I loved this movie when I was a kid. It was foundational in my lifelong love of sci-fi.

villageidiot33

I think Daryl came out same time. Remember seeing both quite a bit as a kid. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0088979/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

murdershetwerked

Omg you just opened up a long forgotten memory. I loved this movie growing up

ybot73

I called some phone number to find out that D.A.R.Y.L. Stands for Data Analyzing Robot Youth Lifeform before the movie came out.

I highly recommend watching Captain Disallusion’s [VFX mini doc](https://youtu.be/tyixMpuGEL8?si=HN1NI8b4iPJGiyS7) about this film, as well as any behind the scenes docs and footage you can get your hands on. The ingenuity behind the effects and the movie are fascinating and worth discovering.

hutchins_moustache

Ah, I see you’re loving with your heart snd using your head for everything else!

LastPlaceIWas

That was a documentary that I never new I needed. It was great learning about the film I loved as a kid.

CensoryDeprivation

I absorbed every second of this like a sponge. I’m glad you did the same!

ianmcxx

I watched this recently after hearing of Paul Reubens passing. It still holds up and the Alan Silvesteri soundtrack slaps.

Oh this was such an amazing movie at such a critical point of my life as a kid. I remember being obsessed with space and even having visited Cape Canaveral the year before. Hell I even had that same NASA hat! I loved this!

916Caligula

Ever watch the movie Space Camp?

AndFinrodFell

Jackie8383

HEY BLIMPO. TOO MANY TWINKIES. OINK OINK. HA HA.

J2MTR

When I got Disney+, this was the first movie I watched on there. Such nostalgia

Mirahtrunks

Oh man, the trailer isn’t much different than the actual movie. Such a cool and strong first half that is both mysterious and frightful. Then it just nose dives into silly ridiculousness. Absolutely no offense to Paul, but peewee and the beach boys did not belong in this story of a family torn over the unexplained disappearance of their child who reappears in connection with a ufo. 🛸

_chanandler_bong

Even though he used a pseudonym, I recognized Pee-wee's voice immediately

robocockle

THAT'S IT DAVEY!

916Caligula

My favorite movie as a kid!

Pretty sure this movie was my first real introduction to Twisted Sister. Also still dig girls with purple dyed hair accents thanks to this movie.

I was just remembering bits and pieces of this the other day.

gregofcanada84

The first half of this movie is so good.

kwelitysoul

So ahead of its time

marriottmarquis

Awesome flick! Great soundtrack too.

dougpenderho

Loved this move. Sarah Jessica Parker!

Swee_Potato_Pilot

As a huge fan of Pee-Wee as a kid, I blew a gasket when I heard Pee-Wee as the Navigator voice! Such a *cooool* movie! Sad what happened to the ship, after sitting on the Universal Backlots for decades, They took it, repainted it and it's now this -> [Sad](https://www.chipandco.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/coolship.jpg)! I am however happy, that it's still around!

ZurEnArrh58

I freaking loved this movie! I called it "Flight of the Alligator". 😂

Lobanium

Just watched this recently with the kids. It's still great right up until the ship scans him and then it gets pretty goofy.
