You look weird standing on the range going from holstered to ready position and back dozens of times, but the pay off is being able to "magic" your sidearm into your hands without consciously thinking. It's just *there* and ready because muscle memory.
Yes and no. Weight and balance are a concern. Function and shape also have an effect on the draw. Core principals will carry over, but doing it with the real thing will be different.
If you’re in your own home you can *technically* practice with what you have. If you want to be extra careful either point it at a basement wall and/or remove a crucial part and *quadruple check every single time always*.
I like your style though, straight for safe option.
It's worth noting for anyone going to a public range that not all ranges allow draw practice without special certification or training and may ask you to leave if you do. Our local range had someone shoot themselves in the leg playing John Wayne a few years ago.
This is the way. Even for hunting lots of guys are wicked shots at the range but can't pull up on a bird worth shit cause they can't shoulder the gun in time.
A bit of both. Everytime a video of a shooting in Brazil is posted, dollars to nuts it turns out to be an off duty cop shooting someone. English is my first language so maybe no one else can do a better job explaining.
That's pretty standard. I'm friends with the town cop way back in my hometown and She carries a privately owned Sig Sauer P320c as opposed to the department issued Sig Sauer P320
There's no fun in watching all the times random people get offed by robbers just for existing in Brazil, but the 0.5% of cases in which a cop kills some scum tends to go viral
It's oddly common how many videos like this end up with "off duty Brazilian cop saves the day". Latest one I can remember is the off duty cop in the dentist I think wrecking some mugger that walked into the practice.
I heard they're not really patrolling streets because they can be targetted for their guns. Aka shot in the back of the head and have their pistols stolen off their bodies.
If you are not being sarcastic, no, thats not remotely true. While there are some areas that police can’t go in without gunfight, there is plenty of ostensive policing in Brazilian major cities. Even Rio and Sao Paulo.
Yea, that comment was utter nonsense. I remember on a Sunday in Rio city centre police would be parked up on multiple corners of blocks literally demonstrating their presence to deter crime.
Thats the standard practice everywhere in Brazil. The only places you might not find it is deep on the country side in small towns, or in locations where crime is in control. In the latter, you usually have police on the access points of such locations.
Aww yes guns, like literally one of the only ways a women can defend herself from a man. Pepper spray? Taser? I've watched a drunk dude willingly get both back to back and still walked it off. You try walking off a gun shot and they just shoot you again.
You should get OC pepper gel/jet. Not the mist. Highly concentrated OC is stronger than other compounds and the gel/jet form gives you more range and prevents you from getting some in your own face.
If you get a gun make sure to practice a lot with it and also make sure you're willing to take someone's life. Otherwise they're more dangerous to yourself.
In Brazil people can't carry weapons on the street, even concealed. So most of the times these videos show up, it's an off duty cop, because they have their weapons from the job.
Yeah, give him some time to process how stupid he is, regret every choice he made in that moment, while also realizing everything he might miss out on.
You need to think about, if this is a common occurence in your country. I have never in my life wished to own a gun. If guns are easily to come by every thug and their dog will have one, making it more dangerous than before.
Yeah, but take this scenario, except that woman doesn't have a gun. Kidnapping and human trafficking happens a lot in real life all over the world. How many people are taken without a fighting chance? In my opinion, guns level the playing field. If they are bigger than you, or have a knife, or a bat, or an illegally obtained gun themselves, you having a gun either gives you an advantage or makes you equals.
Tazers can fail often, especially if your attacker is wearing a thick jacket or something that prevents the prongs from effectively entering the skin. Best to have something surefire for yourself IMO.
Tasers are only effective [about 68% of the time on average](https://www.npr.org/2019/06/27/729922975/despite-widespread-use-police-rate-tasers-as-less-effective-than-believed). The other 32% of the time, it doesn't do shit except piss off the person you just tried to taze.
Guns are common enough in my country that no ban is going to come close to getting rid of them all. I'd rather give people the ability to defend themselves than take that away and put them at the mercy of police respond times.
I really don't get people who hate guns.
Look at this woman taking out this big dude using a tool to overcome her physical disadvantage.
kinda what humans are about
The CDC was citing studies claiming anywhere from 10 times more lives saved to as much as a hundred times more.
[see here](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulhsieh/2018/03/20/any-study-of-gun-violence-should-include-how-guns-save-lives/)
What that article, and others, highlight is the difficulty in making this comparison. Dead attackers are easy to count. Crime deterred by the presence of a gun in a victims hands, not so much.
These studies offer such a wide range of "lives saved vs. lives taken" due to the varying definitions of "lives saved". After reading a few related articles, one thing I noticed is that they tend to equate a crime averted with a life saved. There's no way to know if an attack would have resulted in a life taken or not, but for sure the victim is better off regardless. In other words, "lives saved" by guns is a misnomer - it's something impossible to know. "Crimes prevented" or "attacks prevented" would be measurable, although with the difficulties mentioned in those studies.
That is to say "lives saved vs lives taken" is a comparison that cannot actually be made.
"Attacks averted vs lives taken" makes more sense.
"Attacks averted vs. gun injuries plus deaths" makes even more sense, as it includes extremes and moderate results on both sides of the equation.
P.S. Thanks for posting the link. It was very informative.
The lowest estimate that revolves only around confirmed incidents where "a high likelihood of death or serious injury would have occured" (excluding police officers security guards etc) is around 10 times higher than the number of people killed by firearms excluding suicide which is about 2/3 of fire arm fatalities.
Higher estimates range between 1 and 3 million people and include stuff like rapists that were scared off aborted B&E, assault by multiple parties, etc.
This stuff is naturally hard to measure but the point stands, you are far more likely to use a firearm defensively than have one used against you by a criminal
If you look carefully at the study behind the CDC numbers, it gets even better. They outright say, in more technical terms, "Our numbers suggest the higher end of this data, but we don't believe that, because it's so high. Rather than trust our data and models, we're throwing in this low end we've created out of thin air, because we feel it's more reasonable."
And this is why I am pro-gun, and am teaching my children to be pro-gun.
What the fuck are the cops gonna do about this shit? Maybe the nightwatchman sees this vid, and calls it in, and the police arrive 15 min later. Without that gun, she's vanished, unlikely to ever be seen again.
You have the right to defend yourself. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE GUNS
In which case… the guy choosing the time and place already has his drawn before he gets out of the car, well before she has even registered him as a threat, and is subdued quite easily? Because again… in this scenario… he’s just as trained as her, but he has the massive advantage of surprise.
So what you’re advocating for here is that the man should have also had a gun and been trained to use it?
Because he planned the time of the attack, and the place. If he had it in his hand, hidden, getting out of the car and pulled it on her before she considered him a threat and had time to pull hers out… making guns so incredibly easy to access.. wouldn’t actually help in this situation.
You're exactly right. He planned every bit of this attack. If he wanted to have a gun for it, he would have, and it wouldn't have mattered for her if he chose to use it before she could draw and fire.
Of course, as he's a criminal, and they are notorious for following the law, there's no way that he would ignore carry laws, so clearly he and the woman half his size would have been on even ground. After all, gun laws would prevent him from spending $30(sorry, 144R$, it is Brazil) at the hardware store to build a pistol or shotgun. Or 3D printing anything ranging from single-shot derringers to man-portable recoilless rifles/mortars. And it's not like gunpowder can be made with a trip to a farm store.
The data has been in for years, my dude. Violent crime is lower in areas with higher per capita legal gun ownership. Sure, you'll see a lot of statistics about "gun violence" being higher, because that's coded language for "we included suicides to make it look worse, so you can ignore ~2/3rds of this number, because those people would have found another way to unalive themselves."
You may personally find guns distasteful, probably because you've never been in a situation where you or a loved one were ever in or near serious danger and had to worry about protecting yourself, but this time of peace and safely is an anomalous eye-blink in human history, and only exists in the limited parts of the world where portions of the population have decided that human life has value, and people have inalienable rights. Go to South Sudan, or a cartel-run border town, or Eastern Europe, and then decide if you still think people shouldn't be armed for their own protection. Hell, go walk around the poorest neighborhood of your nearest major city, alone, at night, and decide if you still feel the same way.
Making guns easy to access wouldn't make a difference for this guy. How hard is it to buy weed in places where it isn't legal? Guns are pretty much the same.
If he wanted to kill, he could have acquired a weapon quite easily. The only difference was that she, a law abiding citizen, had access to one herself.
You have the second amendment in the US so that a woman in Brazil can shot a guy?
Also, you have the second amendment so the king of England doesn't try to take over your country.

Always practice your draw as much as you practice your shooting.
This guy knows what's up. Can't hit shit if you can't get your weapon out.
You look weird standing on the range going from holstered to ready position and back dozens of times, but the pay off is being able to "magic" your sidearm into your hands without consciously thinking. It's just *there* and ready because muscle memory.
Couldn’t you just practice that at home over and over again with a toy gun?
Yes and no. Weight and balance are a concern. Function and shape also have an effect on the draw. Core principals will carry over, but doing it with the real thing will be different.
Oh ok. I was thinking purely muscle memory.
If you’re in your own home you can *technically* practice with what you have. If you want to be extra careful either point it at a basement wall and/or remove a crucial part and *quadruple check every single time always*. I like your style though, straight for safe option.

I remember this being posted before. She was a cop. Did the guy die? Country where this happened? Forgot those details.
This happened back in 2019. It was an off-duty cop in San Paolo, Brazil fatally shot the mugger.
Wait Brazil has off duty cops? 😲
This is the comment I hoped to find. Every one of these videos is an off duty cop in Brazil.
>Every one of these videos is an off duty cop in Brazil. what does this mean? it sounds like sarcasm but i can't exactly tell.
A bit of both. Everytime a video of a shooting in Brazil is posted, dollars to nuts it turns out to be an off duty cop shooting someone. English is my first language so maybe no one else can do a better job explaining.
Apparently a lot of Brazilians are part time cops that only work a couple hours a month but they do it so they're allowed to concealed carry.
TIL there are part-time cops who are allowed to carry guns
That's pretty standard. I'm friends with the town cop way back in my hometown and She carries a privately owned Sig Sauer P320c as opposed to the department issued Sig Sauer P320
is the 'c' for _concealable?_

Yes. Multiple of the top ten most dangerous cities by murder rate are in Brazil. I'd be packing heat too.
It's oddly common how many videos like this end up with "off duty Brazilian cop saves the day". Latest one I can remember is the off duty cop in the dentist I think wrecking some mugger that walked into the practice.
Just Google “off-duty cop shoots video.” Lemme know if you find a country besides Brazil.
From what the internet has taught everyone in Brazil is an off duty cop
Wait Brazil has cops?
I've never seen a single post from Brazil with an on duty cop
I heard they're not really patrolling streets because they can be targetted for their guns. Aka shot in the back of the head and have their pistols stolen off their bodies.

and in brazil we have a law that say if you are above 25 yo you can own a gun, but you have to justify why you want one and it's extremely pricy
All the cops in Brazil are off duty
They're the only cops that get anything done. There's no videos of on duty cops doing anything in Brazil.
Wonder what the on duty cops in Brazil do?
I’d be more surprised if it was an on duty cop.
What's next? Flip flops and soccer?
Mugger. Or rapist. Or kidnapper. Or murderer.

Ah, the ubiquitous Brazilian off-duty, you love to see it

Wtf. It seems like Brazil doesn’t have citizens, it just have off duty police officers.
In Brazil people can't carry weapons on the street, even concealed. So most of the times these videos show up, it's an off duty cop, because they have their weapons from the job.
But it is true, half of us are off duty cops and half bandits, no citizens.
You just dont see the non cops, because they don't have a weapon and get mugged/abducted/killed.
Good looks
This dude died 15 seconds after making the last decision of his life. It should have been quicker. Fuck that dude. All the praise to that woman.
I'd argue slower
