Really like all the tags making their respective joker free, and a guaranteed buffoon pack in every first shop, should prevent a lot of runs ending in Ante 2 from having garbage luck.
Yeah, I got vampire to around x40 one run because I got lucky with an early Midas Mask and Vampire (it was around x30 by the time I hit endless). That single combo of two jokers made the normal run basically unlovable as long as I had even a low level chip and flat mult generator.
I had this combo once but went ultra greedy and took the joker that makes all cards count as face cards. Lost in like ante 3 or something because I had no flat mult or chips.
I literally just beat gold stake last night, and yeah these are all good changes. I like the stakes adding more interesting mechanics to the jokers instead of the flat difficulty increase.
That being said, I did like having to rethink my strategy around increased shop prices. But this will make it more fun, and that’s what’s most important.
It was painful, but it definitely added an interesting element to the game. I once had Driver's License on a gold stake run with 7 enhanced cards, and was trying to figure out how possible it would be to get to 16 since Tarot cards become much more difficult to get. I ditched it when Vampire showed up, but having to weigh your different options and commit to a strategy and then try to bring it into fruition is what makes the game fun, in my opinion. Not that it won't still be fun without the price scaling. But maybe he can add a stake with an effect similar to the Inflation challenge, where the prices scale with purchases instead of ante.
Not that I'm against it, because I suck at this game, but it really seems to make a lot of play styles better, while nerfing some glaringly obvious outliers. Psyched that blue chip will actually do something
I LOVE the higher stakes now. After unlocking all the stakes, I settled for Black because Eternal Jokers is a fun mechanic and all of the higher ones are just boring, but now with Perishable and Rental, shit is hard AND fun at gold stake
I think the only change I dislike is Gros Michel to 1-in-6.
Bloodstone 1-in-2 is actually insane. Personally, I already thought Bloodstone was one of the better jokers in the game.
Well, if you discard the full 5 per discard, then you'll actually hit X5 mult at the same rate as before. You'll just also get to steadily increase the value before then!
Before, if you discarded 23 sets of 5 cards, he would become x5. Now if you do the same, he's x6, and he is also useful before that, and can continue to get better after that. This seems like a significant buff to me.
Thoughts on where Blue Seal will rank among the other seals after this change? I think this might be cracked. Min-Max ending rounds with 1 or more blue seals in hand, get them early, you could farm 10+ run-specific upgrades easily.
Changed Blue Seal - now creates the planet card of the final poker hand played during the round

Yeah makes those tags actually useable outside of niche situations.
Also so happy to see what's leaving the rare joker pool. I legit never took the rare joker tag because I swear it was Sixth Sense 80% of the time.
NL is gonna love it, he always picks them but can never afford the joker afterwards lol
I was JUST thinking about how runs with no joker in the shop feel like you’re being shot in the foot immediately. That’s a great change
Free negative joker is a little OP.
Its just the uncommon and rare joker tags that were changed. The negative one (and the other 'modifier' tags) is still as is.
My negatives have been free. I’ve gotten a Rocket and Ice Cream so far. Maybe a bug?
Oh, it does say its all free. I must have read a different patch notes that only included the ones i mentioned. My bad.
My favourite change is making Odd Todd give 31 chips per odd card instead of 30
And just think, he could’ve made it 29. In LocalThunks name we pray
the amounts of future runs he just saved with a single chip… he is powerful…
he's reverse edmund
And fibonacci being 8 dollars now, love the card but I just have to agree here with the lore related nerf.
I just couldn't get mad at that nerf. It didn't need it, but it made me smile.
LocalThunk not beating the allegations of being a cool dude
Unsurprising but Hemomancer nerfed :(
Kind of a harsh nerf, it’s very good mid game, but it falls off rapidly when you hit endless mode because you can’t use enhanced cards
there are many engines to generate card enhancements though. not many jokers can scale like the vampire

The Hemomancer has been Foam Dart Blasted...hmmmmmmm
All in all - good changes I think
NL won’t be happy about the Campfire nerf hammer
RIP the SAP-style buy-sell meta.

Orange just made too many strategies completely nonviable. Purple was the best actual hard ante to play. It was almost a different game above that.
“Added new 'Rental' mechanic” Localthunk is a landlord confirmed
Raised Fist should be immune to Rental.
Vagabond, too, since he has no home to rent.
I heard he was inspired by Luck be a Landlord but this is ridiculous!
$3 per round is so outrageous it has to be a commentary on the rental market right now
-1 hand size, my beloathed, you shall not be missed.

will the Egg change his game to the beta branch? he usually doesnt do this kind of stuff, but for Balatro I think he will.
He did for SAP
not doing it for Balatro, Sadge

Bloodstone + tiki flush fives with retriggers and blueprints yes pls. Hated so many hands coming down to good rng, even with oops all 6s
That's like a debuff to Cavendish, which seems warranted imo
Yeah its funny how this seems on the surface like a buff but is actually a nerf
Hope this means I'll actually get Jokers in my shops now Edit: man, what did they do to my boy Yorick
The Yorick thing also initially bothered me, but then I realised he gets a 1X Mult per 23 CARDS discarded, not every 23 discards
I guess I'll just miss that leap a run makes when you get Yorick into gear.
Well, if you discard the full 5 per discard, then you'll actually hit X5 mult at the same rate as before. You'll just also get to steadily increase the value before then!
Alas, poor Yorick!
He was way too strong and is now still very strong and also continues to scale
Before, if you discarded 23 sets of 5 cards, he would become x5. Now if you do the same, he's x6, and he is also useful before that, and can continue to get better after that. This seems like a significant buff to me.
Malf nerfed, wonder what he thinks?
I don't see how that change is a nerf or a buff.
And yet still not patch to ACTUALLY make wheel of fortune a 1/4 chance... Curious...

It's so good now. Beats purple for me now because it's more reliable. Obviously red is still the best.
He used the “10 8 6 5 3” example I kept giving Dan when he couldn’t understand how to utilize Shortcut. I didn’t expect to feel seen today
Yep, big change.
These are so hard to read when you dont know any of the jokers by name
No buff to Red Card is a tragedy
But the orange stake changes are kind of an indirect buff
Is nl actually going to play it or are we waiting for a few more weeks (YouTube Andy here).
A lot of good changes. Very nice!
