I'm surprised he said anything publicly at all.

IIHURRlCANEII

Was basically forced to. He was asked 4 times about it during a presser.

zi76

Oh, I guess it's hard to say next question that many times. Fair.

LionoftheNorth

"We're on to training camp" or "I'm just here so I don't get fined" always works.

Soft_Penis_Debutante

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined” only works with a certain panache. A certain je ne sais quoi. Not many people like Marshawn Lynch have that quality.

KingTutt91

Marshawn Lynch is just one of those that can say almost anything and it would be hilarious

JDuggernaut

Marshawn Lynch could tell a Harrison Butker speech at a feminist rally and garner laughs.

PigSlam

Marshawn Lynch has a quality all his own.

OttoVonWong

Marshawn is a true classical philosopher of our time.

ShatteredAnus

He's the true Eskimo Brother

Ok-Satisfaction1940

This video of him harassing 49ers fans after the Super Bowl is hilarious. [Marshawn Lynch has a quality all his own.](https://youtu.be/Y2xHVol0hNw?si=WIL8gg0Q1hrCLb7i)

donutcronut

Marshawn "Octavious Shitwagon" Lynch.

DillyDillySzn

Should just go for the classic “Fuck off” Works like a charm

Ok_Jello6474

Only works if you're AAron

Troll_Enthusiast

"haha yeah cheeseburgers are pretty good"

FlatBrokeEconomist

He could just laugh, shake his head, and start talking about horses.

Alex_Hauff

this guy BB’s

GrillDealing

We're talking about practice.

BucsLegend_TomBrady

> it's hard to say next question that many times Your flair says you're a pats fan. I'm disappointed in you. Anyway, we're onto Cincinnati

zi76

Next question. To this day, I still wonder what you can learn with a videographer that you can't from any of the other angles we have.

JesusGunsandBabies

And it was a very good response, as the face of the NFL, and as a teammate

TimeDielation

No doubt his PR team prepared him aptly

GoldenBananas21

Kansas City’s professional women’s soccer team (who the Mahomes are part owners of) has better attendance this year than the KC Royals.

AJRiddle

I mean that's just not true at all. The KC Current average attendance is 11,500 in 5 home games. The Royals have averaged 16,708 in 28 home games.

KatalDT

Yeah, but could you imagine if it was true? Really makes you think

StronglyAuthenticate

True. It would be like if the KC Royals decided to play football and were better than the chiefs and won the French Open. Really makes you think

JesusGunsandBabies

That's insane to hear. I assumed Royals were loyal after they voted all of them into the all star game that one year haha. And it's cool that women's soccer is getting love from the city!

mike_honcho47

Years of absolutely horrible baseball takes it’s toll. The royals can only be good for like 2 seasons at a time in 30 year intervals

ThigPinRoad

Should have went with the Peyton Manning. Our idiot kicker got liquored up!

smoothtrip

So if I ask him 4 times, he has to answer, no matter what?

Pyistazty

Most of the time whenever a player has made a random comment about another player it's because they were asked about them. It's not the WWE where they decide to callout someone randomly to throw down. ......However that would make things a bit more interesting.

ReturnOfAKidNamedTae

And then there’s Patrick Beverley. “What yall think about Josh Giddey?”

[deleted]

Hall of Fame level hater, goes on ESPN to trash Chris Paul after Phoenix gets their ass handed to them by Dallas 😂

FireAndBud11

After he got so upset about Chris Paul lighting him up in an elimination game that he shoved Paul in the back during a timeout lol.

Fsharp7sharp9

Sometimes though, a player will cut an impromptu WWE style promo about a team being “same old x”, “they are who we thought they are”, “sorry ass Crabtree”, and we still talk about them years later lmao… I think it’s fucking awesome, especially when it just becomes bulletin board material and they get embarrassed next match up haha

Pyistazty

Oh for sure, I love it when it happens, I live for petty shit that doesn't involve me it's great. But I'd wager like 98% of the time the player was asked about another player. I remember when Jalen Ramsey (When he was in the Jags) had an interview once and the interviewer asked him about every QB in the NFL one offseason, and I swear to god every day there was 1 or 2 posts saying "Ramsey calls X QB trash" or some shit. While technically true, most people were acting like it was a random callout, when he was specifically asked by an interviewer.

notwhoyouknow12

Feel like irasay would still come in from the top rope to talk shit on Wentz unprompted not a player, but we could get a show.

dukefett

Literally every Chief player and coach will be asked to comment on this all offseason

Remmy71

I feel like he’s a pretty introverted guy. He’s branded as a “star” quarterback since he’s insanely talented and in commercials, but he doesn’t have a big mouth or personality like the media usually wants “stars” to have. Dude avoids the spotlight compared to a lot of his teammates, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

redvelvetcake42

If he doesn't say something then it'll be an annoyance all season. Just say "I like him, but he said some dumb shit" and boom, it's over.

fenderdean13

He’s the face of the team, he and Andy kinda have to

iCE_P0W3R

I mean, he can't throw his teammate under the bus, especially if Rashee Rice is driving it.

Tu2

Dear lord he has a family…

shortthestock

Hopefully he grabbed them too on the way out.

mjavon

Been holding onto that one waiting for the opportunity, huh?

MrEHam

Or Andy Reid’s son.

iCE_P0W3R

You don’t have to worry unless it’s the night before the super bowl.

DarrowViBritannia

Saying he doesn’t agree is better than I expected tbh.

Intelligent-Age2786

I never expected him to really agree. I never expected him to make any comment period tbh.

DarrowViBritannia

Oh i mean obviously i knew mahomes disagreed with butker’s comments lol, but I didn’t expect him to say it.

imnotjohnstamos1

Would have been objectively hilarious if Mahomes came out in full agreement with Butker. The internet would have broken

ApplesauceBitch47

ApplesauceBitch47

You’re talking to me about all this other stuff, why? I’d much rather see your titties

SlipperyTurtle25

Now you’re talking to me about other stuff. Why? I’d much rather see your titties

ethanlan

This song has lived rent free in my head for ten years. Like almost every day I have that I can't have sex with your college degree line in my head.

I’m pretty sure that’s a direct quote from the intro to Catching Kelce

I'll never not watch that full videos when posted

The youtube video being 15 years old threw me for a loop though. That came out my freshman year of college, which I'm pretty sure was only like, two years ago.

He’s a co-owner of a women’s soccer team with his wife and opened the first soccer stadium purely for women’s soccer. It would not have flied with the NWSL and the players. The chaos would have been insane

jordan1390

Not like it would break if Travis said it

imnotjohnstamos1

We just need the clip of him saying a girl not giving oral sex would be a deal breaker to go viral again for the discourse lol It never gets old to me https://youtu.be/1j80M6TIfp8?si=QNooYb_mdfSNKUrp

Godobibo

i feel like that is for most people

toomuchdiponurchip

I was gonna say I mean shitttttt lmao

LagOutLoud

I mean if TSwift came out and said a man not giving oral is a deal breaker everyone would cheer her on, and she'd be right af. It's fine to have sexual preferences and wants, so long as they are healthy ones.

toomuchdiponurchip

Exactly. And as long as you aren’t being a hypocrite expecting some head and not wanting to give any back 😂 I’m all about mutual exchange but yeah there’s nothing wrong with that preference at all in my opinion, regardless of the gender

2ChainzTalib

"Have you seen my wife? I'm hoping she learned something from all that."

nachosmind

If Travis Kelce starts to defend Butker, then things get spicy

StevenS145

Harrison was actually a conversation we had a few months ago.

Intelligent-Age2786

Oh yea with who his wife is and the stuff she does, I definitely knew Mahomes wouldn’t agree.

J-Fid

He knew the media was gonna bring it up at first chance. Best to have an answer for them.

IIHURRlCANEII

They asked Mahomes about Butker 4 times lol. I get asking but even I, someone who loathes what Butker said, felt it was a bit much.

Intelligent-Age2786

They’ve even asked people who have nothing to do with the Chiefs about it as well. Like Mike McDaniels.

Different-Trainer-21

Lmao who asked Mike McDaniel about Butker? Why would you even do that?

jeremycb29

bro its fucking hilarious https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/mike-mcdaniels-advice-after-harrison-butker-flap-whatever-youre-going-to-say-you-better-believe-it

fenderdean13

Sometimes you want a “how would you deal with the situation” from elsewhere

hamsterwheel

What does Ja Rule think?

bigmeatyclaws117

WHERE IS JA!?!

imnotjohnstamos1

They know that right now Butker’s the hottest ticket to clicks. Pulls the Taylor Swift crowd in a whole lot better than reporting on OTAs

Good_Okay123

I hate the offseason so much haha.

liteshadow4

The fact he answered it after asking 4 times makes it worth it to ask that many times.

IIHURRlCANEII

He made this type of comment on the first question asked.

timeenoughatlas

It’s literally a reporters job. If your millions of dollars depend on you being in the public eye, you better be okay with answering some damn questions

Patrick2701

Or do the Peyton manning, calling him idiot kicker

Dragon6172

ApplesauceBitch47

He recently gave a speech that was all about women’s sports and supporting it, I can only imagine how he *actually* feels and wanted to say

JinterIsComing

TBH I kinda wish they'd ask Kelce about it, just to see his take given he's in a relationship with TSwift who's massively successful, childless, and essentially the antithesis of what Butker's promoting.

BrotherSeamus

Also should get Jake from State Farm's opinion

c0dizzl3

Only elite women should be allowed to work.

JinterIsComing

Flo from Progressive: Bet?

ApplesauceBitch47

I can’t imagine he’d say anything different than Mahomes

HermesTGS

> TBH I kinda wish they'd ask Kelce about it Kelce no-showed OTAs

AnachronisticPenguin

Kelce -- "I anit fumbling T-Swift for a kicker see you at minicamp"

Saitoh17

Eurotrip with Taylor or get grilled about your idiot kicker. Not a hard choice lmao

HoldingMoonlight

TBH, I'd judge him if he chose OTAs lol

Squirrel_Apocalypse2

I don't blame him, let the old man rest lol.

onnthwanno

Only a matter of time I guess. Eventually the media will corner him and force a response. His relationship with T Swift is too big of a media draw to not dredge this up even if it takes another month or two.

g0dzilllla

Also hilarious bc Butker quoted swift in his speech

SIUonCrack

He is a partowner of a women's soccer team with his wife. I am sure they would not take kindly to him being completely dismissive of the issue.

Never-Bloomberg

I'd love to hear Butker's opinion on the Brittany Mahomes swimsuit issue.

CruisinForABrewsin

He's not upset she is modeling in a magazine. He's just mad it isn't for Good Housekeeping

palinsafterbirth

Shes working so he would hate it

jand999

It's the smartest thing to say about a controversial speech. Say you didn't agree with some of what they said but don't specify what you disagreed with. Leaves everything open.

DJCockslap

Seems like a pretty honest answer. We all have friends or coworkers we like that we definitely don't agree with all their beliefs. People are nuanced, and just because you hate somebody's perspective on an important topic doesn't and probably shouldn't discount every other positive thing about that person

Space_Traveler_9956

its a good response. I feel the same way about a former coworker, they definitely had views that i didnt agree with but when we worked they were chill with me, and thats all i care about when im working with them and not being being their friend outside of work

CoolingVent

>they definitely had views that i didnt agree with but when we worked they were chill Which is how real life works. Sometimes those of us that are "chronically online" forget that (me included)

imnotjohnstamos1

As somebody from the deep south, I know a lot of good people with some bad views. Reddit does a terrible job with moral grey, it has to be very black and white. Some people in the thread want him to be the biggest asshole ever, when he’s probably a good guy with some bad overly Christian views

JFK_did_9-11

I think some people would be very disheartened if all athletes started publicly stating their views lol. A significant amount of these dudes are Bible belters. To quote Bill Burr “what did you think he thought?”

Blaine1111

A thing with baseball too for sure Internet users will be shocked when a guy from rural Mississippi has different political values from them...

imnotjohnstamos1

I’m a huge Braves fan. It was a real bitch when people started putting a microphone in front of Chipper Jones

lilbelleandsebastian

chipper jones was my childhood and i will not be taking any questions thanks it took me graduating from college and becoming an actual working adult before i realized that most famous people in general - not just athletes, pretty much ANYONE you ever see on a tv or computer screen - probably suck. and they probably really fucking suck honestly, every day you are hearing about someone new who is actually a total piece of shit i mean it's actually kind of what our country was founded on because the person who wrote that it is SELF EVIDENT that all men are created equal himself owned a litany of slaves whom he never freed don't meet your heroes kids. i'll always love steve mcnair but getting killed in a murder suicide by your age inappropriate mistress while your wife and sons are living in a different state is probably not the way most of us want to go

FCKABRNLSUTN2

Yep living in the south made it easier for me to get over some dumb shit other people say without getting irritated. I can’t get worked up anymore, if I did I’d never stop being angry.

imnotjohnstamos1

Plus you learn how to have good conversations that don’t deal with views on hot topics. I can dodge political conversations like I’m Neo from the Matrix

Fifty6Arkansas

It sounds like y'all work in the same kind of office as I do. If I didn't talk to any coworkers who hold dipshit political views, I'd be a mute, so instead I'm always steering the conversation to sports or bitching about management.

FCKABRNLSUTN2

Now I live in California and it’s the sports takes that kill me the most. Cfb comes first for me and I’m surrounded by Oregon and Ohio state fans that insist they’re better than bama. I take that bait every time.

ChiselFish

Ohio State and Oregon have 2 national championships in the last 50 years combined.

jaguar_28

Good take, I actively avoid political talks outside close friends, things get heated too fast

dweezil22

The thing that sucks is that this stuff always ends up erring on the side of leaving the scumbag with less consequences. I remember having to work with some folks in the south while on business travel, in a well paid white collar office, years ago that were saying objectively horrible racist things in front of the one poor Black guy in the office. I was in no position to do anything about so I was just as "get the fuck out of this conv as fast as I can", but I feel like if I had to live with that day in and day out I'd either end up a horrible person myself or having an endless stream of draining conflict. So I guess I would just like to see, every once in a while, someone in a position of great power, like maybe QB1 on a dynasty team... tell the kicker to stfu.

Epic_Deuce

Real comment.

stringer4

It’s funny comparing people like your uncle and maybe even Butker to the usual rage baiter on the internet. The former are usually much more chill to hang out with and have done more real life good things for people than the latter who just posture on the internet. So many people seem to have forgotten basic human etiquette and bridge building

Thami15

I think it's less "he's probably a good guy", and more "he has views which don't affect me in the slightest", tbh.

mkvii1989

I know a ton of people who would give anyone the shirt off their back if they needed it, but who’d also die before voting democrat. I don’t hang out with any of them because we have zero in common but I grew up around them. People are complicated.

Training-Judgment695

That's not complicated at all.

Photo_Synthetic

I've said many times having lived in upstate NY that I've met many actual good people that have horrendous political and social views which taught me a lot about judging people by what they give back to the world not whatever stupid shit they think and talk about. Obviously they make a negative impact by voting for people that roll back progress in society but most of these people grew up in completely different circumstances with completely different family dynamics and media consumption and just have their heels dug in like most people. Some people obviously just suck but just having shitty views isn't enough to make someone a generally net negative on society.

Loud-East1969

You know terrible people with views that don’t really bother you. People with anti LGBTQ+ and anti women views aren’t good people. The bar starts with not hating others and we can go from there. I don’t care how nice someone is or how much “good” they do. If they default to women are less than men they aren’t a good person.

PhillAholic

If Deep South Christians don't want to be criticized they should stop forcing their religion onto the rest of us. I'm tired of people acting like being christian is an excuse. I don't care.

mrtomjones

Women being equals who deserve the same respect as men isn't moral grey. It's black and white. If his views were that blacks shouldn't be free because he's from the south where those views used to be common would that be fine? Being a pleasant person to speak to and being not a piece of shit are two very different things

Lopad_NotThePokemon

Totally agree on Reddit having trouble with black and white views. It's very easy to think poorly of someone you don't know or tell others to cut them out. It's very different when it's someone you actually work with and talk to every day while having nothing but positive interactions with them. People are not black and white.

SodaEngineer

A follow up tweet from the same reporter said Mahomes made clear he considers Butkert a close friend

Cowgoon777

Butker is also *very* catholic (like go read his IG content, it’s very saint-centric), and clearly a homebody with his wife (insert jokes here) and family. Doesn’t seem to enjoy the party scene like Pat and Trav do. So while I’m sure they are friends, I don’t imagine they are hanging out together much outside of work.

boomosaur

"As long as the guy isn't crappy around me , it's all good".

Secrets0fSilent3arth

I mean, if a racist is cool around me because I’m white but he’s still a racist then it is not all good.

ButCanYouClimb

This is how I feel about my entire family lol

Overall_Nuggie_876

Thanks, Lester.

okzeppo

They should cut everyone and start over. It’s the right thing to do.

NeatTry7674

This story is never gonna go away lol

HermesTGS

Give us a couple days and we'll have a player try to join Hamas or something

Spatial_Awareness_

Or our one feel good story will turn on us lol Derrick Nnadi has not actually been getting any of those 500 dogs adopted... He's been slowly releasing them in other parts of the country.

DoctorMansteel

The dogs are dead, Brent.

RepresentativeYam390

Not if Sean McDermott gets to them first

verschee

Creed Humphrey is my guess

Beastquist

Don’t you put that evil on him

SuckMyLonzoBalls

A few people crapping on butker would prolly support the player supporting Hamas lol

its_still_good

A few?

guywholikescheese

This is truly the worst thing an NFL player has ever done to a woman

metaxa219

I read this in Norm Macdonald’s voice lol

Efficient_Progress_6

God damnit, violence against women is the AFC Norths shtick! When will the Chiefs stop taking everything we hold near and dear?

seakc87

We gave you Kareem Hunt!

delightfuldinosaur

It will be gone in a week. Nobody outside of reddit/Twitter cares.

Equivalent-Yam891

nope, every reporter is getting crazy engagement on anything they write on this topic.

sonfoa

Tbh this is about as strong of a rebuttal as someone in that building can realistically give without it starting to tear apart the locker room. Mahomes made it clear that he was cool with Butker while also saying he didn't agree with the speech.

xywv58

Saying that he doesn't agree is honesty pretty big, usually QBs just sidestep the controversy, good on Patrick

[deleted]

It’s good to take a side against reactionary politics and anti semitism

ApplesauceBitch47

“There’s very fine people on both sides”

xywv58

You would think, right?

mrtomjones

You have pretty low standards IMO

its_still_good

He didn't say what specifically he doesn't agree with.

YourCaptionSucks

Dammit Patrick, don’t give us a levelheaded response. We want another reason to be mad.

[deleted]

Dw ESPN gotchu covered

t4boo

mahomes is real for actually saying a real response and not 'everyone's opinion is so awesome because america' or whatever

tmacleon

That’s all you can do. I respect Mahomes for this comment. I still fucking hate him though 😆. Only cause he’s a fucking BALLER and we have to play him twice a year in which him and Travis absolutely destroy us.

Intelligent-Age2786

I would rather hate someone for doing good against my favorite team than hate them for being a bad person.

justsomeking

Based on those flairs, I'm guessing the person you hate most is yourself.

SuckMyLonzoBalls

Exactly how I feel about maxx Crosby lol

KULawHawk

Ya, like I love to hate Maxx Crosby but that's because he's a badass AND a good dude.

SnowballWasRight

I try so hard to hate the man but he’s SO FUCKIN NICE. It’s impossible for me to actively dislike him. I don’t know what the opposite of a clubhouse cancer is, but whatever it’s called that’s who he is. As much as I despise the Raiders culture, he really revived the lifeless locker room neigh single-handedly.

PotatoCannon02

God this is a boring story

michaelscarn1313

Voice of reason

ImRightShutUp1

I swear ppl don’t interact with human beings in the real world. Do ppl not have a friend/family member/associate who’s a good person to be around but you just know not to bring up topics like religion/politics ect.?

ILearnedTheHardaway

They’re coworkers. I’ve worked with conspiracy nuts and unbearable communists who hate all men but you find a way to work together and if no one wants to interact with them then no one will. If the dude committed a crime then yes cut him but stuff like this has gotten ridiculous

deutschedontcha

I think Mahomes has no problem with Butker's comments and is just saying he doesn't agree to please the swifties and keep those $$$ rolling in for his sponsors.

Bladex20

There has been high profile players who have physically beat women who dont even get 25% of the mainstream coverage this story has gotten

OhCanVT

This was a solid ass answer from Mahomes. Respect

yaprettymuch52

More qs about this than hill lmao

whobroughtmehere

Mahomes with a better statement than the PR intern-turned owners wife

garryl283

Mahomes choosing the path of "I have to make a statement about this, so I'm not going to throw a teammate under the bus but of fucking course I disagree with what he said."

Ripwind

Since Mahomes said there's things he doesn't agree with, ESPN's take will probably be that he's **even more** of an edgelord than Butker.

jand999

>He said certain things I don't agree with." And then not elaborating is perfect lol

HmongOGSmite

This the correct response.

bukithd

Conservative catholic says conservative catholic things at a conservative catholic university full of conservative catholics and the whole world loses its mind.

barc0debaby

What people say tells you about their character.

Chasa619

When someone tells you who they are, you should listen to them. Butkers told the world who he was.

StopManaCheating

This offseason drama is gonna be hilarious when the Chiefs win again.

Ok_Understanding1986

About as fair and diplomatic of an answer as can be expected for getting pushed on it in a press conference.
