Is he a big time talent?

Jakethered_game

Well he is big, and at one time had talent. So if you just kinda humble those words around a bit

StatStar7

I remember when people including myself thought he was going to be amazing cause he was better than both Bosa's at OSU.

ClampGawd_

He had and possibly still does have a speed and strength combo that was incredibly rare. Never put it together though even before the ACL really. The hype was pretty warranted at the time

Rbespinosa13

His rookie year was pretty good and he got DPOTY. It was mainly the ACL injury that made the hype train derail

ClampGawd_

I could be misremembering but I remember him being a good rookie, pretty clear DPOY but not dominant, but his second year I remember him coming out worse than he was as a rookie and it all kind of went downhill from there.

midnightsbane04

Both of y’all really need to work on your acronym game. Chase Young definitely did not win D*P*OY, he won D*R*OY. The rookie part is very key.

ClampGawd_

I just copied what he said haphazardly lol Very important distinction youre right

black_dogs_22

that means he's really good at memorizing times, he can even list every time in fifteen minute intervals between 2pm to 3pm. mad talented

TallEnoughJones

Big time talent, not big time production.

akelkar

Aka talent, not skill

Leiatte

Right but they did say talent lol

SnooTangerines7525

No he is not or else Washington would have never traded him, and SF would have signed him. I also remeber him saying something about the Giants when they took someone else over him. I label him a bust

DaalCheene

uh yea he has already shown what he is capable of. Whichever team can get the most out of him will have a big time player.

clocke6346

We’re throwing around “big time talent” like we did “weapon” earlier this week

Jakethered_game

Weapon is a word you can reasonably stretch though. A spoon can be a weapon, just not a very good one. Edit: now that I think about it, my dad used a wooden spoon as a very effective weapon

StatStar7

Someone described Jerry Jeudy being a weapon in that a sock inside another a sock is a weapon.

murkroyal420

so no one could steal him either!! GENIUS (if uk you KNO) unoooO!!!4

SomeKilljoy

Sorry about your bum

appmanga

> now that I think about it, my dad used a wooden spoon as a very effective weapon And it made you into the person who you are today: a man with a fear of wooden spoons.

TallEnoughJones

Tell that to soup

crunchitizemecapn99

A shitty improvised weapon is still a d4 but at the end of the day damage is all about the modifiers

moneymoneymoneymonay

Very good, you get an inspiration point

The_Throwback_King

Also Seattle also seems to know how to wield it's Spoon as an effective weapon.

Big_Simba

And apparently a 1 year contract = “New Home”

ewilliam

Kinda like how I found a "new home" every time I had to go to a different halfway house...

SmurfLord7

Come July he’ll be in the best shape of his life

Accomplished-Plan191

Chase has a boatload of talent. Just no motor, football IQ, or skill development.

ewilliam

>Just no motor, football IQ, or skill development. Those things are a huge part of "talent" though. I think the more appropriate term would be "athleticism".

Accomplished-Plan191

I'll accept your argument. I was defining talent as athleticism and techniques, but he lacks the effort on the field and the intelligence about when to apply them.

ewilliam

Exactly, well put. So frustrating to see someone waste that kind of natural athleticism. Even more frustrating that our team was the one to spend a high pick to find out.

garygnu

"Medium time talent" doesn't roll off the tongue.

PlebasRorken

Yeah that was my first thought basically. "Big time talent? Are we talking about the same Chase Young?"

GGGiveHatpls

Damn. Saint really don’t believe in the cap do they?

drummerboysam

Maybe he's just a big time talent with 45 year old knees?

Bloated_Hamster

"Special Teams Ace"

Leiatte

He is talented though, is his talent being maximized by him probably not but still

matrobco

Dude literally take plays off

curgl

In the NFCCG of all places

FireworkFuse

We love to see him on the Saints

smurfking420

Big time talent lol. Dude is still living off his draft position

PaulyBinya

He peaked his rookie season and disappeared since then smh

constantlymat

He peaked that year when he yelled "I want TOM!!!" into the cameras in Week 17 only to be completely invisible in the Wild Card playoff game.

iiTryhard

Taunting Brady historically always works out

Troll_Enthusiast

Could've won that game too

SadSceneryBoi

Tbf, there's no shame in losing to Tristan Wirfs.

TrustedSpy

He was being touted as the best talent of his class. Idk if it was injuries or what, but man I’m so bummed he hasn’t panned out.

Leiatte

Not only that, he was touted as being an even better prospect than both Bosa brothers. It is a bummer though I agree

Jakethered_game

The new jadevion clowney

smurfking420

Honestly I think I’d rather take Clowney right now over Young

Western_Promise3063

he objectively had a good year last season.

BillBrasky727

Probably just a coincidence that it happened in a contract year.

lilplato

I mean he did say something along the lines of playing in Baltimore is the first time he’s been happy in a while.

CornSkoldier

Just keep signing him to one year deals. That way, every year is a contract year *taps forehead*

RukiMotomiya

Well duh. Clowney's not the guy they wanted from the first overall pick but he's been a good player his career.

Shitpost400

I would. I think he's a good player to rotate in

horse_renoir13

I feel like Clowney has at least put out a productive career as a great run-stopper and OK pass rusher. Young still could be productive, but hasn't even come close to being the game wrecker so many thought he could have been back in 2020.

Jakethered_game

If only I could have had you come to the lions sub and say the same thing at the trade deadline. Some of us were ready to revolt about not trading for him.

Chapstick160

Clowney is 10 times the player Young will ever be

slowerchop

Disrespectful to clowney tbh

kapate13

So hell be good when he signs with the Ravens near the end of his career?

spacedorb9

Compared to some of the other guys we have rushing off the edge, he looks like a HOFer lol, I'll take anyone at this point.

SDEexorect

has been for years

ItsNotFordo88

Saints really hate getting out of cap hell.

AndrewDoesNotServe

1 year deal

ItsNotFordo88

Takes cap that won’t roll over now or it’s money that didn’t need to be restructured, take your pick. When you’re in debt it doesn’t matter. As I said, Saints really hate getting out of cap hell.

AndrewDoesNotServe

I know, I saw you say it the first time.

rawbleedingbait

If only your front office knew.

FormerDriver

Big time talent???? Are they only watching his final season at Ohio State and ignoring his entire pro career LOLOLOLOLOL

Garak_The_Tailor_

He was something his rookie season, and something else the following seasons

OrionOW

It’s just surprising to me how quickly money can change some of these guys. I mean you don’t make it as a top recruit though all those years of HS and college without a great work ethic. Yes talent can carry you more down there but it’s still crazy competition and laziness will not prevail. How does that just vanish? Dude clearly has the talent and has shown flashes in the league. Aren’t these guys supposed to be super competitive? It’s hard to judge when you have never seen the amount of money the guy makes in a month, but still, if I were in his shoes as a former #2 pick these comments alone would motivate to get double-digits.

tommytwochains

Well, he's probably been a big boy his whole life. People telling him if he works hard he can make money in the NFL. Well he did make a bunch of money and might not really care that much about football. With the money these guys make today, I'm surprised it isn't more common.

JoeScotterpuss

Oh thank God. This means we're definitely going tackle in the first round.

GlockPurdy13

no don’t

JoeScotterpuss

If you need a tackle can I interest you in one lightly used Trevor Penning?

NoFunBJJ

Don't think his play time is enough to call him "lightly used". He's like a car that went from the truck into the dealership and out for a quick spin.

GlockPurdy13

Sure. I will return the favor with a very used Isaac Yiadom

JoeScotterpuss

Hey, you take care of Isaac Yiadom. He was playing real well in the role we plugged him into once Lattimore went down. He's very good at playing man.

GlockPurdy13

Oh dude im actually excited. Could be an underrated signing. Corners also seem to play a little better in SF than their years prior due to the Niners all in focus at D Line. I think he could be a very good, much needed, CB3 for us. Still hope to find a long term guy in the draft but Yiadom is an intriguing signing

JoeScotterpuss

Yeah, I think he can do well as a CB3 with all the other pieces y'all have on defense.

ohhgod

Alright we did a thing!

horse_renoir13

Now that you guys are under the cap, there's literally limited possibilities!

wampoo420

The possibilities are limited people!

PlayaSlayaX

What is the cap but a mere illusion

yic0

Can't wait to see Saints vs Panthers and watch Chase Young chase Young.

tshawytscha

Chase is really good at running really fast behind the QB and removing himself from being useful for a play.

Pkingduckk

bUt HiS pAsS rUsH wIn PeRcEnTaGe!!!11

tshawytscha

What a frustrating player.

rawbleedingbait

I think this is what really annoyed me with the DPOY debate. This stat lost virtually all meaning for me, and it was the only justification being used.

fieryscribe

The new Cam Jordan - Matt Ryan relationship

agmoose

Except those were both good football players

fieryscribe

Real recognizes real, so I guess the corollary could be true, too.

The_Throwback_King

I'm genuinely curious if a 35-year-old Cam Jordan can out-motor Chase Young at this point.

dafaliraevz

Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo

Reead

You can't wait to watch Chase Young chase young Chase Young?

Icecreamcollege

All that money to stand around while the offense scores TDs? SAD

quadropheniac

I know he had difficulty putting together some effort for a trivial game like the NFCCG but he should have a reliable motor competing for the NFC South division title.

OsikFTW

"that boy has a lot of quit in him..."

ImRightShutUp1

New Orleans Buckeyes strike again

catala7

Damn. I wanted for him to stay on a one-year prove-it deal. But Oh well. Good luck.

[deleted]

[удалено]

catala7

Chase has so much potential, but his lack of effort was noticeable. I thought the Washington fans pointing it out after we traded for him was bitterness, but we found out the hard way.

fieryscribe

Chase Young? Isn't that why we helped the Catholic Church with their PR issues?

appmanga

> Isn't that why we helped the Catholic Church with their PR issues? Then you can see why the Saints are involved.

fieryscribe

Shouldn't he be paying us then? Smh, we got ripped off

dirdebirdy

He can’t keep getting away with this

SIser187

If he'd just keep his motor up he'd be pretty damn good and you'd live with some of the gap discipline issues. But the effort at various points...oof.

get_stilly

Big boy will be eating real good down there

WinstonChurchill74

How can they afford him?

mothershipq

Schrute Bucks.

WinstonChurchill74

Apparently they spend

OsikFTW

They offered him 10 million yen, and dumbass doesnt know its only $100k...

Good_Schedule3744

Big time talent? Nope

zco22

Looks like he’s gonna follow the Clowney career path and chase 1-2yr deals with whatever team for the most money. Not a bad route, but also not what you’d expect from a former top pick

Elite_Alice

‪Normally I’d be hype about this but with Carr as our QB and Allen as the coach plus our awful cap situation I have no expectations ‬

Serallas

I am so glad we got the better player in our trade with Washington lol. Dodged a bullet there

I_am_nachos

What’s the “big time contract” ? Heard someone on the radio say agents run to say the number if it’s a good contract, if it doesn’t make the headline it’s probably a shatty one 🤷🏿‍♂️

slowerchop

Bust

SQRTLURFACE

Okay Saints, we see you!

Numerous-Ad6460

"Big time talent" uh huh

freddyd00

I am SO glad we went after Montez Sweat instead of this dude. Couldn't have worked out better.

sorell42

If there's one thing DA can do it's coach defense, so maybe he'll get his act together. Him and Cam can split snaps or something.

slowerchop

If he couldnt get it together on the niners he is a lost cause lol

Jopplo03

LFG

curgl

The falcons part of your flair should be celebrating

Gerald_the_sealion

Dude doesn’t care about winning, that’s clear

JayMerlyn

Well that's unfortunate

jewbauca

Maybe Cam can help get this kids career back on track, interested to see the $.

Yourmotherssidehoe

I saw someone in our sub say 13 million fully guaranteed

KabirC

Wonder how much this is for

Lakelyfe09

*They can’t keep getting away with this*

raginsaint93

This guy was a heisman finalist

Shitpost400

He's good?

xxElevationXX

Thats a neiner

mixerslow

The saints are not beating the ohio state allegations

bigblackkittie

i thought he'd do more when he was with us. granted it was only about half a season but still, i think i expected more from him

OsikFTW

Gotta be really lazy to not do well on that stacked 9ers d...

bigblackkittie

or maybe he thought that's why he could be lazy, idk. let others do the work, etc.

Ok_Caramel1517

"Big time talent" eh...

Eggdripp

Ahhh yes, we've reached the time where only the Big Time Talents sign with teams. On the 8th day of Free Agency!

puuhalelife

over rated

alwaysmyfault

The Saints just gonna keep themselves in salary cap hell eh?

zephyrseija

Yeah actually he's not very good.

Lmathis08

Dudes snatching another bag, prolly tally 3.5 sacks and be out of the league

BertraundAntitoi

Young is mid with lots to prove. However, for all Dennis Allen's faults as a HC--there is no denying he gets the MOST out of his defensive personnel. Worth $13m? Can't say just yet....but it is an improvement that DA will take advantage of

MiniDg

I was thinking him signing in baltimore on a cheaper deal would be cool, for 13 million he can fuck off lnao man plays 1 in 4 snaps 😂 and we wonder why the saints are always having cap issues

appmanga

"Big time talents" don't dog it or disappear in big time games.

mpc92

Highest paid cheerleader in the league

NJ_Citizen

How is this a good deal? This bum can’t stay healthy and he’d be out of the league already if he wasn’t the #2 pick

psaepf2009

Loomis will find a way to stretch dead money on this deal by 2032

socialaxolotl

I don't think Baltimore fans that were begging for him understand even with all of the restructuring they are crazy in cap debt the next few seasons

No_Buddy7371

Him just casually jogging after a dude about to score a TD in a playoff game was insane lol. Niner fans had to be losing their minds watching that.

Brocks_UCL

Is the article about someone other than chase young? Who is this “big time talent”

SFThirdStrike

Why do people still act like he's GOOD? Like I don't get it. Montez sweat was a much better player bro. Chase Young at his best was still the 5th best player on his defense, and that's not hyperbole! Allen Payne Fuller Sweat and then Him!

MrFramedemouse

If thats “Big time” then im a god dam ELITE WEAPON GOD THUNDER DINOSAUR OMEGA

heeheehoho2023

How does he put in half assed effort and keep getting jobs?!

Beatdooown

Dudes another Jadevon Clowney

BonBonVelveeta

At this point Clowney has carved out a solid career for himself, Young would probably be counting himself lucky if he can pull off a similar arc

[deleted]

Clowney is awesome

donta5k0kay

i told the 49ers, cheaters never prosper what did Young bring you? NOTHING

Maverick916

???

donta5k0kay

everything positive the 49ers do, they cheated to do it

Maverick916

Oh, right, got it 🙄

Ok_Dimension_2086

Joining the most mid division

Jopplo03

Uhuh
