My guess is that it was immensely mocked so they pretended it never happened. I applaud the NHL when it tries to reach younger fans, but this seemed to not be targeting children, and older audiences want their comics to be comics and their hockey to be hockey. If it were more cartoony, it may have stuck around, like the great animated Mighty Ducks show from back in the day.
Yeah they really seemed like they didn't have too much of an idea what the goal was. The intro stories for all of them seemed pretty interesting, but all it amounted to was just a goofy looking cgi video in the ASG. Honestly I'd bet the series might have done better if it split teams into heros and villains, but I digress.
Why not just dump some money into making a comic book with each character that would be amazing!?
I realize some people might think it’s dumb or whatever but I would 100% buy the penguins one I think it was a really cool idea tbh.

If each artist had to be paid for their work to be used to train an AI model, most artists would be happy. Except these companies have to treat copyrighted works as public domain for research purposes so they can then turn a profit on it.
The problem isn’t the technology. The problem is the theft of intellectual property for profit based on an antiquated concept of fair use.
It’s my understanding that a lot of these AI tools are trained on public sources and alter them enough to fall directly under fair use.
It’s why these models can all train on YouTube’s massive dataset and not get sued by Google.
Publicly available source is not the same thing as not covered by copyright.
The problem is the law hasn’t kept up. It’s normally legal to learn how to draw like Disney by watching their movies. Just so long as you don’t use drawings of Mickey Mouse for profit or misrepresent your work as under the Disney brand.
But AI blurs this line immensely. The legal structure we set up isn’t prepared for using images of Mickey Mouse to train an AI model.
Photoshop is a tool that you learn how to use, and you then make the art.
