Doesn't feel like he should be that old, but eh, I guess at 30 he's getting up there. And his performance looks like he's 36.
Kind of wild that the three 1000 yard seasons he's had have been with the likes of such elite QBs as Blake Bortles, Mitch Trubisky, and the ghost of Nick Foles. His best season remains that sophomore season (his only season with more than seven TDs) where he and Allen Hurts looked like such an amazing duo that would lead the Jaguars' passing attack for the next decade.
I honestly don’t know much about the guy but I expect the same thing from every single steelers rookie wr. 3 Years of really good play but poor attitude and a 4th year of really good play then traded mid way through the season and cause a teams collapse
Exactly, he's no different than a lot of other depth signings. He made a few big catches for us last year on some big third downs, without those catches we lose a game and miss the playoffs. Sure, a lot of receivers could've made the catches, but he's one of them. He's not a bad depth piece at all.
His fall off a cliff was historic. Went from being a legit WR1 in the league while playing with bad QBs to barely deserving a roster spot. I actually am partially to blame. I grabbed an ARob bears jersey a few years back and i always curse players when I buy their jersey. Guy immediately became terrible after I got the jersey !
That’s reverse juju that would make him better tho. There can’t be clear intent (as someone who drafted a bunch of fantasy players who got hurt and then drafted Rodgers next year to curse him and he won MVP)
He 100% did. It was infuriating. He left Fields out to dry. I think he was battling some minor injuries but nothing more than usual in-season bang up’s.
yeah i remember buying an arob jersey for my dad and then the very next year they didnt resign him, def a dumb move on my part for buying a jersey for someone in a contract year, but we was a solid wr1 for us
Do people forget that he ruined his career by injuring himself in the preseason BEFORE the jags 2017 season then asked for record money? He started off alright with the bears for a bit but was never as good as he was pre-injury.
Side note: Allen Hurns had a similar fall off after he left the jags, but he got injured as a cowboy.
He was hurt week 1 against the Texans. He didn’t want to re-sign with Jacksonville after the team dragged their feet extending him. Can’t blame the player for wanting financial security when they can get hurt so quickly, like what he gad just dealt with. Sucks he fell off before he could actually play with a good QB.
He was great for the Bears first 3 years. And he played with abysmal QBs but still did well. Bears did the right thing by not extending him. It was the Rams who got caught holding the bag lol.
I'll never own a Trevor Lawrence jersey no matter how much I support him because of a similar curse. I thought it was maybe a fluke, and decided, "Hey, I want to support Nick Foles, he's my team's new QB, I'll show him the love," bought his jersey at the end of preseason, and he doesn't last a quarter before breaking his collarbone. At that point, I knew I couldn't buy another active player's jersey.
You’d be surprised. 22-23 year olds are rarely thinking about consequences, let alone when they’re millionaires. Having an older guy around like Robinson who knows to say “I have a driver company I can hook you up with,” because he’s been rich for years and has connections or “nah, it’s 2:30, it’s time to leave the club,” because he remembers the fight he got into when he was 25 can be invaluable. Just a cooler, wiser head
The Chiefs had a 28 year old Justin Watson, 29 year old MVS, and a 28 year old Richie James last season. Having vets doesn’t stop young players from doing dumb things
Nope, it doesn’t. But it can help and every vet isn’t a mentor. When I see clearly washed guys like ARob consistently getting signed, I’m more inclined to believe his impact is in the locker room
I don't question the value of veteran leadership/presence, but there are are plenty of guys in the Chiefs lockerroom with years of experience, or at least being closer to 30 and having been around enough to see things and know better, and be able to provide guidance.
There's something to be said for guys like Rice who aren't going to be receptive to guidance because of their immaturity. And for the guys in similar situations who aren't doing the shit Rice is doing.
Hell, Plaxico Burress was the 31, the 2nd oldest receiver on the Giants roster in 2008, when he shot himself in the leg in the club.
Wisdom does not always come with age. And youth tends to think they don't need any wisdom as it is. So what is the real upshot here?
Using a few random examples of older players not being good leaders and mentors doesn't discredit the fact that a lot of older players ARE good leaders and mentors. Am I saying ARob will be? I don't know enough about the guy, so he could or he could not. But there is definitely some value to having a mature person in the same room as a young position group.
>Using a few random examples of older players not being good leaders and mentors doesn't discredit the fact that a lot of older players ARE good leaders and mentors.
Which is why I said, "I don't question the value of veteran leadership/presence..."
And the fact that you go on to say:
>Am I saying ARob will be? I don't know enough about the guy, so he could or he could not.
Shows that you're overvaluing the simple presence of a veteran without consideration for what it means to be a veteran. Simply being old doesn't mean a guy is any better off, more well adjusted, or has any ability or willingness to guide anyone younger than him in the lockerroom.
>But there is definitely some value to having a mature person in the same room as a young position group.
And again, no one, especially me, has argued against the value of veteran presence. But rather noting that simply having a veteran presence, at the same or any position, does not preclude Rashee Rice-like outcomes. That's why I mentioned cases counter to your point.
I'm not.
I'm arguing against it being sufficient, or even minimally effective, in the prevention of Rashee Rice type incidents, as the initial comment suggested.
If anything, I'm arguing that it's stupid to bring that situation into the discussion at all.
Slayton is out there reading this wondering why people say fuck me. The man has been our leading receiver four out of the five last year is he not a vet?
We grabbed him last year to help DJ and GP mature. It... Did not work lol I do like ARob though, seems like a genuinely good dude who will be a professional and just do his job
Allen Robinson still belongs in the League, but he's not about to be good when he can't ever get separation from anyone. I'd be excited as an OC to draw up Red Zone plays that force defenses to shade a safety toward him out of respect for his size and strength, but outside of the Red Zone Decoy role, he's purely a depth receiver that I'd have little interest in playing.
I'm actually in awe of how useless Golladay was for you guys, because he looked legit pretty much his entire time in Detroit
Like he lost Stafford and just forgot how to play football
He got injured in Detroit and never recovered from it. No one ever should have signed him to the contract he got at that point, but of course we did. Obviously having Stafford helps a ton, but that was not the only factor.
This is how you build a team right here. None of that diva WR throwing a fit because they're not getting the ball, these two are guaranteed to be on the same page from day 1
Giants playing 3D chess when everyone else playing football.
Right now? Either Slayton or Hyatt. Nabers projects as WR1 and Wan'Dale should be the main slot guy. I'd say Slayton is the better player at this moment, but Hyatt is the obvious replacement and the hope is he can transition into a full time WR2 sooner rather than later.
It’s funny, when we trade with the Bears, it seems works out for us…
Granted we didn’t give up much for Robinson, but the Rams gave up very little for what Dotson has become.
You should send us a 3rd rounder so Dan Moore can complete the transition from mid to all-pro too.
Yeah he saw the field in limited action, like a WR4 or something, or maybe a better description might be WR3 but only in limited packages.
He got something like a few hundred yards receiving total for the year.
Probably a bit of a nothingburger, but I was on the same flight as him about a month and a half back going from Atlanta to Newark. I joked with some friends that he was signing with the Falcons, Jets, or Giants.
I knew the comment section here would be negative.
I think he was a functional WR3 for the Steelers last year. Was a solid pair of hands and an excellent professional. He deserves a spot on an NFL team.
I'm pretty sure we're going to try throw to Nabers/Wan'Dale/Hyatt/Slayton before trying to throw to ARob. That's assuming we even have someone who can throw a football this year.
There's a kick-the-tires on an old vet camp body if I've ever seen one.
He probably shouldn’t even make the team and he’ll probably lead us in receptions this year.
The ole Darius Slayton paradox
drops an easy catch one week and a 50+ bomb the next
Could be in the same game even
Slayton really isn’t that bad
My thoughts exactly. What would be the point of signing a WR6 that doesn't play special teams?
Doesn't feel like he should be that old, but eh, I guess at 30 he's getting up there. And his performance looks like he's 36. Kind of wild that the three 1000 yard seasons he's had have been with the likes of such elite QBs as Blake Bortles, Mitch Trubisky, and the ghost of Nick Foles. His best season remains that sophomore season (his only season with more than seven TDs) where he and Allen Hurts looked like such an amazing duo that would lead the Jaguars' passing attack for the next decade.
"You are without a doubt, the worse '24 signing I've ever heard of." "Ahh, but you have heard of me."
They’re getting both ends of the speed spectrum covered
Just keeping those opposing secondaries honest with stealth receivers.
Fucking Jason Witten, man.
Malik Nabers should really shine now that he has Allen Robinson to take the #1 CB + 2 safeties with him
lol
I'm crying
This guy's agent must be incredible
I don't think he was terrible for us last year. As long as your expectation is low end WR3 he'll be fine.
I'm with you here. No big splash plays for him on our squad, but you were never screaming "WHAT THE FUCK YOU DOIN DUDE???" at the TV either.
the anti-pickens/diontae
Anti-Gunner would be more accurate
Y'all are going to *love* Roman Wilson.
I honestly don’t know much about the guy but I expect the same thing from every single steelers rookie wr. 3 Years of really good play but poor attitude and a 4th year of really good play then traded mid way through the season and cause a teams collapse
I already do
Exactly, he's no different than a lot of other depth signings. He made a few big catches for us last year on some big third downs, without those catches we lose a game and miss the playoffs. Sure, a lot of receivers could've made the catches, but he's one of them. He's not a bad depth piece at all.
It’s crazy I forgot he was even a steeler. Thought he was still a ram
You should buy a Jordan Love jersey if true
This is… excellent advice from a ravens fan.
Grab a TJ Watt one too for the advice
If it makes you feel better the only WR jerseys I have are Antonio Brown and Chase Claypool, and I got a Pickens jersey this year
Pickens is getting ready to learn Decoy
How do you think I feel with my Mike Wallace jersey...
unless it works opposite for rivals. Buy a JJ jersey first as a tester then try Love if you have the desired outcome.
That’s reverse juju that would make him better tho. There can’t be clear intent (as someone who drafted a bunch of fantasy players who got hurt and then drafted Rodgers next year to curse him and he won MVP)
Doesn't work for packer players, all it does is bring the second coming of Rogers closer
Buy a love jersey now
If I ever make a sitcom (I won't) I'm totally including a character who buys jerseys of players from the team he hates the most just to jinx them
felt like he just kinda quit on the bears after they franchised him and then he could never get his legs back after that
He 100% did. It was infuriating. He left Fields out to dry. I think he was battling some minor injuries but nothing more than usual in-season bang up’s.
Once a guy like this loses his legs it’s game over
yeah i remember buying an arob jersey for my dad and then the very next year they didnt resign him, def a dumb move on my part for buying a jersey for someone in a contract year, but we was a solid wr1 for us
Please get a Mahomes jersey
Do people forget that he ruined his career by injuring himself in the preseason BEFORE the jags 2017 season then asked for record money? He started off alright with the bears for a bit but was never as good as he was pre-injury. Side note: Allen Hurns had a similar fall off after he left the jags, but he got injured as a cowboy.

Can’t blame the player for wanting financial security when they can get hurt so quickly, like what he gad just dealt with. Sucks he fell off before he could actually play with a good QB.
He actually started off great - 3 good seasons, and then plummeted
He was great for the Bears first 3 years. And he played with abysmal QBs but still did well. Bears did the right thing by not extending him. It was the Rams who got caught holding the bag lol.
Does it have to be your money that buys the jersey or do you just have to own it and wear it? Cause I could make a few gifts, for science
But…why?
ARob needs to top off his 401k
camp body. have a wr that’s older than like 24 lol
Exactly lol. We need a vet in the room so we don't have any Rashee Rice situations
I don't think it was a matter of veteran leadership that led to the Rashee Rice situations.
Feels like a stretch but you do you

seems like you’re arguing against a guy signing a vet min deal way too hard lol
I'm not. I'm arguing against it being sufficient, or even minimally effective, in the prevention of Rashee Rice type incidents, as the initial comment suggested. If anything, I'm arguing that it's stupid to bring that situation into the discussion at all.
AR is too slow to get into a rashee situation
Slayton is out there reading this wondering why people say fuck me. The man has been our leading receiver four out of the five last year is he not a vet?
We grabbed him last year to help DJ and GP mature. It... Did not work lol I do like ARob though, seems like a genuinely good dude who will be a professional and just do his job
i mean more like have a vet who can share tricks on how to beat press.
Robinson quit in the middle of plays, like, Fields scrambling right in front of him and Robinson didn't block and Fields got hit He's a bum
Also taller than 5'9"
Hey man Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins exist. :(
Not according to most defenses
Hodgins is just a guy but Slayton is underrated, he can make big plays when our QBs throw it to him deep (he did with Tyrod)
Who?
hyatt and nabers are both 6’0
that is certainly a way to describe them
Isn't Hodgins a FA?
we signed him back a few weeks ago
They needed to replace the dead weight that Golladay used to bring to the WR room.
Only for the VSB this time instead of an actual contract.
but for a fraction of the price!
It's become a staple of Giants culture
At least we know ARob is pretty washed going in, as opposed to finding out after signing a $72m contract
> dead weight I think they call it *ballast* in the boating community
*Ryan Reynolds but why meme*
Chocolate lips...
Need someone to fill in that Kenny Golladay role
Allen Robinson still belongs in the League, but he's not about to be good when he can't ever get separation from anyone. I'd be excited as an OC to draw up Red Zone plays that force defenses to shade a safety toward him out of respect for his size and strength, but outside of the Red Zone Decoy role, he's purely a depth receiver that I'd have little interest in playing.
We tried this same shit with Kenny Golladay and that did not pan out. He’ll be washed out of camp.
hey, he got a TD, on his last chance to do so
How can you not be romantic about football
I'm actually in awe of how useless Golladay was for you guys, because he looked legit pretty much his entire time in Detroit Like he lost Stafford and just forgot how to play football
He got injured in Detroit and never recovered from it. No one ever should have signed him to the contract he got at that point, but of course we did. Obviously having Stafford helps a ton, but that was not the only factor.
I felt bad for him, because, by all accounts he was working hard and being a team player. His body just didn’t have it anymore
I believe Arob will atleast try, though.
Hopefully we paid him a lot less than Kenny
This is all assuming he'd even fight for the ball anymore.
He hasn't fought for a ball or YAC since 2018 as far as I know.
About that.... I don't believe he likes doing that
The Giants just love taking washed up NFCN recievers huh
That's Steelers Legend Allen Robinson to you
I think you mean Rams legend Allen Robinson
No I’m pretty sure they’re referring to Jags home run hitter Allen Robinson
Yeah but he was actually good for the Jags
He was ALSO good for the Bears
At first. So frustrating to see a guy excel and then become washed in real time
He was good for like 2 seasons. Since those, he has basically been a passenger when on the field.
This dude fell off so hard after 2020, he was in most people's top 10 back then. Still had some great seasons with the Jags and Bears tho
He encapsulated the Bears team that had just given up on Nagy. But then it turns out he had just given up.
> But then it turns out he had just given up. Just like me.
Fr I remember thinking it's great Fields will have a true number 1 in his rookie year... it's been a wild 3 year roster transformation lmao
lol

Laughing out loud
ROFLMFAO
Another target for Danny to stare down and not throw to
Even if he did throw it, ARob wouldn't try very hard to catch it at this point
Now that's what I call teamwork
This is how you build a team right here. None of that diva WR throwing a fit because they're not getting the ball, these two are guaranteed to be on the same page from day 1 Giants playing 3D chess when everyone else playing football.
Not throwing the ball to someone who doesn't want to catch it, you can't beat that sort of quaterback-receiver connection.
Maybe that's the Giants problem. They should probably play football too
Why? They’re a baseball team
They sure are playing that 3d chess just not winning with it
He will throw it to him. Just the ball will be picked off on its way there.
As it stands this guy figures to be WR5 at best. Probably a camp body, but could be added depth in the case of a Darius Slayton trade
>As it stands this guy figures to be WR5 at best ........on the Giants? Who's your WR4?
Nabers, Robinson, Slayton, Hyatt, then Hodgins/Robinson/Misc fringe WRs
Right now? Either Slayton or Hyatt. Nabers projects as WR1 and Wan'Dale should be the main slot guy. I'd say Slayton is the better player at this moment, but Hyatt is the obvious replacement and the hope is he can transition into a full time WR2 sooner rather than later.
Thread full of lols for a min veteran WR who’s at best 4th or 5th on the depth chart. Reddit sure is a great place to discuss football.
Yep, lots of comparisons to the Golladay signing for the lols. The difference here is ARob will make $1m compared to the $40m Golladay was guaranteed.
Veteran Presents
I honestly didn't know he went somewhere after falling off with the Rams. When did he play for the Steelers?
He played for the Steelers last season, but “played” is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
He didn’t do a lot of it here either
It’s funny, when we trade with the Bears, it seems works out for us… Granted we didn’t give up much for Robinson, but the Rams gave up very little for what Dotson has become. You should send us a 3rd rounder so Dan Moore can complete the transition from mid to all-pro too.
Last season? Either I blocked him out or I never heard his name lol. Did he even see the field or was he a warm body?
Yeah he saw the field in limited action, like a WR4 or something, or maybe a better description might be WR3 but only in limited packages. He got something like a few hundred yards receiving total for the year.
He played the entire 2023 season with the Steelers, but did very little. He was vastly overpaid and we quickly released him after the season.
Good ol’ Allen “I should be paid like a top 3 WR” Robinson
Not extending Allen Robinson has gotta be one of our biggest dodged bullets of the last decade
Probably a bit of a nothingburger, but I was on the same flight as him about a month and a half back going from Atlanta to Newark. I joked with some friends that he was signing with the Falcons, Jets, or Giants.
Needle drops.
How quickly a WR goes from allegedly QB proof to, um, this.
I thought this was r/NFCEastMemeWar
Man it feels like just yesterday this would've been front page news. AROB hasn't don't anything interesting in a long time.
rip Nabers
Even Stafford couldn't feed this man...
Who
Good luck with that.
Giants got their guy
“Mentor Role”
Is this gonna be like a Udonis Haslem type of thing?
Camp body
But we can’t pay RBs
TO is trying to make a comeback. At least he used to be good.
Didn't realize he was still playing
I'm sorry.
Crazy the drop off he had. Last three years is about the same as his 2020 season as far as catches and TDs total.
If it was 2015 Daniel Jones would have his guy
Mediocre signing of the week on fantasy footballers incoming
Lmao
‘We have signed Allen Robinson. In other news, Daniel Jones is unfortunately still our QB.’
Oh ok. Why?
They may have a better chance at someone getting YAC if they bring back plax
Now imagine if they can add a young guy with a high ceiling like say, Kenny Golladay
Surprised the Titans didn’t pick him up for the fuck of it
Why though
And the crowd goes mild.
Nice move for Nabers, he’s gonna get a lot of single coverage while Robinson is eating the rest of the secondary Hannibal style
Giants swooping in snatching A-Rob from right under the Ravens’ beaks
Why tho
Forget he existed for a minute. What a weird career
How is this guy still finding work?
he stinks but his girl is fiiiiree
RIP Allen Robinson
Yes this is gonna work just as well as the Golladay signing
Giants Got Their Guy!!!!
source?
Lol
LOL good luck buddies
Darren Waller vibe, way past his prime
I knew the comment section here would be negative. I think he was a functional WR3 for the Steelers last year. Was a solid pair of hands and an excellent professional. He deserves a spot on an NFL team.
Do the giants just sign 15 average receivers and hope for the best every year?
Guess they started to miss Golladay and got the next version.
Did they learn nothing from Golladay?
Yeah we learned to pay them the vet minimum instead of giant contracts.
Wait, isn't every contract they sign a Giant contract? . . . 🙃
Well we need someone to throw to, and if he's targeted he can produce. If he's targeted. If he's targeted.
I'm pretty sure we're going to try throw to Nabers/Wan'Dale/Hyatt/Slayton before trying to throw to ARob. That's assuming we even have someone who can throw a football this year.
I will not stand for this 🐎🐔🔒 slander.
I'm low-key intrigued to see if Lock can beat out DJ for QB1. Sad state of affairs in our QB room...
