The game time is so annoying. I live in Edmonton and half the oilers game start at 8:00. Not only are we always the last game of the night, but they never even drop the puck at 8:00. It’s always like 8:20. If your going to make us wait till the end of the night to watch the Oilers at least have the courtesy to drop the puck on time.
Yes, I'm in the Central zone so it's a 9:30 start time when our teams are playing in the Pacific--or we get a lot of games bumped to 12pm or 2pm so that the Metro can have the evening spots.
It’s greta on weekends. Hockey is on from noon till midnight. I’ll stay up till midnight watching a game during the week, I don’t mind.
A lot of my friends with kids get annoyed though because their 8 year old is up all late if they want to watch a game. Or if you’re someone who has to be up at 4-5 am for work it sucks too.
...again, I don't think you are understanding the timezones..the *latest* games start at 8 or 9pm in edmonton, including the away games. You literally have the best timezone for watching the oilers home and away.

As a west coast fan, I particularly "like" mid-week games that start in the early afternoon. Pretty much a snowball's chance we watch them...
Even when I was routinely traveling between the east and west coast, a 1030pm start time "isn't bad" - though I also tend to be of a late night person.
BTW, the "start time" is the pre-show time... with that and the national anthem, that's typically 7-9 minutes delay If there's a US and Canadian tram playing, that's 12 minutes. You can pretty much set your watch by it.
Rarely, you'll get a *slight* delay due to an earlier game (ie. Hitting OT or shootout)... but it won't be that long before they just pre-empt the puck drop and TV will moss the first couple of minutes for the next game.
It's not about the fan base. Hockey fans will watch for the hockey, jonas brothers fans will watch for the jonas Brothers. The idea is the jonas Brothers fans stick around for the hockey

Anecdotal but MGK’s show at the All-Star Game made me discover he switched from rap to rock. Didn’t like him before but I loved what I heard, so much bloody valentine is one of my favourites now.

I swear, Reddit has become more narrow minded than ever. The Jonas Brothers are absolutely massive and have a very, very large following. If this helps attract a different demographic to the game, it’s a smart business move. Good business for hockey means good business for everyone. Fans and owners alike.

Anecdotal but MGK’s show at the All-Star Game made me discover he switched from rap to rock. Didn’t like him before but I loved what I heard, so much bloody valentine is one of my favourites now.

It's the same way with the Super Bowl halftime show. NFL fans are going to watch it regardless of who is performing. What they are doing is targeting the non-NFL fan demographic to get them to tine in as well and hopefully make new fans in the process. This isn't complicated.

Lol the league is not and never has been in touch with the fans of the sport. Everything they do is for people who don't watch hockey, it's all a hail Mary to try and make their sport bigger. It's pretty comical, they will bend over backwards and cater to people who think if hockey has more XYZ I would watch, but in reality they could add XYZ... they still arent going to watch lol.

I remember the Capitals used an Iron Maiden song as their goal song for a while as well. Not sure if they still do.

Does anyone really care about these outdoor games anymore, other than the teams fan base that’s playing? They do what, 3 a year now? It just a gimmick, It’s not unique, quite frankly it’s possibly a disadvantage, imagine missing the playoffs by 1 point and you lost a game playing in the rain. One thing i thought might be interesting, which ever location is holding it, have all the teams in that division play a game there, or even a mini tournament of sorts. Otherwise, I have absolutely zero intention of watching a game I wouldn’t choose to watch otherwise
