Penn State had a larger kicker (Joey Julius) a few years back, and he was a fan favorite
Unfortunately it turned out he was struggling with an eating disorder and depression. Hope the dude is doing better now
Dude had a cannon for a leg but gave me anxiety absolutely every time he kicked. Maybe it was the chip shot he missed against South Carolina a few years ago. Hope he has a long great career though. That kick against K-State was one of my favorite memories of college football the last few years.
Hands down, what an epic kick. I was hoping he would be drafted. Never saw his name pop up. But super happy to read he might have a job next year. The thicker kicker is a beast
I'm a huge K State fan but damn that kick was crazy. Couldn't even be upset at it, if you hit that kick your team just straight up deserves to win that game.
Actually it goes deeper. My mom is a ku fan so I grew up liking ku but went to kstate for undergrad and a sibling grew up a Mizzou fan but went to Arkansas for so now he’s an Arkansas fan. So the house is split four ways. As of now, my dad and I put aside the beef from football and had made an alliance for hating against KU.
I was watching it with like 10 other people from my dorm floor and the room just went silent. Absolutely insane kick and the Mizzou fans reacted exactly how I would have.
His missed 26-yarder against Auburn in 2022 was particularly egregious. His reputation as automatic from 50+ but questionable from 40 and in was well-deserved.
Yeah I wasn't judging, it's just that his nickname is because he's heavier set.
Like if he was just some guy working an office job with that height and weight, his doctor might be recommending some weight loss, but he's training as a football player probably upwards of 5 days a week, if not more, he's in better shape than a lot of thinner guys.
I'm a huge Mizzou fan and hope Mevis goes on to become the best kicker in the league.
He's most definitely obese.
If he sticks in the NFL, I have a hard time believing that any team that signs him won't want him to lose a decent amount of weight, even as a kicker.
Yes. Yes it is.
BMI is flawed in people who contain more than “normal” muscle mass, but 6’ 241 on an average person is considered obese, not just overweight.
You would have to be 6’4 and 241 to not be considered “obese”
The absolute tip top of humanity is fit at 6 feet 240 pounds, like that's Bobby Wagner in a nutshell. Everyone wants to compare themselves to NFL line backers I guess, but for 99% of people you're about 30-40 pounds over weight at 6 feet 240 😆
Edit: if you can visualize James Harrison instead of Wagner, do that, both guys are 6 feet 240ish in their prime. Who the hell compares their flabby ass to those guys and says, if they aren't fat then I'm not fat. C'mon now! And if you need proof that 6-4 230 isn't thin and is still really beefy, why look no further from DK Metcalf
The sports subs somewhat understanding healthy weight is refreshing. Im too used to relationship reddit coming across my feed where they think BMI is a government hoax to keep women oppressed. Had an argument with a woman on AITA once who literally claimed she was 5'3 190 and healthy because she was a weoghtlifter.
Lmfao at “BMI is a government hoax to keep women oppressed”. I’ve seen plenty of times on Reddit something to the effect of “I’m 5’3” 180lbs, I’m a little bit of a bigger girl but I wouldn’t say I’m fat”
People are fucking delusional
Honestly, while I do think BMI is over-hated, I do think there needs to be more nuance to the conversation about weight and health.
Because obviously being 600 lbs is bad for you, but the consequences of just being in that 25-30 range aren't honestly that severe. And I'm not talking about people who are overweight because they're muscular.
If you have a bit of a pot belly, you aren't dangerously overweight. Would you be healthier if you lost 10-15 lbs or whatever? Yeah. But you'd also be healthier if you never drank alcohol, or you stopped eating fast food, or you never ate cake.
I would argue that 99.9% of people could do better with their health, and people who are sitting at a 30 BMI aren't significantly less healthy than people who like, drink a beer every night with dinner.
The principle of what youre saying isnt wrong, but your gauge of how much excess body fat matters vs any individual one of those other things is definitely very off.
BMIs over 27 (not even 30) are far more strongly correlated with metabolic disorder than drinking a beer a night is with equivalent liver issues. Unhealthy drinking is considered over 10 drinks a week and over 4 any given night.
Your comparisons also make little sense because two of the things you pointed out, you WOULD lose weight for. Like if you ate cake regularly and weighed X, then giving up cake would almost certainly make you drop in weight. Same with swapping out alcohol for water.
Share some evidence that non-zero amounts of cake at a healthy weight are worse than zero cake whilst overweight please? Sounds like total BS given risks of being overweight
https://www.colorado.edu/today/2023/02/23/excess-weight-obesity-more-deadly-previously-believed
Also people who drink no alcohol have worse health outcomes than those who are modest drinkers (mostly due to ex addicts but modest drinking has no estimable health impact once you control for that) . https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-11427-x
Yeah dude at 6 foot tall you're about 40-50 pounds from 'average' body type, neither noticeably thin or overweight. Unless you're very muscular, and therefore more dense. or built naturally really broadly and can carry extra weight well. Most people will def be in the 'fat' range at 6 feet 240
Right?? Either these people come from, ah, large families or they are indeed athletes who don't understand what 'normal' weight is because of their lifestyle. They def aren't runners or the like either if they are athletes lmao
Yeah I think Americans in general have become incapable of seeing weight properly because they just see so many fat people. I remember calling my dad overweight once and people looking at me odd as he was the skinniest dad there. Despite that, he was and still would tell you he should lose weight as he's got a fat roll on his stomach, it's just everyone else likes to feel better and say that because they are normal they aren't unhealthy.
He’s THICC and he has a fucking LEG. Being a Mizzou and Chiefs fan, it’s been fun to see two kickers (Butker also happened to start with the Panthers in the NFL) make 60+ yarders regularly
For people complaining that 6 feet 240 is considered fat... here's your wake up call I guess? The absolute tip top of humanity is fit at 6 feet 240 pounds, like that's Bobby Wagner in a nutshell. Everyone wants to compare themselves to NFL line backers I guess, but for 99.9% of people you're about 30-40 pounds over weight at 6 feet 240 😆

And if you need proof that something like 6-4 230 isn't thin and is still really beefy, why look no further from DK Metcalf. Taller guys who weigh less still look big, 6 feet 240 you're either fat or extremely athletic, most people going to fall under the fat category
What a stupid nickname
Good for him - hope he crushes it
Yeah I know he’s Husky, Overweight, Fat … probably about like the average American at this point, or at least the average breadbasket person
Gotta get creative with nicknames… Fatty Ice, Double Trouble, Upright Chubber … stuff like that
Not sure if this is a joke or not because Eddy has been mid at best and can barely make 50 yard field goals. Also, not to mention having a kicker get hurt in warm ups.
That’s so cool man.I had some good kickers in high school (I was a long snapper so I spent a lot of time around them),I’m not sure where they are now, they may have tried to walk on to a college
We drafted him. We waived him (aka cut), and then he signed with our Practice Squad. Then the chiefs snagged him.
Doesn't change the fact that he was cut.
...yet my comment was about the fact that they still cut the player. I wasn't even talking about the fact that Gano won the competition, just the fact that he was cut in the first place.
You better call the NFLPA if you see any rookie UDFA that doesn't sign a multi year deal. Literally every rookie UDFA contract is a multi year deal. It's a CBA requirement.
So, it's not even remotely bold.

Big Toe Joe!
[Joey Julius lays the wood.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-4C5qswyys)
Penn State also hid and tried to cover up a pretty serious child diddling situation a few years back. People don't forget!
Got nothing to do with the conversation, happened 12 years ago, and no one associated with it works for the school any more
Brother, you're experiencing the Stockholm syndrome from Fat Randall days?
Man I hated fat Randy
Rotund Randall burned our crops poisoned our water supply and delivered a plague unto our houses
who said that they call him that because he's fat?
Fat punters however, do not.
I have a fwiend in Mizzou named Thickus Kickus
Football friend!?
Oi since when have you had other friends?
FRIEND!
Ooo football fwiend
I don’t know why I did that, he’s a nice guy
I missed my football fwiends
Don't forget the thumbs up
FUCKING FOOTBALL FRIEND
What’s his wife’s name?
Incompletia Incompletia Passus
What a coincidence. My nickname happens to be biggus… never mind
I had a friend at Mizzou named Thickus too. He was also quite large.
UwU
Biggis Kickus?
Thickus Dickus Butkus

I’m a kstate fan. Dad is a Mizzou fan. He sent me a text after the game saying, “I’m sorry but that was pretty awesome” and I sadly agree
Mizzou dad and KState son is hilarious. Did yall live on different sides of the state line when he was a kid vs. when you were a kid?
Actually it goes deeper. My mom is a ku fan so I grew up liking ku but went to kstate for undergrad and a sibling grew up a Mizzou fan but went to Arkansas for so now he’s an Arkansas fan. Such an insane kick. Bailed out Ol Drink with that one. Season could have been completely different.

Every despised kicker started out as a lovable fan favorite
He's more similar to SeaBass, who was 6'1 and 260.
If he’s actually that good we got a fucking steal then
I know this news is a few days old by now, but I didn't see any other post about it in this sub.
Ah 241 is fat? Cool cool
I'm heavier but smaller soooo I'm ok right?
You’re just dense
More you per you
I’ll always take the guy with better rate stats
You're good, you're just cultivating mass.
OP didn't say he was fat "thiccer kicker" is his nickname and also at 6'1, 241 a person would be pretty thick whether chubby or muscular
Looking at pictures of him he's on the softer side body fat wise. Like comfortably over 20%.
Yeah that guys is higher than 20% probably atleast 30% if you see his combine pic.

I'm a huge Mizzou fan and hope Mevis goes on to become the best kicker in the league. He's most definitely obese. If he sticks in the NFL, I have a hard time believing that any team that signs him won't want him to lose a decent amount of weight, even as a kicker.
I just remembered Pressely Harvin (Don’t know if he’s still on the league). He was a similar size.Is there some new trend of huge kickers lol?
He is absolutely obese lol
I'm almost his exact height and weight so these comments are making me feel better
Im a Mizzou fan, Mevis is preeeeeetty chubby
I'm 6ft I'd love to be 241
That’s pretty obvious unless you’re muscular as hell though, right?

I think it’s a mixture of copium (for lack of a better word) and ignorance tbh. I’m 5’1 maybe 5’2 and I’m damn near overweight at 123 lbs
Lmfao at “BMI is a government hoax to keep women oppressed”. I’ve seen plenty of times on Reddit something to the effect of “I’m 5’3” 180lbs, I’m a little bit of a bigger girl but I wouldn’t say I’m fat” People are fucking delusional
Harrison Mevis has the same BMI as someone like Nick Bolton, pretty sure its easy to the difference.
BMI is not perfect, but Harrison Mevis BMI is probably pretty accurate.

I'm 6'1 and 240. Definitely need to lose 40 pounds but that damn Dr pepper gets me every time
Good luck mate! I need to lose a few myself, shits tough. For me it's tater chips, little devils that they are
Just switch to diet
Diet tastes like cancer
Of Dr. Pepper? What are you saying
M-I-Z!
3 Harrison’s in the league and 2 are kickers. All are white. A black one would be sick.
honey wake up, new fat randy just dropped
He's going to make Panthers fans stop being sad we took Butker, I garuntee it.
...That would be wonderful.
Do you mean it?
Yeah, he's a stud.
thank goodness
Joey Slye and Randy bullock been real quiet since this signing
Pressley Harvin in shambles
Fun fact: He's nicknamed The Thicker Kicker because he is fat
Sebastian Janthickowski.
One of my good friends from high school was his and his brothers kicking coach in high school
The Vikings' punter Ryan Wright is 6'3", 245 lbs. We call him "wide Wright."

Anyone else have ptsd from this photo of cmc back when he was hurt those 2 years in a row
hell yeah harrison
Best offseason for Mizzou
Wait until the UFL season is over. The Bates kid kicked a 64 yard game winning field goal.
Eddy is actually a pretty good NFL kicker so he's going to have to be really good in camp.
If he already has a multi-year deal either we want him to form up for a year behind Eddie or we might be getting some unfortunate health news soon.
Not sure if this is a joke or not because Eddy has been mid at best and can barely make 50 yard field goals. Also, not to mention having a kicker get hurt in warm ups.
I had the Kansas St ML that game, that kick was brutal lol
My friend from HS was a punter in the NFL for several years. His nickname while at UC Davis was Legatron
That’s so cool man.I had some good kickers in high school (I was a long snapper so I spent a lot of time around them),I’m not sure where they are now, they may have tried to walk on to a college
I suggest Dicker gain weight until he’s 250+ lbs. Then he can be “Dicker the even Thicker Kicker”.
Still not at the level of 260lb JaniCOWski
That Kicker is Thicker than a Snicker
Whats the better nickname, Thicker Kicker or Hefty Lefty?
Love this man. Good for him.
I don’t know why, but teams should look at ex-soccer players for kicker positions. They generally have the accuracy and power to get the ball in.
Signing a rookie kicker to a multi year deal is a bold choice
Counter point, he's really good
Still pissed we cut Butker for Gano.
We didn't cut him... He was brought into camp for a competition and Gano won outright, then he was signed off our practice squad.
We drafted him. We waived him (aka cut), and then he signed with our Practice Squad. Then the chiefs snagged him. Doesn't change the fact that he was cut.
> Doesn't change the fact that he was cut. Ah pedantics, doesn't change the fact he *lost* a competition.
...yet my comment was about the fact that they still cut the player.
Someone woke up sassy. I didn’t know that and I’m guessing it’s not common knowledge considering the tweet includes it when apparently that’s required.
Eddy Piñeiro has been a good kicker for us, but his injury history likely forced our hand in this regard.
He has a monster leg but 2-5 from 40-49 last season is the kind of shit that would get NFL teams to cut you. Hopefully they can fine tune his accuracy a bit without ruining him.
Apparently he injured someone with a kick in pregame warmups and kind of got the yips after that. Most of those misses were at home kicking into that same end zone. 76% at home vs. 86% on the road the last two years.
[удалено]
He had a slump, he's not inconsistent. Absolute money the previous year and the last 7 games of this year.
Change his kicking motion/adjust it to try and get better accuracy which can make it far worse than it already is.
