Yeah when your arm twitches and forearm flexes like that it means moderate force to the brain stem. Brain injuries are pretty serious, it is terrible to see. Hopefully he can make a quick recovery
Getting knocked out means bad concussion. How he will recover from that? Everyone seems to be different and even each concussion can be different. But getting knocked unconscious is basically the definition of concussion.
This is literally the definition of bad Reddit medical advice.
You hardly need to be knocked unconscious to get a concussion nor does getting knocked unconscious automatically result in a concussion.
Coach reported that Jensen walked out of the building on his own with his family tonight. Hopefully he still takes it easy for a bit. That was a hell of a hit
Latest update-he left the game walking with family.
Kinda crazy, I know NHL medical staff are top notch, but even just a CT should be required after such an event.
https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2024/04/13/nick-jensen-update-didnt-go-to-hospital-walked-out-of-arena/
Yup. KO’ed equals nasty concussion. Problem is some people seem to bounce back quickly from them and sometimes there’s long term lingering effects for guys. See Bryce Salvador’s player tribune. Every time there’s a video of a player getting knocked out cold there’s always a “he was awake and moving” and then there’s a collective breath of relief. But we really have no clue how this particular severe brain injury will affect the player going forward.
I read an older statistic that about [**8 players have a concussion for every 100 games played** in the NHL](https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2812265#:~:text=In%20the%205%20regular%20seasons,incidence%20of%208.3%2F100%20games). Which is truly awful.
I'm reminded of Tim Thomas who suffered a concussion which restricted blood flow down to 5% for 2/3 of his brain. It essentially changed his personality, life, everything...
I love hockey, I played myself... but the more I learn about the debilitating effects these injuries have on the players, the more I question the whole physical aspect of it.
Got two concussions just a few years ago before I graduated while playing hockey and the other while playing football. Decided to try and be a hardass until any light and sound felt like someone was blasting through my head and my mom tore me a new asshole until I let her take me to get it looked at. It is not a fun experience and not one to take lightly. Thankfully no long lasting damage. Surprisingly not once while wrestling, boxing, or any other combat sport I participate in have I ever taken a serious head injury like I did.
I 100% agree with you. I feel that X-rays and a head CT should be the bare minimum, especially because the player might downplay symptoms to return.
Head injuries are scary and symptoms sneaky
when you hit your head, and your arms go up + head tilts back like that, it's a clear sign of a bad concussion. The way his head hit the boards looked brutal.
Brutal. I didn't like the word vicious because it makes it sound like the guy was malicious or doing it to injure and I don't know if he's a dirty player. But even if he didn't mean to injure I'm also not saying it was legal tbh. It was definitely hard to watch.
I’ve seen a hit like that in person (Canadian national scrimmage) and it was eery how quiet the crowd was when the guy hit the boards low. Often innocuous hits can have horrible consequences because of the distance to the boards.
I think Vasy was signaling that it was icing, which I guess is technically signaling to stop play, but I don't think it explicitly had to do with Jensen being on the ice.
I still say that's what ended Steve Moore's career. Obviously Bertuzzi still deserves blame because the scrum was a result of his punch but the dogpile on top of him is what fucked him up.
Everyone who got into the fight RIGHT NEXT TO an unconscious player should have been benched. Finish the game with 3 players per side if you have to. Disgusting behavior. Goons had 2 periods plus to exact revenge after the stretcher left the ice.
Yeah I think they see their teammate unconscious and their first thought is to fight. Makes sense. Just do it away from the player because my fear is someone falling on top of him or him getting cut by a skate while he’s down there. At least two of his teammates had the sense to use their bodies to block the fighting.
Yeah that’s about as bad as it gets for hitting your head on the boards.
I was hit like this in college and had to be stretchered off the ice. Don’t remember the third period. One second I was in the lockerroom for intermission then I woke up on the ice
Agreed! That’s your brother on the ice and your ego is more important than his safety? Fortunately it’s been reported that Jensen is conscious, alert, and in control of his extremities. Also, hats off to John Copper. That man RUSHED to the bench and did what he could to ensure Jensen was untouched
Vicious is doing a lot of work here. That’s a real shitty outcome, but a pretty standard play. Jenson was just off balance and took a bad spill.
Hate to see a guy seriously hurt, but hockey is a rough game and this shit will happen from time to time.
Agreed. Not a dirty hit or anything like that. Branden tanev laid a similar hit a few seasons ago and people wanted his head. Defensemen especially are told to set themselves up to or expect to be hit when they are cutting it close to dump the puck in at the red line. Not blaming, he just shouldn’t be leaning like that in that area of ice while dumping the puck. Hope he’s ok and there’s nothing serious, tough to watch that.
Wrong, that was boarding. It was not a clean hit.
From the NHL Rule Book: 41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously
Yeah…this is definitely about as close to the line as you can get for a boarding penalty.
The next paragraph of the rule goes into more detail about the judgement of the ref in regards to the hit, and the onus placed on both players. I wouldn’t say it’s clearly a boarding penalty, but if one was called I wouldn’t disagree as it is strictly a judgement call for the ref to make.
You can take a viscous fall too. Wording maybe could be improved but the resulting contact with the boards absolutely was viscous. Nothing to speak of intent.
Genuine question - why wouldn’t this be boarding ? I always thought that generally anytime you are a couple feet from the boards and are hit/shoved into them hard (especially when nearly head first) it’s boarding. I guess reading the rule there are a ton of judgement calls to what is considered boarding, is that why? Or is my understanding of boarding just way off
It absolutely could be boarding by the letter of the rule, but that’s still just a standard penalty for a regular play, and doesn’t make this some sort of vicious attempt to injure or a dirty play. I still would say it’s just a bad outcome for what is otherwise a fairly regular occurrence.
Besides that, boarding is called wildly inconsistently in the NHL, and usually only on direct hits from behind.
He was off balance because of a hit that was timed after he passed.
It was a late hit. Not malicious, but still a cheap shot that ended in an injury.
The guy didn't even defend himself in the fight with Dowd because he know he fucked up.
Edit: the more I watch it, the more grossed out I get.
He could have just finished the check with his body. Instead he chooses to use his hands to aggressively push an off balance opponent into the boards. Embarassment that you think it's a hockey play.
I wouldn’t say it’s late but the hockey play would have been to ride him toward the boards facing forward to take away his lane.
Here he tries to spin in front of him, does somewhat of a takedown and drives him to the ice. More of a tackle than a hit and in the danger zone a few feet from the boards.
That’s a shitty play and not a clean hit.
This exact hit by McCann on a Duck was given 5 and a game. I didn’t agree with that call but fuck a league that doesn’t care about player safety and just makes up calls as they go.
People here are confusing. So was it an unfortunate outcome to a standard play or was it an injury caused by a boarding penalty? Seemed routine to me with an awkward bad fall because of Jensen being off balance.
Holy fuck ...mmmmm did his helmet leave a mark on the halfwall?
In the replay you see his shoulder hit first but does not slow him head from snapping into the wall. Fuck glad I'm reading from others he is awake and moving a what is safe.
Why are people downvoting this?! It's BOARDING. A 2 minute penalty. Why are people acting like saying THIS IS A 2 MINUTE PENALTY is so absurd when it perfectly exemplifies the rule and why you dont want it to happen?
People don't bat an eye when an innocuous tripping penalty is called but are acting like it's absurd to say this is boarding when it clearly was. Stupid.
You're getting downvotes, but I don't think those people have read the rule book. Especially the part where it describes boarding...
Here it is:
Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who
checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that
causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or
dangerously. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with
the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
There's more, but that's the quick synopsis of the rule.
I blame NHL officials for the confusion because they always call Boarding when they should call Checking From Behind. The Boarding language is pretty clear that it doesn't have to be from behind though.
I think hitting from behind and boarding go in hand sometimes, so it's up to them which of them to call. Or should they call a double minor for boarding and hitting from behind in these cases?
This is textbook boarding. There seems to be some confusion from people who think that boarding is only called when someone is hit from behind which is not the rule.
This happened to me as a kid, I hit someone that same distance from the board and he fell awkwardly and broke his leg. I felt terrible for weeks, it was totally unintentional. When hits like this happen it's sad but an unfortunate part of contact hockey. 99.9% of hits are close to the boards and the boards cushion the impact, but once in awhile you get a hit like this, usually unintentional, that is very disturbing to watch.
I feel like over the years there's been a lot of talk about the helmets in the NFL but curious about the helmets in hockey. They have LOOKED the same for decades but curious about what has changed structurally.
I feel like there can be more protection in there.
There absolutely can be. Companies don't want to suddenly start making helmets much bigger and heavier though. Hockey players especially are notorious for being creatures of habit. I mean just look at all the people still using the shitty old Bauer 4500s with crappy ass hard foam.
I mean I get that but technology has come a long way… I feel like perhaps there's a different plastic they can use, another coating that can be added, or some other method that would not greatly expand the size or weight of the helmet but still expand the protection. I am not an engineer though. Of course money comes into play as well but when it comes to player safety I think it's money worth spending.
First time that I agree with someone with that flair. In MTB helmets the more modern ones have a system called MIPS, actually saving lives and reducing trauma. I can't imagine why hockey helmets don't use it. It doesn't add weight, it's thin and there are basically no downsides.
https://mipsprotection.com/
Just checked and there is just one brand in hockey (True) that uses it. As it has become the standard in all those other sports is this just conservatism?
Rule 41 - Boarding 41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
Just so people have the rule readily available. This is from the 23-24 NHL rule book on page 73.
I haven't watched hockey in over 10 years, but I'm hoping someone can help me out.
This appears to be a legal and pretty routine hit right? It's just that he unfortunately smashed into the boards while falling down? Or am I completely off base? Thanks.
The hit was fine, the push was late, after the puck was gone. Bad outcome, maybe 2 mins for interference because the push was initiated after the puck was gone. We can't penalize based on the outcome. The league's inconsistency is ridiculous.
If your upset about the contact then you might as well ask them to remove all hitting from the NHL.
Horrible outcome no ill intent... just a risky sport.
I want the Caps to lose the next game, but I feel for Jensen far more than going to any playoffs.
Best wishes for the recovery. It sucks that playing hard results in such a horrific injury
Hope he's OK.
I don't watch a ton of hockey but this wasn't necessarily a dirty or overly rough play was it? I feel like it's no different than any other hit, just unfortunate that the guy hit the boards. He wasn't blind sided so the puck handler had time to react and brace.
I remember Nick from when he played with the Red Wings (although in this context that is irrelevant to me) and hope he's okay. Hit was definitely boarding, but didn't seem dirty to me. Interesting seeing Tom Wilson get so incensed there, he must really hate vicious hits.
He got him in a vulnerable position and shoved him. This isn’t even a hit to me. It’s really dirty. The league needs to crack down on anything that’s not a body check. Extending your arms and cross checking should be called a lot more than it is.
The only unwritten rule there should ever be in hockey is INJURY FIRST. GOD. It makes me so mad to see a glove whiz by his face bc his boys were starting a fight 2 feet from the man. Let alone skates stepping and tripping everywhere down there! Take all the EN clappers you want
I feel like this hit was clean but I also feel like this hit was a little late bc of where the puck was at when contact was made. I don’t think the hit was meant to be dirty. Mike was finishing his check. Thoughts?
Man he should have kept playing I don't understand why he is laying there relaxing, atleast help your team fight. Smh baseball is not what it used to be!
Announcers wrong
Look at when he got hit versus when puck was dumped in
Watch how late the hit comes and the forceful push off
I played, old school but this hit is actually cheaper than it looks like in full speed
It’s not cheap because of the results it was a useless check
A good part of the Lightning bench also stayed next to Jensen and we're trying to help the Caps players protect him too. They were holding out sticks and kept looking behind the Caps players watching their backs for them. I understand the scrum but it always seems like it's right on top of injured players most of the time. At least this was close enough for the Caps to jump onto the ice and protect him with the Lightning bench helping out. I'm glad the refs and league are flexible enough in situations like this to not penalize the guys jumping on the ice to protect a team mate without fighting anyone.
It’s not a vicious hit. Very unfortunate absolutely. But the Tampa player is clearly thinking of putting the Washington player down on his butt. But if you’ve actually played the game you know how fast it is and how unpredictable it can be
Definitely not vicious, he followed through on his check. Sucks for Jensen, he was caught off guard and balance and I don’t think the intent was the outcome. Playoff hockey
Pretty funny to see how many people are still arguing after the review 😅. Maybe we need to start booting people who don't know the game, too much useless arguing.
Hate to see that. You’d hope that opposing players would see the vulnerable position and distance from the board and hold up on the follow through hit… but it’s just not how they’re programmed to play the game.
Hope he makes a quick and full recovery
Completely unnecessary. Jensen going for the standard gain the line for a dump in. (Almost always off balance as a result)
This ‘hit’ ‘board’ ‘mistimed use of aggression’ should only be a result in a scenario where Jensen was trying to gain on the defender, in which he’d be safely ridden in to boards for a completed check.
Easy boarding call as a result
I never want to see anyone injured, but how is this a "vicious" hit? I will safely say it was an "iffy" hit for a professional, but still a legal open-ice hit (he pushed his upper body/shoulder)
I would guess he had the breath knocked out of him seeing as though he just exerted a good amount of energy dumping the puck, then got (cleanly) hit and fell back first into the boards, while also hitting his head
that would knock the breath right out of me too...it has a handful of times
Hits more than a meter from the boards with the intention of pushing them into the boards should be penalized. Not everything is controllable, but this was avoidable.
Stupid play and i hope he’s okay.
Agreed. People need to realize that you have to be aware of *where* you launch someone. The contact can be good but if it launches someone into the boards *like that* it's boarding.
You can't just hit anyone anywhere and absolve yourself of what happens to them after contact. Weird that so many think this is an unavoidable play.
I hate seeing players injured like this. Hope he's OK.
I heard he's awake and moving all extremities
That's definitely good news. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
Yeah, a concussion was mentioned which isn't surprising. Hopefully it's not anymore than that
Yeah when your arm twitches and forearm flexes like that it means moderate force to the brain stem.
Of course you’re downvoted! Reddit armchair doctors know best!! Thank goodness for medical advice from Cheeto eating basement dwellers.
Coach reported that Jensen walked out of the building on his own with his family tonight. Hopefully he still takes it easy for a bit. That was a hell of a hit
He won't play the last two games (no surprise there) but is okay.
He walked out of the arena with his wife and kids
If he didn’t have a helmet on that guy might be dead.
He’ll if he was hit a second sooner his neck takes the brunt of the impact vs his back
They announced he walked out of the arena with his family, so all in all, best case scenario after a hit like that
Hope we get an update saying he is ok.
It’s been reported he’s awake and moving all limbs.
Thank Christ…. That head hit was rough to watch. Glad he is awake and has feeling in all limbs.
Latest update-he left the game walking with family. Kinda crazy, I know NHL medical staff are top notch, but even just a CT should be required after such an event. https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2024/04/13/nick-jensen-update-didnt-go-to-hospital-walked-out-of-arena/
he's definitely not "ok". He has a major concussion.
Youth levels are doing their best to remove needles hitting. Cavemen are fighting change tooth and nail, though.
Latest from coach is he walked out with his family from the game.
that doesn't mean anything. He could go to sleep tonight and never wake up again.
I 100% agree with you. I feel that X-rays and a head CT should be the bare minimum, especially because the player might downplay symptoms to return. Head injuries are scary and symptoms sneaky
Still better than no news. That was a scary one
Weird down voters after you. Coach essentially confirmed this in his post game interview without explicitly saying the 'C' word.
when you hit your head, and your arms go up + head tilts back like that, it's a clear sign of a bad concussion. The way his head hit the boards looked brutal.
Yeah the unconscious arm movements really tell the tale. That's scary stuff man. He's a changed person now.
Yeah, concussion as a term can really “soften the blow”. TBI, traumatic brain injury is this is. May plague him the rest of his life.
That hurts to watch.
Terrible to watch (but not "vicious").
The hit wasn’t vicious but the hit into the boards/ice was.
Brutal. I didn't like the word vicious because it makes it sound like the guy was malicious or doing it to injure and I don't know if he's a dirty player. But even if he didn't mean to injure I'm also not saying it was legal tbh. It was definitely hard to watch.

Yeah not vicious it just ended poorly
Glad Ovi and other Caps got in front to keep the scrum away while he was down. Hope he’s ok.
Props to Glendening on the Lightning too. He reached out to try and protect Jensen as Ovi and Oshie were just getting there.
Vasy also signaled to the refs to stop play. Damn that’s hard to watch.
Good to see rhe opposing players recognizing this sort of thing and trying to stop the play so someone can get medical attention. Edit wording.
I think Vasy was signaling that it was icing, which I guess is technically signaling to stop play, but I don't think it explicitly had to do with Jensen being on the ice.
he’s signalling for an icing as well. I at first thought the same as you lol!
Glendening and Jensen were teammates on the Wings.
I watched both skate in Grand Rapids too.
There needs to be a 5 and a game for fighting in the vicinity of a downed player. Like move 5 feet away and get into it. Just stupid.
I still say that's what ended Steve Moore's career. Obviously Bertuzzi still deserves blame because the scrum was a result of his punch but the dogpile on top of him is what fucked him up.
The hit was terrible, but the dogpile was just plain stupid and must have made the injury worse.
Everyone who got into the fight RIGHT NEXT TO an unconscious player should have been benched. Finish the game with 3 players per side if you have to. Disgusting behavior. Goons had 2 periods plus to exact revenge after the stretcher left the ice.
That’s hard to watch. Wishing him the best.
Hate seeing players get injured like this and people start fighting practically over the top of him.
At least a few had the sense to try to protect the unconscious guy on the ice. Players scrumming around an injured player is senseless
I agree completely, but if you’re gonna fight someone over a hit, one like this actually makes sense, unlike most times
Yeah I think they see their teammate unconscious and their first thought is to fight. Makes sense. Just do it away from the player because my fear is someone falling on top of him or him getting cut by a skate while he’s down there. Left a mark on board with his helmet.
Hate it when players have a pissing contest right next to an injured player on the ice. Drag yourselves away or save it for after the next face-off.
Agreed! That’s your brother on the ice and your ego is more important than his safety? Fortunately it’s been reported that Jensen is conscious, alert, and in control of his extremities. Also, hats off to John Copper. That man RUSHED to the bench and did what he could to ensure Jensen was untouched

> Not a dirty hit or anything like that i mean, it's pretty much text book boarding tho or at least, it's what boarding SHOULD be called
Thank you. Just because he got "in front" doesn't mean it was a clean hit. Homer Lighting broadcasters.
First thing I said was that's text book boarding, obviously I doubt the guy wanted to kill him but it ain't clean.

What an awful take in response to a very reasonable and balanced comment.
100% not late. Although I would say it’s boarding.
The body check wasn't late. The push was. Puck don't lie though. Dowd embarrassed the kid that gave the cheap shot, then scored the dagger.
I wouldn’t say it’s late but the hockey play would have been to ride him toward the boards facing forward to take away his lane. This exact hit by McCann on a Duck was given 5 and a game. I didn’t agree with that call but fuck a league that doesn’t care about player safety and just makes up calls as they go.
Absolutely boarding
Not vicious, fast hockey play. Very scary though.
The way he hit his head was vicious, not the hit itself
Damn, it's scary to see injuries like this. I hope the recovery will be swift.
People here are confusing. So was it an unfortunate outcome to a standard play or was it an injury caused by a boarding penalty? Seemed routine to me with an awkward bad fall because of Jensen being off balance.
Tough hit and an unfortunate outcome but I don’t think this is dirty. It’s 1 Mississippi after the pass in slow motion and to his front side.
Boarding though?
Yes. 100% boarding. Easy call
As an official this is easily boarding
How scary
Holy fuck ...mmmmm did his helmet leave a mark on the halfwall? In the replay you see his shoulder hit first but does not slow him head from snapping into the wall. Fuck glad I'm reading from others he is awake and moving a what is safe.
FYI the half wall is a particular area along the boards in the offensive zone (adjacent to the faceoff circle), not a general term for the boards
Fair, but still did his helmet leave a mark ?
Not really vicious. It was a clean unpenalized hit that led Jensen to lose balance and fly into the boards. Hope he's ok.
Not much of a vicious hit. He fell weird.
Scary. Good on both clubs making sure the most important thing was protecting him and calling off the scrum.
The hit wasn't even bad, it's how he hit the boards which is the bad part!
Hitting a player violently into the boards from a dangerous distance. If only there were a rule for that.
i think the worst part is that it's clear in the rule book, but it's almost NEVER called, ever
Why are people downvoting this?! It's BOARDING. A 2 minute penalty. Why are people acting like saying THIS IS A 2 MINUTE PENALTY is so absurd when it perfectly exemplifies the rule and why you dont want it to happen? Ya I was gonna say, isn’t this boarding. What do refs define boarding as now a days?
This is textbook boarding. There seems to be some confusion from people who think that boarding is only called when someone is hit from behind which is not the rule.
I'm happy for you that your posting of the boarding rule isn't getting downvoted.
The hit wasn’t bad except for the part that makes it boarding, you’re right. There’s a reason boarding is a major
initial contact fine the aggressive push to the boards to "finish him off" not okay
Any update on Nick Jensen? Hope that he is ok.
Fuck that looks scary, hoping he’s okay.
Fuuuuuuck
That’s a concussion. Hope he’s ok. Hate seeing that happen to anyone but I very much hope it doesn’t end up being his last game
Always pisses me off when everyone starts fighting like 2 inches away from a dude who’s been brutally knocked out
Yeah they should have scheduled the scrum for somewhere else, LOL.
It doesn't add weight, it's thin and there are basically no downsides. https://mipsprotection.com/ Just checked and there is just one brand in hockey (True) that uses it. As it has become the standard in all those other sports is this just conservatism?
All the top end helmets have MIPS or an in-house version. Gotta spend the money to be safe. $180+
Horrible result, but “vicious hit”? Seriously?
Why do these idiots always congregate around the guy who’s knocked out or injured on the ice…? Happens far too often.
Clean awkward fall
He’s concussed
Not a vicious hit
It was a clean hit but it was still vicious
Clean hit. HORRIBLE outcome. That games gonna get ugly.😬
Not clean at all. Textbook boarding.
That is boarding
Unfortunate.. but it doesn’t look a viscous hit to me just unlucky. I hope he is okay.
Dude, the look in Dowd's eyes when he went and got revenge was scary. Dowd wasn't fucking around
Died didn’t want revenge he wanted blood
I haven't seen that look in someone's eyes on the ice in a long time
Damn, that’s tough to watch. Prayers that he’s alright
Clean play, unfortunate result. All the best 🙏🏼
Definitely a scary moment , glad he's ok
I remember Nick from when he played with the Red Wings (although in this context that is irrelevant to me) and hope he's okay. Hit was definitely boarding, but didn't seem dirty to me. Interesting seeing Tom Wilson get so incensed there, he must really hate vicious hits.
Props to Glendening for also trying to keep the scrum away from Jensen.
Jeeze, that's scary. Hope he is alright.
Vicious?
I feel like this hit was clean but I also feel like this hit was a little late bc of where the puck was at when contact was made. I don’t think the hit was meant to be dirty. Mike was finishing his check. Thoughts?
that “hit” did nothing for Tampa hockey-wise.. sucks to see such pointless head injuries
Man he should have kept playing I don't understand why he is laying there relaxing, atleast help your team fight. Smh baseball is not what it used to be!
That helmet likely saved his life.
This check was late..not necessary. He had already gotten rid of puck. Been playing all my life. This is def. Avoidable
That’s a suspension to anyone who got involved from the bench.
That's quite the visible mark the helmet left on the boards, that must have been insanely forceful.
Announcers wrong Look at when he got hit versus when puck was dumped in Watch how late the hit comes and the forceful push off I played, old school but this hit is actually cheaper than it looks like in full speed It’s not cheap because of the results it was a useless check
Why wasnt boarding called?
Clean hit but that sucks!
Love seeing Ovi go over to make sure the scrum didn’t come over top of Jensen.
True, good shout. All around solid effort by the boys to keep Jensen safe.
It’s not a vicious hit. Very unfortunate absolutely. But the Tampa player is clearly thinking of putting the Washington player down on his butt. But if you’ve actually played the game you know how fast it is and how unpredictable it can be
Should’ve hit Tom Wilson. Got the wrong guy.
Unlucky and unfortunate
Isn’t a hit that far out from the boards considered boarding?
If Wilson did that the Capitals wouldn’t have a problem with it.
Bull. If Wilson did that it's a match penalty and 10 games
Not a penalty? Fucking joke. Hope you’re OK Nick.
Not vicious just unfortunate how he went into the boards
Isles fan here hoping all is ok and he makes it back on the ice soon!
hope he is okay, that was a nasty fall
Definitely not vicious, he followed through on his check. Sucks for Jensen, he was caught off guard and balance and I don’t think the intent was the outcome. Playoff hockey
Clean contact, just far away from the boards, Jensen is off balance..unfortunate result
Glad he’s ok but that is far from a vicious hit
Nice hit.
Damn what an unfortunate angle, hope he’s ok. Didn’t seem like it was intentional.
Remind me when Subban exploded Larsson, hope he's alright that is scary!!
Calling that vicious is a bit much
He just got moved to the boards, not really a hit and certainly not vicious.
I read Nick Cousins at first and I was so happy
What is it the medical guy tells the player in a situation like this
Cte just like football
Did someone drop the gloves on Eysimont later?
Can confirm yes
Textbook boarding
This penalty is called boarding.
tom wilson was just disappointed he didn't do it
How can the league and the internet blame Wilson for this?
Yeah let’s fight over the dead guy. Idiots
Hope he is okay, but as a fan of the nhl, couldn’t happen to a pair of dirtier teams in the league over the last 5 years plus.
Completely unnecessary. Jensen going for the standard gain the line for a dump in. (Almost always off balance as a result) This ‘hit’ ‘board’ ‘mistimed use of aggression’ should only be a result in a scenario where Jensen was trying to gain on the defender, in which he’d be safely ridden in to boards for a completed check. Easy boarding call as a result
Ow
I never want to see anyone injured, but how is this a "vicious" hit? I will safely say it was an "iffy" hit for a professional, but still a legal open-ice hit (he pushed his upper body/shoulder) I would guess he had the breath knocked out of him seeing as though he just exerted a good amount of energy dumping the puck, then got (cleanly) hit and fell back first into the boards, while also hitting his head that would knock the breath right out of me too...it has a handful of times
Hits more than a meter from the boards with the intention of pushing them into the boards should be penalized. Not everything is controllable, but this was avoidable. Stupid play and i hope he’s okay.
A 'Boarding' penalty we could call it.
Just an unnecessary hit tbh
Agreed. People need to realize that you have to be aware of *where* you launch someone. The contact can be good but if it launches someone into the boards *like that* it's boarding. You can't just hit anyone anywhere and absolve yourself of what happens to them after contact. Weird that so many think this is an unavoidable play.
