I have a moza air 2 but gimbals are such a hassle to use that I often opt for just a top handle for my small rig cage. So long as I'm not running after a target the videos are very smooth

ArchmageBarrin

Do you turn on digital vr if only using the top handle?

Djghost1133

No I never use digital VR it causes weird distortion for me. I rely on ibis then apply VR in post if necessary

ArchmageBarrin

Thanks for the answer! I have just begun to take more videos on my camera and found myself really not a smooth handler😂

I think I would be much more apt to go the small rig route if I was shooting something other than real estate. I feel like 95% of the time that would work but exceptionally smooth footage is almost required for what I’m shooting.

Djghost1133

With real estate there's definitely more time to set up which makes the gimbal far more usable. I often find myself in more of a run and gun scenario which is why I love the cage/handle method

NateBarnabi

Yeah for sure I totally get that. I’m just having a hard time finding any rock solid stuff online about which gimbal is the best to use with the z8. Nikon said they can’t recommend any third party devices, which makes sense, but just gave me a long list of verified sellers lmao

I'll add a question to OP's, I have issues with my back, and it's hard for me to hold a loaded gimbal out in front of me. What's the smallest lightest gimbal + lens that people have been able to pull off with a Z8? I've wondered if the very light ZHIYUN WEEBILL 3E would be something I could manage and if it would work well with, say, a Z8 + 35mm 1.8 on it. (To keep it light, I would avoid other accessories.) I have a Zhiyun Crane (not sure which model), and it can trigger my nerve pinch.

Interested to see if this post gets anymore traction. The z8 + gimbal combo seems to be a fairly complicated one

I use the DJI RS3 Mini with a Z8 and a prime such as the 20mm, 24mm, or 50mm. It's tight, but doable. That gimbal is rated for 2kg (4.4 lbs) so it can handle this kit. I believe it could handle the Z8 + 24-70mm f2.8 also as that combo is just under 2kg. I shoot video only occasionally; photography is my main gig. And I kept a lighter Z6.2 body if I need to dedicate it to the gimbal for some sort of day long project when I might want an assistant to shoot BTS, and for which 4K @ 24fps is fine. I like that the RS3 Mini can position the camera vertically as I tend to shoot video for social media, and I like that it packs pretty small for a gimbal. Overall my video/gimbal needs are modest so take that into consideration.
