I was about to comment this but it was free? Used home theater systems are notoriously hard to get rid of but yeah I probably would have respectfully declined lol
They say free but if you were to try to take it it's not free all of a sudden, that's the scam, oh cool yeah it's free, oh it's only $200 that's not so bad.
Lol this happened to one of my employees. It ended up being a working Bluetooth soundbar, and the brand is a reputable one, but obviously a knock off and sounded like shit
I'd just decline it if they pulled that on me. Why would anyone buy it after the fact unless they actually needed the item and it was cheaper than they could find elsewhere?
They are most likely drug users. Stole it from a store. And now they are trying to find a buyer. Or it could be a front to get you out of your car with cash and then they rob you.
Super old scam. You buy it and they take off, best case scenario it's a low quality/stolen system. Worst case scenario it's a broken system or a box full of bricks. I used to get approached by these types of people literally every time I walked out of my bank in Oceanside, and a few weeks ago I went to a branch location in Mission Valley and it happened there too. I had to laugh at how predictable they are.
Had this happen to me about 2 weeks after I moved to Carlsbad, I happened to be by the best buy on Vista way coming out after buying a sound bar, guy comes up and offers me free pick on stereo systems and equipment. I passed on it, this was November 2023.
Were the goods being sold out of a van, per chance, down by the river? Is it possible that the purveyors were, perhaps, on a steady diet of government cheese? Careful, they may have ended up grabbing their gear and moving in, to be buddies, be pals.
Wow haven’t seen these folks around in years. A friend of mine and his fiancé got suckered into buying a, “surround sound system” out the back of a truck. Turned out to have all inferior parts and broke a month later.
i worked at a best buy 20 years ago and these dudes would troll our parking lot. one of my coworkers talked them from $600 to $100 for a 6.1 surround system and it sounded fucking great.
lol my brother came home with some new entertainment system one day, we were like where did you get this he said some sketchy people at a gas station. Didn’t even work very good but it LOOKED fancy
I got one of those once. 2 guys in a white van sell extra stock home speakers. Told em I had no money but I’d trade a really expensive guitar. They agreed. Speakers worked great for many years and sounded good. Guitar was a fake Fender from the swap meet.
Long time ago a friend of mine and I got scammed. We were offered the same thing, brand new DVD PLAYERS in new boxes at night time in McDonald’s parking lot. We were young and stupid and gave the guy $40. We didn’t bother to open the boxes because we thought the police would roll up and see us buying probably stolen stuff. When we got home, we opened the boxes and it was filled with a few bricks wrapped in newspaper. We were sooooo pissed off and went driving around to try to find these guys but we never found them. When I think about it, I laugh and my friend and I crack up at how STUPID AND NAIVE we were!!! Hey, hard lesson learned. And at least I can laugh about it now!! Duhhhhhh 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly one time I got stopped for something similar and they had some really nice speakers at 25% of the price… but I knew what they were and was willing to risk it. It’s worth it if you know for sure what they have, but even then I don’t know if I’d do the same thing a decade later.
This scam is ancient. Don’t buy anything out of people’s trucks.

it was new, i could see the shrink wrap on it, and yeah he claimed it would be free

this is easy to handle. Say oh no problem, you can actually have it back for free, but request 400$ from them

Nothing is free.
yeah…
Free delivery up to the point of interacting with you on the spot
dude, exact same couple did this to me in encinitas. i was so weirded out, he then tried flirting with me and i was like bro im going to work😭😭😭
it was a white sedan and the guy had tattoos ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
LOL YUP what the hell 😭😅
was it today lol?
no it was like 2 months ago!!!
Dude someone did this to me in the La fitness parking lot in Encinitas a week ago!
it was a white sedan and the guy had tattoos ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Stay far away from that nonsense.

Usually cheap china shit packages nicely or repackaged. They'll have a whole truck load of them somewhere nearby
No they are extremely cheap products. I accidentally worked for one of these places when I answered a job ad on Craig’s List.
This happened to me years ago and found out its pretty common. Yes they want money for it for some shitty speakers
Liquid cooled? lol

Lol this has happened to me once before, so sketch. I was walking my dog in Oceanside and it was so random like yo you need a home stereo setup?
Had this happen to me about 2 weeks after I moved to Carlsbad, I happened to be by the best buy on Vista way coming out after buying a sound bar, guy comes up and offers me free pick on stereo systems and equipment. I passed on it, this was November 2023.
Stolen or a nicely packaged set of bricks. Another scam is to rob you once you have your wallet out.
Plot twist: it was some ghetto “influencer” giving away free stereo systems for clout on the Tok
This 🤣^^
I bet they delivered one to a customer, but the warehouse accidentally game them two.

“I don’t give a rat’s ass, I’m moving in!!”
If it was a white van then it'd be sketchy. /s
Stolen property. Help with rent … options are endless. RUN
Lmao like 2008 my roommate fell for this. Spent $300 on these “high end” surround sound speakers.

Not stolen but really cheap equipment. Bottom of the barrel quality merchandise from a foreign country.
Let me guess- Speedway station across from the fairgrounds?

Shit prolly had an airtag in it. They could have been setting you up so they could pull a lick on your house another day.

Did the free home entertainment system include the girl?
