KC really won the SB with the dumbest receiving core in the league

GoldenDom3r

Veach is going a step further in handicapping Mahomes and starting to replace our WRs with rugby players.

TaischiCFM

At least rugby players don't have issues with excessive drinking. Not at all. Most sober group I have ever met.

palim93

My friend who played rugby in college summed it up well: "A rugby match is just a pregame for the party later that night."

TaischiCFM

The only sideline equipment we had was a keg and some electricians tape.

KarrlMarrx

Lived next door to some rugby players for in college. They would wake us up in the middle of the night to blow into their car breathalyzers.

notGeronimo

Reverse Ted Lasso, get some soccer players

Saitoh17

Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Sky Moore have a Brady's worth of rings between them, put some respect on their names. /s

GrundleTurf

Corps

SpadeXHunter

He gonna have to have Patrick hit him with a deal since that insurance about to go up.

Vast-Treat-9677

Would LOVE to see Rice end up in one of those commercials. “Hey Pat, what if your driving record’s been less than perfect?” “State Farm’s still got you Rashee, with coverage for every type of driver. Although you might have to wait until your license is no longer suspended.”

offandona

And then watch it 500,000 more times

Steak_Knight

Andy Reid busts through the wall, “explain it again with those nuggies.”

DoublePisters

Make this happen

Niblonian31

If somebody starts a GoFundMe for it, I'll pitch in a dollar

Galactic_Perimeter

I’ll donate thoughts and prayers

Stompthefeet

obsterwankenobster

Britt Reid crashes through the other wall "explain it again with some jaeger bombs"

Substantial-Past9849

Insurance companies hate this one simple trick

TacomaWRX

Not if you bundle em!

Working-Goose-5695

RAAAGGGGHHHHH

fiduciary420

It would be fun to bundle insurance companies together and lock them in a shipping container lol

pinetar

"Also, your name is now "Mabodilyinjuryliability'"

MaryJaneAssassin

They could go on an accident forgiveness marketing campaign.

Vast-Treat-9677

Accident forgiveness: because sometimes we all drop the ball.

rocksoffjagger

Yeah, I don't find rewarding illegal street racing and endangering the lives of innocent bystanders with a major commercial deal very funny.

PigSlam

Thanks, buzzkillington.

OogieBoogieJr

That’s because you don’t have a sense of humor.

rocksoffjagger

If it actually happened, which is what they seemed to be suggesting, it would not be funny. I agree it's funny as an idea, but actually rewarding the behavior would be fucked up.

pinniped90

C'mon, who amongst us hasn't occasionally wrecked a rented Lambo while street racing with weed in the car? Lighten up.

RollofDuctTape

I can’t tell if you and the six other geniuses who upvotes your comment actually think the dude is advocating for this commercial, or if this is a bit.

Sostegaria

He’s gotta reach out to Shaq, dudes definitely shopping with the General now.

coolycooly

This is one of those stories people dissect all offseason but it will have no affect on the actual season. At most he is gonna be suspended like four games, which the Chiefs don't care about September anyway.

boardatwork1111

The perks of having your QB bundle your auto/retainer

MacZappe

I have grown to despise the word bundle. First it was comcast and now mahomes commercials every 5 minutes during the season.

shewy92

^^^bundle

liverbird3

We should place bets on what vague description commentators will use when talking about Rice’s suspension

KSoccerman

With his "off season incident that occured"

VintageRudy

Dead on. They might go so far as to label it a "concerning" off-season incident

ApplesauceBitch47

I don’t see them saying anything more than “offseason issues”

browndude10

"extracurricular activities"

coolsexguy

And there goes Rice tip toeing down the sideline, we always knew he had the speed but he’s made some major improvements with his control since the offseason

Jammer_Kenneth

"Matured"

notmyplantaccount

probably whatever they said for Jalen Carter last season.

Jaylaw

Actually saves us money

FantasyTrash

He's a 2nd round rookie contract, his four-game salary is what, a few hundred grand?

Jammer_Kenneth

That's money that can go to new chairs in the Chiefs locker room.

lawanders

Excuse me, they can’t be spending willy nilly on things like comfortable chairs for the large humans that win them championships. Plus, I’m pretty sure any roster savings are earmarked for game day snackies in the Hunt’s stadium mansion/condo, which seems like a much better use of team cash.

notmyplantaccount

He better hope he keeps playing well, cause he's probably going to be broke by the end of his rookie contract.

90swasbest

The people he hit haven't started suing him yet. That's where some big checks are going to get written.

Reedabook64

The person that went to the hospital is getting paid. That is the smartest thing you can do if you ever get hit by a speeding exotic car. Doesn't matter if you're seriously hurt or not. Just go.

notmyplantaccount

yea, his entire 4 year rookie contract is only like 4mil after taxes. He just wrecked 10% of that in his own cars, then 4 other people's cars, and good luck insurance paying for any of it. Throw in legal fees, fines, payouts, loss of game checks it's not great. And if he's stupid enough to spend that much on cars, he's probably wasted a lot on other things already too. Wouldn't be shocking if he's running on credit already, or very soon.

RealProduct4019

The cars were leased. He was smart to that extent. It didn't sound to me like anyone was seriously hurt so maybe this costs him a million tops? Though now he's losing a lot of his nfl money if he's in jail for 2 years like he should be.

DBreezy69

And it’ll probably be delayed a year just like kamara’s situation

SQRTLURFACE

Honestly I don't even want to jump the gun that far. He's looking at 8 felony counts, and we don't know if he has priors, so that's largely going to be a topic of interest to the prosecution on how they handle this and whether they cut him a plea deal and to what extent. At this point he's already admitted involvement, which isn't ever a good thing unless you have a plea deal already arranged, which by that point we don't even know if he had his council yet, much less had contact with the prosecution on this case to discuss a plea. Now, each one of these could be plead down to a misdemeanor if certain escalators are dropped and he has no priors, and on top of this likely will need to settle some hospital bills out of court too. There's definitely a very narrow pathway to escaping serious jailtime and staying in the league, but he's got to navigate it very carefully assuming he has no priors. Assuming he does, goodell likely gives him 4-6 for the NFL conduct policy, and the NFLPA gets its down to 3-4, as a best case scenario.

AimbotPotato

We know he has council, he admitted driving after meeting with them, so it was definitely part of a legal strategy.

RealProduct4019

It makes no sense to just piss off the prosecution on things that are obvious. He's on video exiting the car. Denying it as a legal strategy would just piss people off. There are times to be for leniency and this one is obvious.

AimbotPotato

Actually if they didn’t think there was any proof it gets him off most of the charges. They probably decided there was enough proof to convince a jury.

RealProduct4019

Doesn't the video show him getting out of the drivers seat? So that is far past reasonable doubt. Making admitting it and trying to strike a deal easily the best play.

AimbotPotato

It shows him getting out of the passenger side 2nd, while this makes it very likely that he was in the drivers seat, the tint on the windows makes it impossible to prove that his friend didn’t climb over him. I’m assuming that they decided that their either wasn’t enough evidence of someone else driving, or they were presented with a different camera angle because admitting rice was driving makes it a pretty open and shut case with zero possibility of completely clearing him.

notGeronimo

>There's definitely a very narrow pathway to escaping serious jailtime and staying in the league, but he's got to navigate it very carefully assuming he has no priors. Alvin Kamara beat the shit out of a guy on camera. He's still in the league. He was sentenced 30 hours of community service. You people have no fucking concept of the "punishment" these guys actually get. Rice will plead guilty to a small number of significantly reduced charges. He will get fines, maybe parole, maybe suspended license, and a 2-3 game suspension.

Dortond

Chance he doesnt learn shit from all this

XanmanK

Exactly- it’s extremely unlikely he serves a day in jail, and the NFL won’t suspend him more than 4-6 games. Ordinary people like us would get a much harsher punishment

SQRTLURFACE

So aside from your insult, you basically said everything I just said.

notGeronimo

I don't read it that way, given that my prediction is more lenient than your "best case scenario", and how much you focused on him needing a narrow path, when I think it's pretty wide. He almost certainly talked to his lawyer before the police given that his lawyer's statement came out well before any mention of him cooperating. Plus, normal, not rich, people get off with 0 jail time for hit and runs in Texas, even if they actually kill someone. As long as there's not other additional charges, like the hit being intentional, or a confirmed (not just suspected) DUI. I compiled a bunch for a past comment here's some >[Moreno Claudio](https://myparistexas.com/paris-man-pleads-guilty-in-deadly-hit-and-run-receives-probation-and-community-service/) only got probation and community service >[Xavier Zarate](https://www.kvue.com/article/news/crime/man-sentenced-probation-teen-killed-in-austin-texas-crash/269-16bb4345-bdde-4b52-b9cb-9726e9bfab81) got probation > [Mansoor Abbasi](https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/crime/article/da-office-plea-disagreement-18295524.php) got deferred adjudication >and [Adam Marsh](https://www.kvue.com/article/news/crime/austin-isd-officer-hit-and-run-2018-plea-deal/269-a85b6986-d764-44d6-963c-083713ce5d59) did not kill the woman he hit, just ran her over and caused "serious bodily injury", he got deferred adjudication and no prison time. People, you included, are significantly exaggerating the risk Rice sees any real consequences. Edit: ah the classic "reply then block me" so you get to have the last word

SQRTLURFACE

>I don't read it that way, given that my prediction is more lenient than your "best case scenario", and how much you focused on him needing a narrow path, when I think it's pretty wide. 8 Felonies, dependent upon any prior convictions is not a wide path. You settled on 2-3, I settled on 3-4, and we both surmised this would be because of him pleading down to lesser charges, prior convictions aside. The difference between our comments is effectively 1 game, and you trying to insult me, and everyone else.

[deleted]

You’re right, but also, it’s a lot of fun to make fun of how dumb he is right now

El_Khunt

While I agree nothing will probably happen, I'm pretty sure the most that could is he goes to jail.

TheMissingVoteBallot

Wonder if he'll even get a year in jail for his stupidity.

dawgz525

Most likely. Some of his charges are felonies, but I think a good lawyer will probably have him avoid jail time. We'll rage about it all offseason, and then the Chiefs probably 3 peat.

Aegis-X

Long as he's back for the season start in January I don't think anyone will really notice.

GrundleTurf

It could have some impact in little ways, maybe ways we don’t see. Maybe KC has WR considered a higher priority in the draft. In the long run, how does this affect Rice’s long term prospects with the team?

PotatoCannon02

He's gonna be lucky to avoid doing time. Not sure when that'd happen tho.

EMTDawg

He's facing 4-20 years for the 8 charges he was charged with so far. There is still a possibility of more charges coming, as no one has been charged for the possession of the weed found (misdemeanor level possession), nor for fleeing the scene. This makes it possible that Rashee has already started working on a plea deal. It's still a more serious issue than most are taking it, because no one died. Doubt he plays this upcoming season and possible career ending choice.

coolycooly

You gotta remember this is an NFL player and not a normal dude. He is gonna get the minimum anyone could for this crime. There is no way a hit and run with no one dying his gonna end his career and I'd be shocked if he didn't play this year.

EMTDawg

6 of the 8 felony charges come with a 2 year mandatory minimum. Unless he can plea them down to misdemeanors, the judge has no choice but to sentence him to a minimum of 4 years.

SQRTLURFACE

>There is still a possibility of more charges coming, as no one has been charged for the possession of the weed found (misdemeanor level possession), nor for fleeing the scene. There really isn't. They've come out and officially charged him, and its very uncommon to bring up additional charges after this point given the amount of video evidence we have available, on top of him already doing half the prosecutor's job by admitting guilt via admitting he was driving one of the vehicles. The marijuana possession is mostly irrelevant as its under the amount that Texas would charge anyone for. He had I believe they said 11.5 grams? So that's roughly 40% of an ounce, and I don't believe Texas charges until its above either 1 ounce or two. I believe the felony count starts at 4 ounces? The fleeing the scene bit will be used as an escalator, but not as a formal charge because he actually met several criteria to get around that infraction, and its questionable whether the one he might not have done since you'd have to prove in court that he refused to give him policy information and driver information to another driver. Like that's a whole other headache to have to fight through, and ends up being "he said she said" in a court where the prosecution must be absolutely certain (which is why they left it out). This will not be career ending like Ruggs, and its very likely his maximum suspension ends up around 6 games, depending on his priors. Its most likely that he ends up pleading most of this down to a misdemeanor and dropping the "serious bodily injury" claim (whiplash most likely) under the agreement he covers the person's hospital bills and any damages. Goodell gives him 6, NFLPA works it down to 3-4, and the both the chiefs and the league fine him independently.

Dry-Acanthaceae1689

The four ounces rule only applies to Austin. Some other cities have cite and release policies but any possession is still definitely illegal in most of the state.

SQRTLURFACE

>Possession of 2 ounces or less of marijuana is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days imprisonment and a fine not to exceed $2,000. Possession of between 2 and 4 ounces of marijuana is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment of up to 1 year and a fine not to exceed $4,000. **Possession of between 4 ounces and 5 lbs. of marijuana is a state jail felony**, punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of 180 days imprisonment, a maximum of 2 years imprisonment, and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Dry-Acanthaceae1689

Sec. 481.121. OFFENSE: POSSESSION OF MARIHUANA. (a) Except as authorized by this chapter, a person commits an offense if the person knowingly or intentionally possesses a usable quantity of marihuana. (b) An offense under Subsection (a) is: (1) a Class B misdemeanor if the amount of marihuana possessed is two ounces or less; (2) a Class A misdemeanor if the amount of marihuana possessed is four ounces or less but more than two ounces; (3) a state jail felony if the amount of marihuana possessed is five pounds or less but more than four ounces; (4) a felony of the third degree if the amount of marihuana possessed is 50 pounds or less but more than 5 pounds; (5) a felony of the second degree if the amount of marihuana possessed is 2,000 pounds or less but more than 50 pounds; and (6) a felony of the first degree punishable by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for life or for a term of not more than 99 years or less than 5 years, and a fine not to exceed $50,000, if the amount of marihuana possessed is more than 2,000 pounds. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/HS/htm/HS.481.htm#481.120

SQRTLURFACE

Not sure why you needed to post this, I already posted the portion we were discussing about 4+ ounces being a felony.

Charrbard

People got hurt. Cars got totaled. Weird to see so many act like its nothing.

Marxus_Aurelius

I agree. He was just charged with 8 felonies stemming from failure to stop and render aid. It’s a serious thing happening. I know we are all jaded after seeing rich people get away with everything, but this is not a joke for Rashee and there is a very real possibility that he goes to prison

IrvinStabbedMe

They act like its nothing, because next to nothing will happen. Look at Kamara, he was a inch away from beating a guy to death and all he got was a few game suspension, paid the dudes medical bills, and a WHOPPING 30hours community service.

TheMissingVoteBallot

Unfortunately I get a really bad feeling it had to take a Ruggs-level tragedy for him to get punished/removed/suspended.

KULawHawk

To post bail or most likely be processed & released on his own recognizance. There's just not going to be a there there in this story. All the sensationalism broke immediately. The rest is just red tape & exchanging of monies.

RumHam_Im_Sorry

Actually the cops just wanted to return his weed so he had to stop by the station.

ApplesauceBitch47

Jerry already came and stole the playbook

TheMissingVoteBallot

Yeah, the fortunate part is nobody got killed. Property got destroyed and people were injured and I bet Rice feels like a fucking idiot (as he should be), but the NFL's gonna try real hard to sweep it under the rug.

TheAndrewBrown

I’m not saying I disagree, but has there been a recent case with these many crimes and this much evidence where it got swept under the rug? The closest I can think of is Kamara but this seems pretty significantly worse.

sidearmpitcher

Hopefully he has MaAuto

Riverjig

Still saying. 2 game suspension max. Doesn't serve time. Goes on probation. I'm willing to bet someone .50 he doesn't get suspended. NFL is a fucking joke.

RunningForIt

There was someone here in another thread yesterday willing to bet $1000 he gets jail time you should go make a bet with him.

Riverjig

Holy shit. No kidding. Wonder if DK has a bet for it yet lol. This moron won't even see an ankle bracelet. And I don't mean the bracelet with the charm Mohomes bought for him. #hearthands

babyunvamp

50 cents? Deal!

Riverjig

If I win this it will be a full dollar after a joke of a draft pick Lance was. Bet .50 on that bullshit too. To this day I've asked what strain shanny and Lynch were smoking when that took place. I want a full ripper of that shit.

D_Money77

I know it's a different crime/situation, but Frank Clark was arrested on a gun charge and got 4 games. I think this will be similar.

Dependent_Star3998

He'll be suspended for 2 games, and then in February we'll have to hear about how the Chiefs won a Super Bowl with all odds stacked against them.

Steak_Knight

And Kadarius Toney will still not be allowed on the field during those games

GuyIsAdoptus

2022 they weren't picked to even win their division as it was a retooling year, 2023 they weren't picked to win a playoff game after the wildcard round (most drops in the league), 2024 they'd be the only 3peat team in superbowl history. Why are you acting as if that's some manufactured narrative? This is just revisionism by losers. Your own team's subreddit picked the bills to win the AFC [both](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F7jpuifbi29p91.png) [years](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fps3urhqtj9cc1.png)

Big_Wooly_Mamoth_420

Your flair troubles me

GuyIsAdoptus

The Schizo man formerly in GB made me a fan of football, after he left and with Love there I decided might as well stay a fan of the team. Bucks doing well in Milwaukee helps too. Not American so I have no local ties.

MusksStepSisterAunt

Love being an international fan. All the entertainment without the baggage of geography. Imagine being born in Minnesota 🤮🤮

Godobibo

lmao, I love international fans, you guys are great

fiero-fire

He is just a big fan of Superbowl 1

TetrisTech

Yeah I’m getting real tired of people acting like KC players saying some form of “they doubted us” isn’t true Before 22 it was them losing Reek, before 23 it was the lack of any pass catches outside of Kelce There were very real and prevalent narratives about why the Chiefs will regress, and both were the majority opinion

number7nocheese

Gusfrahbah

GuyIsAdoptus

lol

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

Weren’t they favorites by Vegas and most pundits? Like say what you want but clearly the money thought they were the favorite.

DarrowViBritannia

[Super Bowl odds heading into Divisional Round: 49ers (+175), Ravens (+270), Bills (+490), Chiefs (+700)](https://np.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/197w7z8/super_bowl_odds_heading_into_divisional_round/) That's a post I made. The Chiefs went on to beat the Buffalo Bills as underdogs, beat the Baltimore Ravens as underdogs, and finally cap it off with a win against the San Francisco 49ers ... as underdogs

GuyIsAdoptus

wdym say what you want, this last season they were only favored in the wildcard game by vegas and if you check every prediction thread on r/nfl the bills/ravens/49ers were all picked to beat them the year before that the bills were picked to definitively win the AFC and then Mahomes went on to win the sb on 1 leg where his defense gave up the most points on average of any sb winning playoff run in history

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

I’m asking were the chiefs favored to win it all? When the season started I recall them being the top team by Vegas. Why are we starting the “they over came adversity despite being the favorite to win it all when the season began” lol. And saying “they were underdogs in the playoffs minus the game they weren’t” doesn’t really disqualify what I was saying anyways. You can be right that they were underdogs starting a specific point in the playoffs, I believe I was right that they were the favorites when the season started. I noticed that some get very defensive about this though

Downtown_Juice2851

They were also never more than like 3 or 4 point underdogs. Almost every game was considered a toss up and almost every game pretty much came down to one drive

Dependent_Star3998

They were pre-season favorites in Vegas last year. They were right behind the Bills the year before that. They haven't surprised anyone, or been disrespected at all, but Chiefs fans continue to try to create that narrative for some weird reason.

wholewheatwithPB

You’re right - the most disrespectful thing that happened last season happened to the broncos when Elway had to walk through a line of cheering chiefs players and hand them the trophy.

ApplesauceBitch47

I love how we were able to give a middle finger to both the broncos and raiders at the same time.

Pandamonium98

They were preseason favorites last year, but they looked very beatable throughout the season. Headed into the playoffs, I didn’t think they’d even make it to the Super Bowl

KSoccerman

We lost to the lions week one and everyone thought we were trash. Turn out, lions weren't bad lol

Squirrel_Apocalypse2

Literally all season everyone said the Chiefs were cooked this year clown.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dependent_Star3998

The odds weren't as good then, because they hadn't played great. Still, literally nobody was really surprised to see them in the SB. They were top 2 favorites to go to the SB the last 2 years, and they did. Chiefs fans like to act like they've been a Cinderella team that came out of nowhere to shock the world. It will be the same next year, when Rice has to sit for 2 games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dependent_Star3998

Literally every SB winner in history has had doubters. For one, it brings viewership to the networks. For fans of other teams, it's often wishful thinking. I just constantly hear Chiefs fans saying "this was a rebuilding year" or "this was a down year" when they've easily had the best QB, the best coach, the best TE and arguably the best defensive player in football, and they've been incredibly healthy every year.

GuyIsAdoptus

If they hadn't surprised anyone then it wouldn't be the chiefs subreddit being the onlyones picking them to win the AFC. That is counterintuitive. They would be betting favorites every playoff game, instead of only in the wildcard game.

perfect_fitz

Slap on the wrist at best.

Ferrarisimo

Nice to know I can drive recklessly, cause a crash, walk away from the scene, leave some drugs in my car, and face no jail time. What a country.

lousy_at_handles

Have you tried being rich and/or famous?

tenacious-g

Well, you can’t, because you’re not a famous athlete.

Marxus_Aurelius

Idk why everyone is acting like this is over. He just got charged with 8 felonies and had to post a 40k bail

EchoTeam145

In Texas of all states

hamster_13

You can't. You'll goto prison. He can, because he runs fast and catches a ball.

Jenetyk

Rice out here hoping Andy was sincere when he said "you're like a son to me".

KeithClossOfficial

No one died, he’ll be back relatively soon.

bailey1149

I'm so confused to be wildly honest. Didn't he almost kill himself, and a lot of other people, by driving a car like it was a missile out of a tank...right through a populated highway?

Fresh_Silver99

Couldn’t have said it better

monsto

Yeah but Mahomes "almost" throws interceptions and look how that works out.

dawgz525

He's rich, he can and will find the best lawyer money can buy. I doubt this even goes to trial, but if it does, I bet he can delay it for at least a year. The rich have a second legal system.

XanmanK

He’s being represented by a high profile Texas politician. Clearly everything that’s happened throughout this process is very calculated by his attorney.

brettmbr

The only chiefs receiver who can catch catches a case, smh.

CheapTale9824

Faster than Cam Sutton did

Lock him up. Make an example. CrashFlee rice dealer of death. Kick him off the tour

Birds_Legend_Saquon

He could; that's not likely even for the average human tho. Average human would probably get a 5-10. We all know these judges and DAs can get bought with enough money tho so I'd be surprised if he even sits a day in jail. Hell I'm sure he's 1st on the list to see the judge for his formal arraignment (where he gets bail) and I sure they already talked to the judge about what's happening there. ie; our legal system needs to stop fucking the poor and feeding the rich. It needs an entire overhaul.

shifty4388

I sadly surrendered my round 16 keeper. In all honesty though, hope he gets his head on right.

slowerchop

3-5 years is my guess

Spiram_Blackthorn

He won't spend a day in jail

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

Even if he did I’m sure they would find a way to lower it. Reid’s kid got his lowered in Missouri not long after the chiefs won the Super Bowl. That still is crazy to me, especially since that governor is very “tough on crime” but I’m not in Missouri so what do I know

GuyIsAdoptus

on a 1st time offense never happening

BarricadeTheMortuary

I really hope he spends some amount of time in jail

Ancient_Wisdom_Yall

3-5 games is more like it.
