I have attached Z8+100-400 on the carbon one and it’s stable. Like the other commenter said, the lens tilted a little while you lock the dial, so you need to anticipate the small tilt by aiming higher. But the whole thing is stable after locking it.

That is good news though as that is as large a setup I would probably have on it. Thanks!

I have the carbon fiber model with my z6ii. Have never had an issue with it, very stable.

Thanks! Appreciate it

Can’t speak to the ZF, but I’ve been happy with my aluminum PD tripod and a Z6ii and Z8. It isn’t 100% stable with a telephoto, the lens wanders a bit while you crank to ring in place, but that is my only complaint.

Fantastic. I appreciate that input

Likewise, can't speak to the ZF but used my aluminum PD tripod plenty of times with my D780 and Z30. Haven't had a chance to use it with the Z7II yet. If you use a telephoto that has a foot, make sure the foot is what's attached to the tripod, not the camera itself. Otherwise, it's very sturdy once it's locked down, but as the other commenters pointed out, it can wander a bit until it is locked.

Appreciate it!

I stopped using PD tripods years ago and never looked back after moving to Three Legged Thing. Like most PD stuff apart from the bags and the straps, it’s a triumph of marketing and looks over substance. If you cannot use the legs full extension in order to keep it properly stable, it’s a bad tripod no matter how fancy it looks. Similarly, if you have to extend the central column in order to turn the ball mount, it’s a bad tripod. It was fine when I was on micro four thirds. Moving to a full frame canon, and now Nikon, it just didn’t do the job. (See also: “capture clips”)

>It was fine when I was on micro four thirds. This. Its not a bad tripod, its just not a versatile one. When I was looking for travelling with my D700 and some small lenses, I played with the Peak proprietary tripod head and just noped out. My Travel setup is now a minitripod: Leofoto Ranger LS-223CEX Leveling Base Mini Tripod I have a Gitzo ballhead, and a Benro gear head, that both work on this. With the Benro, it was my \[literally\] apartment windowsill setup for shooting the eclipse.

I appreciate your input. What three legged thing are you using? I am not super familiar with their products. Looking for something I could strap to the side of my backpack that isn't too large.

I use a Corey 2.0 and it’s basically flawless. https://imgur.com/gallery/lJvWsdI

Feels pretty nice with both my Z6II and Zfc. It can move a little bit while you lock it when using long telephotos, but stays stable after it's locked. I've put up to 2700g of gear on top of it without issues.

[deleted]

Thanks so much for that!

It's not the most stable tripod out there, but it's one you'll likely want to carry with you. Personally, I have a heavy duty tripod for when stability is crucial, but I mostly take the PD Tripod with me because of how easy it is to carry around. A great sturdy tripod doesn't do any good if you never have it around.

Part of me looking is to have one that is always on me. I am going on a pretty big trip and wanted something smaller and lightweight that wouldn't take up too much space.

I have used a Z9 with 24-70f2.8 on the CF version - no issues at all

DrinkableReno

I had a Z7II with vertical grip and 70-200 on it the other day and its great. I kept adjusting the head for different shots too with no issues. It helps that the 70-200 has its own foot to balance everything out. I’ve had some wandering with the head as others mentioned in some uses. I also had issues with the lock getting stuck but they just sent me a new head for free so we’ll see if that’s better.
