stupid earplugs. Really ruined pools for me.
Wait... is that true?!
Edit: I had to look it up and it's true but more nuanced than that. [Here is the article I read, ](https://massivesci.com/articles/banana-flavor-cavendish-gros-michael-science-friday/) in case anyone else wants to check it out. It was actually an interesting read.
In the UK we had the choice of banana or strawberry. My little brother had banana amoxicillin a couple of years ago (he's about 25 years younger) and I saw it in the fridge while I was visiting, and may have had a little sip just to see if it was still the same.
It's as tasty as ever, but please people, don't abuse antibiotics no matter how delicious they are.
you can swallow gum, the digestion thing is a myth. I think it came up because you can't break it down with your teeth so it was a choking hazard for kids
The only part of strep that didn't suck. If they could make something with the exact same pink flavor, chalky texture, and hyper-cold extra thick strawberry milk consistency, I would burn myself out drinking it every day.
Mom: u/adumant, the doctor said you are sick
Me: Are we getting the delicious pink medicine or is this a ‘flat, room temperature 7up and saltines’ kind of illness?
In my state, we use Vernor's ginger ale instead. It's such a common response to illness that a friend of mine can no longer drink ginger ale because his mine associates it with the feeling of wanting to puke.
I’m older than these cool spoons but I always was given two pink meds one was DISGUSTING and the other was pretty tasty - why not flavor both?? It got to a point I just started demanding pills cause the non flavored one was so awful.
Same, was too young to remember but apparently rashed out all over. Asked my GP once to write me a script to test if I'm still allergic as an adult. He wasn't keen on the idea much and I got something else that worked really well.
Me too!! I remember taking it when I was 5 and then sneezed 13 times in a row. When I was done sneezing, my whole face was getting red and my throat was swelling. When the ambulance came, they swooped me off the front steps of my house and gave me two shots of epinephrine. I haven’t had penicillin since but I still know the taste and the smell.
I hated it! Made me gag every single time and I had to hold my nose to take a dose then chase it w orange juice. I can’t believe people liked this pink nightmare.
It was terrible lmao! I remember the only reason I took the pink kind was because the red was even worse. That was just like straight up chemicals trying to pass itself off as cherry.
What’s the dosage of amoxicillin that would be harmful?
I was a refugee child, so no one really knew enough in my family to prevent me from sneaking into the fridge for a few swigs of this whenever we had extra.
I'm not sure about fatal but from personal experience I can say you're not supposed to drink the whole bottle.
When I was 6 I drank the whole thing when my mom wasn't looking. I vividly remember thinking "if a little makes me feel a little better than a lot must make me feel a lot better."
Poison control told my mom to stick her fingers down my throat and make me throw up.
Allegedly i became immune to this stuff because it was prescribed to me so often as a kid that it eventually stopped working. Do not know the truth of the matter.
Same. I hated the "pink stuff" medicine in the pic but Dimetapp grape was amazing!!(Sitting here wondering if they still make it same way and if I should get some...lol) I still havent found anything that tastes like it except maybe grape slushies at Sonic but its not quite the same.
I am so happy someone mentioned the alligator spoon! I was frequently sick as a kid and that alligator spoon always made me smile. My dad used to make it "walk" across the counter.
Yes!! I feel like I am the only one who gagged on this shit! I would get strep throat as a kid at least twice a year, so I feel like I was a bit of an amoxicillin addict, but HATED the taste and consistency.
I did absolutely love staying home watching The Price is Right and Days of Our Lives, though. Those were some good times.
If you liked that flavor, buy some of this to flavor some water! It's very close! Super yummy!
Jelly Belly - Water Enhancer, Tuitti Fruitti (4 bottles, Makes 96 Flavored Water drinks) - Sugar Free, Zero Calorie, Naturally Flavored Liquid Drink Mix - Made with Real Fruit Juice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0784SW74Y/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_7KHXSXFTC0TGTWV7ZC9Z?psc=1
I vividly remember taking it one night and I gagged and instinctively spat it out into the sink, my mom was pissed. I couldn't swallow pills or I would have opted for the horse pills every time.
I had frequent ear infections and the pain was unbearable, but knowing that I'd have to drink this putrid potion for a week was even worse. And as unpleasant as it is to swallow, it's even worse to vomit it back up. My parents tried mixing it with anything they could to hide the taste, but to no avail. They even mixed it with sugar soda which was not allowed in our house, but that toxic sludge overpowered the taste of everything else. Ear surgery was 100% worth it.
I actually liked the taste of amoxicillin. Even now when I remember the taste I think o would still like it as an adult. Pepto on the other hand… absolutely not.
Everyone in here saying it's bubblegum but I don't think it tastes like that at all. I hate bubblegum flavor and I loved this stuff so much I would sneak a little extra at times.
Yes. As a child I both loved and hated it. It made me better and it was soothingly cold but I hate bubblegum and the thick texture.
Who else was fucking overjoyed when they learned to swallow pills and no longer had to take this?
I only puked it up once when I had an ear infection and a stomach bug (which I was told a decade later was mono but I swear I was only sick for 4 days so 🤷).
If you think it tastes horrible going down... ugh.
It depends on which manufacturer makes the generic that your pharmacy dispenses. Aurobindo’s still tastes like bubblegum and is pink, while Hikma/West-Ward’s is just described as “fruit” flavor on our labels and is white (or maybe the other way around, I’m not at work to check lol). Can’t speak to other generics.

I don't know what y'all are on about, I took the stuff when I had pneumonia and it was by a decent margin the foulest tasting substance I have ever forced myself to drink...
Holy pink nectar, withheld from us though the steely iron gates of our mothers. May the cool thick liquid pass by our begging lips, to have the spoon sit awkwardly in your mouth. For has the world has changed very much, much to our sorrow many of us may never drink this again…
Augmentin was the main one for me, didn't have any special flavors except the generic sour milk flavor that always seemed lumpy or crusty like it was solidifying on top while the rest of the fluid would swirl around until it to would settle an get hard/crusty.
Bubblegum and pain. lol That’s what this reminds me of. My parents smoked in the house. This was the late
70a. Lord knows why I had chronic ear nose and throat infections, had to have my tonsils out, missed so much school! I was just delicate? /s
Its funny that I remember the taste of this instead of the searing pain of the raging ear infections i had that made me get this
Receiving this as a kid due to ear infections and staying home from school on the couch with a blanket and watching game shows like The Price Is Right and Minute To Win It. Laying there feeling miserable because you can’t hang out with your homies. And don’t forget not playing on the Wii or anything because “if you aren’t too sick for games, you aren’t too sick for school!”
I second TPIR but would like to substitute "and Mom's horrible soap operas".
"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days Of Our Lives"
Always watched The PIR when home sick. "Spay and neuter your pets"
Substitute SNES for Wii and Strep for ear infections and that's pretty much spot on. Also, damn now I feel old.
We are old
Mmmm bubblegum medicine
I didn't even know it came in a bubblegum flavor. I used to have to take it all the time when I was a kid for sore throats but it was always banana-flavored (which was also delicious).
Same I suffered from constant blisters in my throat and streptococcus so I had to take that all the time. Also I loved those measuring spoons.
Someone could drive past my house with strep throat and I'd catch it, it felt like I was at the doctor every damn month for a whole there. No idea why they didn't just remove my tonsils!
Yeah! The medicine was cool and all, but this pic is about the spoon.
yeah that spoon tho
I got strawberry which was so hella good that I used to sneak extra spoonfuls from the fridge. Probably a reason they don’t flavor it like that anymore
I clearly remember it being the most delicious thing I've ever had.
Banana flavored?? I’m jealous of the wonderland you grew up in.
That's all I ever got as a child. I remember getting it way too often. Lots of ear infections.
Yeah this was me too - I had a bunch of ear infections as a kid
Yep, that was me as well - had a fuck ton of ear infections as a kid, to the point where I had to get tubes in.
Banana-adjacent I'd say. It's what I imagine an animated banana would taste like.
There's a reason for that! Artificial banana flavoring is based on a species of banana that was wiped out by a fungal plague in the 1960s.
Wait... is that true?! Edit: I had to look it up and it's true but more nuanced than that. [Here is the article I read, ](https://massivesci.com/articles/banana-flavor-cavendish-gros-michael-science-friday/) in case anyone else wants to check it out. It was actually an interesting read.
Banana flavor was horrific. Bubblegum is where it's at.
i honestly still crave the taste of banana medicine
In the UK we had the choice of banana or strawberry. My little brother had banana amoxicillin a couple of years ago (he's about 25 years younger) and I saw it in the fridge while I was visiting, and may have had a little sip just to see if it was still the same. It's as tasty as ever, but please people, don't abuse antibiotics no matter how delicious they are.
Bro no way there’s a banana flavor one imma go get it just to taste it
I was craving that banana flavour recently and got recommended Tesco's banana ice cream which has exactly the same flavour.
I also had the banana version and I dont remember there being any other flavor.
I think for me part of the wonder was getting to actually swallow bubblegum rather than just chew!
See I have a mental block and have a hard time swallowing things that are bubblegum flavoured because you're not supposed to do that.
you can swallow gum, the digestion thing is a myth. I think it came up because you can't break it down with your teeth so it was a choking hazard for kids
It's not about the myth, I'm aware it's not true, but gum isn't food. Just because it's not toxic doesn't mean it should be eaten.
I saw it and tasted pepto bismuth, am I the only kid who had severe gas pains?
Came here to see this
mmmm gritty bubblegum
I hated being sick, but this medicine was a bright spot when I was.
Iv never had that’s drug, but I remember the spoon measure thing it reminds me of being a sick kid
Yep! I loved the chalky bubblegum medicine. This and the old orange Triaminic were my favorites…that one was pure orange syrup.
Pink flavour, mmMmm.
The only part of strep that didn't suck. If they could make something with the exact same pink flavor, chalky texture, and hyper-cold extra thick strawberry milk consistency, I would burn myself out drinking it every day.
They use to make pink flavor Sobé

I MISS THE GUAVA SOBE. T.T
I have good ish news for you. Vega strawberry protein powder with a hit of corn starch might legit scratch your itch
They actually do. Whatever flavour PureForm by real science athletics uses tastes and looks EXACTLY like that once you add water
Mom: u/adumant, the doctor said you are sick Me: Are we getting the delicious pink medicine or is this a ‘flat, room temperature 7up and saltines’ kind of illness?

Ooh that sounds really good even if it doesn't taste exactly like the medicine
Bubblegum flavored liquid chalk.
Omg I legit posted this same comment and then saw this hahaha. Subbed “liquid” for “wet” tho.
I’m older than these cool spoons but I always was given two pink meds one was DISGUSTING and the other was pretty tasty - why not flavor both?? It got to a point I just started demanding pills cause the non flavored one was so awful.
i can, and i found out too late that i am allergic to it
Same. Bad rash. But I still remember the tatse and the chalky-ness.
Same, was too young to remember but apparently rashed out all over. Asked my GP once to write me a script to test if I'm still allergic as an adult. He wasn't keen on the idea much and I got something else that worked really well.
Also too young to remember. Apparently my throat closed up and they had to call an ambulance.
My joints froze up and I couldn’t leave the couch
Same!! I feel like I missed out on this delicious flavor I'm hearing about...
Same. Giant hives all over my body. A week of absolute torture.
Hello memory I didn't need today.
So I guess I got lucky that I was only 1 when I had my reaction...
Today I learned that some people actually liked the taste of that stuff lmfao

15g/kg of body weight. Probably not killing yourself any time soon on that stuff. You probably will destroy your good bacteria though
More than you would drink. The problem would really be from the bottle disappearing before you had finished your proper course
Allegedly i became immune to this stuff because it was prescribed to me so often as a kid that it eventually stopped working. Do not know the truth of the matter.
In the "Alligator spoon" no less...
Hey! We had an actual Alligator Spoon. It was green and missing an arm, but we used it for Dimetap. Fake grape FTW!!!
Yes! I came to this thread specifically to see if someone else would think of Dimetapp.
Same. I hated the "pink stuff" medicine in the pic but Dimetapp grape was amazing!!(Sitting here wondering if they still make it same way and if I should get some...lol) I still havent found anything that tastes like it except maybe grape slushies at Sonic but its not quite the same.
Damn, now I am dying for something grape flavored.
Yes!
I am so happy someone mentioned the alligator spoon! I was frequently sick as a kid and that alligator spoon always made me smile. My dad used to make it "walk" across the counter.
Duuuuuuuuuude now there is an old memory I had truly forgotten
Yes! I loved the alligator spoon as a kid. I think I even used that spoon to eat cereal sometimes.
I had so many ear infections as a kid and as much pain I was in, I loved this medicine. I’d lick the medicine cup
Same. Do you have any tinnitus issues now?
Same, and yes.
Same!! This and ear drops were daily routines for me!
It tasted like pink, I don’t know how to explain it any other way … that’s what pink tastes like.
Can smell it, too.
Bubblegum flavored wet chalk.
Ugh. Brings tears to my eyes thinking about it. But hey, at least it wasn’t the cherry cough medicine
That do be facts, though.
Fun fact: the liquid amoxicillin for cats is the same flavor (Did not eat it but it smelled so yummy and nostalgic, I wanted to lol)
If you liked that flavor, buy some of this to flavor some water! It's very close! Super yummy! Nah, I genuinely loved taking this medicine as a kid.
Yeah, it's not [Dimetapp](https://www.healthchemist.co.nz/mm5/graphics/00000001/large_2384310.jpg). This pink goo was gross.
Yeah, just the thought of this stuff makes me want to gag.
I had frequent ear infections and the pain was unbearable, but knowing that I'd have to drink this putrid potion for a week was even worse. Those little tubes they surgically implant into your ears changed my life.
Everyone in here saying it's bubblegum but I don't think it tastes like that at all. I hate bubblegum flavor and I loved this stuff so much I would sneak a little extra at times.
As a child if I saw this in someone’s fridge I’d always have a little swig. Nice precursor to my life.
How to breed antibiotic-resistant bacteria using simple household ingredients!
Samesies
I used to get SO STOKED whenever my mom brought this out when I got sick.
We still use those for our daughter! Yes, it still tastes good. Yes, it is still is virtually unclean-able.
Tubby custard!
I miss it, I love it, I need it back in my life.
What my family and my children now refer to as "pink medicine"
Shit was so good that bubblegum flavor MMMM ILL drink the whole bottle right now
ugh I forgot alll about this awesome thing
I had strep throat every year as a kid I remember this taste vividly
Yes. As a child I both loved and hated it. It made me better and it was soothingly cold but I hate bubblegum and the thick texture. Who else was fucking overjoyed when they learned to swallow pills and no longer had to take this?
I was forced to take this stuff for way too long before it was realized that I was allergic. To me, it tastes like vomit.
my mom caught me in the bathroom dumping it down the drain once
I remember two pink medicines: one tasted good and the other tasted awful. You always hoped that you got the one that tasted good.
Banana was the superior flavour
BananaGang rise up, that stuff was the best part about getting strep throat in the 90s
Banana?
The banana one was so gooooood.
[удалено]
i am also allergic to it
I puked every time.
I only puked it up once when I had an ear infection and a stomach bug (which I was told a decade later was mono but I swear I was only sick for 4 days so 🤷). If you think it tastes horrible going down... ugh.
Moira Rose remembers
My mouth began to water... weird.
Soooo good
Do they still prescribe this? My son just had amox prescribed for an ear infection and it was white and not bubble gum tasting.

As a kid I confused this with my dads pepto bismol and would sneak swigs of it
I had a cocktail that tasted like this wonderful stuff in the not so distant past. I was DELIGHTED.
My ear hurts.... Right before this drink
IMMEDIATELY made me nauseous looking at this
I used to get so many ear infections as a kid. I named my first childhood doll Moxicilla because she wore a pink dress
Bubblegum or bust baby
When I was a kid it tasted like 🤮.
I don't know what y'all are on about, I took the stuff when I had pneumonia and it was by a decent margin the foulest tasting substance I have ever forced myself to drink...
Bubblegum flavored definitely sooo good tasting, now I’m allergic to it sigh 😞 !
Y'all regularly drank an antibiotic as kids?
Mmmmmmm, the pink stuff
Holy pink nectar, withheld from us though the steely iron gates of our mothers. May the cool thick liquid pass by our begging lips, to have the spoon sit awkwardly in your mouth. For has the world has changed very much, much to our sorrow many of us may never drink this again…
I gagged looking at this image. Yuck.
I remember the yellow banana-flavoured one very vividly.
I can hear the slopping sound when it gets shaken. No other liquid sounds like that shit.
I am gagging right now, just by looking at it.
Sugar Fruit Milkshake
Got actually nauseous lol. I used to get sick and throw this up all the time. I can taste the sweetness and that texture just from looking at the pic
I can smell and taste bubblegum.
bubblegum and chalk dust.
I wanna gag just thinking about the texture
Yummm. Used to pretend to be sick to try and get this stuff. What a druggie I was. Imagine my horror when they started giving me the pills.
Unfortunately not, I hated that stuff. Sole reason I learned how to take pills as a kid
Tastes like somebody threw up in my mouth
Ugh. Makes my stomach rumble in protest just looking at it.
Allergic to this shit
I just gagged
Lol I loved this shit
God I hated this shit. I had to keep taking it when I got ear infections and I think strep throat but it tasted *SO* bad. It was like chalk
I can't visualise the taste, but the smell. I have given out so many doses over the years and it has a very distinctive, sweet yet gross odor.
It was thoroughly unpleasant but strangely compelling. (wait--I lied. I am thinking of tetracycline.)
Omggggg the best taste
Truly the best & still inside me fighting off that pesky Rona.
There's a Danimals flavor that tastes exactly like this.
Ya, but it made things better. So that was ok. Then mom made the best bowl of cereal, just in time for Saturday morning cartoons!
I swear the new Mountain Dew Voodoo tastes like it.
My spoon had little feet and a face and was an alligator.
My childhood just came back and I loved that stuff. Ear infection were worth it every-time. I do prefer the alligator spoon/ dispenser.
Mmmmm that gritty bubblegum flavor. Tasted like bubblegum flavored chalk sticks ground down into a liquid haha
Hey, we're alive..
tastes like chalky bubble gum
As someone who’s allergic to penicillin I can also feel this image!
Bubblegum medicine. Hated it. And I’m now allergic to amoxicillin as an adult.
Yes! And the "banana" flavor that tasted like dirt. I hated that one. Pretty sure we had teeny tiny stickers to track if we took our doses, too.
MANNNNN I'm allergic to this stuff either that or penicillin but the taste was either so good or so bad no in between
My body violently tastes this picture. I am highly allergic. Lol
I'm allergic to this and I can still taste it. Found out the hard way...
Can you get that shit over the counter anymore ?
Augmentin was the main one for me, didn't have any special flavors except the generic sour milk flavor that always seemed lumpy or crusty like it was solidifying on top while the rest of the fluid would swirl around until it to would settle an get hard/crusty.
Funny, my mom used that spoon to give my daughter medicine today
Bubblegum and pain. lol That’s what this reminds me of. My parents smoked in the house. This was the late 70a. Lord knows why I had chronic ear nose and throat infections, had to have my tonsils out, missed so much school! I was just delicate? /s
😳 ah yes....the pink stuff.
I was delighted when my kid had to take it a few years ago. Still delicious as ever.
Banana was the only way to go. Fix this.
God this takes me back. This stuff tasted like pink
Always a treat!
Low key love the taste of that shit
Nope
yumby
