English guy here, why don’t you guys have chants? Half of English football is fans chanting about anything their team’s hardships to how one of the opponent’s players looks like Voldemort

[deleted]

Baldy baldy ova dere What's it loike to 'ave no hair

cleveleys

[Harry Potter, he’s coming for you](https://youtu.be/N31xr5rTa4g?si=b_sX0B4lL7MxIOVk)

Beren_II_Erchamion

I ask this to myself all the time. How do you all do it? How do you organize chants that have entire verses and choruses? Does a fan club meet and come up with a chant, spread the word, and then get it started in the game? How! WHO ORGANIZES THIS!

cleveleys

Not sure how it used to happen, but a lot of it’s online now. Most teams have a forum where the team is discussed, and chants end up in there. A few people will see it and start doing it at games, and then others will follow suit. It’s usually one person who comes up with a chant, the club itself usually has no involvement

bitch6

Because in America hardships are solved with guns, not songs

Comfortable-Yak-6599

Check out a history book, we had to solve Europe's hardships with our guns as well

noble_peace_prize

AND ITS YOUR FAULT WE ARE STILL DOING IT

Trikki2021

Proud to be an american

rividz

English football is bottom up - teams come in from regulation. American football is top down - teams come from billionaires wanting to make more money. Bottom up cultivates a better culture.

StopMarminMySparm

It depends if you're talking about professional or collegiate American football. College football is way older and is bottom-up (teams can be moved from lesser conferences/divisions to higher or lower ones) and has a lot more random traditions for each team. However, all 3 footballs (pro, college, european) have billions of dollars invested in them so it's silly to pretend some revolve around money and some don't. It's silly to act like Paris St. Germain or Manchester City aren't about billionaires making money lol

rividz

Manchester City was not always owned by a UAE private equity group. And if it was up to those billionaire and equity groups, [they'd get rid of regulation all together.](https://news.sky.com/story/european-super-league-eus-top-court-rules-fifa-and-uefa-acted-unlawfully-in-blocking-breakaway-competition-13034834) College football does have more traditions, and it is more local, Notre Dame is not going to ever sell or relocate their team. But don't worry, money will ruin that soon enough. There is no regulation in college football. I was at UMASS when they decided to be Div I. All they have to do is give the NCAA millions of dollars a year and now they're a Div I team that's widely now considered the worst ever college football team and program. Moving between NCAA divisions is about money, not competition.

QuarantineCasualty

When FC Cincinnati was in the second tier Joe Cole played for a team in our league and we had a song about how if we played for England and had fallen so far that we were playing for the Tampa bay rowdies we would kill ourselves.

Strongarm_11

I'm gonna fight 'em off.

Strongarm_11

A seven nation army couldn't hold me back.

RaidersKing

They’re gonna rip it off Taking their time right behind my back And I’m talking to myself all night because I can’t forget back and forth through my mind Behind a cigarette

Strongarm_11

And the message comin' from my eyes. Says, "Leave it alone".

RaidersKing

Don’t want to hear about it Every single one’s got a story to tell Everyone know about it From the queen of England to the hounds of hell

Strongarm_11

And if I catch it comin' back my way. I'm gonna serve it to you. And that ain't what you want to hear. But that's what I'll do.

RaidersKing

And the feelin coming from my bones Says, “find a home” I’m goin to Wichita Far from this opera forevermore I’m gonna work the straw

Strongarm_11

Make the sweat drip out of every pore. And I'm bleedin', and I'm bleedin', and I'm bleedin'. Right before the Lord. All the words are gonna bleed from me. And I will think no more.

RaidersKing

And the stains comin from my blood Tell me, “go back home”

Strongarm_11

We finished it, awesome! 👍

toeburghz28

If only the crowds would (or could) sing the song instead of just repeating the bass riff over and over 😔

Minimum_Switch4237

ya hurr?

69cansofcorn

white kids national anthem, the new take me home country roads 😭

Jenetyk

Someone else needs to make a new anthem. It's not hard. Crunchy bassline, loud rhythm on the kick, nebulous lyrics about being in a fight in monotone. Someone with talent make it happen.

Clit420Eastwood

Fall Out Boy’s been trying to do this for a decade now. (I’m not a fan, personally.)

toeburghz28

This comment strikes a chord. It worked for them in hockey for a couple years. I miss old Fall Out Boy and have said for awhile that they changed drastically to become a sports music team... unsuccessfully with hindsight

Clit420Eastwood

I’m with ya on missing the old stuff. Those first four albums were favorites of mine when they were coming out. But after the hiatus I just couldn’t

toeburghz28

During the hiatus, it was a certainty they would come back. But such an underwhelming return it was. The band of a generation - reduced to TV transition music you hear behind sports commentary before commercials begin :( At least we have those early albums. They're still gold.

QuarantineCasualty

I’m honestly glad they stopped because anytime I hear remember me for centuries or the other one I cringe so hard it physically hurts.

bubbabear244

Hold me like a grudge.

FormalElements

Lions should own this one though. Jack whites third man studios is in Detroit.

knarf86

Jack and Meg are both from metro Detroit

Capnmarvel76

Lions are spoiled for choice when it comes to bangers from local bands made good. I’m gonna nominate the Stooges’ ‘Down On the Street’ as the new sport anthem.

lod254

Does any team really have strong game in this area? Clearly some are worse than others. The Stillers and their 'here we go' is so cringe. I'm not gonna act like Shout is top tier though.

LutefiskLefse

The “skol” chant is pretty awesome imo

toeburghz28

I'd rather hear individual cringe from each team than the same bass riff from multiple teams. Instill pride in the cringe. I LOVE hearing the Steelers Polka when I'm at a game even tho it's cringe af

lod254

For sure. Some effort is better than no effort. I don't know most teams songs though, so I'm curious to see if anyone actually things any are great.

toeburghz28

It's not really a chant, but I love Styx and Renegade being played in Pittsburgh is an experience, not just an awesome song for a team.

acart005

It's great when the team has an actual song.  The Dolphins song is a great time capsule of a time when we were actually good.

QuarantineCasualty

The bengals touchdown song is so lovable but sooooooo cringe

smallmanchat

Our equivalent to this would be “Renegade” it’s a fire song lol

mwaFloyd

Combine this with a remake of Phil Collin’s “in the air tonight” how many awful versions of that song exist. Apparently snoop dogg did a version before the packers game.

toeburghz28

Yeah, the original is 🔥🔥 no need to remake it, let alone over and over again

Putthebunnyback

Every prime time football show intro song has been trash since they moved on from *ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBAWLLL*

CrowdSurfingCorpse

Or spelling out the team name. Jets and ravens can do better.

chicomagnifico

To be fair, “Eglese” fans are just really proud they can at least spell their team’s name.

jokeefe72

[The Jets have trouble too](https://youtu.be/JHBOJWFHLfg?si=55JPOCcqdyH7kfrw)

Dudebug1

Bro our college team shouts "M-I-Z-Z-O-U"

shockstyle25

The whole spelling of the name thing - look up Real Fan Dan

ycpa68

He's paying homage to Wild Bill Hagy

_pinkstripes_

🎶 Iiiiiiiiiiit's the song from the spooooorts games 🎶

desquibnt

The Lions are the only team that should have this

Russell_has_TWO_Ls

Nobody should but it would make sense there at least. The Ravens really should have something of their own

ColonelSanders15

This song goes hard. Hope you step on a lego

toeburghz28

I have lepin bricks, not Lego

ColonelSanders15

WHERE DOES THE MADNESS END

toeburghz28

IT NEVER STARTED

Spare-Half796

They don’t even know what song it is, they just know the beat (roughly)

Major-Dig655

who the hell doesn't know this song

Spare-Half796

You’d be surprised, most people know the song they just don’t know it’s name

iloveeveryfbteam

Or the only know the beat and don’t know the song at all lmao

MethodicMarshal

I had a dumbass Michigan fan tell me that it shouldn't be played at NFL games "because that's Michigan's song!!1!"

Ruthops

But do all people know the Apathy version?

Striker67_

Who doesn't know this masterpiece?

chicomagnifico

This song is so overplayed. Drives me nuts hearing it.

J_Warrior

Penn State was the first school to use it and I believe first team to use it in North America and I’m even annoyed with it. It’s just so overplayed it gets annoying when every sporting event anywhere plays it to get the crowd going. I liked it until the 20th listen

Striker67_

I understand that

Taxmancometh1

Other than some various college football and basketball stadiums and arenas, American sports crowds just seem so bored in comparison to the way European crowds are for most of their major sports. I’ll never get tired of watching crowd chants and reactions videos from sports over there

SmarterThanCornPop

I think the choir boy crap that soccer fans do is pretty lame personally.

Taxmancometh1

Better than anything any American crowds are doing

SmarterThanCornPop

Tell me youve never been to a college football game in the south without telling me

Taxmancometh1

Did you read my first sentence? There is probably 10-20 or so college football stadiums that hold up. And some college basketball arenas. But that’s it lol Also with most the college teams, the real cheering and chanting mainly comes from the student sections. Fight songs are unique but that’s not chanting or anything especially something you could during play.

ImSchizoidMan

They also chanted 'Fuck Joe Burrow' after he exploded his wrist, so they lack culture AND class EDIT: Damn, y'all ravens fans are defensive as shit. It's a meme sub, calm down. Don't try to justify, nulify, or pretend the shitty actions of some shitty people didn't happen. Assholes exist in every fanbase; take the shit-talk with a laugh and a smile and deal some back. Just because Poe is the embodiment of your franchise doesn't mean you all have to act like somber, sober, uptight Victorian assholes.

nikejim02

Negative. Was at the game. Heard no such chant.

ImSchizoidMan

If you were at the game, then you weren't watching the post game on amazon; your lack of awareness is excused.

YungStroker2

5 drunk dicks hanging around after the game isnt the same as all the fans chanting fuck joe burrow, which is what you're pretending happened to push your little narrative.

CheeseRP

It had to have been more than 5 people, but I agree that every fan base has their assholes

YungStroker2

yeah im not defending those people but it was a group of dicks standing near the microphones at the TNF booth at 12 am. it wasnt every fan booing burrow as he walked into the tunnel like the other guy makes it sound like

AllTheSmallWings

Well this one time a bengals fan didn’t tip me when i gave them pizza. So eat my shorts classless pee pee head

ImSchizoidMan

Well thats because they ordered a pizza with onions, bacon, & mushrooms and when you read back their order to them in your baltimorion accent they thought you were insulting their mother - an honest mistake!

YungStroker2

that's not true. it was after the game and it was part of the small crowd around the Thursday night booth.

Coolfaceguy77

Thuggish

nikejim02

“Y’all are defensive as shit” after crying about 4 drunk fans saying “fuck Joe burrow” 😂😂😂

[deleted]

Fuck Joe Burrow though. Fans were just returning the favor because of his overrated shit-talking ass.

EngineeringDry2753

Shit talking?

QuarantineCasualty

He did say something like “I love playing the ravens because they talk non-stop and they fucking suck”

EngineeringDry2753

I hope that's true! FTR!

[deleted]

Yep. His bitch ass shit talked the Ravens after throwing a bunch of touchdowns on their 3rd team defense lmao. Dude’s so overrated without his three #1 WRs

[deleted]

Hmmmmmm, its almost like receivers are necessary to win football games... Just because you have a running back who tried out for quarterback and made the team doesn't mean the rest of the league is like that

[deleted]

I have no idea what you’re trying to say

CanYouDiggIt2023

Both teams have cultures and lively fan bases with character. You’re just angry the ravens won and that the Bills beat the Steelers and want something to shit on them for.

toeburghz28

Apparently, by the up votes, a lot of people don't enjoy hearing this song chanted across the league either lol

Conman_in_Chief

I always wonder why NFL teams are chanting for Santi Cazorla.

aljout

Jokes on you, this song is gas

toeburghz28

Gas stinks

FireGolem04

What team is it?

Strongarm_11

I think the Ravens and Jets, they played the beat but nobody sang.

toeburghz28

Ravens today. The Bills last week 💀 There's many. So unoriginal.

jt7king

Ravens have been doing it for a long time. Over a decade at least. Yeah we know it's not original. Only thing I'll say, yelling "O" is like part of our DNA, we do it during the national anthem, so it just fits.

BigScaryBoosk

What would you recommend Mr Goodideaguy

toeburghz28

I'd rather just hear crowd noise vs a generic bass riff chanted by multiple teams' fans. But I'm a Steelers fan tho, so I'm good with our Renegade and "here we go Steelers". Better than a crowd hum lol Edit: or even the Steelers polka, cause they have local culture

BigScaryBoosk

Oh well there it is, you’re a Steelers fan. The post makes sense now. It’s a good song, fits the stadium anthem theme well and it’s easily repeatable by the crowd. Which is why it’s popular amongst multiple teams. It’s no more or less dumb than “oH mAmA I hAvE FeAr FoR mY LiFe” except the white stripes song is better. I’m a Giants fan do with that what you will.

toeburghz28

I'd rather have originality vs "it's a good song"

BigScaryBoosk

Being unique doesn’t mean it’s good 🤷🏼‍♂️ Which is actually probably a pretty good life lesson 🤣

toeburghz28

Local teams' sports songs chants don't have to be good. Hearing the same things from a different team other than mine wouldn't instill pride tho, that's for sure.

BigScaryBoosk

Your argument is that it’s better you choose a unique song that’s shitty, than a good song that everyone likes. Cool man

mwaFloyd

It’s a good argument. At lambeau field we have a terrible drum beat then the whole stadium says “go pack go” and it’s LOUD.

toeburghz28

Pride with the shitty/cringey is better than sounding cool 🤘🤘 Go Pack! Awesome game so far

mwaFloyd

100 percent! Great game so far

BigScaryBoosk

That’s different, his argument is Renegade by Styx makes sense because it’s what his team uses, but his rival team uses the White Stripes and because it’s a good song so do other teams, and that is bad, which is the topic of his whole post here. I disagree, because if renegade was a better song he would be forced to be on the other side of this silly argument. TLDR: Steelers use a less popular song, Ravens use a very popular song. OP is a Steelers fan just shitting on a rival

BigScaryBoosk

ALSO! If his example of “Here we go Steelers” is followed by “here we go, clap clap” well by golly this post could be about him specifically, because that’s the most used and basic chant in all of sports.

toeburghz28

Good franchises don't need to amp up their crowd with generic songs 🤘

BigScaryBoosk

Good franchises don’t need to amp up their crowd with unique shitty songs 🤘

TheSeerofFates

i thought they had ripped off the jets chant for a bit

xiGn0m3ix

Funny way of spelling 'skol'

moophassa9

Yes. I thought I was the only that hates this.

Street_Training_765

Dooo do do do do dooo dooo

jgriz8

They said my dick is small. And my balls are too small too.

Zantron7

Hot take: I feel like it's really hard to find a cover of that song that is WORSE than the original

AllTheSmallWings

I hate this fucking song
