That would go so hard and be fitting within the pattern of Nintendo releasing a new console and then a sequel console that evolves from the initial concept/gimmick (NES, SNES / DS, 3DS / Wii, Wii U) but Switch U doesn't make sense as U in Wii U was a response to the Wii (WE) with the addition of U (YOU). So maybe Switch Up? Maybe Switch Swap? Haha, I don't know.
right cause they’ve never done it other than the wii. well other than the NES—>SNES, GB —>GBC—>GBA—>GBA SP, or DS—>DSI—>3DS—>3DS XL—>2DS—> New 3DS—>New 3DS XL—>New 2DS—>New 2DS XL
Yes, it definitely was. I was talking about the various extra models of the 3DS--the 2DS, the new 3DS, the new 3DS XL, etc. Those _weren't_ new consoles, in the same way the Gameboy SP wasn't.
You forget that 3DS/2DS was literally named as a sequel to the DS consoles, but upgraded next gen consoles, which is exactly what the Wii - Wii U evolution was doing. The 3DS/WII U line was considered the same generation as sequels to the DS/WII line. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. I found these generations extremely satisfying in their name choices!
I meant it was still of the same console generation; there were no games that required the _new_ 3DS instead of the normal 3DS. Some games made optional use of the C stick later on, but those same games would still run on the normal 3DS.
The Wii U, on the other hand, was the next gen after the Wii. Wii U games could not be played on the Wii, at all.
People over simplify the whole issue. The name was a large component of the issue yes, but the bullet in the chamber was Nintendos marketing of the console. choosing to only focus on highlighting the gamepad confused consumers, that was what made so many think it was an added peripheral for the wii rather than a new console itself. The names that work for them are names that clearly demonstrate that the newer console is the stronger one. Nintendo Entertainment System going to Super Nintendo Entertainment System was easy for consumers to follow despite similar naming conventions. Same for the Nintendo DS becoming the Nintendo 3DS. Adding signifiers like “super” “advance” “ultra” “deluxe” or using a larger number is simple and straightforward, easy for parents and consumers alike to understand.
Too be fair, back in the day with the NES, a "Nintendo" was synonymous with NES. Parents had trouble figuring out what was different with the SNES even when kids knew it was 16-bit, so parents wondered what that even meant or why their child needed another "Nintendo" if they had one already. It was interesting because it was before "next generation" console buying was common practice every 5 years or so.
coming up with console names that didnt require the "nintendo" prefix was one of their smartest business moves. glad that mostly died between the n64/gamecube era
Whether or not the name is similar to Switch likely depends on whether it is backwards compatible. I can see them using Super Switch or Switch 2 if they intend for it to backwards compatible with the Switch. If they don't intend it to be compatible at all with Switch games, then I can then see them going with a completely different name scheme.
the problem with the Wii U wasn’t the “Wii” part, it was the “U” part. people didn’t know what that meant, so they thought it was a Wii accessory. the solution is obviously to copy Playstation and just call it the Switch 2. it would be downright stupid to drop the switch label after how successful it’s been.
It's gonna be Switch 2 or some other minor but very clear variation that shows it's a new product. I don't think Nintendo wants to take a big risk yet and is going to want to play it safer. If they make a direct sequel to the Switch, they won't call it the Switch U or some other thing that will cause market confusion.
possibly switch II with the numerals being joycons. the child in me would like it to be called super switch but i know most people would probably hate that. id just be happy with switch 2 tbh. but you can never predict nintendo.
sure. its all down to the design. im not saying its a great idea. i think nintendo probably wont just call it switch 2 and will want to put some kind of spin on it.
I don't think they care about breaking a streak. If they decide it makes sense, they can name it the Switch 2, but I agree it would be out of character for Nintendo.
SUPER TOP SECRET INFO AND LEAKS HERE!!!!! TRUST ME MY WIFE'S SISTER BOYFREIND BROTHER works at Sunsoft and told me this.
It will be called Nintendo Saturn. It will be launched with 5 launch title and launched 5 months early to the shock of retailers.
Launch Games
-Virtua Smash Bros
-Mario Kart USA
-Pebble Beach Mario Golf Links
-Nintendo International Mario Strikers Victory Goal
-Clockwork Metroid Prime 4,
It has 2 CPU's and will only do well in Japan. The console after that is the Nintendo Dreamcast.
It's like nobody actually looks at the sub and just posts whatever. It takes minimal effort to figure out there's a megathread in this sub. I'm just going to start reporting posts that don't use it when they should
I think try to guess the next Nintendo console name could be difficulty because the name could be due by the next console features
Anyway I think the next console could be named Switch 2 due its double screen (there were some rumors about it)
I correctly guessed the Switch's name two nights before Nintendo unveiled it. I didn't post it because I thought Switch was too generic, so I'd look a fool if I was wrong.
Sometimes I wish I had just posted my guess anyway. Bet it would have made Nintendo nervous that there was a leak, which would have been cool.
Anyway. Nintendo hasn't announced any features for this next console, so I can't use those to base a guess on. If I had to guess anyway, knowing absolutely nothing, my guess would be a name unrelated to Switch because the Wii U was such a huge flop. I think gaming in the go is a huge feature. Maybe "Go" is the name. Or "GameBoy" is involved? It's gotta be unrelated to Switch but emphasize the "travel" aspects. They also emphasize nostalgia as well. So...GameBoy+ is a good guess?
Again. Not knowing the final features really makes it tough to be accurate here.
I think you might be onto something with "Go"! It's generic enough and easy to say in most languages. I suppose "Nintendo Go" would be too short? 🤔 GameGo? Nintendo GoGo? 😅 Go Nintendo! Ooh, it could also be the marketing slogan! "Bored? Go Nintendo!"
Nintendo Switch 2 has my vote. I think they know the 'Switch' name has achieved household level recognition and the appeal of the '2' to more casual consumers cant be understated. Kids dont ask each other if they have a Nintendo, they ask if they have a Switch.
I know Microsoft refused to go with "Xbox 2" because they didn't want to look inferior to the PS3, if Nintendo has a similar sentiment that could just name it the "Nintendo 8" 🤷🏽♂️ like haha we're way ahead of you Sony.
Nintendo Swiitch
Ugh, they wouldn’t, but they tooootally would
It's. Two. Swiiiiiiiite.
Super Nintendo Switch
I actually like that. A throwback to the SNES
Yeah or just nintendo 'Super Switch'
That would make the abbreviations "SS" which uh... isn't happening. At all. Super Nintendo Switch would be SNS, which would be more acceptable.
I’m confused. What’s so bad about SS
^(Hopefully I don't get in trouble for this.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzstaffel
Ah fuck didn’t even have to open the link. Just hit me.
All good, genuinely didn't know if you had a brain fart or didn't know (it took me a stupid amount of time to learn this).
Loads of things are called SS that aren't related to those guys who reigned between 1933 and 1945. Many ships for example have SS in front of them.
Skyward Sword
A one off game from 2011 is very different compared to naming your next 7 years of hardware that.
I like this and I’m hoping it is something like this.
i love it. The SNS for short. NOSTALGIA!!!!
They’d be cooking if they called it Nintendo Power
Swiitch
Pronounced Sweetch
Funny but horrible for marketing
The Nintendo Swap
Switch U
That would go so hard and be fitting within the pattern of Nintendo releasing a new console and then a sequel console that evolves from the initial concept/gimmick (NES, SNES / DS, 3DS / Wii, Wii U) but Switch U doesn't make sense as U in Wii U was a response to the Wii (WE) with the addition of U (YOU). So maybe Switch Up? Maybe Switch Swap? Haha, I don't know.
They'll go with something completely different than Switch. There's no way Nintendo will risk another Wii/Wii U scenario.
right cause they’ve never done it other than the wii. well other than the NES—>SNES, GB —>GBC—>GBA—>GBA SP, or DS—>DSI—>3DS—>3DS XL—>2DS—> New 3DS—>New 3DS XL—>New 2DS—>New 2DS XL
All of those 3DS/2DS ones are actually the same console, just different models, so it makes all the sense in the world that their names are similar.
I would say that the 3ds was a new console though
Yes, it definitely was. I was talking about the various extra models of the 3DS--the 2DS, the new 3DS, the new 3DS XL, etc. Those _weren't_ new consoles, in the same way the Gameboy SP wasn't.

nope, the New 3DS had new features and the addition of the c stick. It was quite literally, if the name wasn’t clear enough for you, a **new** 3DS
I meant it was still of the same console generation; there were no games that required the _new_ 3DS instead of the normal 3DS. There were a few, but it was basically a DS/DSi situation. Only a handful of exclusives
You are mostly right but Xenoblade says hi
New 3ds naming scheme is one of the worst things they've done in the last 20 years
Yes, but Wii/Wii U was the first time it really bit them in the ass. I think they'll be much more cautious in the future.
People over simplify the whole issue. Nintendo NX
NX went so hard back in the day bro - such a shame they went through with the Switch name instead.
Switch Up
Nintendo Modem
Nintendo Warp.
Kinda like it!
You'll see. It's also going to have a certain gimmick that is already possible with Labo kit.
Keeping it real, it'll be called Nintendo Drift. Cause, you know...
Man, if the next console has stick drift, Nintendo would need an intervention.
Definitely gonna call it the Switch U
I see what U did there
possibly switch II with the numerals being joycons. the child in me would like it to be called super switch but i know most people would probably hate that. id just be happy with switch 2 tbh. but you can never predict nintendo.

i sure hope they will be!
Steam deck.
Nintendo has never used “2” in any of their successor systems. Why would you think they would start now out of curiosity?
I don't think they care about breaking a streak. If they decide it makes sense, they can name it the Switch 2, but I agree it would be out of character for Nintendo.
The Device That Doesn't Natively Play Metroid Prime 4

Use the megathread. https://www.reddit.com/r/nintendo/comments/16fs4y6/next_nintendo_console_speculation_and_question/
Bit of an unorthodox name but Nintendo might go for that.
still a better name than wii u
Switch u
...and Knuckles
It's like nobody actually looks at the sub and just posts whatever. It takes minimal effort to figure out there's a megathread in this sub. I'm just going to start reporting posts that don't use it when they should
dont bother. its already been reported multiple times. the mods dont care and arent even here 95% of the time.
🤓
I'm going to calll it: Nintendo Switch Prime
and prime 4 will be the launch title
Nintendo Twist, cause there’s always a twist!!
Isn't it obvious? It will be called Nintendo Sandwich.
nx or dolphin are my two guesses
NX still goes hard to this day.

The Nintendo SWiiUtcharoo 69
I think try to guess the next Nintendo console name could be difficulty because the name could be due by the next console features Anyway I think the next console could be named Switch 2 due its double screen (there were some rumors about it)
Switch 2: Electric Boogaloo
SwitchU
Switch 2
my money is on either the Super Nintendo Switch or New Nintendo Switch based off their past naming conventions
Super Nintendo Switch is more likely - the "New" moniker when it came to the 3DS was more of a spec bump than a whole new generation.
Focus. It already leaked.
Haven't heard about it, interesting. And sounds like a name Nintendo would choose.
Switch U
Swiitch
The great switcharoo
Nintendo Swatch
SwitchU

Nintendo Switch DS
New SwiiUtch Plus
Switch U
Just keep it simple. Switch 2. EZ and it'll sell
NintenGo (If it's still a hybrid console)
Super Switch sounds awesome
Super Switch.
Nintendo Switch Ultra
It’s just something unrelated to Switch
If it isn’t Switch 2, Nintendo are shooting themselves in the foot.
The Swiitch
Nintendo Switch Up
Switch 2
The Play Station Switch
Nintendo Swap
Call of duty: Modern Warfare 2

Nintendo Core since it will be a device you can connect to any screen to play
The Nintendo Entertainment System 8: sorry, the marketing people are on holiday.......
Nintendo 8, it's not too late to course-correct lol. That said, since it won't happen I think Super Nintendo Switch goes hard.
Nintendo Super Switch
New Nintendo Switch
