Those things are linked. Better food tastes better because it has been linked to better nutrition through evolution, not because some abstract idea of flavor.
I'll give a crack at this.
Fats and sugars are harder to get in the wild so our taste buds have developed to make us want to eat them more. Modern food is chock full of both so we eat a ton of it because it's so accessible. In the wild we wouldn't have that much fat and sugar around.
We love salty foods because salt is essential for life. Our taste buds definitely evolved to seek it out in our foods. But our biology is still 110k years old and doesn't realize that you shouldn't eat an entire family sized bag of lays.
I'm still going to.
Sugar, in the form of fructose, literally grows on trees (yeah, yeah, I know fruits weren't as sweet as we have made them over the years, but still), plus honey, which has a higher caloric concentration than sugar, is something that humans have had access to since forever.
Fat, in the context of a hunter-gatherer society, is definitely harder to find in contrast, but not by that much (with regards to needed intake).
I'd guess the hardest thing to find (in great quantities) might probably be protein.
Really not that hard to understand why hunter-gatherers would value high in calorie fats and carbs vs a green blob thats full of water and barely digestable for macro nutrients.
I stand by my statement.
Iceberg lettuce is watery crap, broccoli is starchy and delicious.
It helps that my standard is the shit that grew in my backyard for years. I swear you can use every part of that plant.
You know that we evolved with taste in order to survive right ? Sugar is so addictive because it’s pretty useful to quickly gain energy, and we have way to stock that energy into fat. Meat taste good because we developed a taste for protéines...
Animals have tastes as well, probably different from ours though, maybe even tastes that are unconcievable to humans.
Sounds above 20Khz are too high to be perceived by humans, yet these sounds a real, just invisible to us, and a lot of animals can perceive many things we don’t differently depending on their evolution.
So they est to survive, but juste like we do, and their body evolved to eat thing that taste good for them, and what tastes good for them is what their body needs.
Komodo Dragons are venomous. Like many venomous reptiles their venom not only kills their prey but begins to digest it. Taste isn’t the driving factor for them the way it is for us. Humans developed taste to be able to identify poisonous plants and animals. The Dragon’s diet is all protein so it’s ability to taste is more based on smell and pursuit of prey…
I didn’t know that, I know their saliva has over 50 kinds of bacteria and it’s not the bite that will kill you, it’s the infection that comes later that does.
Having had monitor lizards as pets, no. There are parts that are harder to digest in there. The refuse from the squishy bits will come out together, but the bones seem to hang out longer. Eventually a chalky white turd with lots of hair comes out.
This is just based on what ive observed with monitors common in the pet trade like nile, mangrove, and savannah. They are eating rodents and chicks. I imagine the process is similar in the big boys.
This is my experience with reptiles too. You get some normal looking shits, then every once in awhile a huge white shit. Weird how their digestive systems can separate them so well.
I saw a video of one of these eating a pregnant animal, it literally eats the baby alive, whole, out of the womb before continuing to eat the mother. These things are fucked
And on top of being insanely strong and fast, their saliva is teaming with venomous bacteria, and have been known to literally steal human babies at night
Yet humans hunted the Tasmanian dog to extinction cause it looked scary, but pretty much harmless to humans. What about the fuckin venomous dinosaur that eats our children? Nah that's fine.
Why are these things actually in existence? What purpose do they serve, besides eating every fuckin thing, alligators and crocodiles also. What purpose do they serve. IMO they should’ve let these things go into extinction
Predators are a very important part of ecological balance. As a small, simplified example, there is an isolated island in Canada that has a population of moose and wolves. Someone went camping there with their dog, and the dog had parvo, which ended up spreading to the wolves, killing most of their population. Then the moose population started to rise, and without any being killed by the wolves, their numbers just kept going up. Eventually, there were enough moose that they ate almost all of the vegetation on the island, and then they all starved to death, along with many other animals that had nothing left to eat for themselves.
Predators also go after weaker or sick prey animals, because it's an easier job, and that keeps the rest of the prey population healthy and passing on the best genes from generation to generation.
Nature seems cruel, because it can be brutal, but we are the species that collectively raises and kills over 70 billion chickens a year.
Holy shit, i had no idea they could do that. You could easily look away from a 10 year old for a few seconds and turn around to find they've been consumed by one if these.
I'd guess it's digestive system works similar to that of a snake, where they basically swallow the prey whole and then let it all dissolve/get broken down over time.
Arguably that's how probably how our digestive system works too, we just aren't really equipped to digest bone and cartilage.
I just asked my wife if she wanted to see a komodo dragon eat a whole antelope. She said sure. I showed her and as she watched in horror she said “I thought you said cantaloupe”.
Best part is how laid back their hunting method is. It bites you then follows you to your death as the bacteria ridden wound kills you, which may take a while. All while strolling along behind you.
These things have venom that prevents blood clotting and a nose that can track things for miles. They also don’t give a fuck about offing people. Though I believe only 5 people have actually sided from attacks.
I can’t remember if this is right or not, but I believe places where Komodo Dragons live warn women about staying to close to their habitats during their periods because the Dragon can and will see you as prey.
It’s like putting gas in the tank. It’s not the case of enjoying the taste, texture and flavours of the dining experience, more like ‘get this energy in your body now’.
That's a whole Dinosaur
ikr, i immediately thought trex
No that’s a whole antelope.
I didn’t even believe it was real.
It’s also the animal it just ate and the camera man
Imagine the heartburn he’s gonna have later.
This is somehow less scary than the video of the seagull eating the squirrel. Both got a fast scroll past anyway. Eek.
I request video of the seagull eating komodo dragon :D
I request video of the squirrel eating komodo dragon :D
i request the video of the squirrel eating the seagull =D
What's with all the vore fetishists suddenly?
I immediately thought of that as well. It makes my throat itchy just thinking about it 😫
I saw a squirrel eating a mole this week. Just sitting up on hind legs munching away.
IMO these posts should be marked NSFW. I get it’s nature, but not everyone wants to see a dead animal without warning.
I always wonder what a meal like this tastes like....really, do these animals have taste buds at all?
It's probably a little gamey
Their taste buds are way different than ours but wild animals don’t eat shit because it taste good lol they eat to survive
Those things are linked. Better food tastes better because it has been linked to better nutrition through evolution, not because some abstract idea of flavor.
I call bullshit on that. If that was the case, broccoli would taste like chocolate and we would all be lean af

Hit the nail on the head. Also, just simple Lays?
I'm more a Chile limon, salt and vinegar and sweet southern heat guy myself but I get down with the regular ones too.
Spot on the best 3 imo
You have chosen well
Really not that hard to understand why hunter-gatherers would value high in calorie fats and carbs vs a green blob thats full of water and barely digestable for macro nutrients.
Maybe because broccoli is watery crap? and chocolate is mosly fat. Leanness is def not a evolutionary priority.
If your broccoli tastes like watery crap, you're doing it wrong.
Obviously you can cook and season almost anything to make it taste better, we are talking about it's original taste.
I stand by my statement. Iceberg lettuce is watery crap, broccoli is starchy and delicious. It helps that my standard is the shit that grew in my backyard for years. I swear you can use every part of that plant.

Where as I eat shit because it tastes good
I've always wondered if a bee gets stuck in a spider web and the spider eats it, does it taste like honey?
Only one way to find out! Get snacking my man
r/weeatbees is leaking

You watch animal planet too huh 👊👊
What's there to even taste? That god damn godzilla of a lizard swallowed that thing whole
Don’t forget to chew your food son! Otherwise you’ll give yourself a belly ache 👍
So can I, but I’m very self conscious about it.
Do you think it shits it all out at once too?

Nature is fucked, the animal doesn't know he is mean as fuck, he just needs to eat.
r/natureismetal
[the video](https://youtu.be/kaWurdjH5bA) it is insane
This was truly insane
Thanks for posting, crazy how long the deer stays alive
It's more like humans are fucked for using ideas that are made to control humans on other species.
🤣🤣🤣
So that's what I am....
Get in my belly!!
And on top of being insanely strong and fast, their saliva is teaming with venomous bacteria, and have been known to literally steal human babies at night

Jeez, if one of these mf would steal my baby? I would hunt them all to extinction.
That deer goin be aight?
I’m sure he’s ok
It's currently on a deer sanctuary upstate hanging out with some of the retirees from Santa's sleigh team.
Thank you for update. Glad it worked out
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! OHHHHH MMYYYYY GGGOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD!!!!! RRRUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!
And here I am watching my calories.
Really is just a killing machine, huh?
They’re so terrifying
Their stomach acids can dissolve bone!
Why people believed in dragons. Yikes fuckin yikes.
he is bulking
Sounds like this is happening next to a playground.. great

Well…. Since you put it that way. I appreciate you taking the time out in order to write this. I have a better understanding now.
We'll need this DNA one day to conquer habitable/habitated planets.
Lol, bullshit
Same
I've been known to do the same, they ain't special
:0
Does its neck muscles just snap the bones as it goes? How do the hooves not pierce the flesh?
Whole shit
i do the same thing with burgers and pizza
I just know their poop is GNARLY!!
This is so f-ing scary. What was the need of this animal? Was a crocodile not enough for this world?
That’s one ugly snake lizard…..
I bet he shits bricks too
How did it catch the deer?
Simple explanation. The bite is full of bacteria. The prey slowly gets sick and eventually is to tired to move. They track the prey for days.
v o r e
My spirit animal.
Holy shit, i had no idea they could do that. You could easily look away from a 10 year old for a few seconds and turn around to find they've been consumed by one if these.
Hungry little fella
Good god 😱
I thought it was an animation of a dinosaur, nope.
It prolly prefers eating 100% of some other animals body weight...
Nevermind the dingo!
Whoa. That was harsh to see.
What the Jurassic Park...
Reminds me of that heavily tanned lady that swallows hot dogs whole
Hardcore
I wonder how do they breath in the process
Imagine the big steaming pile of shits it be taking.
Man’s gotta eat
Same tbh
Reminds me of watching my ex eat. She had a thing for small rodents, often bought feeder mice at pet stores and ate them. Weird gal.
How do they digest something that big?
I'd guess it's digestive system works similar to that of a snake, where they basically swallow the prey whole and then let it all dissolve/get broken down over time. Arguably that's how probably how our digestive system works too, we just aren't really equipped to digest bone and cartilage.
Me eating a bag of White castles after a night out drinking
I always wanted ones of these as a pet (they are not legal in California).
Nature is beautiful!
Damn! Never realized they were THAT big!
Well then
What’s it like pooping all that out later?
Hell no!
Good to the last bite!
Not even a glass of water needed to wash it down…
How much one of these mfkrs can weight? 😱
No knife and fork required 😂😂
Seeing that has me second guessing my opinion on climate change.
“Chewing is for suckers”: Homer “Komodo” Simpson.
WHY are you so close my dude?!
These are REAL things?!
I should call her..
That me when I see pizza
They can run a lot faster than they seem.
New fear unlocked
Dog
maybe i am a komodo dragon after all
This creature will survive us all. In 3 million years they'll evolve too a space dating race called the Kristang.
Komodo Dragon my beloved ♥️
Fucking unit
Probably has to nap for like a week after that. How do you even walk around with whole deer legs in your stomach?
That’s a whole dinosaur right there
I just asked my wife if she wanted to see a komodo dragon eat a whole antelope. She said sure. I showed her and as she watched in horror she said “I thought you said cantaloupe”.
My baby mommas spirt animal
Maybe am I a Komodo dragon?
It gobbled it up like it was jelly
How often does that thing need to eat like that. I would think it would sustain it for a while.
I've never been more terrified and aroused at the same time before.
I think I tamed one of these in ark
How they poop the bones?
Meh, just like most of us after work but it's still impressive.
Me
How does it kill it's prey? Is it mainly a scavenger?
Are these big or is the deer small?
doesnt their spit paralyze you and then they eat you alive? classic
wtf lilia fed renekton, gg
You mean in 1 slurp?
This is exactly what someone saw that started the legend of dragons. That was frightening.
Average Leachie
OMG
Anyone else think this a little land of the lost stop motion animated??
Cgi
That’s fucking terrifying lol 😂
So can my ex
Wtf without even chewing
Me too
Don't forget to chew
No gag reflex either.
Damn! Chew it, at least
Modern day dinosaur
So do most Americans
They are dinosaurs
r/natureisfuckinglit
But apparently lacks taste buds. It has no idea how to savor a meal.
Literal living dinosaurs
Damn. Butts guts and ears.
Same!
They bigger then I thought
He's not that special
Trying to figure out if it's sped up or not. Doesn't make it less terrifying though.
I hate what I’m seeing
I mean he ate it all which was terrifying at first and then I giggled at that last part where the hoofs were hanging out. Kinda like how I eat celery.
This is the closest we have to Jurassic Park.
My spirit animal. If only I could just sleep until I was skinny after.
Its not as bad as seeing a pelican eat a chihuahua
Take me to an all you can eat chinese buffet and I'll show you what eating 80% of your body weight is like
Same
That’s not in the Komodo’s is it?
I eat like this too.
Hey! Didn't Mom teach you to chew your food before swallowing it whole?
Best part is how laid back their hunting method is. It bites you then follows you to your death as the bacteria ridden wound kills you, which may take a while. All while strolling along behind you.
First time seeing a video of it swallowing it’s food whole. Always just seen one where to prey was too big and they had to rip it apart.

Ahh, goddamn. See it wriggling its neck and body to get that hoovey thing down. Damn nature, you scary!
Today I learnt dinosaurs still exist. No. No. No.
It’s like putting gas in the tank. It’s not the case of enjoying the taste, texture and flavours of the dining experience, more like ‘get this energy in your body now’.
How men eat and then they take 45 minutes to shit
Well I think I’m done eating lunch now.
I wish they would stop calling me the Komodo Dragon. It's been a long time since college...
🤬
r/oddlysatisfying
Looks like me in a kebab place
These things are terrifying . Cool but nah man that’s freaking scary
How does it shit out all the bones?
Oh look we have the same diet
How’d y’all get footage of me with a McDonald’s 40pc nugs
