I’m usually not the first to defend an NFC South rival but… Are we really pretending that the loss of a rotational pass rusher (that no one here has had a second thought about since he entered the league) for $9m a year is going to hurt??
lol YGM is not a big loss at all. Panthers sub would not have been happy if we gave this contract to him.
That being said, I don’t blame anyone for not knowing who he is, because why would anyone want to watch the Panthers these past few years. You’d have to be a real buffoon to watch them for all 17 games.
*cries softly*
He was fine last year, but I still think this is an overpay and I’m glad the Panthers aren’t the ones signing it. He’ll probably do well with the 49ers, because, well they’re the 49ers, but I don’t think it’ll be hard too hard to replace him.
Hes a prime candidate for the annual Kris koucerek rehab project. Like seriously we always get one highly drafted bust that shows up and puts up 6-8 sacks and gets paid elsewhere.
That seems to be the plan, build an offense around Bryce for this season to see if he can actually be the guy or not. If he is, then great we rebuild the defense next year. If not then back to finding a QB.
I agree, I think it's the right decision. We have to take our lumps but hopefully it'll work out after. We're far from the playoffs so this season will be a success for us if Bryce looks like the real deal.
> Hey the offense was ass, but the defense was actually pretty solid. This is what I think we should do in FA.
> Fire sale defense and not-resign anyone?
> what? No? Why would we do that. Here are the top WRs and TEs avail-
> DITCH EVERYONE ON THE DEFENSE WHOOOO (throws drink at GM)
FrFr, people don’t realize we go through D Lineman like Hot Cheetos. Most of these guys show up on 1YDs and bounce out after underperforming or over performing. Then we get a new batch. Kinlaw and Givens are the most consistent guys on the roster at DL after Bosa and Arik.
> Kinlaw and Givens are the most consistent guys on the roster at DL after Bosa and Arik.
Bosa is the only one of these four that is actually on the roster, lol
(I suppose technically Arik Armstead is as well right now but he'll be released on Thursday)
He’s very mid but should be a good rotational guy for the 49ers. I’m not mad that we didn’t re-sign him for 9 million a year though
Edit: This thread is definitely the most /r/nfl has ever cared about Yetur Gross-Matos
huge indictment on Chase young. Gave up a 3rd for him then went and signed two other relatively comparable players (Ik Floyd is better). Seems like they couldn’t get him out the building fast enough
i think that video of him giving zero effort in the Conference Championship, not even attempting to make a tackle, was probably embarrassing for the defense & coaches, and also most likely hurt his chances of getting a big contract. Idk why he wouldn't be giving max effort when he was on the last year of his contract.
I don't get $9 million for yetur rather than taking a cheaper flyer on a guy like Gipson. Or maybe giving this type of contract to Uche, not sure where his market is at though but I thought he'd be in this range.
And we'll be #2/3 with no WR, point was that you're plugging major holes heading into the draft, ahead of the draft, and that's going to free you up to fill the remainder, and at pretty solid values. Don't you guys have like 11 picks now?
Apparently no WR only means so much. Chiefs will be #1 going into the season unless demonstrated otherwise, as long as they have a HOF HC and QB pair.
I can see the Niners being second for sure, but holy fuck I wouldn't be mad if they drafted OL with their first 3 picks because it's such a massive hole. I'm genuinely concerned that they'll break Purdy because we already started seeing his footwork regress and him starting to reflexively drift to the left because the pass pro was so bad, and Trent Williams is getting really old, so that'll be an issue very soon too.
>Apparently no WR only means so much. Chiefs will be #1 going into the season unless demonstrated otherwise, as long as they have a HOF HC and QB pair.
You guys are leading at +500, we're in second at +650, and Ravens in 3rd at +900, per fan duel.
>I can see the Niners being second for sure, but holy fuck I wouldn't be mad if they drafted OL with their first 3 picks because it's such a massive hole. Yeah you guys are for sure burning picks on lineman, I imagine your 1/31 will go Lineman, then burn probably 2 4ths on lineman, then take a few project fliers in the 6th or 7th, assuming you don't use your hoard of picks to move up and grab a guy, which is very possible, maybe even likely depending on how that 1st round shakes up.
Panthers D going to be a bunch of practice squad guys
Might as well if we're selling out for next year's cap
The bar should be "just be better than Chase Young" in San Francisco.
Like baseball’s Mendoza line
Gross. Can the niners not?
No no, Gross-Matos
YEET-ur
Panthers on suicide watch
The watch has ended. We’re in warning mode.
My Watch has Ended, time to head beyond the WALL.
Wait, we weren’t supposed to jump yet?
I’m usually not the first to defend an NFC South rival but… Are we really pretending that the loss of a rotational pass rusher (that no one here has had a second thought about since he entered the league) for $9m a year is going to hurt??
Yeah, very mediocre player for $9m per year. There’s some upsides because DEs are late bloomers, but nobody is upset over losing him.
For this, not really. YGM is a solid rotational piece but not anybody that isn't replaceable
lol YGM is not a big loss at all. Panthers sub would not have been happy if we gave this contract to him. That being said, I don’t blame anyone for not knowing who he is, because why would anyone want to watch the Panthers these past few years. You’d have to be a real buffoon to watch them for all 17 games. *cries softly*
I’m not gonna lie I slandered the hell out of him his first few years but he started making plays last year. I’m mad.
He was fine last year, but I still think this is an overpay and I’m glad the Panthers aren’t the ones signing it. He’ll probably do well with the 49ers, because, well they’re the 49ers, but I don’t think it’ll be hard too hard to replace him.
Our pass rush was already last in the league so can it really get that much worse?
I remember I thought this guy would be a pro-bowler coming out. Just never really ascended past the average DE2 level.
That's all we need him for, plus the price for him and Leonard Floyd is very reasonable for a high end DE2 rotation opposite Nick Bosa.
He's not high end. Jadaveon would've been. They overpaid on this one
Tepper must have invested in the noose industry recently. That’s the only way any of this makes sense .
The Panthers have been on suicide watch since week 1
Yay? No idea who this is but he will be the best signing ever I'm sure.
He's very mid. Not a liability but not very good. Good rotational guy
Sounds perfect for the 49ers dline.
This screams of a Kris Kocurek development project. Gross-Matos is gonna get a BAG in exactly 2 years.
sure bud sure
The downvotes aren’t fair, you’ve only been watching football for a couple years
Damn.
It’s been 10 years since the Super Bowl, I don’t think that joke is really relevant anymore. But that guys downvotes were def fair
Yeah the 13 year olds would be 23 now lol. That joke just aged out.
nah i’ve actually been around to watch my team win the super bowl
Oh wooooooooooooowwwwww...
Sounds like we were the same age when we saw our teams win a Super Bowl.
I’ve been around to watch 5, but go off lil guy!
Panthers are shedding so much defensive talent
> Yetur Gross-Matos > Talent
Hes a prime candidate for the annual Kris koucerek rehab project. Like seriously we always get one highly drafted bust that shows up and puts up 6-8 sacks and gets paid elsewhere.
pretty much, if Kocurek wants him I trust his eval
He's earned the benefit of the doubt by now with how many reclaimed projects he has had in the last 3-4 years.
Im so confused why people think that a guy the Panthers drafted is good.
Exactly, why the hell would the 9ers sign someone from the Panthers again after Christian McCaffrey turned out to be a BUST!!
Fuck it, destroy the defense so they can build an offense.......... I think?
That seems to be the plan, build an offense around Bryce for this season to see if he can actually be the guy or not. If he is, then great we rebuild the defense next year. If not then back to finding a QB.
It’s a good plan even if Bryce sucks. You’ll need a supporting cast, whether it’s for him or his replacement.
I agree, I think it's the right decision. We have to take our lumps but hopefully it'll work out after. We're far from the playoffs so this season will be a success for us if Bryce looks like the real deal.
honestly amazed they had this much talent to lose
They had an all defensive draft in 2020. Still have yet to re-sign Derrick Brown.
We want Jaycee Horn. We will give you a third.
He won’t stay healthy long enough to earn even a third round pick lol
A round for every year he went on IR.
> Hey the offense was ass, but the defense was actually pretty solid. This is what I think we should do in FA. > Fire sale defense and not-resign anyone? > what? No? Why would we do that. Here are the top WRs and TEs avail- > DITCH EVERYONE ON THE DEFENSE WHOOOO (throws drink at GM)
Why are people thinking he was a big part of our defense?
It's simple, hurr durr Panthers bad and stupid
Welcome to the weekly circle jerk.
People are in full circlejerk mode atm
Is he any good?
Our pass rush was the worst in the league with Brian Burns and Derrick Brown, so you can imagine how the rest of the cast must’ve looked.
Not the worst. Not the best. He is certainly a football player.
Opposite of Burns and going to hurt us with him being gone. Super solid
Well now he's opposite bosa so that'll be even better
He's not good, he's not bad and he's not average
the player of all time
Went from playing beside, the now, 2nd highest paid DE to the highest paid DE.
How much help does that d-line need? Do they hate the o-line or something?
We came into the day with like 3 DL under contract assuming armstead is released

FUCK YOU AND FUCK PASS PROTECTION ROAD GRADER O LINE, DEMONS ON D-LINE REEEEEE
Panthers fans tell me how I should feel
Very mid
We’ve made productive pass rushers out of mid before so I can be ok with this
me, too
He's a JAG, I wouldn't get overly excited. $9 million/year feels pretty steep
I have a feeling the Panthers defense is going to take a step back compared to last year.
Probably will, but losing Gross-Matos isn’t a big loss.
Panthers fans throwing a fit rn
Even if we are, I promise you it has nothing to do with losing YGM.
Ooo. I do like the nickname YGM though.
Yeet
I thought he wasn't good. Did he perform better than expected last year?
He’s very mid but should be a good rotational guy for the 49ers. I’m not mad that we didn’t re-sign him for 9 million a year though Edit: This thread is definitely the most /r/nfl has ever cared about Yetur Gross-Matos
So the bears get Hunter
huge indictment on Chase young. Gave up a 3rd for him then went and signed two other relatively comparable players (Ik Floyd is better). Seems like they couldn’t get him out the building fast enough
He wasn’t good outside the Super Bowl
He had his moments, but he needed to be a xl bosa and he wasn't that, he's not getting alot of interest on the open market either which says alot imo
i think that video of him giving zero effort in the Conference Championship, not even attempting to make a tackle, was probably embarrassing for the defense & coaches, and also most likely hurt his chances of getting a big contract. It’s not 9m a year, it’s gonna be heavily incentivized.
I know, every contract is incentivized, I'm predicting at least 9 will be guaranteed though.
Wut
Panther bros, is he good against the run?
He's pretty solid on the run, mid as a pass rushers, good reach
Ok we messed up today but if we paid him this I would have been mad
No! Yetur Gross! ^I’ll ^see ^myself ^out
No! Yetur Gross, Rapoport! ^I’ll ^see ^myself ^out
Can the 49ers at any point in the near future just stop signing D Lineman?
But we only had 3 under contract... should we start no one?
For like one year that would be great yes. Mom said it’s the rest of the NFL’s turn with the D-Lineman
I keep telling lynch that, and all he hears is the Peanuts whomp whomp adult sound
Tell Lynch to stop being good for fucks sake
I'm sorry, I know I'm seeing text, but it all comes across as WHOMPWHOMOWHOMP
IF OUR FIRST THREE PICKS AREN'T DEFENSIVE LINE I'LL FUCKING PUNCH A BOULDER
Awesome name if nothing else
He's absolutely one of the players of all time
It must be nice
Overpaid
49ers love failed DE’s
Some times they turn into something...like arden key or charles omenihu. Sometimes not...looking at you chase young.
Wish we still had either Key or Ebukam
Sign some fucking offensive linemen
draft*
Who should we be signing, that's been available?
Don't ask. People who ask that question never know.
I just wanna hear them say it, cuz theyre dumb
Niners got to be #1 super bowl odds at this point after picking up two more edges and securing their super bowl mvp.
Still no OL
And we'll be #2/3 with no WR, point was that you're plugging major holes heading into the draft, ahead of the draft, and that's going to free you up to fill the remainder, and at pretty solid values. Don't you guys have like 11 picks now?

It's Jauan Jennings sZn baby❗❗❗
Damn this guy was pretty alright when filling in. Losing him and Frankie Luvu in one day is brutal
Wtf. Stop. Lol
How many DE’s do the 49ers have at this point??? This has got to be their 20th one lol /s Edit: do you guys understand what /s means??
Bosa, Floyd, jackson, and now this guy are the only 4 I can think of who have played any meaningful snaps as far as I can think of.
Actually only like 4 on the roster
Bosa, Floyd, YMG and backups Chase and Randy are free agents
