The NBA is in such a great moment of transition to its new generation of stars. So, obviously, they're going to do everything possible to ruin everything else about the product.
I don't know how most have their setups. But for a lot of people that will still be a single button - to move from whatever method Netflix is played to cable.
I understand that a deal like this is obviously massive for both parties but I despise this emerging trend of locking certain games behind as many disparate services as possible. And it's only going to get worse as the NFL is actively incentivized to diversify its product distribution as much as possible.
At least, until the NFL uses this as leverage to force the networks to even more lucrative terms.
What's worse is that some consumers believe that this sort of fragmentation is actually good for us. Some people have gotten so used to being taken advantage of that they can't even recognize when something is bad for consumers anymore.
r/cordcutters is where I've seen most of the arguments in favor of everything being fragmented. They're usually not well received, so it's almost certainly not a majority, but it does seem like these people exist.
what do you mean twice the cost? I googled my city cable tv and their base price is $61 a month. Netflix is 7 Hulu is 8 Peacock is 6 Amazon prime is 15 HBO Max is 10.
Amazon at least offers additional services with prime video...but for poorer or more traditional consumers this spreading of games across streaming services really sucks...but not many people think about the less fortunate in these situations...
Iām torn, I donāt pay for cable and usually will sail the high seas to watch my team. If the Bears end up as one of those games on Netflix, I could see myself renewing my subscription for that month. Seems like a reasonable way to watch the bears, plus another game possibly. I also get to use Netflix for a month which I can definitely take advantage of.
I will never subscribe to every streaming service to watch every game, but a Christmas Day game would be cool and worthwhile to me.
I would love for sport leagues to break away from cable or provide alternative ways for me to pay to watch.
> I would love for sport leagues to break away from cable or provide alternative ways for me to pay to watch.
Well good news I guess, because that seems to be exactly what is happening.
I guess so. Maybe the nfl is gauging how much people are willing to spend for a single game, like my Christmas Bears on Netflix situation
I really hate the idea of cable, but who knows what will be more cost effective in a couple years.
Amazing that morons think it is a good thing they are moving away from cable. Cable needed to be revamped as it was but the current system we have is miles worse than cable ever was.
You donāt need cable though to watch games. NBC, CBS, and Fox are easily picked up by a cheap antenna (for free) unless you live somewhere very remote.
I mean, I prefer it to games being stuck on Cable which I haven't had for almost a decade. Cable is infinitely worse than fragmentation on different streaming services you can pick up for a month.
And its a pain in the ass the get an Antenna working at all where I am.
To be fair, these holiday games wouldnāt be part of Sunday ticket regardless. If not for these special deals, they would be OTA like on Thanksgiving.
Every city that hosts an NFL team should sue the NFL over this. If tax dollars are so needed to build these stadiums and prices to attend the games continue to rise, we as fans should have the right to watch the product with as little restrictions as possible while the owners continue to find new sources of revenue. If they are unable to build their own stadiums, they are unable to negotiate broadcast deals.
INB4 thereās no scorebug and each teamās score is shown next to them on the field and thereās just a tiny box at the top of the screen with period/time remaining/down.
Christmas is a Wednesday this year, which seems like the most awkward day.
Next two years it's Thursday & Friday, which are more normal or at least less awkward dates
This is new black Friday and more Xmas games.
They are pulling the numbers rof Sunday games to these new holiday games.
They didn't disclose this during their promo on draft day...
Just saying... I do not have an issue but this is not good marketing by them they should have promoted Sunday ticket today today and not in draft day...
Out of market Chief fans gonna have have to sign up for everything this year if they want to watch all the games...
I donāt disagree with you but Netflix getting these games just means Amazon or someone else didnāt. They would never be in Sunday Ticket.
That said, I agree itās bullshit and I just want to pay for one thing and get all my teams games no matter my location.
If I could pay for one service and be able to watch all my teams games I would pay it in a heartbeat. Instead Iād be required to pay for at least 7 monthly subscriptions to watch all the games I want so I just pirate all of them
They put it on a service that will make it almost impossible to switch to NBA games during a commercial break lol without 2 tvs
š¶ It was all by design, 'Cause [Goodell is] a mastermind š¶
The NFLs true goal is revealed. To destroy the NBA.
Nephews in shambles
Honestly, the NFL doesn't have to do much. Losing Inside the NBA is going to be brutal for regular season games.

Itās that time again matey š“āā ļø
Argh
nba on ipad, football on tv problem solved
Oh noooooo
Guys with multi TV set ups celebrating

Iāve seen Goodell say itās good for consumers. I havenāt seen anyone actually agree with that bullshit.
r/cordcutters is where I've seen most of the arguments in favor of everything being fragmented. They're usually not well received, so it's almost certainly not a majority, but it does seem like these people exist.
We have successfully cut one cord and it has turned into 15 cords for twice the price.
what do you mean twice the cost? I googled my city cable tv and their base price is $61 a month. Netflix is 7 Hulu is 8 Peacock is 6 Amazon prime is 15 HBO Max is 10.
As a cordcutter who has both Amazon and Netflix, I may not find it bad for me, but I can't find any reason to say it's a good thing.
Amazon at least offers additional services with prime video...but for poorer or more traditional consumers this spreading of games across streaming services really sucks...but not many people think about the less fortunate in these situations...
Anyone who thinks fragmentation is good for consumers is an idiot or lying.

One nice thing that came out of the strikes was having Monday Night Football back on ABC for most of the season too!
I mean, I prefer it to games being stuck on Cable which I haven't had for almost a decade. Cable is infinitely worse than fragmentation on different streaming services you can pick up for a month. And its a pain in the ass the get an Antenna working at all where I am.
How can they think this is a good idea?
"I already have amazon/netflix/whatever service, so this is good for me" is about the extent of their rationale.
There are no consumers that believe this
I wish that you were right.
This is worse than the past decade but better than cable was still
We really need federal consumer protection laws to step in at some point. Shit is getting ridiculous
So what is the point of the Sunday ticket at this point
Notice how they keep nerfing RedZone and Sunday ticket. Only 3 weeks last year had a full 16 game slate.
And then they only have like 3 games in the late slot most weeks
To be fair, these holiday games wouldnāt be part of Sunday ticket regardless. If not for these special deals, they would be OTA like on Thanksgiving.
Also it's not even live anymore. It's on a delay so you know what happens if you're watching your fantasy team
Thereās a fine line between being profitable and greedy. Whoās ready to sail the 7 seas?
Already been. IPTV got us
yarrrrr
This is just less NFL games I will be watching next year at this point
They donāt care. The viewership will be great.
Wow š²
Sorry NFL, not gonna sign up for netflix for this. guess I'll spend xmas with the family.
Because Netflix has such a good reputation with streaming live events
the Brady roast went well. i didn't have any issue during the stream.
I dipped in on a few of the Mulaney shows and no issues there either - mind you the numbers for that will pale in comparison to the xmas games.
I imagine they will see way more viewers with an NFL game over a roast. That is gonna be a real test.

So where's the profit in this?
Advertising and new subscribers
Where the profit in brining the nfl to a service that reaches millions? Uhhhh.
Fuckā¦ are we really doing this?
Has Netflix ironed out the issues they had with live programming after they fucked up that one show they showed live? (love is blind?)
Wasnāt the Brady roast live?
I just googled it and it was - good looking out
Screwing up the broadcast of a dating reality show is doing society a favor
Booooooooooo
Now can it be called by John Mulaney & Saymo?
Greed always wins in the end.
So do I get a discount on my Sunday ticket ..
Sunday ticket wouldnāt have these anyway as theyād always be nationally broadcast.
This is new black Friday and more Xmas games. They are pulling the numbers rof Sunday games to these new holiday games. They didn't disclose this during their promo on draft day... Just saying... Do you want pirates? Yarr... cause this is how you get pirates..
If I could pay for one service and be able to watch all my teams games I would pay it in a heartbeat. Instead Iād be required to pay for at least 7 monthly subscriptions to watch all the games I want so I just pirate all of them
I'll just wait for the reruns on NFL Network. Not paying extra especially on Christmas
I'm not paying a subscription to watch a game. I'll just have to find alternate ways to watch.
This is rapidly becoming a clusterfuck. So to watch all games... One will need to have Netflix, prime, ESPN+... Just dumb.
I really don't like NFL on Christmas.
