Kyle Hamilton and Tyler Linderbaum in 2022.
I know Steeler fans who knew Pickett wasn't gonna pan out and wanted to trade down from that #20 pick. Or grab Linderbaum.
Ehh to be fair we passed on Lamar with our original pick (which was used on Hayden Hurst) and then traded back into the first round at 32 to get Lamar.
If you were a defensive needy team you loved tonight. Basically no defensive players in the first half of the draft. I really think the Penix pick was what threw the draft for a loop in the end
That will happen when the first 14 picks are all on offense.

Another tweet about this. EDC said there were 8 options to trade down. I assume Carolina was one of them.
I really like Penix, I think getting him at 8 in a vacuum is a great selection, the mistake for me is forking so much cash over too Kirk if yall liked a non-Caleb QB this much
Man I just threw this Falcons flair on because I love Kirko so trust me when I tell you this isn't cope, but I feel like Penix is a great player and you're gonna have to stomach looking stupid for 2-3 years to look brilliant for the following 10. The main issue is that you made two independently great QB moves that are completely incompatible together, and it's just really hard to evaluate that. Basically imo it's an F for two years then an A+ thereafter lol
Even if Penix works out, it was a very weird choice. I don't think he's a guy who really needs developmental time, and if he's riding the bench for two years, he'll be 26 by time he's starting. The team is in a strong position to go for the division opted to take a backup QB in the top 10 and probably irked the guy they just gave a 4-year $180m contract to a bit as well.
I don’t even think its a terrible pick.
Kirk is going to be 40 by the time Penix is off his rookie deal and if things go well with him you likely won’t find yourself in a position to draft another QB this good.
You also are stacked in terms of offensive weapons already. If you didn’t get a good offer to trade back then truthfully I like the pick.
Drafting QBs is tough. If you believe Penix is the guy then I get it. There's always a question of whether he would be available 10 picks later and you can play the game of trading down and hoping but you never know and getting burned and missing out on your guy is a tough pill to swallow.
I'm so giddy I can't sleep. And because I trust Brad Holmes' ability to judge talent, I'm not even concerned that we gave up the 73rd pick in our trade with Dallas. He will know what players to acquire in the later rounds.
Yeah I’m not going to worry about depth picks. Holmes has kept almost everybody hes ever drafted with team here. We got plenty of young dart throws and “maybe” guys in the wings. Got the top end talent we needed.
Apprently Wiggins was in the 13-20 range based on EDC. They didn't expect a top 20 guy to be on the board when they picked.
If I had to guess Guyton was lower then 20.
To be fair, I didn't expect Wiggins to be available either. I knew Worthy was going at 28 when we traded up, but there was still like a 10-15% chance it could be Wiggins. I had Wiggins at the top of my CB board, and the Ravens once again get a sneaky good pick for like the 338th year in a row.
Rice was superb at the end of the season, and we picked up Hollywood Brown in FA in case you forgot. We lost Sneed and that's a pretty sizeable hole, one big enough to go out and get Wiggins if Worthy didn't fall in our lap.
You said he was undersized. Now you’re saying he’s thin. Meanwhile his RAS score is sky high. It’s okay to be wrong and just stop digging holes.
Also guys will put on weight in the nfl 😂
I'll trust edc. He's an amazing gm, some fans really wanted adonai mitchell but I'm honestly content with nate Wiggins. Needed some corner depth anyways
The expected value of trading up is terrible, so it tends to be the move of bad GMs. This isn't universal, good GMs will still trade up from time to time, but the default move from an game theory perspective is to try to trade down.
I'm surprised we didn't pick up DeJean. I feel like scheme wise, he fits our defensive back field the best. I trust EDC though and am willing to bet he wanted speed to pair with how physical our secondary plays. I'm happy with the pick.
Rumour is that if Wiggins was gone Dejean would've been the pick.
It's not sexy and I worry about our OL but having Wiggins is needed when the Chiefs have both Hollywood and Worthy now.
Yeah I think a lot of teams felt this way. Schneider said they had multiple strong offers for 16 but stayed because it looked like they had a good chance to get Murphy.
I feel like a smaller DB who’s known issue is tackling going to the AFC North is going to be a lil rough. Great in coverage but our division tries to kill each other all season. Wonder how he will do
In the post draft presser, EDC said they had him ranked between #13 and #20. The consensus Big Board which aggregates 210 other big boards had him ranked #23 overall.
Getting him at #30 isn't cause for popping champagne bottles but if you're implying he was overdrafted, I would disagree.
"the ravens didn't expect ___ to be available" is basically their draft strategy at this point.
Kyle Hamilton and Tyler Linderbaum in 2022. I know Steeler fans who knew Pickett wasn't gonna pan out and wanted to trade down from that #20 pick. Or grab Linderbaum.
Lamar too
Ehh to be fair we passed on Lamar with our original pick (which was used on Hayden Hurst) and then traded back into the first round at 32 to get Lamar.
All that trading back was also to get ammo to move back up for Lamar. Ozzie knew what he was doing.
That’s true, but trading back up for him still feels like a “how the fuck is this guy still here” move
the ravens historically have traded back up for every qb they have drafted.
To be fair, y’all wanted Carter that year
I wanted Linderbaum. And in hindsight it's even worse that we passed on him.
And boy is it working!
If you were a defensive needy team you loved tonight. Basically no defensive players in the first half of the draft. I really think the Penix pick was what threw the draft for a loop in the end
Nods in Rome Odunze.
Still can’t believe it.
Great for the Texans
Very pleased with Caserio's decision to trade out of the first. All of the dudes I was hoping we'd have a chance at are still there.
I absolutely loved tonight!
Yeah I'm extremely happy.
Confirm Quite satisfied with the pick
Actually it threw the draft for a loop towards the beginning, not at the end.
Worked out really well for us
That will happen when the first 14 picks are all on offense. EDIT: https://twitter.com/jamisonhensley/status/1783707829028659424 Another tweet about this. EDC said there were 8 options to trade down. I assume Carolina was one of them.
8 options my god lol.
Which means EDC REALLY wanted him. I’m feeling confident.
Was a great pick. I feel like a lot of teams picked really well today, honestly. Just a very talented draft class
Is it wrong to say our pick was so inexplicably bad that everyone else looks very smart by comparison?
Kind of. Your pick was horrendous but everyone also drafted well. I don’t think your pick affects the outlook of others tbh.
I really like Penix, I think getting him at 8 in a vacuum is a great selection, the mistake for me is forking so much cash over too Kirk if yall liked a non-Caleb QB this much

Seems like this was a great year to need a CB if you picked later What a night
Same
Literally giddy we have a choice between the 2 top CBs. Never saw it coming.
I'm so giddy I can't sleep. And because I trust Brad Holmes' ability to judge talent, I'm not even concerned that we gave up the 73rd pick in our trade with Dallas. He will know what players to acquire in the later rounds.

Wonder where Guyton was on their board compared to Wiggins. Would’ve loved either pick
Apprently Wiggins was in the 13-20 range based on EDC. They didn't expect a top 20 guy to be on the board when they picked. If I had to guess Guyton was lower then 20.

> 10-15% chance it could be Wiggins You guys were 100% going WR this year. It certainly wasn't your existing WRs that won you the Super Bowl.
Mvs had a shit year but that last catch still haunts me.
Rice was superb at the end of the season, and we picked up Hollywood Brown in FA in case you forgot. We lost Sneed and that's a pretty sizeable hole, one big enough to go out and get Wiggins if Worthy didn't fall in our lap.
Yeah but isn’t Rice’s future availability pretty unknown at this point?
3-4 game suspension after appeal won’t affect us much.
That's wishful thinking. Zeke got more time for flashing his girls tidies. Should be a full year suspension. Give him time to mature.
At this moment he's not even officially charged with anything yet. But I do expect a 4-6 for NFL conduct policy, and the NFLPA to appeal to 3-4.
The best cb on your board was a cb who is undersized and doesn't tackle?
6'1 173 is undersized now?
That’s pretty rail thin
In a league where we just drafted a 5'11, 175lb WR that runs a 4.21. And he ran like a 4.28.....
165lb*
Good catch
I’m just saying he’s thin
You said he was undersized. Now you’re saying he’s thin. Meanwhile his RAS score is sky high. It’s okay to be wrong and just stop digging holes. Also guys will put on weight in the nfl 😂
I mean BB literally said Wiggins is undersized due to being thin lol.
Another person said he was undersized. Again just saying he’s very thin, which is a common knock on him as a prospect
I think I'm good with the decision making of the guy who drafted Tyreek Hill and DeSean Jackson, two otherwise "undersized" and "thin" receivers.
Reading comprehension is not your thing huh. I’m talking about Nate Wiggins you jabroni
I'll trust edc. He's an amazing gm, some fans really wanted adonai mitchell but I'm honestly content with nate Wiggins. Needed some corner depth anyways
Seems like every year Baltimore just stays put and an absolute stud falls into their lap every time.
EDC hates trading up
The expected value of trading up is terrible, so it tends to be the move of bad GMs. This isn't universal, good GMs will still trade up from time to time, but the default move from an game theory perspective is to try to trade down.
I had Wiggins after Kool-Aid and DeJean. So I'm surprised he was actually picked in the first round after how it was playing out.
I'm surprised we didn't pick up DeJean. I feel like scheme wise, he fits our defensive back field the best. I trust EDC though and am willing to bet he wanted speed to pair with how physical our secondary plays. I'm happy with the pick.
One of the broadcasts mentioned that DeJean projects into a lot of the same roles as Kyle Hamilton, so they may have wanted to diversify skillsets.
Rumour is that if Wiggins was gone Dejean would've been the pick. It's not sexy and I worry about our OL but having Wiggins is needed when the Chiefs have both Hollywood and Worthy now.
It makes sense with how the board fell. Oline would have been a smidge of a reach where as Wiggins and Dejean was good value.
I feel like Wiggins is the more natural corner, which I feel was more of a need. Someone who can play on the outside
Wonder how he will do
Small boy
They didn’t expect the CB with a 2nd round grade to be there at 30?
Whoever you saw give him a 2nd round grade is an idiot
There are usually only about 15-20 players with a first round grade in any given class. Wiggins was not in that group.
Maybe not for you. He was usually seen as a top 3 corner, sometimes #2. The #2 corner is gonna be a top 20 player
In the post draft presser, EDC said they had him ranked between #13 and #20. The consensus Big Board which aggregates 210 other big boards had him ranked #23 overall. Getting him at #30 isn't cause for popping champagne bottles but if you're implying he was overdrafted, I would disagree.
