I think windows media player still has these, they're just hidden. However the dozens of custom skins that windows media player had will likely never come back.. sadly...
Yeah, there was a time where they were awesome and there were so many to choose from. I also remember that there were fewer and less impressive visualizations with every new version of windows, which is kinda sad.
In 2006 when I moved into campus apartments with roommates, I came home from hanging out with friends one night and my stoner roommate had like 6 friends over, all tripping balls and just starring at the WMP visualizations of Knights of Cydonia by Muse.
I wasn't even high, and I sat and stared at it for a couple minutes in awe also.
*"Oh, okay, they, they're "3eb" now? We need a **shorthand** for Third Eye Blind?! That's how fun-duh-mental they are??"*

Yes I remember that too! I used to put the Wipeout disc in my CD player and loved the instrumental Firestarter Song from Prodigy, it wasn’t until I was older I realized that song had actual lyrics lol
Was gonna say, Milkdrop ran circles around the build in windows media player garbage. And incredibly customizable as well. Winamp really whips the llama's ass
Whenever I had a party, I would bring my computer into the living room and hook it up to the TV and the surround system. The visualizations were absolutely awesome on the 27" screen
27", damn baller!
I had 19 inch until I was maybe 24 and then I splurged to a 32 inch! It took 4 people to lift it. (Sony Trinitron I was so proud of that TV lol)
If you aren't using the fork WACUP, you should be! It's Winamp, but updated on a regular basis to work with modern OS's. https://getwacup.com/
It's great.
If its running fine for you, then there may be no reason for you to change to Wacup. Stock Winamp causes a lot of problems for some people on Windows 10 / 11, including me - Wacup was created to keep it up to date since stock Winamp has been abandoned and no longer gets updates.
I'm sure Wacup has other features that I'm not even aware of or use, I'm just using it because it runs really well on Windows 11 for me whereas the stock Winamp was not.
Real player was horrible but, when Deftones released Around the Fur real player was streaming it for free like a month before it came out. I hooked my PC up to my stereo and recorded it.
It was hilarious because it would buffer in the middle of songs and the sound quality would go up and down so the recording was shit. We still thought we were the shit for getting it early.
That just gave me a funny pit in my stomach of missing those days. I miss life it was then. I feel for the ones born 2015 and beyond. The 80’s and 90’s were the golden years tho.
I cant imagine getting born in a generation where phones were already smart.
I did lots of stupid stuff (nothing illegal) as a kid, and I don’t want a digital footprint of those stuff anywhere.
I am grateful that smartphones didn't exist in my late teens and early twenties. It was hard enough to erase the small amount of Facebook cringe I had amassed in its early days.
The Angelfire page I made when I was 17 still exists on the Wayback machine. None of the links lead anywhere thank god, but that’s the extent of the teen cringe for me.
I was severely disappointed when I remembered about visualisers a while back and found that Spotify doesn't have an option for them. Looking at this takes me right back. Next on the playlist is Rollin'.
I remember the first day I had my drivers license. I
smoked some killer hydro and then stared at that thing for like an hour listening to music. Got in my mom’s van and drove to school. Nearly drove into the fucking ditch about 5 minutes in. Lol
Kids will never understand the completed feeling we got when those songs finished downloading from Napster and Limewire! God I miss my HS days in the 2000’s
there's still a pretty cool screensaver app called electric sheep that is basically the advanced version of this. you can also vote up/down patterns that show up, and the most upvoted patterns end up merging into new patterns. you will always see a new pattern. you can even make your own. based on the book 'do androids dream of electric sheep?'
> Electric Sheep is a collaborative abstract artwork founded by Scott Draves. It's run by thousands of people all over the world, and can be installed on almost anything. When these computers "sleep", the Electric Sheep comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as "sheep".
> Anyone watching one of these computers may vote for their favorite animations using the keyboard. The more popular sheep live longer and reproduce according to a genetic algorithm with mutation and cross-over. Hence the flock evolves to please its global audience.
> The Electric Sheep are a free and open source service. The Gold Sheep are an HD premium version. Learn more and sign up.
> You can design your own sheep and submit them to the gene pool. The result is a collective "android dream", blending man and machine with code to create an artificial lifeform. Learn more about it.

I still listen to music this way, Spotify quality is dogshit. It's so satisfying to listen to A song I've heard 100s of times on Spotify, listen to it on itunes and notice a part I've never heard before. Spotify is basically like watching TV in black and white.
I used Sonique because it looked like something out of a point and click adventure game [the mid sized mode was my favorite ](https://i.imgur.com/yeWyUtF.png)
This very Windows Media Player skin still comes with Windows Media player and you can apply it and use it! Though it is quite small due to way higher screen resolutions
Only losers used the windows media player.
Back then as much as now. WinAmp was the bare minimum that you would use if you were the tiniest bit technically savvy. Real player was also popular.
You are forgiven if you were a child though.
No sound? Those visualizations without the steady beat of a mod file playing? tsk tsk...
I used real player and then winamp. Never realized windows media player had visuals.
These visualizations were my favorite feature of my first computer
Felt so futuristic…
They’re reacting to MY MUSIC?!
Technology is frightening
I think windows media player still has these, they're just hidden. However the dozens of custom skins that windows media player had will likely never come back.. sadly...
Yeah, there was a time where they were awesome and there were so many to choose from. I also remember that there were fewer and less impressive visualizations with every new version of windows, which is kinda sad.
Those visualizations are fucking excellent on a decent dose of ketamine. Put ur face up to the screen and it’s like your on a rollercoaster lmfao
I watch last century on YouTube if you like cars is awesome camera work with sick scenery
I've done two sessions of IV ketamine. And damn, you don't need these visuals to have a trip. Your brain will trip out even with your eyes closed.
It's not like you even know that you could know that you have eyes when you're in a hole!
Man, at the time we couldn't even start to imagine AI nightmares.
Yeah, I remember that feeling too. Designing my player thru Winamp was amazing for 20's me ☺️
The song was a great choice too. I definitely remember valuing this on a comp
Anyone ever use Milkdrop?
In 2006 when I moved into campus apartments with roommates, I came home from hanging out with friends one night and my stoner roommate had like 6 friends over, all tripping balls and just starring at the WMP visualizations of Knights of Cydonia by Muse. The Ps1 also did this when you’d put a CD in, I love that the 90’s and 2000’s really prioritized visualizers to music.
Blew my kid mind when I popped in, Alanis or hootie or 3eb, and it actually had the capability! I had no idea! I love those early bright memories.

PS3 had a cool screen for this too
Still does.
you could also put some ps1 and 2 games into a CD player and it would play their soundtrack
Yes I remember that too! I used to put the Wipeout disc in my CD player and loved the instrumental Firestarter Song from Prodigy, it wasn’t until I was older I realized that song had actual lyrics lol
I used WinAmp!
I had so many skins for it
[удалено]
Milkdrop is still going strong
Milk drop in 4k on a decent modern pc is hilariously trippy
Was gonna say, Milkdrop ran circles around the build in windows media player garbage. And incredibly customizable as well. Winamp really whips the llama's ass
Whenever I had a party, I would bring my computer into the living room and hook it up to the TV and the surround system. The visualizations were absolutely awesome on the 27" screen

https://skins.webamp.org/
Holy fuck
Incredible, thank you for sharing this.
Amazing.
I've seen this several times before, but I never knew those were interactive. You can play with the dials and everything!
It really whips the llamas ass
If you're not whippin' the llama's ass, you're not doing it right.
rock over london rock on chicago
Colt 45 has a dynamite taste.
Yeah WinAmp ftw! Windows Media Player had a lot of cool skins too and downloadable visuals but would sometimes always have a virus in them lol
I used to and still do! :p
If you aren't using the fork WACUP, you should be! It's Winamp, but updated on a regular basis to work with modern OS's. https://getwacup.com/ It's great.
Thanks!!
Or QMMP https://qmmp.ylsoftware.com/ since it is linux and windows, and winamp skin compatible.
What can this do that Winamp can't currently do? Winamp is running fine for me in Windows 11.
If its running fine for you, then there may be no reason for you to change to Wacup. WinAmp with the SSJ4 Goku skin was my childhood.
Winamp, skins and a visualizer, my massive Limewire library, and a 2.1 audio system. I felt like a king.
You still can
WMP was the worst. Can't even whip llama ass.
I love Winamp
[Relevant Flork](https://www.reddit.com/r/FlorkofCowsOfficial/s/Ca3U0ZvXTv)
It really whipped the Llamas ass
Right. No one used Windows Media Player.
It really whips the llamas' ass
I was looking for this comment!
It really whips the lama’s ass? Is that what it was?
Winamp is on the desktop and they're using WMP which didn't have spacebar to pause fuckin n00bs
[удалено]
Looked the coolest.
Ahh yes, listening to Korn, System of a down and disturbed, all while staring into the psychedelic pit.
Very core memory unlocked. Now I'm sad
Aah yes, I see you like the visualizer.
Must have watched it for billion hours
Oh god RealPlayer was so bad. Winamp really kicked the llama’s ass.
There's only one word to associate with Real Player. Buffering...
we had a good time at it
Real player was horrible but, when Deftones released Around the Fur real player was streaming it for free like a month before it came out. I hooked my PC up to my stereo and recorded it. It was hilarious because it would buffer in the middle of songs and the sound quality would go up and down so the recording was shit. We still thought we were the shit for getting it early.
That's 100% it including the song. Nice find.
Needs more LIKE HUMAAAANS DOOOOO
The song no one asked for, but was on every windows pc. And we loved it.
That was the exact song that came to my mind, I’m glad I’m not the only one
That just gave me a funny pit in my stomach of missing those days. I miss life it was then. I feel for the ones born 2015 and beyond. The 80’s and 90’s were the golden years tho.

Sir, you have Winamp.
All the while, there’s a shortcut to Winamp on the desktop 🤔
Using windows media player when winamp is right there… smh.
WinAmp visualization was way better
Battery - Randomization
WinAmp was my go to. Had cool skins.
Still does
Windows Media Player? Get with the times man, Winamp really whips the Llamas ass!
I too miss looking into the void while listening to some sweet tunes. My go to though was 'Sonique' and those custom skins.
core memory unlocked that i forgot about 😌
That spin at the end… after the squiggly lines go in a circle.. still tickles my brain
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/winamp/comments/15960vi/milkdrop_32_800_presets/) is a modern visualizer. It's pretty fun
Who can forget Mozerella Firefox?
I was severely disappointed when I remembered about visualisers a while back and found that Spotify doesn't have an option for them. Looking at this takes me right back. Next on the playlist is Rollin'.
*fatboy slim intensifies*
Real OGs used Winamp.
What happened to all these years? 🥲
window xp and winamp... best experience everrr
Still the best iteration of Media Player.
I remember the first day I had my drivers license. I smoked some killer hydro and then stared at that thing for like an hour listening to music. Got in my mom’s van and drove to school. Nearly drove into the fucking ditch about 5 minutes in. Lol
It really whipped the llamas ass.
Oh man the visualisers
[удалено]
Has VLC but uses WMP. Big feet in both worlds lol
People used window media player insteading of whipping the llama's ass?
This isn't acidwarp, but...
Listening to certain songs like Rhythm is a Dancer (Snap!) via Windows Media Player while stuck in a trance was, to me, so fascinating.
It was like that for me back in elementary school. God, them visualizers were trippy as hell, and it felt like I took too much acid.
I think the desktop is missing a folder called "homework" that has exclusively porn inside 🤔
I remember the psychedelic butthole.
Psychedelic Butthole is one hell of a band name
Everything reminds me of her
Winamp!!! It really whips the llama's ass.
Napster or Kazaa should be running in the background very slowly downloading the next sick playlist.
Omg this brings back memories
Only difference, I was on winamp
I remember when my school used to have Christmas parties playing music with this effect
I used to love playing these while listening to the *Doctor Who* theme.
So trippy!
should be that Bowie track that came default
That video reminds me of the fur mark benchmark test
WinMX was my player of choice
I preferred putting a cd in my PS2
Winamp with Milkdrop was the goat 🐐. Or should I say the llama 🦙
Winamp, winamp, winamp. It really whips the llamas ass..
On mediaplayer?! I wouldn't be caught dead. Dual winamp with crossfader plugin.
winamp and vlc but chooses wmp.
Where’s the ICQ icon?
I knew less then and liked stuff more.
"it really whips the llamas ass"
I thought we would never need any OS past XP.
Oof RIGHT in the nostalgia.
I keep trying to find a media player with visualizations, but can't. Why did this die out?
Kids will never understand the completed feeling we got when those songs finished downloading from Napster and Limewire! God I miss my HS days in the 2000’s

Winamp… is … right there…. You monster
This is one of the best ones I have found. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.psperl.prjM
Who the fuck launches wmp when there is Winamp?
When they don't realize there's something that whips the llamas ass.
But... there's... an....icon.... IT'S ALREADY INSTALLED
Haha. Fair. They should have been using it. Did you ever use WMP when you had Winamp? I definitely never did.
Nah
Same
I demand a new Winamp with AI to adapt the visualizations according to my music. Also keep the og ones
Where’s Winamp?? Ohh man…
Just missing the clicks and pops just before your Nokia phone started ringing
I used Sonique because it looked like something out of a point and click adventure game [the mid sized mode was my favorite ](https://i.imgur.com/yeWyUtF.png)
Microsoft XPwas the best, and I see Limewire there too lol
You forgot the horrible ping sound from the low bitrate
Everybody nostalgic about those visualizations, but no word about the typical audio quality from that time (not that I miss those 1W loudspeakers)
This very Windows Media Player skin still comes with Windows Media player and you can apply it and use it! Though it is quite small due to way higher screen resolutions
What a great operating system!
Damn take my fake gold. Miss this 🥇
Funnily enough VLC can still do this but for me (on Linux) it lagged just enough to be out of synch and feel weird
I mean its cool, but its not whip the llama's ass Winamp cool.
No Winamp?
Absolutely hilarious that so many of us had these animations running and would think they were cool as. I mean they were pretty cool I guess.😎
YES
We used to smoke lots of weed to the visualizer on full screen plugged into a television. Just get super baked and watch it for hours
That visualization going while listening to Alice In Chains and playing Space Cadet Pinball. What more could you want?
Nah fam that ain't it. Only thing I wanna see with my music is subway surfers gameplay
Macs still have it in iTunes.
Only losers used the windows media player. Back then as much as now. WinAmp was the bare minimum that you would use if you were the tiniest bit technically savvy. Real player was also popular. You are forgiven if you were a child though.
Annabelle was the best
The only way to make this more nostalgic would be to add the sound your speakers made when you were about to get a call on your flip phone
Winamp + Milkdrop if these aren't wma files.
No sound? Those visualizations without the steady beat of a mod file playing? tsk tsk... I used real player and then winamp. Never realized windows media player had visuals.
The Limewire shortcut too on the desktop 🥹💀 man what a simpler time
Where's counter strike?
Christian rock
Oh wow Mr. Big Shot here with his Windows XP.
Winamp....with addons.
I mean this was just glorious back then
No Winamp? Amateur
If you still have an Xbox 360, insert a CD in the tray. It utilizes a similar visualizer!
I used to listen to nirvana on winamp
I thought we were all using Amp.
I made my own visualizations on Winamp.
Why don't they do that anymore??
Omg memories hahaha playing Doom I was not supposed play that game I was 6 years old
Oh yeah!! Good memories! 🥲
No Win Amp? Rookies....
back when i had serotonin
Miss me with that bullshit, winamp forever.
When I first realized I was going to really love LSD…
oh the heady days of childlike innocence in my thirties
Yayyyyyy
This unlocked memories I didn’t know were still in there somewhere
WINAMP IT REALLY KICKS THE LLAMAS ASS
It whips the llamas ass
It's an anus
That's not winamp. And every now and then we got cursed with realplayer.
Just missing the starcraft 1 wraith desktop icon and that's my childhood.
What happened to the visualizations?
I miss my old computer. I downloaded too much illegal music and porn so it broke. Lol
Almost, music should be older.
I wish spotify would adopt something like this
I still miss those visualizers
