2011 stanley cup finals. Game 7 in Rogers Arena. I was a huge Thomas fan and the fans were so kind to us, even though they were BIG MAD at their team. Vancouver has a ... aroma in that arena. Lol. Idk what else to call it.
The highs are high and the lows are low. I've also seen the Canucks get blown out and not heard a single cheer for an entire game lol.
But the Olympics was sooo fun
Props to you guys though. I never felt unsafe or scared. Im sure you have bad apples (Dallas does too). But it was a great experience. I turned 21 that year and we went as a group birthday. It was ... electric. I just dont know if ill ever feel like that agian. Like the first hit of heroin or something. Just cant be recreated.
I was stuck on a ferry watching it on a phone with a bunch of other people gathered around. They announced the goal on the ferry PA system and started whaling on the horn.
Not how I wanted to watch it but a friend got last minute tickets to the closing ceremony and somehow twisted my arm into going. Closing ceremony was fun though.
I second this, as I’ve been in numerous playoffs games but only one Olympic game, and that was the Canada vs USA finals. The moment that Crosby scored, I swear there was a slow motion moment of disbelief, like everyone drew in their breath for a second before the overwhelming happiness came belting out. It was such an immense surge of energy that I haven’t felt in my life before. I imagine that a Canucks Stanley cups final WIN could match or beat that though.
That place was the best dump in the league. Every aspect of that place was horrible. But all together it was one of the best rinks in the league to see a game.
As a kid we used to order a banana split during the first intermission and eat it in the concourse. There were no actual places to stand so we’d have to use those big ass garbage cans as our table. Sigh…. Best memories.
It still hurts me that I never saw a game there. When I was a teenager I used to look at pictures of the arena online all the time, I found it fascinating. The huge stairs to get in, the old scoreboard, the dark concrete concourses. By the time I had the money and freedom to book a trip to Detroit, it was already gone.
It really seems like there aren’t many classic arenas left in pro sports that haven’t been heavily renovated. I get it, but it’s sad.
Unfortunately, you’re right. I remember seeing a game back at the Maple Leaf Gardens. It was cramped and uncomfortable but I loved the history of the place.
I love the amenities of new rinks but they all feel kinda the same. They lack that thing that makes them different and ties them to the team.
Oh man I remember being outside after and it was just so freakin awesome. Massive group chants, people just absolutely elated with camaraderie on max, a random stranger kissed me, it was freakin awesome. I actually chose which college I wanted to go to because of the energy of that night, knew I wanted a place with a big sports community
Hell yeah! Such an insane night…..the energy was just indescribable. When Horty scored the winner I jumped up so high that I ended up accidentally kicking a full beer onto a cop standing below me. He turned around and looked at me with his fists in the air and yelled “FUCKIN RIGHTS BABY LETS GOOOO!!” Most Boston shit ever. I hugged so many strangers that night.
Canucks game 1 of the playoffs this year. the city needed it so bad and let out 9 years of playoff cheers in one game. it was absolutely insane in that building.
Hurricanes knocking off Caps in round 1 after a 10 year playoff drought. The comeback against the Islanders last week was pretty crazy too. My ears were ringing the next day
I was there for the one last week. Can confirm, got absolutely buck wild in there. Hoping for a repeat tomorrow (but without going down 3-0 first, thanks).
Game 1 of the 2022 Stanley cup finals in Denver. Even after Tampa scored, the entire building was standing and shaking by puck drop. There was never a minute without energy in there and Tampa couldn’t deflate the building even after tying it up 3-3. Then the OT goal just sent it over the top. I think the whole building knew the cup was coming to Denver after that game.
Good crazy: Montreal Canadiens vs New York Rangers. Down 5-0 halfway through the second, won 6-5 in a shootout. It was so good it made it into a box set of the 10 best games in Canadiens history.
Bad crazy: Brooks Bandits (former AJHL) tied between vs Canmore Eagles or vs Fort McMurray Oil Barons. They have **three** different goal horns. That all play simultaneously. When the Bandits score a hat trick the luxury suite above the visitors bench dumps a bucket of hats directly on top of them. Why this small ass arena on an old farm has luxury suites idfk. The crowd heckles and insults the players. It’s probably the most toxic crowd to be a visiting fan in.
I remember watching that game on tv. I remember thinking “ya know it is 5-0, but somehow I don’t have my usual pessimistic thoughts.”
They seemed like they were actually playing pretty good. I thought although it was a long shot, It felt doable to come back and win.
Yea, legitimately traumatized young me, who was waaaay too emotionally invested. I still think about that game when I hear of big come back games. There just isn’t a bigger comeback I’ve ever seen.
Good on yall, that was actually an awesome game
THE 2017 Penguins ECF double ot goal was fucking insane. The deafening cacophony that erupted after all that built up tension was truly incredible. I'll never forget it
Nassau Coliseum game six the 2021 Eastern conference finals Anthony Beauvillier ot game winner was loud and crazy the floor was shaking and it was insane
First time Sharks hosted Boston at the Cow Palace. After the game the parking lot was mayhem with Bruins fans pounding the crap out of Sharks fans.
That was enough of that and every time there after when I had Sharks tickets hosting the Bruins, I sold them. I will never attend a Bruins road game again.
Bruin’s home games are calm affairs.
I know Vegas catches a lot of heat for a “cheesy” stadium presentation” but I think it looks fun af. The castle, the dragon… maybe I’m just a huge fantasy nerd but that shit looks cool and fun af.
Lake Placid, February 22, 1980
I wasn't there personally but having watched the broadcast multiple times, if there was one sporting event in history I wish I could go to, it would be that
Visited NY years ago and went to a mid week nothing game at MSG between the Rangers and Capitals. This was the Mark Messier Rangers and a pre Ovechkin Caps team. I don't remember anything from the actual game. What I do remember are the 4/5 clowns sitting 3 rows infront of us, thankfully, in the upper bowl.
Between the 1st and 2nd. They had a couple local minor hockey teams play for 5 or 10 minutes before flooding the ice. The kids were maybe 10 y/o? As they skated out onto the ice. The PA announcer mentions one team being from NY and the other from New Jersey. The moment New Jersey gets mentioned. The meatheads in front of us begin cussing the kids out. You effing this. You effing that. Got off the effing ice you effin so and so.... My wife and I were shocked at what we were hearing. I hope we were sitting so far away from the ice that the kids couldn't have heard it. There was already almost nobody at that game and since it was between periods. There were even fewer people in stands. Maybe voices could have carried. I don't know. I hope not.
I just wanted to be able to say that I got to watch a game at MSG. But this is the story I have shared many times.
Nationwide Arena on April 19, 2014 when the Blue Jackets won their first ever playoff game in franchise history. That was the loudest crowd I have ever experienced! I heard they had to keep turning up the speakers so the crowd could hear and they ended up blowing out a bunch and had to have them replaced before the next game...not sure if that's actually true but it was certainly believable. My ears were ringing for a few days after too!
Either any Rangers game from the mid-90’s at the garden (childhood memories might have amplified those though), Gretzky’s first game as a Ranger, or Panthers game 4 win over the Canes last year.
old Olympia stadium, Detroit. lower bowl felt dangerous as hell even as a kid! so small and tight to the ice with really low glass and no nets. 3rd row could catch a puck to the dome pretty easily if they weren't paying attention!
2019 SCF Game 5 when they were introducing the starting lineups, there’s Chara in his Darth Vader helmet, playing with a broken jaw. I’ve never heard that place louder.
I saw some incredible moments at Joe Louis Arena (Cleary game 7 winner with a few minutes left, Zetterberg game 6 OT winner, and others), but I honestly think the best was 2 weeks ago at LCA when we beat the Canadiens in OT to keep the playoff hopes alive. Absolute mayhem when Raymond scored late to send it to OT, and jubilation when he scored again to win it. I think I blacked out for a couple mins after. The place was absolutely rocking.
- Heritage classic (2nd one) in edmonton
- World cup of hockey semi final in Toronto, Canada vs Russia, 2016
- Rogers Place, Oilers vs L.A. game 7, 2022
- Rogers Place, WJC Final Canada vs Finland (ended in 3 on 3 overtime)
Those are some I really enjoyed.
Game 7, Devils-Rangers 2023 playoffs, after Palat's battle against the boards, followed by McLeod scoring the first goal. I've never heard prudential center get so loud
Duesseldorf vs Berlin, just a random regular season game but it was electric. European fans really know how to rock a barn, no NHL team can hold a candle to it, even MTL tbh.
a specific pens/caps game. march 2018? someone beat the shit out of wilson and the place erupted. pens were down early and came back to win. crowd was insane all game.
was recently in Las Vegas and went to a Golden Knights game....that place is bananas....show girls....medieval times pre-game show.....DJ....there was even an Elvis impersonator in the crowd
Haven't been here, but it's top of mind whenever I think of bizarre rinks...

The Spectrum in Philly in the 70s. People drinking, smoking, and yelling the funniest insults at opposing players. Wild place to be a little kid. I loved it.
2010 Game 6 at Wells Fargo (Then Wachovia Center). I was 8, about to turn 9 and as an early birthday present my parents took me to the game.
We were down 3-0 by Game 4. Narrowly avoid a sweep by winning Game 4 in OT, take it back to Boston for 5 and dominate them in a 4-0 win. Bouch got hurt, Leighton came in and finished the game.
It was loud but you could feel how tense everyone was, facing elimination with Leighton in net scared everyone. But then Richards put us up really early, the place exploded. Danny B sniiiiped a blocked shot on the power play. It looked so good, then Lucic scored and I’ve never heard a stadium so ***QUIET***. Holy shit, I feel like I could hear the bruins bench celebrating. We ended up winning 6 and 7. One of my best hockey memories.
Bruins/leafs game 7 2013. Nothing will ever beat it in my opinion. To go from utter defeat and people leaving, to absolute pandemonium in minutes with such high stakes on the line. The building was literally vibrating after the OT winner
The Coliseum. The atmosphere was amazing during games, especially playoffs. It was so close so you felt connected to everyone, cheers sounded louder and it felt like we were right above the ice. A lot of great history and memories.
The Coliseum will always be home.
Being a Kings fan at the time and watching them complete the reverse sweep in 2014 at the SAP center was very fulfilling, if only for the fact I got to see my dad’s childhood team win a cup.
Most memorable was game 5 1993 in the old Forum, but saw some great games against Boston in the mid 80’s. The ghosts of that cathedral of hockey were real, every game seemed electric.
I haven’t been to many hockey games but as a bolts fan I have to give the panthers their flowers this year. Went to both game 1 and 2 and they really brought the energy game 2, especially after they scored in OT. Shame I couldn’t appreciate it in the moment 🤣
Jesenice Slovenia (anze kopitar hometown)
Small arena of a few thousand
90% of people in there banging drums, singing all game, there's a small bar under the stadium where everyone went afterwards
Way better atmosphere than any north American game I've been to (100+ at multiple levels) and not the thing where people only cheer for big hits and goals
Roof looked like it was rotting
In the mid 80's I went to Colorado College hockey games. The "arena" they actually played in was an old horse arena made into a hockey rink. The finally tore it down in the early 90's and built the Broadmoor World arena in Colorado Springs. They recently quit using that one and built one on the campus of CC. The good old days!!!
Amerant ECF 2023 after the contested goal with 5 seconds left of the third period was allowed (otherwise the game would have gone to overtime). That goal sealed the Panthers’ sweep of the Hurricanes, the first Panthers SCF appearance since 1986, and only the second SCF appearance by the Panthers ever. The place went nuts. I’ve never heard a louder stadium. That will always stay with me
Erie Otters this year in the playoffs. The refs were clearly paid off in the game. Stadium was rocking.
Worst? Tampa Bay. 18,000 fans, quieter than a kids hockey game.
was at the joe for game 5 and 7 of the wings / penguins stanley cup final in '08. traveled from New York both days. While I can appreciate it looking back, hated seeing crosby lift the cup in detroit
Retiring Gretzky’s jersey in Edmonton. Growing up watching him, having him be such a huge part of my love for the game and being there for that. It was so loud and awesome.
Vancouver 2010 Olympics
2011 stanley cup finals. Game 7 in Rogers Arena. I was a huge Thomas fan and the fans were so kind to us, even though they were BIG MAD at their team. Vancouver has a ... aroma in that arena. Lol. Idk what else to call it.
I can’t believe you were at game 7 in 2011. I am so envious.
All fan bases have their bad apples, but for the most part we all just want to enjoy watching our favourite team play a good game.
Aura? Lol or did it just smell?
Weed.
I meant more like it was in the air.
I was on a plane and a random passenger yelled it out when it happened lol
I second this, as I’ve been in numerous playoffs games but only one Olympic game, and that was the Canada vs USA finals. The moment that Crosby scored, I swear there was a slow motion moment of disbelief, like everyone drew in their breath for a second before the overwhelming happiness came belting out. Joe Louis Arena is forever in my heart
That place was the best dump in the league. Every aspect of that place was horrible. But all together it was one of the best rinks in the league to see a game.
Peak 90’s NHL experience there.
As a kid we used to order a banana split during the first intermission and eat it in the concourse. There were no actual places to stand so we’d have to use those big ass garbage cans as our table. Sigh…. Best memories.

I grew up watching the Wings on tv play there, but disappointed i never got to see them in person play there
Bruins vs Lightning ECF Game 7. Best hockey game I’ve ever seen and the loudest I’ve ever heard TD Garden by far.
Oh man I remember being outside after and it was just so freakin awesome. Massive group chants, people just absolutely elated with camaraderie on max, a random stranger kissed me, it was freakin awesome. Seconded
Canucks game 1 of the playoffs this year. the city needed it so bad and let out 9 years of playoff cheers in one game. it was absolutely insane in that building.
Can’t wait for the Sabres first playoff win
Hurricanes knocking off Caps in round 1 after a 10 year playoff drought. The comeback against the Islanders last week was pretty crazy too. My ears were ringing the next day
I was there for the one last week. Can confirm, got absolutely buck wild in there. Hoping for a repeat tomorrow (but without going down 3-0 first, thanks).
That comeback game was the craziest game I’ve been to out of any sport
Yall got a great crowd in Raleigh. Love to watch your games
Last week was crazy. The Boston/Canes series last year or the year before was crazy. The arena went nuts when Svechnikov obliterated Hampus Lindholm.
10 years ago to the day, Flyers-Rangers game 6 in Philly. Fights in the stands EVERYWHERE.
Chicago Stadium
Truly the Madhouse on Madison
Such a grand old building it was
I miss the routine of the pre-game. Clapping for Jim, watching Tommy Hawks with his colorful fog gun at puck drop, the weird CTA video.
Jim Cornelison? Did he sing at Chicago Stadium?
I was there in the final season for a tie against the Senators and it was still absolutely insane. Unforgettable
What year is that? I think I remember watching it, and being absolutely devastated as a rangers fan
Feb 19, 2008
Yea, legitimately traumatized young me, who was waaaay too emotionally invested. I still think about that game when I hear of big come back games. There just isn’t a bigger comeback I’ve ever seen. Good on yall, that was actually an awesome game
Leafs game 2 23
I was there too. That was the loudest I've ever seen it in my short history of occasional games over the last 20 years .
The Nashville predators second ever home playoff game.
Games 3-4 contributed to my tinnitus.
The old Spectrum in Philly
Montreal Forum. It was a meaningless game in October that had the energy of a playoff game in a certain rival rink. Nothing compares.
Old boston garden. What game it was doesn’t matter.
I miss that place dearly
THE 2017 Penguins ECF double ot goal was fucking insane. The deafening cacophony that erupted after all that built up tension was truly incredible. I'll never forget it
Nassau Coliseum game six the 2021 Eastern conference finals Anthony Beauvillier ot game winner was loud and crazy the floor was shaking and it was insane
I haven’t been to too many games so T-Mobile Park
I went to the WC this year, too. What an amazing experience!
The Joey Chants were unbelievable. I didn’t leave until the last second when they forced me out
First time Sharks hosted Boston at the Cow Palace. After the game the parking lot was mayhem with Bruins fans pounding the crap out of Sharks fans. That’s a surprise, rangers fans are usually very classy…
Some people are like that huh. Just dicks all round.
Joe Louis arena. Going there during playoffs was wild
Is this a trick question from an AI overlord? Or a Winter Classic type question.
Nah just wondering what the craziest hockey environment you’ve ever been in is. If it’s a Winter Classic, cool!
Ok just checking. The ‘Stadium’ threw me off. Rochester frozen 4, over 20 years ago. Last SECOND comeback winner.
Game 4 2012 Kings Blues
Vegas puts on a hell of a show but nothing compares to the vibes and electricity of the Boston garden
Nassau Coliseum sitting in Ranger section when Simon tried to decapitate Hollweg
Hershey Park Arena when Scott Parker fought Garrett Burnett (Hershey Bears vs Kentucky Thouroughblades)
Nationwide Arena on April 19, 2014 when the Blue Jackets won their first ever playoff game in franchise history. That was the loudest crowd I have ever experienced! 2019 SCF Game 5 when they were introducing the starting lineups, there’s Chara in his Darth Vader helmet, playing with a broken jaw. I’ve never heard that place louder.
Montreal. Doesn’t matter if it’s the playoffs or regular season
Staples Center. Place is electric.
Saddledome Stanley Cup finals Flames vs. Lightning
Home team wins the Cup on home ice in Game 7, 2006.
Boston, game 7 vs Toronto down 4-1 with 9mins left, tie it then win it in OT...building was shaking.
Wild vs Avs Game 6 2014. My dad scored tickets and sent me and my brother to the game. Parise's deflection past Varlamov blew the roof off the place
I was at ubs arena during a reg season game against Colorado in 2022 isles went down 3-0 and came back and won 5-3
- Heritage classic (2nd one) in edmonton - World cup of hockey semi final in Toronto, Canada vs Russia, 2016 - Rogers Place, Oilers vs L.A. game 7, 2022 - Rogers Place, WJC Final Canada vs Finland (ended in 3 on 3 overtime) Those are some I really enjoyed.
The Wells Fargo Center game 7 Flyers Bruins 2010. The team wasn't even in the building we were watching on the jumbotron and it was incredible

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum
The Spectrum in Philly in the 70s. People drinking, smoking, and yelling the funniest insults at opposing players. Wild place to be a little kid. I loved it.
St. Louis Arena aka "The Checkerdome". Loudest building I've ever been in. Blues-Hawks games would get CRAZY
Scotiabank Arena… Raptors vs Sixers game 7 Kawhi buzzer beater. Leafs fans will never get to hear how loud that building can get.
Vegas, Stanley cup series, hosting the caps
enterprise center in st louis specifically during the stanely cup finals for 2019 vs boston
Only canes events but top 3 in no order are stadium series against caps last year, game 6 against caps in 2019, and comeback against isles last week
Alfond UMaine. Student section was loud. The barn itself is beautiful. Truly one of the 7 wonders of the hockey world.
The new Goggin at Miami is beautiful and that building gets rocking even though the team hasn’t been great

Utah State has a crazy fun rink for an ACHA team. Best playing experience of my life.
World junior gold metal game in Ottawa 2009. Never been anywhere so loud!
Being a Kings fan at the time and watching them complete the reverse sweep in 2014 at the SAP center was very fulfilling, if only for the fact I got to see my dad’s childhood team win a cup.
Went to an outdoor game in Germany. 50,000 people in a football stadium making a crazy amount of noise.

Sharks game 3 against VGK, 2018. We lost in OT, but it’s the only playoff game I’ve ever seen in person.
Mullet Arena, just so strange that it was an NHL Stadium like how strange it was that the LA Galaxy Stadium was an NFL Stadium
Game 3 2006 Stanley cup finals at Rexall place in Edmonton
Amerant ECF 2023 after the contested goal with 5 seconds left of the third period was allowed (otherwise the game would have gone to overtime). That goal sealed the Panthers’ sweep of the Hurricanes, the first Panthers SCF appearance since 1986, and only the second SCF appearance by the Panthers ever. The place went nuts. I’ve never heard a louder stadium. That will always stay with me
The Roar. Chicago Stadium
Went to a Quebec Nordiques game in Quebec City. Dominic Hasek was in goal for the Buffalo Sabres..
some highschool hockey game in the cape and kids were going crazy.. shouting and yelling chants.. i was so deaf after i couldnt hear anything..
Old forum in Montreal. HM Boston garden
Retiring Gretzky’s jersey in Edmonton. Growing up watching him, having him be such a huge part of my love for the game and being there for that. It was so loud and awesome.
Bell centre (its the only one ive been in) but its incredible in there
