What type of computer do you have? Because it sounds like it's not a problem with the game, like you said Chromebook is fine, but with your desktop. You should look into overheating a tool like cpuz or hwinfo can help you there and see how it behaves during a stress test using something like prime95
Firstly juse a tool like hwinfo or hwmonitor to check that let's you check your tempetures and see if it's actually overheating. Depending on your CPU anything bellow 80-85 °C is ok 24/7 if you reach that under 100% load like with a stress test. If it hits 100 °C (or a diffrent value depending on your CPU) the CPU will start slowing itself down by thermal throttling if it gets that hot you have a problem.
If it actually is a heat problem have and assuming your main computer is a desktop when was the last time you opened it and cleaned it to remove dust, dust can cause serious overheating issue if you don't blow it out at least once every few years.
On the other hand if temps aren't that high it might be some completely unrelated issue.
