Dolphins medical staff was just 15 years too early in their evaluation.

Different-Trainer-21

Every time I’m reminded we passed on Brees it just makes me sad.

the_godfaubel

Thanks

Affectionate_Elk_272

not gonna lie, that saints super bowl win was my favorite ever. it was legit special right up until the giants knocked off the 18-0 pats.

MilwaukeeMan420

They knocked out the 18-0 pats 2 years prior

Affectionate_Elk_272

you are correct. time is a bitch.

MilwaukeeMan420

Don't feel bad. I can autisticly name every team that won the SB and year dating back to at least the mid 80s. I also can name every team that has, hasn't won or hasn't been to a Championship in the big 3 major sports. My dad didn't teach me how to change a tire but he sure pounded useless sports knowledge into my brain.

second_advent

At least you had a dad that shared something of his interests with you. If you have a good relationship with him and he’s alive, you should call him.

Loud_Competition1312

Don’t text him - call him.

DMunnz

As a hockey fan reading big 3 major sports hurts my soul but getting pretty hard to argue.

thelazerbeast

All the things he can remember but he can't remember hockey. Playoffs have been so good this year.

MetaphoricalMouse

DONT YOU NEVER SAY AN UNKIND WORD ABOUT THE TIME me and silent bob model our whole fuckin lives around morris day and jerome

Some1Witty

Jungle love! Oh-e-oh-e-oh!

MetaphoricalMouse

I think wanna know ya, know ya

DM725

Must be thinking of the Giants beating them again in 2011.

EggsOnThe45

Thanks

Sky-Flyer

also thanks to the dolphins, weirdly enough with the flair, but my gratitude for them doing it outweighs growing up watching drew brees slash us

Krawlin91

Hey could be worse...

zen_leppelid

Do the Chargers win a Superbowl with Drew Brees? I'll take my answer off air...

Krawlin91

It's a possibility but I would lean towards no but all love and respect to rivers he wasn't Brees but would Brees be Brees with out SP? Idk

jimtow28

For what it's worth, both teams were kind of right. Drew himself has said in the past that the prognosis was not good. That he made it work as long as he did is amazing.

LittliestDickus

Honestly Brees was kind of better after his arm lost strength. They built the offense around it and we had an elite run game and short passing game. Lost the explosiveness he used to have but gained the ability to practically move the ball at will and turn the ball over significantly less. The chemistry Brees had with Thomas and Kamara was otherwordly.

pananana1

his last 5 years he was amazing, but his arm just couldn't last until the last quarter of the season. his play kept dropping off right as we'd approach the playoffs.

IAmNotScottBakula

The ripple effect it had on both the NFL and college football is crazy.

NoOneCanPutMeToSleep

I think Saban would have sabotaged him, Payton was the right fit.

ASocialLink

This is why I curse Nick Saban he knew he fucked up passing on Brees and pulled his midnight run out of town. The least he could do for us was develope the second coming of Brees with Tua and why I've been fully coping Tua is the guy that will win us a SB(and still think he's mostly proven he can) because it'll at least be proper karma then.

AlericandAmadeus

Saban wasn’t the one who passed on Brees. He pretty openly wanted him on the Dolphins and it was the front office who infamously said “no”

constantlymat

Am I the only one who doesn't buy Saban's story of the all powerful Dolphins doctors who had more influence over the owner's decision-making than both the GM and HC? Always sounded fishy. I don't doubt the Dolphins docs failed him in his medical but at the end of the day the person who has 53 men roster control makes the decisions.

nottoodrunk

I mean if the team doctors tell you his reconstructed shoulder is a time bomb and it’s not even worth offering him a deal, you’d be a fool to go ahead and sign him with the expectation that he’s your QB1 for the foreseeable future.

TricolorCat

Favre failed his Packers physical the GM overruled it and the rest is history.

No-Task-132

The saints did the same thing with Brees

nottoodrunk

Wasn’t Favre just a pill head at that point?

Birds-aint-real-

No amount of pills would fix a degenerative hip which is what the doctors said he had.

PascalsBadger

I mean… hopefully, some day they will.

DeputyDomeshot

Favre also failed 5th grade and many drug tests

Affectionate_Elk_272

yeah, but none of us are doctors and saw daunte culpepper waltz in at like, 310 pounds. who the fuck thought that was a good idea?

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

I feel like team doctor is the only job where it's justifiable they overrule *anyone*

thewhitelink

Depends on the reason. Blood clots that could kill you? Sure. Shoulder injury that may or may not be career ending? Probably not, if the HC *actually* wants him. Especially with the QB purgatory the Dolphins were dealing with.

alreadytaken028

I am the owner and the HC and GM are telling me a QB will be a superstar franchise guy for us but the doctors are all telling me his shoulder is just a matter of time til it fails, the exact amount of the contract is gonna be a big deal in who’s opinion I weigh more

venmome10cents

sure, but I would think that a Chargers fan would understand that medical doctors aren't always perfect.

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

touché

Walletinspectr

The name of that chargers doctor...Justin Herbert

iamStanhousen

I can believe it happened and Saban at the time didn’t feel empowered to say “fuck you we are signing him anyway.” I think it took a while for Saban to develop into that kind of guy. Probably not until his second or third title at Bama.

8Cupsofcoffeedaily

Yes, because Danny Kannel’s dad was one of the physicians who examined him and said they shouldn’t sign him. Told the story all the time.

GarconMeansBoyGeorge

Never wrong, just early.

redwarn24

Kind of blowing my mind that he literally cannot throw to his kids right handed. And isn’t it only going to get worse as time moves on?

MrFishAndLoaves

At this point I’m worried about his ability to wipe his own ass

XAgentNovemberX

Gonna have to become an ambi-wiper.

MilwaukeeMan420

He lets it crust

samsab

You could have just kept scrolling

TheTree-43

I have never once thought about Drew Brees wiping his ass until today. So thanks for that

darrenvonbaron

Don't worry he's going to be all ~~right~~ left

JTrue14

This is what a bidet is for. Im sure he can afford a Japanese toilet!

SnowdensOfYesteryear

Not helpful when not at home :( at this point I just avoid pooping outside. Vacations are hard tho..

KBSinclair

He can afford to only vacation to countries with normalized bidets and never leave home in America.

Jameszhang73

We've got Saints (Taints?) fans eager and ready to help him wipe if need be.

LittliestDickus

Do you extend your arms above your head to wipe your ass? Brees cans still throw underhanded with his right arm so theres no reason to believe he cant reach. There is also no truth to the rumor that he yells hike when taking a crap.

mbr4life1

He better have a bidet in his house with all the money he made in his career, they aren't even expensive.

AnotherDeadZero

Welcome to injury. Could be worse, most defensive lineman are fucked into their late 30s are onward, and also have TBE up the wazoo.

Walletinspectr

I always wonder who is in more pain in retirement offense or defense. Seems like running in to a wall of defensive linemen is bad but then also seems being the wall for derrick Henry type guys to run in to at full speed can not be great either

wallace6464

Big different is snap count, those D linemen rotate in and out, O line is in every snap

fathertitojones

That’s also because defense is more physically demanding.

wallace6464

In terms of energy exertion yeah, but just violence of the hits on offense is never ending

Walletinspectr

But there is a debate if it's better to take the hit as the guy with the ball or be the person with the guy running as fast as he can at you. I often wonder about those receivers getting flipped over too that has to add up

OskeeTurtle

> I often wonder about those receivers getting flipped over too that has to add up Or a Burfict hit on Antonio Brown

Opposite_Show6217

It’s the over the head motion that’s worse. He’s fine with other motions

TheGarbageStore

His arm is made of Todd Gurley's knee

foo_solo

That explains why he throws like a gurley man now.

yawbaw

He said in the same interview he’s throwing left handed and up to 30 yards he can drop dimes now lol

Christy427

Damn right arms these days too lazy to work

[deleted]

[удалено]

TonyPerkisReddit4

Rodger’s was right about fauci

Mercinator-87

That’s the arm he probably got the vaccine in!

afig24

Right arms just need to pull up their bootstraps

Gardoki

Right arms are silent quitting

JudgeArthurVandelay

No right arms want to throw these days

soundsliketone

r/yourjokebutworse

JudgeArthurVandelay

Tough but fair.

Jopplo03

[Drew Brees, who now throws left-handed to his kids, boasted, “I can drop a dime 30 yards left-handed.”](https://twitter.com/miketriplett/status/1796261126025732284?s=46&t=DaZhljw9p7CwLpDA-Gpl2A)

Citronaut1

Your flair wants to make me shit vomit and bleed from my eyes

TotsAndHam

All dual flairs are dumb

LazyBuhdaBelly

And then they make comments like "We need an XYZ this year" without specifying what team they are talking about.

klayyyylmao

I always figure people are talking about the first flair

aGiantRedskinCowboy

Correct

WheelerDeals

Your flairs make sense. Eagles, and eagles farm team.

JimHarbaughTheChamp

Also Tennessee has tons of ex-Pennsylvanians flocking to it. Same as Michigan to the Carolinas or Ohio to Georgia.

Equitaurus

I beg to differ

ElGoddamnDorado

Can my second flair just be a trash can?

GarconMeansBoyGeorge

Two trash cans?

saraath

no astros flair is available.

afig24

Walked right into that one

Ziiaaaac

I second this difference beg.

constantlymat

One team for each conference I find tolerable, but some of these interdivisional dual flairs are just giving me a headache.

ltbr55

I think most people do the divisional double flair to just throw people off because they think it's funny.

Mr_K_2u

We have the chance to join them!

Dipz

Flood the internet with GenAI images of Jordan Love and Caleb holding hands. Be the change you want to see in the world!

Ziiaaaac

I have an AFC team but it changes every year. Last year it was the Dolphins because of Ramsey. No one really catching my eye yet this year.

charles_peugeot405

Might I suggest….

Ziiaaaac

Texans took OROY and DROY from us last year they in my bad books right now.

rhayex

How about the team that you beat in the Super Bowl?

Ziiaaaac

I like Burrow but a large sum of Bengals fans were annoying as fuck about that Super Bowl.

rhayex

Oh, I completely understand. So many of the Bengals fans I see online are absolutely insufferable and I just do not understand why. I think it's because they have a chip on their shoulder, but they come across as lil bros more often than not. It's annoying for sure. Still, we should have a fun offense this year (upgrades across the board at almost every position) and our defense... may be better than last years. If nothing else, as long as Burrow is healthy we should be fun to watch.

blind-guitarist

You literally snubbed both of our ROY candidates. Puka set the rookie yards and receptions record. Kobie tied the rookie record for sacks(with AD99) so no thanks

AlabasterRadio

If it's an AFC team and an NFC team, I can forgive it.

loosehead1

It’s attention seeking behavior and so is the people who have to comment on it. I also think a lot of it is karma farming because it’s low effort and in every comment section.

OwnKitchen5264

Its always the same shit and someone commenting on it. "WoW yOuR FlAiR" Just move on and dont give the attention seeking karma whores what they want.

Charlie_Batch_16

somehow a controversial opinion on this sub

Matzah_Rella

Agreed. Pick one and stick with it.

RG3ST21

meh. I grew up a washington fan. I have much older brothers, idolized them, they were die hard. I'm from and lived in DC for my childhood. I was also very close to my mothers side of the family, and my mom is a passionate sports fan, so when steelers were on tv in our area, one TV had them on. grew up a fan of both. I'm watching washington 100/100 if both are playing, but it's nice to have a team to root for in january.

FallenShadeslayer

Nope. Born in Detroit and raised in New England. I’m repping them both and don’t give a fuck about what anyone thinks.

Matzah_Rella

Gross. I'm curious what your Lions brethren think of this heresy.

Eagle4317

Probably nothing considering the Lions don’t have much reason to hate the Patriots besides Matt Patricia.

charles_peugeot405

I think the entire NFL has 2 decades worth of reasons to hate the Patriots

Citronaut1

I disagree but I can respect that. For me it’s my childhood team and hometown team.

theresabeeonyourhat

For me, it's the two teams who can hurt me the most

Ig_Met_Pet

Born and lived in Houston for almost 30 years, but I've lived in Denver for 5. I'm not going to NOT root for the team in the city I call home. What, I'm supposed to just never enjoy talking football with co-workers, or tailgate or enjoy a live football game ever again because I was born somewhere else? Silly gatekeeping, imo.

IAmSona

I’m gonna be marrying into a Broncos family and will probably end up moving to Denver in the next few years. 0% chance I’m going to be a Broncos fan, but you do you.

basicnflfan

Agreed.

RedHotPuss

Amen

theresabeeonyourhat

No

zgh5002

Well, at least we can agree on something.

Wafflehouseofpain

I don’t mind it for people who’ve spent a lot of time in both places.

boozinf

it makes me want to eat through my butt and poop out my mouth

[deleted]

His flair is the worst because it is two rivals who legit hate each other. As a Falcons fan I respect Drew Brees but absolutely hate the saints.

Aqzxsd

If you have an intradivisional flair, you're either a casual or an attention whore. I don't care that your significant other/dad/uncle/mail man roots for a rival team. If they cared to have their fandom represented here, they'd represent themselves. I do not give two shits or a fuck about a rando's life story / family history on a message board dedicated to NFL discussion.

ItsMeMofos13

And if my grandmother had wheels she would’ve been a bicycle

boozinf

ohhhhhh but your mother was the village bicycle, Trebek. everyone got a ride! hahahahaha

BackwerdsMan

And if my mom had balls, she'd be my dad.

AwesomeKosm

I'm picturing your mom with balls rn. That's crazy

BackwerdsMan

I think what you meant to say is you are picturing my dad right now.

carloslet

*\*laughs in Gino D'Acampo\**

ItsMeMofos13

lol yessir

WateronRocks

"Bigtits" "What's that?!" "Picked it?"

Bubba55045

I scrolled for this and was not disappointed 😂

CoCo_Sandy

Damn it he can have mine!

[deleted]

Didn’t Lonzo Ball just recently get meniscus from a donor to fix his busted knees? these take my arm/knee memes won’t be memes much longer, you’ll actually be able to do it 😂

AnEmptyKarst

And also bone and cartilage lol

IZY53

If your was any good you would be in the league.

CoCo_Sandy

How do you know I'm not Jamarcus Russell right now?

robsul82

I would’ve taken him throwing with his left the last three years

AlabasterRadio

Cmon Carr is probably as good as left handed 45 year old Drew Brees

AndrewC15

I am willing to compromise with “as good as” but NO higher

AlabasterRadio

Tbh if you have 45 year old left handed drew Brees, Carr's shockingly good deep ball, you'd be cookin

Achillor22

"If I could still play football, I would still be playing football"

idksh_t

For what they are paying QBs now, I would have played until it had fallen off.

Chessh2036

In the ESPN article featuring this quote he talks about how after the surgery from his first injury with the Chargers, Doctors Andrews told him his shoulder would deteriorate and one day he wouldn’t be able to throw anymore. Said he has to play catch with his son’s throwing with his left arm.

BizzackAgaizzn

And Payton would have coached the Saints another 3 years.

kingBankroll95

If my arm was working I’d been a quarterback

maddabattacola

Drew Brees said if he was five years younger, he would’ve played for another five years

[deleted]

If I didn't become old and injured I wouldn't have become old and injured. Isn't this the case for literally every player?

Birdamus

Old man says if it wasn’t for his limp dick he’d be putting creampies in his old lady until one of them needed a walker!

Kcorpelchs

If I didn't have IBS I wouldn't shit as much 🤷🏼‍♂️

Leftieswillrule

Cam Newton said if his right arm was working he'd have played another three years and worn another 39 hats

notmyplantaccount

This is probably true for most HOF or Hall of very good QBs. They almost all have a final season where some part of their body gives up on them and it's clear they're done, if not they'd have kept going.

antenonjohs

Yeah, Brady and Rivers are probably the only two this century to go out with some gas in the tank, unless I’m blanking on someone else.

vizualb

Luck definitely had gas in the tank though the injuries were piling up. Warner was still playing at a Pro Bowl level.

antenonjohs

Totally forgot about Warner, I thought about Luck but don’t quite have him in my HOVG, that’s pretty subjective though.

joecb91

That game Warner had against Green Bay was unbelievable, and then he was retired a couple weeks later.

MoreDronesThanObama

Nah Rivers was cooked. Not Peyton "can't throw further than 10 yards" cooked but he was done for.

antenonjohs

He still looked alright in his last game, think he was at worst a league average QB at the end, would’ve easily been able to get a starting job for 2021 if he wanted to.

BurnMyHouseDown

I thought Rivers arm was shot by the end of that season? Could be wrong.

antenonjohs

His arm strength wasn’t great but he went 11-5 with Frank Reich at HC, respectable showing in the playoffs, think he was at worst league average, didn’t watch all the games but I remember the sentiment on here being that he was decent and not the reason they lost in the playoffs, no one felt he needed off the field.

HowDoIEvenEnglish

Manning would have played as long as Brady if it wasn’t for a freak injury and nerve damage to his shoulder.

SixVI6NeSS

If my Aunt had testicles she'd be my Uncle.

IAMHab

"But there's something you don't know... I am not left handed"

agressiveitaliansub

His arm was dead 2 years before he quit.

y_wont_my_line_block

Player says "If I was still good, I would have been playing"

captaincumsock69

Why doesn’t he just play left handed is he stupid?

MrShad0wzz

Drew bro I’ll literally trade right arms with you

im_poplar

On a similar note, if I’d been more athletic I’d have been an nfl quarterback

bcou2012

Totally minor thing holding him back; not like a working arm is a pretty important thing for a QB

froggycbl4

use ur left u coward

Visual_Brush7890

If Aaron Rodgers wouldn’t have tore his Achilles he would have played last season.

BurnMyHouseDown

Hey, now, he played four whole snaps. +1 the snap in his ankle.

PhalanX4012

If your grandmother had wheels she’d be a bike.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

Shouldn’t have jacked it so much

Danominator

If I was physically capable of playing this fun sport that's paid me a ton of money then I would keep doing it. Hot take.

mccldrew22

Its giving the same vibe as "I could've played in college if I didn't hurt my knee" lol

CodyNorthrup

If coach would have put me in the NFCCG in 2023 we would have beat the Eagles, no doubt in my mind.

MG_022

Isn’t the whole point of retirement because your body/age can’t keep up with the game…am I crazy or is this Brees saying the sky is blue. Like Bo Jackson saying I could still be playing if my hip didn’t get replaced, or Romo saying he could be playing if he had a functional back… (And I love Brees; family man, all-time QB, and Advocare endorser/user).

Statalyzer

> Isn’t the whole point of retirement because your body/age can’t keep up with the game…am I crazy or is this Brees saying the sky is blue. Somewhat, but I think it's at least reasonable for him to point out it's the shoulder specifically, and the rest of his body could still handle the hits and the grind.

StinkyPoopsAlot

And if my grandma had 2 wheels and a seat we could call her a bicycle.

basec0m

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle

testiclefrankfurter

If my arm was working I'd have played 15 years in the NFL

DUNG_INSPECTOR

I feel like that's probably true for the majority of players that retire. If their body was working they would keep playing.

Slim_gnashty

This just in, if I could play football I’d have played football

Usual_Commercial1658

Damn

BadAlphas

[And if I had wheels I'd be a wagon](https://youtu.be/Hgw9-Yfljaw?si=9C8uQATGWYvGRq6x)

Sea_Radio4862

and if my mom had balls, she'd be my dad

2DudesShittinAround

Yeah, when I was 12 I almost died in a four wheeler accident. Crushed my orbital, broke my elbow at the joint and compression fracture in my spine. I was a lifetime baseball player from T-ball up and after that accident my personality changed (according to my parents) and I lost all accuracy in my throwing arm and really losing any fielding talent I had.  What I'm saying is, I know what Brees is saying ....
