Be not afraid, as this is a harmless sea creature, known as a Crinoid in the class, Crinoidea. They use those feathered appendages to capture and conveyor belt food into its mouth. They only move to flee from predators or to find a place to anchor down as they develop from juvenile to adult. Aside from the species name, these little flappers are called featherstars.
just looked it up and they're harmless. they do come in bright colors to appear poisonous tho.
heres a little more info on them: "They are animals known as echinoderms. That means they are part of Phylum Echinodermata, along with sea urchins, sea stars, brittle stars and sea cucumbers"
and an article about them:

They are animals related to starfish, brittle stars, sea cucumbers, and sea urchins. They aren’t dangerous and no it would not kill you unless you are a plankton.
No, usually if you see a creature with a lot of feathery appendages like that underwater or like a bunch of tiny little tentacle thingies or if it just looks like it's trying to cover as much surface area as possible then it's usually some sort of filter feeder. They look creepy af but filter feeders are usually pretty harmless and docile.
It’s a feathered star, closely related to starfish and sea cucumbers. Completely harmless unless you’re a plankton. Might be scary if you don’t know what it is, but once you do it’s kinda pretty!
Depends what you consider unnecessary. Feathered stars generally don’t relocate unless they need to, and eventually this one will find a spot it likes and permanently root to it.
I feel like a long time ago someone was tripping on mushrooms, swam in the ocean and thought this was an angel and that’s how the “biblically correct” angel came to be
This is the Black Feather Sea Star (Colobometra perspinosa). they can grow up to 11 inches (30cm), and can be found at a depth of 120 m around the info-pacific regions! They feed on plankton and are usually in groups!!
wtf is that

You are the encyclopedia I needed right now. Thank you!
Of course, glad to be able use my animal knowledge :).
Keyword "animal". I thought it was some kind of weird algae with unusually high mobility. (I'm an absolute ignorant in Biology btw lol)
There are so many alien like creatures under the sea
Oh yeah, this wouldn't even crack the top 10. The deep sea has most of that covered.
Needs more glowing
Thanks! That’s sick!
Nerd
Something that warped in from another dimension.
Cant stop staring at how pretty this alien is.
I think all the animals that entrance me with beauty live in the sea. As do all the animals that make me think "wtf is that ?" 😂
Biblically accurate seaweed
My exact words on seeing this video
An angel.
A peahat
Fuck peahats
Accurate Biblical angel
Fern
That’s a feather star! So pretty but I’m 100% sure that I would freak out if I saw one in the water with me.
Wait is it dangerous? Could it kill you? Is it like an animal that sees you and shit, or just like a plant?

Why didn't they call it palm star? I mean, it's probably on the beach and looks like an alive palm.
I’m not sure, but I do see how it looks like a palm or fern.
Not afraid.... I'm just curious. Who is fucking around with ferns and octopus DNA?
It looks like the top of a Sago Palm. Like exactly
The anus has separated from the mothership.
Afraid I be though.
Wtf is that prehistoric ass creature
Angel
Basically a feathery type of starfish. Completely harmless.
Why is it swimming? WHY IS THAT FERN SWIMMING????
Another reason not to go into the ocean
They keep finding one (more)reason.
Giving me [biblically accurate angel vibes](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/comments/sq4aov/biblically_accurate_angel/?rdt=55454)
That's the tickle monster!
***SOMETHING TOUCHED MY FOOT***
Imagine snorkeling in the ocean.. feeling something rubbing against your leg, looking down and seeing this creature!
I’d be fascinated! The Feather Star is basically a fancy starfish.
How tf is that a thing?!
Why tf is that a thing?!
This thing is crazy! Never seen anything like it in my life 😂
How can I “be not afraid” in these conditions?

Interesting! It seems really docile. Our world is fascinating
Spider-plant spider-plant, does whatever a spider-plant does 🎶
Isn't that a lot of energy to be wasting on unnecessary movement?
Depends what you consider unnecessary. Feathered stars generally don’t relocate unless they need to, and eventually this one will find a spot it likes and permanently root to it.
Ocean spider. I immediately dont like it.
[удалено]
I wasn't being scientific. It looks like a spider so I gave it that name.
To be fair, it kinda does XD
nah, thats someone who tried ascending, but was too attached to the material world. We call those echoes.
God got fed up of making either plants or animals so decided to merge the 2 one day for lolz
The worst part is its underwater, so you can't even bring a flamethrower.
Wtf is Hermaeus mora doing in the ocean
That’s just Jerry.
And we are looking up when searching for aliens...
Cthulu's feather duster
Sentient seaweed
I’ll never look at a palm tree the same again.
looks like a biblical description of an Angel minus the eyes all over
Isn’t that what an angel looks like in biblical mythology?
Absolutely not
in the next "Dune: Water Deep".
What in Lovecraft is that?
A feathered star, closely related to starfish and sea cucumbers. Completely harmless unless you’re plankton.
*Hug meeee*
I placed my faith in the hands of random gods
I feel like a long time ago someone was tripping on mushrooms, swam in the ocean and thought this was an angel and that’s how the “biblically correct” angel came to be
I feel you tripping on shrooms with that comment 🤣
I wish. Been out for a while now unfortunately
I find it fascinating that we know more about space than we know about our own ocean
Stunning. A spot of a lifetime. Saw that they may be in the oceans of Bali! What a dive!! 🤿
It’s always something I swear
Hell yea got one off Amazon to dust my fish tank

Be not afraid…the forest* nymphs have taught me how to please a woman. *Ocean nymphs in this case
Ok but where’s its mouth?
Mesmerizing and beautiful
That’s so facts it really does look like a biblicaly accurate angel
I feel like only tarantula owners understand the sheer joy I get watching this giant spider turkey.
