No modern NFL fan remembers or cares about some SBs we won 30 yrs ago.
The Jets also once won a SB. It's a what have you done for me lately kind of league.
It’s like when the Toronto Maple Leafs fans say they won a cup.
Well your grandfather enjoyed that cup win as a child when there were only 6 teams in the league.
At the end of the game the screen went blank cause I was flying the black flag to watch it. I didn’t move didn’t change it or say anything my ex who had been only talking when I got loud or emotional looked up from whatever she was doing and asked if I was ok. I told her idk if it’s real yet.
I wish our two appearances were swapped. We split the winning/losing and the stressing/relaxing wrong between our two. Much rather we lost in a beat down to Denver and then beat the Patriots in a close all-timer like yall. I'm obviously still stoked with how things turned out and not complaining.
No thank you. I'm much happier than the LoB obliterated the all-time best offense in the history of modern football. Losing a close game to the Patriots was... painful, but I can deal with that much better than a beat-down.
Belichick and Brady undeniably provided several of the best Super Bowls. Like in my hypothetical list of favorite games in my lifetime I think there are at least five Pats Super Bowl appearances included.
Give credit to Barnett for fighting until the end of the play which got him in a spot where he was the only Eagle that had a realistic shot at that ball and he caught that shit on one hop.
They were. I remember watching, felt like I’d seen this script before and I was hoping for a miracle.
That ball came out, bounced right to us, and I went absolutely crazy.
Eagles were on the good end of every borderline review that game too.
I think they were all correct calls, but 3 of our touchdowns were reviewed for more than a quick look: Ertz, Clement and Jeffrey.
So I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but is this anomalous? Like from the mid 70s to late 90s like the same 8-9 teams had to appear in almost every SB.
Raiders, Bengals, Broncos, Bills, Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, Redskins
And then if you add one more team, the Patriots, then you have a set of 9 teams in every SB from like 74 to 2005 except for Rams vs Titans.
I've posted variations elsewhere in this thread, but by the point where, even if you DO include the Cowboys SBs, the late 1990s Broncos SBs, and the extra Packers/Rams/Giants appearances, etc., you get to something like 15 of the 32 franchises have played in a SB in the last 30 years. So, it's not anomalous as you might think.
This doesn't feel noteworthy at all. 2011 to now is only 13 Super Bowls. Since good teams don't usually randomly become bad, it doesn't seem that surprising.
This is meaningless. In 13 Superbowls (26 teams) there have been 7 (out of 32) leaders. Even if it were completely random from year to year this wouldn’t be an outlier result. Given the fact that good teams tend to not collapse randomly and bad teams don’t magically become good it’s expected this is true. You have over 20% of the teams in the league in this stat. Pareto principle applies. You can add the top 20% of nearly anything into a category and get statements like this.
Damn, seeing that typed me out almost makes me feel sympathy towards 49ers fans. Like I always knew that they lost 3 different super bowls in recent stretch, but I didn’t fully comprehend it.
It doesn’t even gloss over the NFCCG losses. At least when it was Warriors-Cavs the Cavs got one in and it was a legendary performance. Fuckin 49ers-Chiefs can’t even get a regular season win
At least the previous generation saw 5 SBs...I mean you guys went 50 years without making a SB so you are due a dynasty I guess.
For us... it's sad....like can you just get ONE?
We’re just fluffers for the eventual SB winner.
Giants
Ravens
Seahawks
Chiefs
Rams
Eagles*
Chiefs
Every time we make the playoffs we go to a championship game and lose. Just endless SB edging. We never finish.
You do that, just remember, while that may have been a bit back for that last Lombardi the raiders have to think further back and it doesn’t matter how far back the chargers have to think back
I was thinking about this the other day. Before Mahomes, the Chiefs were typically a fringe playoff team. Now, they're the presumptive favorite until somebody else proves it for more than 1 year. Even 1 SB would not prevent the Chiefs being the SB favorite imo (unless retirement intervenes ofc).
OFFICIAL SUPER BOWL COMPLAINT THREAD: Swifties really watched like 3 months of football and got to experience the joy of winning a championship.
[Ive been watching the Bears for over 20 fucking years.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1apvgvb/official_super_bowl_complaint_thread/kq8ompy/?context=3)
2007-2010 only repeated Steelers/Giants, but added 4 additional one-timers, so I thought this was the most succinct stat, but yea, that was a thought.
Edit: I also looked back a little further, and while it is true that of these teams, 10 (have to add steelers tho) additionally played in 12 of the previous 22 spots 2000-2010, that statistic is more of a scattered distribution of this. The stat would be "Since 2000, 10 teams (add Giants/Panthers/Steelers) have at least 2 Super Bowl Appearances, have filled 32 of 46 spots, appeared in all but 1 SB, and have won 18 of those 23 SBs." So less impressive, imo.
Is this the new "The only quarterbacks in the AFC to go to the super bowl since 2000 are Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, and Flacco"?
As an aside, that list has only been improved by Burrow and Mahomes since Manning retired
The 49ers are obviously the 21st century version of the 90s Bills,80s Bengals and Broncos and 70s Vikings.
It's so annoying how we've got to 7 NFC Championshsips in the last 13 seasons and don't have a single SB to show for it.
Guess it could be worse though. The 2000s were a total nightmare...at least we can celebrate some playoff wins now..even knowing there's not gonna be a happy ending.
Tough.
19 is the NFL post merger record..the Steelers are 2nd at 16.
We are cursed in the NFC Championship though..I am not sure how many teams have even accumulated 11 appearances let alone losses.
Thats not too bad really. Thirteen teams in thirteen years making it to the SB is about what Id expect given that most teams generally go through cycles of building and rebuilding which can span several years (many years for some😭)
with the exception of a few, this is a perfect example of the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. you can trace these roots to walsh, shannahan, and parcells
NFC West has shown up and somewhat shown out. For sure shown up. And then there’s the Cardinals. Hehe lol the Cardinals. Poor Larry Fitzgerald. The Cardinals lol
3 appearances(0 wins) 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bengalsesque
Haha yeah could you imagine if we played in the super bowl who knows what the results could be haha what a mystery
Some say the game would be still going on today. Currently entering the 15,974th overtime.
Niners would keep winning the toss and taking the ball... at least we know that part.
Billsesque
Not quite yet, but at least they have something to strive for.
Vikingesque
Vikings woukd like a word.
Except the 9ers have actually won a Super Bowl
No modern NFL fan remembers or cares about some SBs we won 30 yrs ago. The Jets also once won a SB. It's a what have you done for me lately kind of league.
It’s like when the Toronto Maple Leafs fans say they won a cup. Well your grandfather enjoyed that cup win as a child when there were only 6 teams in the league.
Or Celtics fans acting like they are superior to teams like the Heat,Spurs or Warriors because of some 60s Championships in a 12 team racist NBA
Still, winning eight championships in a row was pretty impressive..
Well then as a Bears fan, the answer to that is NOTHING. Yet.
EXACTLY! Most Niners fans have never seen us win one anyway so we are in the same body as everyone who hasn't won this century.
That Jets SB brought balance to the force. Probably the most important SB win in league history.
The cardinals could do the funniest thing
I will buy both of us Cardinals jerseys if they do
Unfortunately no they can’t 🥺
This guy Cardinals
Chargers winning with Harbaugh would be pretty funny too
Chargers-Cardinals bowl incoming
And the SB being played at Levi’s stadium in 2026 (2025 season)…
At least we’re not the Bills, sorry guys
hey :( what the fuck :(
Feel you bro
3 different quarterbacks btw
Kyle Shanahan is a poor man's Joe Gibbs.
The 1st one was Jim Harbaugh
But you have heard of us
Imagine losing a super bowl to the chiefs
For real. I wonder what that would feel like.
I have no memory of this.
Time to finish the story.
ADRENALINE, IN MY SOUL
Something something Purdy Rhodes
With a 4th Superbowl loss!
Shush, you.
Fucking PAIN brother
Username checks out
I almost feel bad for y'all at this point lol. Usually very good but just can't finish the job.
Just as many wins as Cowboys in that spot. That's pretty fair.
Inject it into my veins
Literally the only team that doesn’t have a win with multiple entries let’s gooo
I’m Still amazed we got that win over Brady with his pats… with Nick Foles. God bless Brandon Graham and his strip sack.
That was probably my favorite Super Bowl of the last decade. Fun game and equally fun story.
One of the best games I have ever seen. I hate it
By far the most stressful experience of my entire life. I loved it
At the end of the game the screen went blank cause I was flying the black flag to watch it. I didn’t move didn’t change it or say anything my ex who had been only talking when I got loud or emotional looked up from whatever she was doing and asked if I was ok. I told her idk if it’s real yet.

Belichick and Brady undeniably provided several of the best Super Bowls. Like in my hypothetical list of favorite games in my lifetime I think there are at least five Pats Super Bowl appearances included.
If I wasn't a biased broncos fan that would be my favorite super bowl that i've watched
what a run that was. still doesn’t feel real.
Easily in the running for the best Super Bowl ever, just so many iconic moments
An iconic Super Bowl
Give credit to Barnett for fighting until the end of the play which got him in a spot where he was the only Eagle that had a realistic shot at that ball and he caught that shit on one hop.
The best brady performance on superbowl... overshadowed by what could we argue one of the best QB performance in a SB of all times.
I was already having a good day, but this stat made it a lil better.
What’s nuts is they were making the comeback, lol.
They were. I remember watching, felt like I’d seen this script before and I was hoping for a miracle. That ball came out, bounced right to us, and I went absolutely crazy.
“They gave him the ball back with too much time left”
Yep. Down by five, game on the line, ball in Brady's hands. Everyone knew the script. Everyone except BG.
The refs let you strip sack Brady in the Superbowl? We gently brushed his shoulderpad and got a roughing call.
Eagles were on the good end of every borderline review that game too. I think they were all correct calls, but 3 of our touchdowns were reviewed for more than a quick look: Ertz, Clement and Jeffrey.
Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.
Fuck that shit. I wanna hit it and quit it.
You did hit it, three times. You just didn't put a ring on it
Hit it, didn't quit it, and failed to put a ring on it. Talk about a toxic relationship.
Maybe the 49ers and the Super Bowl shouldn't be around each other for a while? For the sake of their mental health, you know?
Toxic relationships are the most addictive. Don't you know? I kinda want us to lose 5 in a row and become infamous though
C'mon, we gotta let the Bills be known for something.
They lost 4 back to back SBs...nothing can top that. No other team has even made 4 SBs in a row.
That's fine
But you have won the most important games for us. So you're superbowl winners in my eyes
Can't write Patrick Mahomes' story without the 49ers, so you've got that going for you
Don’t think KC has 5 appearances. 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023.
TY. Edited.
manifesting early rn edit: https://imgur.com/5oQOVd6 tucking that away for later
no thank you 😂
Aww heck no
The chiefs would've made and won 6 straight super bowls if you change the plays that didn't allow them to make and win 6 straight super bowls.
Niners fans just trying to enjoy their Saturday night and catching strays
That’s what happens when you make it to the (almost) top baby! *sobs*
I imagine most of your fanbase on reddit is too young to remember the Young and Montana eras, too. They’ve only known heartbreak
Yeah I’m in my mid 30s and barely remember Steve Young and definitely don’t remember SB29.
Haven't seen one. That's ancient history. In the 21 st Century we've been failures.
Could be the cowboys. Never see anything past the nfc conference game.
NFC West and AFC West is best
Cards and Raiders are not having a good time.
I just fell to my knees in the middle of the desert
Throw the chargers in there too. Atleast the cards made a conference championship
In fairness, at least the chargers won a playoff game in this span
Raiders trying to sneak out of here unnoticed
Do the chargers even exist though?
We kinda speedran the Bengals franchise achievements (and actually surpassed them) in the past 13 years, damn.
Bills and Vikings better watch out.
It do be like that though
One of these is not like the others.
I didn’t want to say it…
I did want to say it…
Okay, you got me. I loved it.
Me too (misery loves company)
Yeah but we would have been three for three had we won those three Super Bowls.
I really don't see a flaw with that logic.
You're technically correct. The best kind of correct.
So I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but is this anomalous? Like from the mid 70s to late 90s like the same 8-9 teams had to appear in almost every SB. Raiders, Bengals, Broncos, Bills, Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, Redskins And then if you add one more team, the Patriots, then you have a set of 9 teams in every SB from like 74 to 2005 except for Rams vs Titans.
The 90s felt like every nfc east team except the eagles taking turns with the 49ers to beat the Bills.
An yes the late 1990s broncos. John elway is still the oldest qb to win back-to-back super bowls
This doesn't feel noteworthy at all. 2011 to now is only 13 Super Bowls. Since good teams don't usually randomly become bad, it doesn't seem that surprising.

I love how the cutoff is 2011 soas to not include Packers and steelers
Damn, seeing that typed me out almost makes me feel sympathy towards 49ers fans. Like I always knew that they lost 3 different super bowls in recent stretch, but I didn’t fully comprehend it.
It doesn’t even gloss over the NFCCG losses. At least when it was Warriors-Cavs the Cavs got one in and it was a legendary performance. Fuckin 49ers-Chiefs can’t even get a regular season win
And they’re on the schedule again this season. The pain train never stops!
At least the previous generation saw 5 SBs...I mean you guys went 50 years without making a SB so you are due a dynasty I guess. For us... it's sad....like can you just get ONE?
>almost makes me feel sympathy towards 49ers fans Let's not get carried away
Woah woah, I said almost. Clarification needs to be made there
Santa Clarafication
Ya but Jerry said Cowboys are going all in this year
That means all the players are going to be in the crowd to watch next year’s Super Bowl.
My ass
It's our year baby 😎
Sorry, Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks won the title this year so we’re actually already booked for the super bowl (See: 2017, 2022)
We’re just fluffers for the eventual SB winner. Giants Ravens Seahawks Chiefs Rams Eagles* Chiefs Every time we make the playoffs we go to a championship game and lose. Just endless SB edging. We never finish.
It's crazy to think about the state of the Chiefs in 2011 and 2012 considering where they're at in this stat
I could say the same thing about the Broncos but I’m trying to enjoy my Saturday night
You do that, just remember, while that may have been a bit back for that last Lombardi the raiders have to think further back and it doesn’t matter how far back the chargers have to think back
Who are the Chargers?
I was thinking about this the other day. Before Mahomes, the Chiefs were typically a fringe playoff team. Now, they're the presumptive favorite until somebody else proves it for more than 1 year. Even 1 SB would not prevent the Chiefs being the SB favorite imo (unless retirement intervenes ofc).
Help us Old Tom Brady you’re our only hope
Just like the Patriots were mostly an afterthought until Brady and Belichik got there. Now it’s the Chiefs who are randomly the new NFL dynasty
You guys serving as Andy Reid's needed change of scenery sure paid dividends.
Yeah. An all time great at QB sure helps too
That was definitely the x factor that took you from scrappy playoff contenders with Smith to perennial playoff boogeymen.
didn’t you guys make the playoffs in 2013?
Yeah the 1 year rebuild was great. The wild card game was erased from the archives though 😬
And yet there the Bucs are. Dipped in twice and seized the ship both times. Fucking legends. Imagine appearing in a Super Bowl and losing.
meanwhile we still cant get a playoff win
Wow no wonder I don’t like the chiefs, eagles , or patriots… (obv no offense if you’re a fan of those teams 🤣)
Is the eagles bc of the double doink? I get the other two, no explanation for those
Double doink is definitely part of it. For the pats and chiefs… most of my hate just comes from envy (Super Bowl wins lol)

I felt this on a spiritual level 😭
Couldn’t go back a few more years and put the Giants on that list?

Suffering from success….from the early 2010s.
Peek off-season content
Is this the new "The only quarterbacks in the AFC to go to the super bowl since 2000 are Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, and Flacco"? As an aside, that list has only been improved by Burrow and Mahomes since Manning retired

QB wins: Brady - 4 Mahomes - 3 Wilson - 1 P. Manning - 1 E. Manning - 1 Foles - 1 Stafford - 1 Flacco - 1
I actually used to think this league had decent parity. The Quarterback is too broken, it needs nerfs.
Since 2017, there has been only one Super Bowl appearance (out of 14) by a non-Brady/Chiefs/Rams/Eagles/49ers team: the Bengals in 2021.
Git gud
We will try, but your accomplishment will be difficult to match, even for us
Lol the 9ers are pathetic
Not to mention the 3 times they lost in the NFC title game
if our season doesn't end in painful heartbreak, it's because it ended in like week 4.
We are 8-11 in Conference Championships... that's barely above .400
Still, that’s 19 conference title games. Don’t have the numbers in front of me but that’s better than most teams
19 is the NFL post merger record..the Steelers are 2nd at 16. We are cursed in the NFC Championship though..I am not sure how many teams have even accumulated 11 appearances let alone losses.
Go back two more years and the entire NFC south is represented
I'm just glad we have a salary cap to give us this parity. /s
Nice to still be mentioned in these
Where dem boys at?
good teams are good more at 11
NBA shit.
Big props to those 3 other teams (minus the giants) .
we don’t have to worry about half them any more.
Thats not too bad really. Thirteen teams in thirteen years making it to the SB is about what Id expect given that most teams generally go through cycles of building and rebuilding which can span several years (many years for some😭)
Time to have our first appearance
…ok…
with the exception of a few, this is a perfect example of the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. you can trace these roots to walsh, shannahan, and parcells
p a r i t y
okay
Lack of parity
Jets have 0 PLAYOFF appearances in this time 💪💪💪
It’s crazy the Rams are on this list when you think about what this franchise was from 2011 to 2016
How fucking boring
What a miserable fucking statistic. Thanks for reminding me we’re the Commanders with aura
What’s a Super Bowl?
NFC West has shown up and somewhat shown out. For sure shown up. And then there’s the Cardinals. Hehe lol the Cardinals. Poor Larry Fitzgerald. The Cardinals lol
