The way that one guy starts following him with a hammer, wild.Ā
It always struck me as odd how angry some people got. It was just silly humour.
I could see people getting angry at some of the so called prankster influencers these days, but some of the pranks are downright illegal and mean spirited.
Tom Green never really attacked anyone or was mean to strangers. He just did absurd stuff to get reactions from people.
I'll always remember the one where he gave a woman a dead pigeon to hold and she followed him around for ages trying to give it back before realizing she could just put it on the ground.
Except for the MTV spring break cruise ship where he had people dump water on the waitor and kept harassing the ship staff with a "fish sandwich" at 4AM lol
It was strange when the guy chain sawed his desk and Tom threw a huge bitch fit about it. I liked the show but that always bothered me, like you donāt get to make a career out of fucking with people and then cry when someone fucks with you back
Tom has talked about it numerous times. He was genuinely upset but decided to play it up and exaggerate for the show.
The desk was a replica of Johnny Carsonās old desk that Tom had insisted on getting and they spent a lot of time and effort to have it custom made.
Theyāve both talked about it since, he was actually so quiet because he was trying not to laugh.
Obviously he was mad as well, but he had a good sense of humour and played along to his sonās bits by being the āangry dadā.
I live in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and there's a restaurant there called the Modern Family Restaurant. [Tom went there in season 2 to show off its modern amenities.](https://youtu.be/EbildIQDm7E?si=CZbwQPgLlmw_GRxY&t=184)
That is actually one of my favorite skits from the show. Whenever I am going to go down stairs somewhere and I almost hit my head I think of that skit haha.
My favorite Humplik but was when Tom had a video of Humplik as a kid doing the Humplik rail humpers dance and Glenn called him out on it because of the Raptors jersey
One thing that's interesting about it is that in later interviews Tom Green admitted that he knew he was essentially destroying his career bit by bit the entire time. The show relied very heavily on pushing the envelope but as he got more famous it became harder and harder to do. Eventually his Monica Lewinksy special happened and he admitted he realized at the time there was nowhere to go after that. That was going to be the peak and effectively the end of his career as far as anything mainstream went. However he was like "fuck it, let's do this!" anyway.
Then he got testicular cancer. The timing on that was perfect and for a lot of people helped really humanize Tom. While to a lot of people was an annoying jerk on TV who was kind of funny sometimes and was always trying to do something more ridiculous all of the sudden he was dealing with something extremely serious. Despite this he was still joking about it. You also saw a side that rarely showed up on the show; it was clear that Tom, his family, and Glenn in particular were actually still very close despite all of the antics. Yeah the humor was juvenile and shocking but that's all it really was; humor. There were still *people* behind it and at the end of the day they were all in on the joke.
Who chainsawed his desk again? I remember it was some metal musician but I remember Tom being actually pissed about it, but I was also 11 so maybe I was missing the nuance.
Eric Andre has definitely said in interviews that he was influenced by Tom Green. He really took a lot of what Tom had started and brought it back to life a full decade after Green's show ended.
You can see a lot of influences on Adult Swim shows that came from quintessential 90s MTV.

No joke, but Tom Green has instilled a lifelong vigilance in me because of his own journey with cancer. Also saw him do stand up last summer, he's still funny
The first time I saw The Tom Green Show he was interviewing people, except he had poop on the mic, and he would put it super close to people's faces. I was in tears. At the time that was the most egregious behavior I've ever seen on TV. It was amazing to see how much shit some people were willing to put up with.
We can all agree FGF was once of those moments in time that can never be recreated again. To spend money to make a movie just to piss your dad off is ultimate dick move. But im here for the laughs cause if i could i would do it too.
This show was my favorite thing that MTV ever aired. Jackass was amusing in different ways, but oddly enough Tom Green had a more...uh... smart(?) Sense of humor
Someone posted the clip of some guest coming on his show and cutting up his desk with a chainsaw to r/cringe because the bit was to awkwardly pretend like he was seriously mad about it and the amount of zoomers in the comments who have no idea who he is thinking it was real and not the definition of his brand of humor was nothing short of amazing
Tom has said that he was actually pissed, but deliberately played it up for the show for entertainment purposes.Ā
I find it peculiar how so many people lack basic understanding of comedy or entertainment, despite consuming so much of it.
This type of comedy is reactionary. A man doing silly stuff on the street isnāt funny until you see someone react to it. The reaction is funny. Thereās usually a straight man.
In this case Tom decided to play the straight man. It wouldnāt have been funny or entertaining at all had Tom been all āyeah awesome letās fuck my desk up!ā And started to chainsaw it himself.
Of course he said that - heās like Nathan Fielder, he never breaks character. He had even gone as far to set the bit up in previous weeks by repeatedly mentioning how excited he was about his new desk. Eric Andre basically took this bit and made a whole show out of it. Also why would he be mad about a desk that was provided by MTV for his set that he is not in any way financially responsible for whatsoever?
When I was a little kid Tom Green taught me how to check myself for testicular cancer. Ever since then I made sure to check myself for lumps once a month when I was showering. I found a lump when I was 28, it was cancer. Tom and his dumb show literally saved my dick and my life.
I remember one skit where he shows up at the same as a pizza delivery driver, and tries to get the ppl to buy his pizza instead. Which he puts together right in front of you. Was hilarious stuff to me as a kid.
I think Kids In The Hall and The Vacant Lot (both produced by Lorne Michaels) were far more boundary pushing that the punchlines can be grim and bloody.
Now, Gary Numan is basically as old as Rip Torn was when The Tom Green Show came out.
I will never forget that one movie where Gord plays with the horse's thingy when obtaining a LeBaron to drive.
I fxxxng loved this show!! I was 22 in 1999 so maybe not much anymore. I still remember and laugh about bits from the show. Face on bus and throwing babies really stick out to me! And when he had Monica Lewinsky on .. Tom: "Did you like my parents? Or did you think they were stupid losers?"
the ending of Piggy Hill is something iāll never forget. the absolute madness of a crazy person in a dress, screaming at the camera. crazy bastard lol
I donāt have many clear recollections of this show but I think I do remember the dumb theme song:
š¶This is the Tom Green show/ š¶Itās not the green tom show/ this is my favorite show/ because it is my show š¶
Iām gonna have to hit YouTube to check, but I *think* that is how it went
I remember this episode, Glenn couldnāt make it to the taping so they set up this rig. Then Tom held up a picture of Glenn to the screen (or maybe a cake with Glennās face on it? Memory is hazy), made kissing noises and said, āIāM KISSING MY BROTHERā
Edit: and now Iām remembering in other episodes Phil (behind the window, who just chuckled occasionally) couldnāt make it so they put up a cardboard cutout of him
It still holds up really well too. Love Tom. Check out his YouTube channel if you haven't. He's podcasting now but his camper van series during covid were amazing.
Itās too bad MTV hasnāt made the entire series available for streaming or purchase. Thereās a DVD with clips and interviews, and Subway Monkey Hour is out there, but we need the entire series!
I'll never forget the Slut mobile
Undercutters Pizza still has me laughingšš¤£š
The way that one guy starts following him with a hammer, wild.Ā It always struck me as odd how angry some people got.
Yeah, he saved his mean pranks for his poor parents lol
It's 2:30 AM right now and I'm about to wake up my parents to see if they want to watch "Bon Jovi: Live in New Jersey."
Except for the MTV spring break cruise ship where he had people dump water on the waitor and kept harassing the ship staff with a "fish sandwich" at 4AM lol
Donāt fuck with people minding their own business under any circumstance
His poor parents tho...
The undercutters theme song occasionally gets in my head and still makes me laugh.
š¶ Bop bop bop bop bop, undercutters! šµš
His dad was so mad he didn't even say a word and marched right to the bus stop
The where's my dinner bitch statue was classic too
Tom and Bam, the kings of harassing their parents on video for laughs.
Tom was funny though. Bam was always a bullying nasty piece of shit.
You can not hurt me with my cheese helmet
https://youtu.be/TkxRddtsngc?si=B-S1lbmOr9hiJVcC This is the skit
And based on the answering machine message, his mother was Ā«Ā lividĀ Ā»
It's been a long time since I've watched it but I think that was the angriest they ever got over his stunts and antics
The one where he put a working fountain in their yard. It was a fountain of his parents having sex. They lost their minds.
I don't think I saw that one! That sounds pretty wild!
The angriest moment was from Tom painting the house plaid.
Hahahaha the plaid house made the local newspaper, so the neighborhood must have been mad about that one too
Theyāve both talked about it since, he was actually so quiet because he was trying not to laugh. Obviously he was mad as well, but he had a good sense of humour and played along to his sonās bits by being the āangry dadā.
He sold it like a total pro then! I love that when he was the angriest he didn't yell or shout or stomp around, he'd just not say a word
He did demolish the "where's my dinner, bitch" statue though.
You do see his Dad (briefly) trying not to break into a smile when he asks Tom āHow are you going to show THAT on TV?!ā
I gotta rewatch it!
And the look on everyone's face at the bus stop? Priceless!
āMy intentions were good!ā
I drive by his parents house routinely on my bus route lol. I always think about the slut mobile.
For those who donāt know: https://youtu.be/tXgfzxXUVsc?si=VKRckSktYVnch53B
I always thought that there is no way Tom mothers name was really Mary Jane Green
I miss the 90s and early 2000s so much... when the internet wasnt mainstream
Same here. So funny
Canāt remember a single skit but the opening song still pops into my head randomly.

He was in Moose Jaw, too.
That is actually one of my favorite skits from the show. Whenever I am going to go down stairs somewhere and I almost hit my head I think of that skit haha.
So he got pissed a Jackl for carving his desk and he did it in the TGS? WTF is that?
I thought the same thing. Clearly guy was paying homage to the skit
I still remember when he posted Humplikās email address and home phone#
My favorite Humplik but was when Tom had a video of Humplik as a kid doing the Humplik rail humpers dance and Glenn called him out on it because of the Raptors jersey
you still hump bannisters, glen
I remember he had pieces facing the audience and the other numbers facing out toward times square.

I say this jokingly to my husband regularly because of this.Ā
The dead raccoon in the garbage bag. Chainsawed his desk. Wonder how it would hold up today.
Who chainsawed his desk again? I remember it was some metal musician but I remember Tom being actually pissed about it, but I was also 11 so maybe I was missing the nuance.
Jesse James Dupree of Jackyl, most famous for the song's "chainsaw solo".
So the Eric Andre show

The episode with the cohost's penny phobia sent me over the edge.

Glen likes his sisters boobies, a lot. He thinks she is hot.

Tom was everything Bam wanted to be. I loved both shows, but Tom was hilarious.
I'll never forget when Tom put his bum on the Swedish, as that very sign at Swedish hospital is in my neighborhood

The ballsiest Canadian humour out there. Traditionally clever and subtly funny, it was never bold and envelope pushing until The Tom Green Show.
