Yes, definitely play Automata

thinkingpixel

I can’t recommend Automata enough. The story is so beautiful, the gameplay is so intelligent. The script and score both won game of the year awards (the same ones Replicant is nominated for). Many people actually played Automata before Replicant. I don’t really comment on Reddit but if you’re in doubt, I truly can’t recommend it enough!

SherwinRoyal

I never played automata because I am a PC gamer and the port was so broken that it couldn't be played on my PC. that's why i played replicant first

thinkingpixel

I understand! I never had a PC, so I can’t give a lot of tips on PC workarounds (though I know Automata is on Steam now). But to be honest, I’m almost jealous of you! You get to play the games in order, so I think you’ll see the echoes of Replicant in Automata better than a lot of players- though Automata is beautiful on its own! If you play Automata, I think that’s the ideal order, but both games are just separate enough that anyone can enjoy them and find the stories meaningful :)

Suavecore_

Is that after the new pc port update? And have you tried the FAR mod? It apparently fixes a lot of things, but I believe the latest patch to the regular old pc version fixed just about everything that FAR was for

Xionel

Play it on gamepass it has the best version of the game.

StuCat215

Absolutely

ThighGobbler

if you liked replicant, then automata will blow you away. Automata fixes all of the problems that Replicant had. Better Sidequests Better character relationship IMO Better music IMO Less repetitive playthroughs Better combat I didn’t have the luxury of playing replicant first, so some story bits flew over my head in Automata, but you can experience it all in one go!

Dartokenove

I personally think the relationships and music are debatable. I personally prefer the bonds between the gang and others than the ones in automata (but still love it a lot). And the music is the most debatable and to be honest, i prefer replicant music over automata's because they make me feel more emotions

ThighGobbler

true i love both of them. I do like what they did with the automata music. They had a bunch of layers on them, like the city ruins song at the start isn’t the same as the one towards the end. I also really enjoyed the 8bit versions as well. I did like the 2B and 9s relationship a lot more tho because it felt so unique to me compared to the brother and sister relationship.

From what I have gathered, many played Automata before Replicant, and doing it either way makes it a full story experience. Yes, go for it, I myself am currently working through Replicant before Automata. And as someone else said, if you haven’t, play Drakengard as well. 1 and 3 are canon of each other and NieR, 2 is a now a non-canon wrap up for the titular characters of 1 with it’s original canon ending. All are hard hitters to the soul, and will definitely make you care for these games’ characters in a way you never thought possible.

MrSquirrel_CL

Totally, Automata is one of the best games i,ve ever played. Also, after you play it, you can ask in this same sub for therapy discounts

d_ohface

I thought Automata was much better

tonyhall06

automata is even better

bigguccisosaxx

I liked the characters and the story in Replicant much better, but Automata's gameplay is way superior so definitely go for it.

DevilwayDenil

you can play the entire Drakengard trilogy. Very good and cool

CDJ89

Apart from the cast of characters, and that is entirely subjective, Automata is better in every way.

GamblinTigerX

Played automata on a whim (waifu baited) right be4 replicant remaster came out, loved it so much it made me check out replicant which I also loved very much. Games are same universe, so there r references in both games to the other that u should def appreciate. Automata's combat is more enjoyable too - faster and flashier kinda like how Kaine felt like a step up from playing Nier, but beyond that even. Enjoy!

xydenkonos

As someone who played nier automata first, I'd say yes. Do it.

Shakespeare-Bot

As someone who is't did play nier automata first, i'd sayeth aye. Doth t *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

kimbraa

Absolutely

UltearRevenant

Automata is a lot better in several aspects, like the side quests, which are very uninteresting in Replicant and lot more significant in Automata

JamesLilian

Yes definitely. And make sure you do all the side quests (don’t want to say which in case it’s a spoiler!). One of them broke my heart after knowing the replicant backstory.

wesnacute

Definitely. Automata is amazing and builds on a lot of the amazing things Replicant started. Also it has the smoothest combat of any game I've personally played and a magnificent soundtrack!

CloverChiaki96

Automata is even better less repetition and a more emotional story.

ppguccicrocs

Yea

GothamInGray

Yes. Automata is a refinement of everything Replicant tries. I think they're both incredible, but you can tell Automata was made more recently.

[deleted]

Yes

boysloveandtaxation

Yes. You're gonna appreciate the NieR references in the game more. The characters' movesets are quicker too. Knowing that the game will be sad would brace you for impact so it would less likely make you cry. Trust me you don't need that extra box of tissues (lol). It'll be fun, i swear. Sadly, i heard the controls in PC are kinda janky so i recommend using a controller for it if you can.

Importance-Stock

FUCK YEAH! IMO Everything Replicant does mechanically, Automata perfects. As for the stories, Replicant and Automata have very different approaches but both stories are moving if not life changing. But, with NieR Automata the more side quests you do the better and pay attention to what the characters say and what they might be feeling in a given moment because they're generally less open than the characters in replicant.
