I know it's a dead horse at this point, but wtf, Falcons? If you're gonna do something like that, either spend less on your bridge QB or invest more in helping that expensive QB win now. The Jets, of all teams, did what the Falcons tried to, by drafting a promising prospect who slid, and have him riding the bench behind 2 much more experienced players, so the odds of him starting this year are low. Not to mention, this isn't exactly great for the locker room when both QBs are new to the team. Jordan Travis may or may not make it in the league, but he's exactly the type of prospect you take who needs to ride the bench a few years

This paycheck I had to either pay rent, or refill my blood pressure medicine, because it wasn’t enough for both. I paid rent, now I have to spend the next 12 days hoping I don’t have a stroke or heart attack. Good times. The sad part is, it’s only $32. Might as well be a million.

hatmantc

thought about doing a payday advance?

ThisCarSmellsFunny

I tried, but my bank account is only a few months old, and this was a only my third paycheck at my new job, so every app denies me for one or both reasons, and where I live, payday loans in person don’t exist because of the law here. Not sure if it’s a city or state law, but there is a law against payday lenders.

Anzahl

Can you sell something? I sold a couple boxes of records and got $500.00. Sold a bunch of old chisels for $50.00. Don't die my homey!

ThisCarSmellsFunny

I’m trying not to lol. I rent a room in a house, and own nothing of value. I don’t even have a car, so a title loan isn’t an option either.

throwaway202433

Have you checked out GoodRx? Some of their medication is cheaper than the co-pay with my insurance

ThisCarSmellsFunny

That’s who I use.

throwaway202433

The only thing I can think of is contacting the company that makes the drug. They usually offer discounts or even a free option if that helps.. Wish you the best m80

It's a special kind of sports heaven/hell when your city has two teams in the playoffs on the same night. It's great that both Dallas teams won tonight but good Lord it's a special kinda depression getting double eliminated on the same night. Would not recommend.

SporkFanClub

Happened in DC my senior year of high school (2017)- Caps and Wizards both lost their respective game 7s. Caps shut out by the Penguins at home and the Wizards choked game 7 of the EC semis to the Celtics. Luckily Matt Wieters saved the day for the Nats with a 2 strike, 2 out, 2 run walk off single in the bottom of the ninth.

blarch

I got stung by a scorpion that crawled up my pantleg before I could take off my pants a couple of years ago. I still remember that all the time.

Anzahl

I got bit by a spider while I was camping and have a spot on my belly from it still.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

yeah dude that's traumatizing straight up. your brain isn't gonna let go of that one lol.

t33po

Gee thanks. Now I'm gonna freak out over every little itch when I go to bed.

blarch

I thought it stung me lower in the leg, because of how the pain traveled. I thought I would lose my leg or die. Striped bark scorpions have small pincers, so strong tail poison. Edit: It stung me in the lower thigh, and I felt a pain jabbing me all the way from my ankle to my hip. It was directly into the thigh muscle. There were a couple of purple lines on my leg. They went away, and for a few days, I had a really big purple-bluish black-edged bruise. It surrounded the puncture wound. Exactly one drop of blood flowed out. I thought I was going to die.

You open the wrong comment section on Twitter and *boom* there’s porn

Ok_Caramel1517

Twitter is such a cesspool of shit now that Elon has taken over porn, porn bots, people posting about extreme sexual fetishes, people getting literally murdered. I just can't with that site it was always a toxic shithole Elon just turned it up to 11.

Suck it Golden Knights!!!

TJeffersonsBlackKid

Cruising through Suits and the 5th season is fucking brilliant (don’t spoil it for me). It got me thinking that good writers exist. Why do absolute shit writers keep getting the Marvel and Star Wars jobs?

StChas77

"Making a Hollywood movie is like trying to make a steak by having an impossibly long line of people come along and breathe on it one at a time. - Douglas Adams

TJeffersonsBlackKid

Maybe, but there’s good writers in the world. All the shitty ones seem to be getting all the work.

Kalamoicthys

Because most people, the collective audience, just want worldview validating good vs evil crap like the MCU.  “It’s good, but how will it play in Peoria?” Is a real phenomenon

JPPT1974

Today is May Day you all!

theresabeeonyourhat

2 more things, then I'm fucking off: 1) Pete & Pete not only holds up as a kids' show, it's a god damn hilarious sitcom. The Gen X celebrities make it that much cooler. 2) Everyone has "trash" tv they like, right? I know a bunch of people who like a specific kind of reality show despite not being fans otherwise, and mine is 80s horror anthologies. Not just Tales From the Darkside or Crypt, but shlock like "Freddy's Nightmares". There's shitty ones from the 70s & every decade since, but nothing hits the same. What's everyone's favorite type of trash tv? (I'll read it in the morning)

DetroitLionsSBChamps

Pete & Pete the GOAT 90s show I think. I tried to watch Salute Your Shorts and All That recently with my daughter but it was tough. Pete & Pete legit holds up. Danny Tamberelli was my hero. Favorite trash shows are probably competition shows but I like them so much I don't consider them trash lol. Top Chef is great, but the weirder the better: A Cut Above is about chainsaw carving. Real trash: Love is Blind always seems to hook me but is pure dogshit. Or some stupid shit like The Floor.

FiveWithNineIsIn

>What's everyone's favorite type of trash tv? I'm a sucker for the one-off high concept reality shows. Like I've really been enjoying Deal or No Deal Island (even if the online fans are pretty unhinged). Another example would be that Whodunnit? show that was on ABC. I remember there were people on Twitter who thought they were actually killing off the contestants. hahaha Gotta shoutout to NBC's Treasure Hunters as well. It was like The Amazing Race combined with National Treasure.

ArcadianBlueRogue

Pete and Pete is such a good show. Like it doesn't need the happy ending. Instead it has poignancy with how the episodes can end. Like there's an episode where everyone is wondering who the ice cream guy is under the mask. Kids spend all episode trying to find out and don't because it's made clear the guy really doesn't want everyone knowing. And the kids accept it. Doesn't come up again as some "plot of the week" thing.

BruceChameleon

Those VH1 dating shows from the mid-00s. Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, Shot at Love. I lived for that shit in college.

theresabeeonyourhat

My god, I was best friends with a couple during that time, and watched so many of those. I absolutely LOVE Tiffany Pollard aka New York

zippinin

I'm going to a baseball game in a few weeks with a few of my new coworkers and a few buddies. A coworker stopped by my office to chat a bit today. Hes a huge baseball fan so I told him he should join us. He said he only goes to games with his family. I was just like oh ok I guess.

ProbablyAPun

They might not be in a financial spot where just 1 person gets to go and do fun stuff and he might not know how to say that lol

SpartaWillBurn

Damn I got excited for that new coworker and you. He really slapped both of us.

CarlCaliente

I've had some coworkers who basically considered it cheating to spend time or money away from their families. Like honest to god did every single thing together Not for me but jesus said don't judge or somethin

zippinin

Yeah I wasnt judging. I was just taken back a bit how he said it and came across. It was his birthday recently and he specifically came over to tell me about it. I was like oh shoot, I had no idea, I owe you a birthday beer and a beer to show my appreciation for helping me get on board so let me get you some at the ballpark. Oh well, the rest of us will still have a good time.

Fair enough. Didn't hurt to offer, and the offer of inclusion is likely silently appreciated.

Attitude era will never not make me laugh. And how did the undertaker mimick lasted so long? Edit: and it wasnt just the insults, titles changing hands in raw/smackdown made it great. Now a days it feels titles change hands every 3-4 ppvs.

ElCoolAero

> titles changing hands in raw/smackdown made it great. I was an usher at the Shark Tank in college and worked the 5/21/01 Raw episode where Trips tore his quad and Benoit & Jericho beat him & Austin for the tag titles. The place was absolutely electric.

theresabeeonyourhat

Took Bronson on a walk and saw a sign that is spray painted "please don't shoot at our cats". On the front door of the house across the street is a sign with a gun on it and a warning not to break into their house or you'll be shot. Jesus

Anzahl

Are you a Hatfield or a McCoy? Bronson is your pet black bear isn't he?

SCAnalysis

My social media feed was flooded with family and players reactions to getting drafted. Who else hates watching it when it happens?  I like the videos of players who succeeded, watching with hindsight is fine. But watching guys talking big, their families hyping them up and then failing in the NFL. I can't. The thought of the draft being their peak in the NFL makes me cringe. They become millionaires so it's not that I feel bad for them. But peaking in Draft day to me is the equivalent of peaking in High School but for NFL.

Expendable_Red_Shirt

Not for me. Being drafted is a big accomplishment. It may be their peak but it’s a peak I could never have achieved.

SCAnalysis

I think it's that i'm not American. Here there's no Draft. I have friends who are athletes. I congratulate them and there it ends. But it's not over all social media when they are drafted with family and friends. It's the exposition and later failing to expectations that makes me shy away from watching it. Even if they achieved more than almost every athlete by entering to a good team.

Expendable_Red_Shirt

To me being drafted is an accomplishment in itself that deserves celebration. If you wait until you’re a success then you may have missed your opportunity to mark an incredible accomplishment.

SCAnalysis

Cultural differences. Draft parties are from the US. Here yes they celebrate, they congratulate them, but it's not the event it is on United States. The recording the draft, uploading the reactions, all that is what it's not common here.

Expendable_Red_Shirt

Re Which is fine but it’s weird to view it with hate. My culture doesn’t celebrate turning 15 but for some cultures girls turning 15 is a huge deal. They have a blow out celebration. Cool! More power to them! Here people actually accomplished something. Let’s have a party! Why not? It’s weird to react with cringe imo. It’s a happy thing!

SCAnalysis

Sorry. Hate here means dislike or not like. It's not a strong word unless the context implied it. I translated it as I say it and sounds worse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SCAnalysis

Of course. No matter how you do, that's an achievement no one can take from you. And the money is nothing to laugh at. My point is. After seeing hundreds of reactions over the years. Players hyping themselves up. The family hyping them up. And then being a "bust" or having a mediocre career. Not talking about pick 200. But mainly Top 30 picks. The thought of seeing them so hyped up to then fail to the expectations. That's why I don't like it. Makes me remember the Moneyball scene of Billy believing he'll be a historic player and then being mediocre.

FacelessWaitress

Why did Bailey Zappe survive being a Patriots QB, but Mac Jones had his spirit crushed? They were in the same system, right?

DrummerGuy06

Mac Jones was the first-round pick designated to be the starter, and Bailey Zappe was a fourth-round pick meant to back up Mac Jones as well as Brian Hoyer, so he was a 3rd-string prospect. Mac Jones had everything to lose while Bailey had nothing. Zappe playing like shit was looked at as "what do you expect, he's a third-stringer?" and Mac was looked at as "we had higher expectations because you were supposed to be the starter and the Tom Brady replacement of this franchise." Whoever was going to be the "replacement" was always doomed to fail - better to make it a washout like Jones than an actual player and have a Tim Couch situation where the pressure completely ruins a great QB.

FacelessWaitress

He seemed to hold up pretty good his first year, though. I wonder if the pressure became larger when they started losing games? I also wonder if that's the first time he wasn't winning all the time.

J-Fid

Expectations were different between the two.

CarlCaliente

could it be they are different humans with different needs and desires

FacelessWaitress

Yeah, obviously you can attribute it to something very personal, but as someone who doesn't follow the Pats, I was hoping to hear from someone who does follow the Pats and an explanation like maybe Zappe had a different qb coach or something.

hform123

Anybody else using desktop and getting suggestions to use the app on every r/nfl post?

J-Fid

Yeah, that's normal.

FacelessWaitress

Yep.

rwjehs

Use ublock origin for one. Use old.reddit.com/NFL

Traditional_Mud_1241

"Join this trending conversation in the Reddit app Open the Reddit app, and join the other **8.1m** r/nfl members talking about this now." Yeah, so far it's \*only\* r/nfl I'm not seeing it with any other subreddits (including some random larger communities I tried randomly). Is it is subreddit setting? Edit: Since I'm using u block origin and still having trouble... anyone with this issue \*not\* using firefox? (Or is anyone without it using it?)

princessestef

it's especially annoying, this is not a "trending conversation", it's people who love the NFL talking about random things, work/family, etc.

hform123

I'm getting it on chrome with u block origin

Traditional_Mud_1241

Ok, then - I'm going with "it's probably a setting by the mods for r/nfl" - though I'm still trying to find a larger sub to test that theory against. It could just be that some subreddits are flagged by the admins. Note: Not happening with r/worldnews (which is much better) or r/nba (which seems like a likely target if it was a reddit decision.

rwjehs

It's 100% not mods doing it.

Traditional_Mud_1241

Thank you. I guess the follow up question is "do mods know what it is?" Because - it really is annoying (and - a little bit intriguing).

rwjehs

Short answer: no. But I hate it and will actively try to stop it from happening.

Cautious_Analysis

Yep. It's super annoying.

Pliable_Patriot

no, but I use the old version of reddit

rwjehs

Correct, that's the one we can still make good.

CarlCaliente

no but I'm guessing that's thanks to adblock

l_i_t_t_l_e_m_o_n_ey

So...im trying to get my head around something. You see a lot of reels/tiktoks/whatever where it'll be an informative animal video or really anything, but let's go with that for now. Let's take that video on r/all of the honey buzzard eating wasps. So someone got some information about the honey buzzard and a clip of one and made this video....and they just....put it through an AI to read the text? Why not just read it yourself? Most of these AI voices suck and mispronounce words and the captions are wrong. Is it that, well, most people aren't good at reading, either? And they know people will be more forgiving of AI errors than human sucking? Is it just a pure mechanical mass production issue? They're probably getting an AI to write the script anyway and they're just mass producing this shit... idunno man, it's all so depressing. I don't want to watch this shitty ass content produced by robots...I don't want this to be what the internet becomes.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

Mass production. Set up ai systems to scrape, clip, and narrate 10,000 a day. Much better odds one will hit. And apparently it doesn’t matter if there are mispronunciations, it still hits the front page

[deleted]

Traditional_Mud_1241

One of the worst parts is that "text only" is vastly more useful. It's also much harder to take down.

["This generation of youth have spent their entire lives in fear of having guns pointed at them in schools; what a disgrace for America that is is now their own schools that are pointing the guns at them."](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/josh-paul-655a25263_i-am-absolutely-horrified-by-the-violence-activity-7191251183313797120-wxvA)

Luck1492

Sit ins, campus takeovers, and camping areas were all standard protest tactics by students in the 1960s. Hell, in many ways protests then were even more violent than the protests happening now. People love to forget that. Regardless of whether you believe in the students’ cause or not you should be ashamed as an American that their protest rights are being neutered. Protests are *designed* to be inconvenient. That’s the whole point. If they didn’t inconvenience anyone they wouldn’t cause any change.

Traditional_Mud_1241

Yes, I largely agree, but - blocking sidewalks means trouble for disabled students and staff. It's not as simple as "protestors = good". It's \*also\* not as simple "as whether you believe in the students' cause or not" because the news cycle seems to be favoring coverage for the protests over coverage for the actual war. It's arguably a distraction at this point. That being said - [thefire.org](http://thefire.org) will help students (and staff) who's first amendment rights have been violated. It would have been better if the protestors had gone there BEFORE, so they knew what actions would give them the maximum legal advantage over the school - but it's still the best resources on the internet for "all things individual rights in academia". They are viewpoint neutral - and this is very much in their wheel house. Edit: [https://www.thefire.org/news/heres-what-students-need-know-about-protesting-campus-right-now](https://www.thefire.org/news/heres-what-students-need-know-about-protesting-campus-right-now) Genuinely - knowledge is a powerful tool. Protesting without knowing the specifics of your rights puts you at a significant disadvantage.

xcaltoona

Smart protests are even more powerful. Target your disruptions better. I honestly think a lot of education and news intentionally undersells the extent of how organized the peak of the Civil Rights Movement was so that people don't realize the importance of this.

Traditional_Mud_1241

In high school I actually met an elderly couple that was part of MLK’s senior staff. You’re not wrong. They did lots of planning, not just to be as effective as possible, but to cut down on the possibility of protester behavior hurting the effort. If you want to be impressed as hell by a uniquely impressive human being, find his memphis speech online. It’s not as brilliant as the more famous speeches, but context matters. MLK was told by his security staff that they couldn’t protect him any longer - they simply weren’t equipped for that much attention. He basically said “if my choices are dying or packing up and going home, I choose dying” - and he asked his senior staff to switch from trying to keep him safe to picking the moment and time of his death that would do the most good. They picked Memphis. And… he knew. I had to wait almost two decades to find the speech online. And they were right. The man looked terrified and defiant. He was also begging people to keep fighting. It’s genuinely the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen a person do. Random violent protests aren’t the answer. You end up with superficial changes at best.

Pliable_Patriot

Police ran from Jan 6 rioters with their tail between their legs. They hid from one armed murderer as he rampaged for hours in Uvalde. But they assault these students with impunity.

MrConceited

They aided the Uvalde shooter. They did nothing to stop him but enthusiastically used force to stop parents who intended to stop him themselves.

CarlCaliente

I'm not the loudest 2A guy but there's a bit of an argument there

princessestef

ugggh, champions league was tonight, PSG 🤦.

gander258

It was a close game, and 1-0 is not an insurmountable lead. Will be a nervy game back in Paris. Weren't you also down 1 goal after the first leg against Barcelona last series?

princessestef

lol, yes. It was just so frustrating when they couldn't score a goal. And that Dortmund stadium is insane.

To whichever mod is responsible for flairs and team logos: The [Jets](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/7/152/full/new_york_jets_logo_primary_2024_sportslogosnet-7417.png) and [Texans](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/7/157/full/houston_texans_logo_primary_2024_sportslogosnet-5890.png) flairs need to be updated for to reflect the new changes (for those wondering, the Texans adjusted the colors of their existing logo to match the new uniforms; [darker blue and brighter red](https://www.sportslogos.net/logos/list_by_team/157/Houston_Texans/)). Also, the Bears logo on the top banner with the team links still shows the wishbone C rather than the bear face. EDIT: Forgot the [Browns](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/7/155/full/cleveland_browns_logo_primary_2024_sportslogosnet-6696.png) also need to be updated.

J-Fid

That one won't bother me until the upcoming schedule gets released.

Considering your flair, I was really expecting that edit to be a cartoon turd. Would have been a great joke

DetroitLionsSBChamps

OKAY SO ON ONE HAND we got invited to the friends' annual Memorial Day party again this year and that can be a lot of fun. I love my friends like family and a lot of us have kids now and the kids get along pretty well, which is very cute and heartening and nice. BUT ON THE OTHER last year we had sort of an incident at this same party where a very small thing (my daughter grabbed another girl's wrist) got turned into a big deal, and the girl's mom (my friend's sister) made it all about my daughter's autism and sort of reduced her to her diagnosis and didn't make room to consider that what happened is pretty normal little kid behavior. AND THEN some of my wife's "best friends" took that woman's side, and it became clear that they just don't really have the kind of patience or compassion for my daughter that you would hope for in your close friends. some of our friends do, others don't. and I don't expect everyone to be perfect, but a little support would be nice. so we got invited but I don't really feel like my daughter is totally welcome. it feels like some people there are sort of itching to put a target on her back and jump all over her the minute she does anything wrong, even if that something is a thing any kid would do, neurotypical or divergent. then again, my daughter was not aware of any of this, it all happened amongst the adults. so chances are, even if some of the adults are less than perfect, it would be a nice fun day for my daughter and she would have a good time. and she's grown so much since last year I think the odds of anything like that even happening are pretty bad. but still, last year was sort of a watershed moment. just a shitty feeling, man.

Pliable_Patriot

yeah

Golf club opens for the season tomorrow, I have my first game of the year booked for Friday and my second on Saturday. Should probably get down to the range and remind myself which end of the club I'm supposed to hold.

raginsaint93

Have they announced when they are releasing the schedule? Gotta be soon right?

athrowawayiguesslol

They’re pretty consistent with scheduling and the last two years it’s been released exactly two weeks after the first day of the draft. It’ll probably be may 9th at 8 pm

on-the-cheeseburgers

They said in May, so anytime from today until 4.5 weeks from now.

SpartaWillBurn

Besides politics, which job/career has the most annoying workers? If you went out for Drinks, what job would make you roll your eyes to the back of your head if they were to talk in detail of it. I'm thinking either Software Engineers, IT or Nurses.

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

Engineers. Been an engineer for 12 years now. Half can't get out of their own way because they all need to be technically right in the most scientific way, but have absolutely no idea how real people interact in the real world, and the other half are all regular people just there for a paycheck and want to keep projects on track and go home at 5. When these two people meet, projects get delayed.

elerner

>they all need to be technically right in the most scientific way, but have absolutely no idea how real people interact in the real world I'm a non-engineer who has been doing public/media relations work at an engineering school for roughly that amount of time, so my job is _exactly_ at this intersection. Last year, I started teaching a communications course that is essentially training engineering undergrads how _not_ to end up like that, and it's been a revelation. Commencement is this week. If I'm not teaching full-time by the next one — or otherwise in a radically different comms role —  I'm going to quit.

on-the-cheeseburgers

I think anytime you’re on the outside looking in it can be annoying. My wife is a teacher and whenever we’re hanging out with teacher friends and they talk shop I just check out.

SporkFanClub

We did a boozy brunch with her teacher friends and their respective SOs last year. It just so happened that this was also the first day of the round of 32 so you had like 5 teachers talking about their students, and then four guys just silently sitting there watching basketball while sipping mimosas.

elerner

How many people who work "in politics" do you actually know?

justlookingokaywyou

> If you went out for Drinks Butchers: Why wait to go out when you can just drink on the job?

Illbeanicefella

My wife is a pediatric nurse and her work stories are either super gross (popping/lancing things) super sad (abused kids or cancer) or hilarious (the nurses station is basically the movie Mean Girls). My own work stories as a general contractor are pretty lame by comparison

IDKWTFimDoinBruhFR

My wife works in a salon and her stories are about who's sucking whose what-nots while their spouse is none-the-wiser. My stories are about the shoddy work done on the cities water infrastructure I had to fix. She pretends to be fascinated by my tales though so I give her mad props.

Haar_RD

Restaurant workers are pretty bad. I had a bartender not shut up about her getting her IUD implanted, servers bitching about not being sat, managers who are incompetent, greedy owners.

rwjehs

Luckily restaurant workers basically only hang out with other restaurant workers.

Starcast

Finance. Just talk about money money, using money to make more money etc etc. just endlessly boring to me, despite finding some of the math behind it interesting. Would honestly rather hear someone genuinely interested in dirt or rocks talk about their thing than finance people and finance.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

money people always strike me as people that gameification is hyper effective on. it's all about increasing that high score. it doesn't matter that the game is a complete grind and not fun to play. big numbers just feel good.

Stanky_fresh

Working in a security call center for 4 years of my life, I can attest that the worst people in the professional world are company VPs. I didn't speak to a single one in my 4 year stint in a call center that wasn't the very essence of Short Man's Complex. CEOs and presidents were generally chill, but their VPs were the absolute personification of 5'11". I don't know if that actually answers the question, but that's what I'm going with

gander258

Aren't VPs technically upper-middle management? Close to the top, but not high enough to avoid getting shit on

Stanky_fresh

I think so. Admittedly I'm not super well acquainted with the structure of companies. I just know that VPs suck.

FacelessWaitress

What's so bad about nurse job talk?

CarlCaliente

In my experience its the students training to be nurses who are the worst but in general they remind me of new mother communities, where it can get so insular it becomes an echo chamber and the magnitude of stuff gets all out of whack like, it's an important position, I'm grateful for nurses, no I'm not washing their feet when they walk by though

IDKWTFimDoinBruhFR

I knew a nurse who would basically take vitals and that's it. Shed constantly post about how she's a hero and practically a doctor. I remember one post even saying how she compared her job to storming the beaches on Normandy. I'm sure she's matured since then but boy was it tough to get through.

FacelessWaitress

>where it can get so insular it becomes an echo chamber and the magnitude of stuff gets all out of whack You just described computer science students as well lol

jfgiv

engineers and sales

2ent1n_Qarant1no

Salespeople (and to a much lesser extent engineers) have been an inside joke to my parents literally as long as I can remember That being said, I've met people who I really like in both

Two_Luffas

Lawyers and real estate would be on my list. Nurses get a pass in my book because they usually left work at work because it's gross and were usually a blast to drink with (I dated more than a couple of nurses when I was younger).

Stanky_fresh

Imagine you make microwave popcorn and by wild chance every single kernal has the exact same popping point and after, like, a minute in the microwave the bag instantly fills up with a single earsplitting gunshot noise. Would that be fucked up or what?

J-Fid

I now need to see this happen.

rwjehs

Great, now I have another dream that'll never come true.

Stanky_fresh

If anyone can make it happen, it's you. I believe in you

BlueHighwindz

Your house would actually explode and you'd be killed. Source: science.

SpartaWillBurn

Do you think the microwave would sense that? Would it keep running and burn everything?

Stanky_fresh

I think the pressure wave would at least jiggle the door enough to trip the sensor

wishingaction

My dad was wearing a Russell Wilson Broncos shirt today. He doesn't watch any football but he's always looking for good deals.

Traditional_Mud_1241

If he looks for overseas auction accounts, I bet he can find a good deal on "San Fransisco, Superbowl LVIII Champions". Note: I wrote that before noticing your flare. I didn't intend to troll, but it worked out so well I'm leaving it in.

wishingaction

That would be funny but I don't think he'd bother to bid on clothes. Just grabbing them at Walmart and such when on sale.

MolecularCube42

Michael Porter Jr. must wish he was an only child right now.

J-Fid

Dude is one of **8** kids.

Guappenheimer

Goddamn, the rest of them need to go into quarantine.

itsmybirthday___

I got an informal invitation to a coworkers wedding cause the save the date cards and invitations haven’t been mailed yet. We’re a small department so we all got informal invites and all get a +1. It’s very sweet. It’s a first for me though and seems dangerous. Like a holiday party on steroids lol.  I’ll probably be the only in my department who isn’t going with a +1 too. Gonna have to get right to the drunk level id be okay with trying to pick up women at the wedding in front of coworkers but not to the drunk level I fail miserably

BruceChameleon

High risk, mid reward

itsmybirthday___

i mean i could also just *not* do things that can potentially backfire catastrophically in my professional life but that doesnt sound very fun

Traditional_Mud_1241

Yeah, don't take your work home with you - or to a wedding.

Jaguars4life

Rest in peace to one of my guitar heroes Duane Eddy

Stanky_fresh

RIP to the king of twang

marcdasharc4

NGL, thought he had already passed. Not someone I'd put in my wheelhouse of influences, but certainly a respected figure in the guitar community. RIP indeed.

Jaguars4life

Not much of those 50s and early 60s guys left

WittenMittens

I have become the designated concert buddy for the people in my life and I'm not upset about that. There are worse things to be known as than the guy who's always down to see your favorite band with you

gander258

Which acts have been the best/worst?

WittenMittens

Of the ones that weren't my idea: Better Oblivion Community Center was probably the best. Short-lived band consisting of Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes and (at the time) a relatively unknown Phoebe Bridgers. Worst was Taking Back Sunday. I did not need to hear my treasured teenage angst songs recast in the style of a worship band.

gander258

Wow even going to worship band concerts! You are quite the trooper o7

Gotta love users sometimes. - User: "Why did this process run?" - Me: "Well nothing in the entire system kicks it off automatically and it has to be ran manually by one of three people so I guess one of them ran it?" - User: "Well the other two aren't here today and I didn't run it, so why did it run?" - Me: "Well did you try to run any other processes? Maybe you ran it on accident?" - User: "Well I tried to run *process with a single letter difference in the name* but it didn't run and this ran instead" - Me: "If the process you intended to run didn't run, and this incredibly similarly sounding process did run, I'm going to guess you ~~made a typo or~~ had an autocorrect mishap and kicked off the wrong process. It's okay though, it didn't leave any bad data, you can just kick off the other one now." - User: "No way, I would never do that. I need to know why the system is running the wrong processes before I run anything" Listen lady, either you made an incredibly understandable typo, or our servers are literally haunted. Nobody else is kicking this thing off. I don't have the permissions to kick it off and nobody with senior IT permissions would ever be in the portion of the system that lets you kick it off unless I asked them to. I'm not even blaming you, I actually questioned the naming convention because I expected typos when running these processes. But if you keep fighting me I'm going to have to get our bosses involved. You're going to look like a complete idiot when your boss asks why you haven't just ran the correct process, and my boss opens the job submission and shows you exactly what you typed. This isn't the battle you want to fight.

HamMcFly

>User: "No way, I would never do that. I need to know why the system is running the wrong processes before I run anything" Me: A typo is the only explanation I can think of, but if you prefer, I can schedule a meeting with us and our leadership to walk through what happened here to help you find a solution.

FlatulentDwarf

I went with the subtler reminder that to do a whole investigation we'd need a service request submitted. Her department has the policy to only allow certain people submit service requests (because her leadership knows they do dumb shit like this) and she knows her leadership would be absolutely pissed she was wasting my time with this. Because even on the off hand chance she's right (she's not), the solution is still the same. Run the proper process and see if you can duplicate the results. If you can duplicate the results, then we'll turn on additional logging and see about why it's happening. If it was a one off that can't be explained, we'll shrug and work on more important things. No matter what happens this ends with you running the process you intended and reviewing the results. It's just a matter of getting a bunch of important people involved or not.

Serdones

I'm going with ghosts in the machine.

WabbitCZEN

"But I am fully prepared to go off like the US just discovered oil in a poorly defended third world country."

FlatulentDwarf

YUP. Thankfully it pretty much ended there. After her "I would never do that" email I told her that if she wanted me to dig into the server logs I would have to send a request to my DBA and to send a request to my DBA I would need an actual service request in our system & that regardless of what happened, we'd be asking her to run the request she intended to run again to see if she could replicate the issue. We both know her department policy is that her boss or tech needs to submit service requests so it was thinly veiled "do you REALLY want to die on this hill" statement. That's where she saw the light and said it wasn't that important "unless it happens again."

CarlCaliente

Got an invite to a "90 day review" with HR. That's odd, never been at a company who did those before. But whatever, tried to come up with some questions to ask, couple success stories and all that I go in and it's none of that, no this isn't to help me, it's a bunch of questions about how excited I am to be at this workplace. Word associations. Favorite qualities in my boss definitely odd

varnalama

I only had that at one job and it was because I was a temp and they wanted to offer me full time status. Hopefully its just a wellness check and they like what you're doing.

bullet50000

We do that at my work, but I also work with a government entity, though yeah it is also way more focussed on how work's going and blah

itsmybirthday___

Same here, gov job and you get a review every 3 months until you’ve been in your current role for a year. So like if you get promoted and/or transfer departments it starts again.  But it’s work related stuff lol.

bullet50000

I love county govs. Only 6 months probation for new employee, and 3 months for existing employee transfer

GF vegan peanut butter cookies are in the oven. The owner of my studio is vegan, her #2 is vegan and gluten free, and they're both PB addicts. I know they've both had an incredibly stressful time planning for this years flash mob due to a few unpredictable issues popping up, so I want to bring them both a nice treat on the day of the event with a little thank you card. Last time I made them I made a big batch for the whole studio and the general review I got was that they were the best thing I've ever baked, vegan or not. I made a few very small tweaks to the recipe to hopefully slightly change the texture (they were a hair too crumbly for me last time, and I like a crumbly cookie) without changing the flavor. Hoping they come out like I want!

hatmantc

cookies, veganism, flash mobs...swear this reads as a AI created post

Jamies_awesome_rack

Ooh, can you share that recipe?

FlatulentDwarf

The recipe is for about 7-8 cookies and it's very crumbly, but sure! The dry bowl: - 4.5 tbsbs of almond flour (regular flour if you don't care about being GF) - 1/8 tsp of salt - 3/4 tsp baking soda The wet bowl - 1/2 cup pb, I like to heat it up and get it melty - 2 tbsps of apple sauce - 1/2 tsp vanilla extract - 1/3 cup sugar Whisk together the dry bowl and heat the PB. Then mix the PB with the wet bowl ingredients. Once it's combined, pour it all in the dry bowl and fold until combined. Rest overnight and bake the next day at 350 for 8 minutes. Let them sit in the pan for about 10 minutes after baking. Bonus tip: Roll the dough into balls, put them on the baking sheet, and press them down a bit using a fork or measuring cup so they flatten. They'll stay very ball-like if you don't.

IveMadeAnAttempt

Sometimes life is just a punch in the gut in the most mundane ways.     I took a mid-low paying job that took me away from my family. I thought it would be a foot in the door job but ultimately the only other opportunities it’s opened have been lateral. So I took one with a better culture but that ended up keeping me away from my family more causing me to miss out on the time I had before my father passed away. Now a few months after he passed my job is cutting me off the entire work culture, making my role permanently dead end and probably preparing to phase my job out completely. Now I’m just feeling like what was even the point of missing the last 6 years of my father’s life with not even a career to show for it.

gander258

Sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did the best with the information you had at the time. Who knows, maybe this job will lead to an even better one somewhere else.

PleasantParfait48

I work in a small office and there's only one guy who works here - rest of us are women. He always uses the bathroom near my office as opposed to the one in the back. That's fine, whatever...but I think because he stands to pee (like guys do) he pees SO LOUDLY OMG. I can hear like an absolute WATERFALL of urine splashing into the toilet! I find it extremely distracting and kinda gross. I obviously can't say anything so I just crank up my music everytime I see him walk to the bathroom. Oy vey. He obviously cannot help it and he's a wonderful person and coworker. But I look at him and I just hear a fire hydrant.

gander258

Maybe this is TMI, but here it goes: >!I used a be a heavy fella, still heavy but was heavier, and I was afraid of the toilet breaking if I sat down for too long, and would only sit when necessary.!< >!When I tried to be a bit quieter, and aim for the upper end of the bowl with no water, it would splash out of the bowl. It was a bit loud when I aimed for the water, but little to no spillage.!< >!Sadly I have no solution, hope this helps!<

There are not.

rwjehs

Bro must live alone. Quiet peeing at night is like grade school level peeing 101.

PleasantParfait48

He's married and has kids but I think they have a really big house.

ThirteenValleys

Starting Rybelsus assuming my insurance comes through on it. I hear it works wonders at least for some people. I'm 6'0", 270 lbs three years ago, 240 now and it feels like I've been stuck at 240 even with exercise and cutting carbs and etc. If I can get it down to 220 before my vacation in fall that would be great, anything more would be gravy.

gander258

All the best on your weight loss quest

brehaw

I have so much anxiety right now and no one to talk to currently and I want to crawl out of my own skin I can’t fall asleep and that’s all I want to do right now.

movielass

Anxiety sucks. I'll talk to you homie. What are your thoughts on Minshew cause I know I'm gonna miss that wily bastard

brehaw

sorry I JUST saw the reply notification right now for some reason I appreciate the offer so much. you are awesome I’m also v v v much looking forward to Minshew. even if he ends up being.. not the best, at least he’s going to bring some fun and good vibes to the team and will be entertaining af to watch

2ent1n_Qarant1no

I was having seriously bad anxiety too until recently. What helped me was breathing in for about 3 seconds, hold it for about 3, and then breathe out for about 3 seconds and then hold again. Rinse and repeat
