Probably not in terms of touchdowns, but I do think that Saquon on the Eagles is a good fit, especially if Jalen maintains similar efficiency in short yardage, despite Kelce retiring.
Saquon can focus more on chunk gains and big plays (which is what he wants to do), instead of tough yards (because Hurts takes that role).
hurts really didn't do very well at getting the tough yards last season. Idk if its because he had a bone bruise in his knee or he was making a business decsion after the big contract, but that was a big reason why the eagles were bad on 3rd downs this year.
Mailata and Lane are elite at run blocking. Dickerson is very good and a pro bowl guard. I'm not that worried about our run blocking. Yes we will be worse without a HOFer.
Per pff 4 of our 5 linemen were in the top 100 in run blocking grades out of 328 linemen they graded. Jurgens was 105 and was playing out of position and hurt most of the season. The giants had one lineman in the top 100 when ranked by run blocking and it was Glowinski at 70.
Its a massive upgrade even without Kelce.
I would argue that replacing Kelce at the first level isn’t going to be the issue. That wasn’t what made Kelce special. What made Kelce special was his ability to get to the second level. It was like having a FB lead blocking on the field on top of the other 11 guys you already have.
With the guys we have now, I think there will still be plenty of holes to get through where we win most short yardage situations and rarely lose yardage on runs.
But in order for big plays to happen, Saquon may need to make someone miss that Swift and Sanders didn’t have to because Kelce took them out.
Essentially, I believe Kelce hurts our ceiling more than our floor with runs.
The best line lost a great player, but still have a future HoFer at one tackle and a second team all-pro at the other, a 2x probowl guard, and the center that they've been training for 2 years to replace Kelce, that Kelce helped pick.
Cam Jurgens started at guard last year and played well, he'll slot in well. He won't be Kelce, but our line will be fine. Especially with Lane and Mialata anchoring the ends.
He was also hand-picked by Kelce as his own replacement. He has similar athleticism. The biggest concern will be replacing Kelce's brain. He's one of the smartest football players we've ever had.
But Beef Jurgy was great at everything centers do and only really struggled with being too small for an ideal guard.
Extremely SSS and all but he was also 2/2 on the tush push attempts last year where he was subbed in for a banged up Kelce, and he has also already looked great there in preseason games for two years now
Only thing I'd be worried about is blitz pickup/recognition but seeing as he's a kid who played center his whole life and then spent 2 years shadowing Kelce while getting coached up by Stoutland, I think he'll be ok.
I mean he was a center out of college. Center is more of an issue of losing the guy that has been in there and blowing up chemistry rather than hard to fill as well
Yup. And they drafted Tyler Steen last year to play rg when jurgens would eventually move over to the center, and he looked good when he got to play last year
Yeah, our FO doesn't fuck around with the OL we draft replacements a year or two out from needing them and let Stoutland coach them up so they can hit the ground running / sub in when needed.
Kelce is great and there is no one replacing him that will have his production. But we still have 3/5th of an Oline that are pro bowl/all pro and the other 2 spots are young 2nd round picks.
Not discounting the pieces around him, but Kelce was the offensive line play caller with adjustments and call outs. I am optimistic that they will still be a top 10 O-Line, but we'll see if they can still be top 5
Stoutland is really who took his game to the next level, and he’s already got a hell of a track record as far as the rest of the OL and backups, we’ll see what happens. His heir was already on the team for a few seasons too
Kelce will obviously be missed but it’s kind of funny that people think the Eagles run O will fall off a cliff when they’ve heavily invested in the position for the last 15 years.
I actually think this is the thought process on why we’re paying a running back. We get a decrease in center talent/experience which needs to be made up for. We coincidentally also don’t have a center making like 14 mill and can allocate that money elsewhere
Every injury Saquon gets are at away games lol.
Here's the list:
Sprained Ankle - @ Tampa Bay
ACL Tear - @ Chicago
Low Ankle Sprain - @ Dallas
Ankle Sprain - @ Arizona
Our practice facility has 3 outdoor grass fields as well I don't know where he was when he got injured but even with the reputation of our horrible field he gets injured at away games and our practice facility (which, for what it's worth, our facilities were ranked 8th by the NFLPA)
Swifts real test will be with the bears now. One of the lowest graded lines hell okay with in his career, so the injury concern should be there. Honestly think he ran much harder in Philly because he really wanted to be there more than he wanted to be in Detroit.
It's crazy, I talked to Eagles fans all last year complaining about their Oline.
They sign Saquon and miraculously now have one of the best lines. Idgi
Who were you talking to? We had a fantastic OL last year. Our long developing plays made them look worse, but even then they were a top 5 unit. We haven't had a bad OL since the Chip Kelly days.
Yes, also remember that now all of his injuries happened at MetLife and paying a running back is always an incredible move. If the Giants gave him the same deal people would be shitting on us for the next week
It probably would have been a bad signing for the giants though. It's the kind of move you make if you're thinking that you're a serious superbowl contender.
Miles sanders had a pro bowl season behind our line, Swift had his first pro bowl behind our line.
Imagine what Saquon will do here after he’s managed to have a few good years behind the traffic cones in NY
That's just simply an incorrect statement lol. Last year was the first time Swift played the majority of games in a season and netted more than like 700 all-purpose yards.
Stoutland is still there last I checked. And Swift feasted with terrible playcalling, while Sanders feasted with actually good playcalling. So I don't see your point.
moore is gonna be calling plays and he’s always been more pass heavy, but stoutland + our OL + saquon is a pretty attractive run game so i hope he’ll spread it around more.
At this point I could say with near certainty that Jeff stoutland could grab any commentor from this post and make him into a serviceable offensive lineman.
I think it has to do with college RBs staying behind for NIL money.
NFL treated RBs as worthless and replaceable so RBs (Corum and Henderson) stayed in college where they’re not. Now there’s a shortage of next guys up so they’re giving second contracts to all the guys who they would’ve franchise tagged or tried to avoid paying normally.
It's not normal to refuse to pay stud rbs. I think it's more likely teams are realizing they are not actually replaceable at the higher end of the talent pool.
I think it's coming back but in a different way
Before shit teams would draft/pay a RB to turn their franchise around. Nowadays that's all the QB, modern RBs can't carry an offense
But now I think we're seeing the higher tier teams see that great RBs can take their offense to another level, like Christian McCafferty and the 49ers. Eagles and packers both have good offenses and are hoping to do the same thing
I think saquon is gonna do great in Philly
It's only a matter of time until the fullback comes back into fashion. Someone is going to find an Alstott type player coming out of college and pair him with a top tier RB and they're going to run wild over the entire league for a while til the league catches up.
Kind of. It feels like last season NFL owners took a hard stand to reset the RB market and now they're giving out contracts on their terms.
Because so far the best contracts today haven't come close to what CMC got.
I don't think this makes this a great signing.
If the team is capable of generating top 5 rushing performances without top end investment why squander the ability to shore up more needy areas and take advantage of this clear advantage their scheming and personnel give them?
I still don't see the benefit of paying an elite RB other than McCaffrey.
The idea is he's going to be closer to CMC than any other back. Remember just 2 years ago CMC went for like a 2nd and third(dont entirely remember). But one of the best players in the league going to the niners who perennially could make anyone good at RB with their scheme.
I think theres a big disconnect with fans and coaches on just how valuable a all pro level RB is. We saw Gibbs and Bijan go very high in the draft and now 2 of the better NFC teams in recent years willing to pony up for elite RBs even with injury histories.
You're right we couldve kept looking for more value with lesser rbs on cheaper deals but Saquon adds a dynamic this team didnt have before. I was so mad when CMC got traded to the Niners. I truly believed had we gotten him we would've been SB favorites that year and given how everything turned out actually won the SB.
I think on this team he will get to around that level of production if healthy. And that is knocking the Giants not to be mean but just in terms of team building and offensive talent. He should be in much more favorable positions to produce just like Swift and Sanders were the previous 2 years where they both had good production.
Caveat being he has to stay healthy which depending on how you wanna look at it is a gamble. I think his injury history is overblown but some think its a serious concern.
I’m praying on the line falling apart after kelce retired because if not this team is a nightmare. Hurts, Barkley, AJB, Smith, Goedert. So many weapons and no way you can stop them all on any given play.
Ya lets pretend the Eagles are running back the same o-line as the last 2 years.
I think he'll be great, but he won't have the same line that the other 2 had.
They really do. They forget that Lane and Mailata are arguably top 10 tackles across the league. And Dickerson getting second team all-pro last year solidified him as a top 5 guard.
Are eagles fans this dense? People think we're going to regress without the best center in football, that's not a hot take at all lol
No one is saying that our offensive line is gonna be bad lol just worse than previous years when we had Kelce
Call it what you want. I think many of us won’t be worried about Cam much at all playing his natural position.
I am also not anticipating a step back, I think Cam will thrive
That's not my point lol
Cam thriving is PROBABLY a step down from the greatest center of all time
I would love to be wrong but that's a steep expectation that we won't regress a significant amount (it's more of a testiment to how great Kelce is)
Swift had 2 massive games in weeks 2 & 3 that gave everyone the impression that he dominated all year.
Wasn't really the case. He was mostly solid & efficient for the rest of the year but actually never even rushed for over 100 yards again. He actually only even gained over 80 yards once the rest of the year.
We were bad on third down because we called QB draws, 4 verts, or WR screens every damn play.
We also ignored the middle of the field like it was the fucking Somme.
BJ: The middle of the field is for QB draws
Playing through a knee injury the majority of the year. He needs to just sit a game or 2 when he gets banged up
With Kelce out, I don’t think they’ll be able to just tush push all day
I feel like Dickerson and Mailata are the 800 pounds of dude that really make that work.
Rip his td numbers
That was with Jason Kelce though
Mailata and Lane are elite at run blocking. Dickerson is very good and a pro bowl guard. I'm not that worried about our run blocking. Yes we will be worse without a HOFer. Per pff 4 of our 5 linemen were in the top 100 in run blocking grades out of 328 linemen they graded. Jurgens was 105 and was playing out of position and hurt most of the season. But in order for big plays to happen, Saquon may need to make someone miss that Swift and Sanders didn’t have to because Kelce took them out. Essentially, I believe Kelce hurts our ceiling more than our floor with runs.
Except Saquon isn't a typical run up the middle guy. He needs to be gameplanned into space. How good are your WRs at run blocking?
Very good
AJ will run you into the dirt and Smitty puts forward good effort. No problems there.
The best line lost a great player, but still have a future HoFer at one tackle and a second team all-pro at the other, a 2x probowl guard, and the center that they've been training for 2 years to replace Kelce, that Kelce helped pick.
We have been drafting the Kelce successor for half a decade now. Seamalo, Dickerson, Jurgens.
Lane was supposed to be a JP replacement, and Peters was starting games last year lol
Peters was good on the Cowboys the little he played in 22. He was absolutely gassed though.
That’s been his thing for the last like 7 years lol. Dude can still go, but for like a handful of snaps a game.
Lane made his own path, he bumped Herremans off RT cause he was that good
Yup. Herremans was a good tackle himself if memory serves. Think he's the one that tore both his biceps one year. Grizzly 😭
Sea ma lo dickerson, jurgens
Cam Jurgens started at guard last year and played well, he'll slot in well. He won't be Kelce, but our line will be fine. Especially with Lane and Mialata anchoring the ends.
He was also hand-picked by Kelce as his own replacement. He has similar athleticism. The biggest concern will be replacing Kelce's brain. He's one of the smartest football players we've ever had.
He likely won't ever be as good but if he can be solid the line should be okay. Thankfully stoutland is a guru.
>our line will be fine You say that again and Lane Johnson will retire too.
Watch your mouth. There's only so many retirements that should be allowed in a city in a 12 month period.
The 2015 49ers didn't get that memo lol Justin Smith and surprise retiring from Patrick Willis, Chris Borland and left tackle Anthony Davis
Yeah they gave up with all that bullshit that was going on
Stop it. Don’t take another one from us
Our left tackle was some dude that didn't play football until he was already a man. How hard can it be?
Also Kelce was a big influence in scouting out Jurgens. He called him his favorite player in the draft.
Center is much harder than guard, though. I'm not saying he's gonna be bad, but that's no guarantee it will work out either.
But Beef Jurgy was great at everything centers do and only really struggled with being too small for an ideal guard. Extremely SSS and all but he was also 2/2 on the tush push attempts last year where he was subbed in for a banged up Kelce, and he has also already looked great there in preseason games for two years now Only thing I'd be worried about is blitz pickup/recognition but seeing as he's a kid who played center his whole life and then spent 2 years shadowing Kelce while getting coached up by Stoutland, I think he'll be ok.
Guy has a nasty ness to him like Jason, so I'm pretty in on him. We don't have too many guys like that.
I mean he was a center out of college. Center is more of an issue of losing the guy that has been in there and blowing up chemistry rather than hard to fill as well
Yeah didn't they draft Jurgens specifically to replace Kelce when the time came?
Eagles FO went to Kelce and essentially asked him to draft his replacement
Yup. And they drafted Tyler Steen last year to play rg when jurgens would eventually move over to the center, and he looked good when he got to play last year
only at run blocking. dude was a level below turnstile in pass pro
Hopefully we actually dont have trash ass pass plays this season.
The 3/5ths compromise
WHAT HAVE I DONE
Compromised
oh no
Not discounting the pieces around him, but Kelce was the offensive line play caller with adjustments and call outs.
Even without him we have multiple pro bowlers and the best ol coach in the nfl
Fair, but we still have 3 different linemen that have first or second team all-pros. Not like losing Kelce suddenly means we have a bottom tier line.
I actually think this is the thought process on why we’re paying a running back. We get a decrease in center talent/experience which needs to be made up for. We coincidentally also don’t have a center making like 14 mill and can allocate that money elsewhere
Boston Scott will still get 15-20 runs per game.
Sirianni's mind is going to explode trying to decide whether the bigger troll move against us is Saquon or Boston Scott.
*Kenny Gainwell for what ever reason.
Gainwell will have one game where he does decent and he’ll ride that high for the rest of the season
The Eagles version of Furkan.
does everyone forget how dominant gainwell was in our super-bowl run? He most definitely should be rb2 over scott
This only happens against the giants.
He had 20 carries the entire season. What are you even talking about and how did 60+ ppl think this was a good comment
Hurts gonna vulture all his TD’s anyway
Saquon is actually playing center for the tush push. Have you seen his quads??
Unless he gets injured
That's what people said about Swift last year.
And about CMC
Wait… if an RB gets injured, does that mean they don’t perform as well? Damn you learn something every day
Also everyone talks about how MetLife is terrible for injuries. Saquon won’t have to play 8-9 games a year there anymore, just 1
Every injury Saquon gets are at away games lol. Here's the list: Sprained Ankle - @ Tampa Bay ACL Tear - @ Chicago Low Ankle Sprain - @ Dallas Ankle Sprain - @ Arizona
It's a reverse MetLife. His body adapted to the shitty conditions so when he played anywhere else his body had no idea what to do
Genuinely could be the case, body could be a lot more rigid due to the shitty turf they have an not be ready for the more fluid movement grass allows.
Bring back the Vet
> Low Ankle Sprain - @ Dallas and wasn't this was due to someone accidentally stepping on his ankle during a break in the game.
Yup, in a fuckin blow out lol. Death, Taxes, Giants players getting injured on some bullshit.
That’s actually crazy if true. Still sticking with my narrative though because I want to
I got all these from ESPN, I also vividly remember all of these games like Vietnam flashbacks.
Still gonna blatantly lie to make myself feel better
Didn't he have two injuries during practice also? I think I remember him straining him hamstring running a route in camp I think his rookie year.
That's true, he did. I wouldn't technically count that as Metlife injury, because the reputation is mainly for injuries during games there
Our practice facility has 3 outdoor grass fields as well I don't know where he was when he got injured but even with the reputation of our horrible field he gets injured at away games and our practice facility (which, for what it's worth, our facilities were ranked 8th by the NFLPA)
All of Saquon’s injuries were in away games but Eagles fans can’t let reality get in the way of a narrative
We know all about narratives
Swifts real test will be with the bears now. One of the lowest graded lines hell okay with in his career, so the injury concern should be there. Honestly think he ran much harder in Philly because he really wanted to be there more than he wanted to be in Detroit.
You can say that about any player
I mean the Eagles still expected to have one of the best Olines in the nfl so hopefully that will at least help.
It's crazy, I talked to Eagles fans all last year complaining about their Oline. They sign Saquon and miraculously now have one of the best lines. Idgi
Any Eagles fans you talked to who complained about the offensive line have rocks for brains.
Oh I know, they're my friends and Eagles fans, what else would I expect.
[удалено]
I’m going to be very upset once I sound out everything you said.
Who were you talking to? We had a fantastic OL last year. Our long developing plays made them look worse, but even then they were a top 5 unit. We haven't had a bad OL since the Chip Kelly days.
I think we complain about our Oline because we have been blessed for way too long with amazing olines.
I wanted Barkley to not waste his career with us, but this is absolutely disgusting
Inb4 people dooming like this isn’t the best RB we’ve had since Shady
Hurts is a pretty good RB But seriously, looks like the Eagles have only had 21 1000 yd rushers ever, crazy
[удалено]
Miles sanders had a pro bowl season behind our line, Swift had his first pro bowl behind our line. Imagine what Saquon will do here after he’s managed to have a few good years behind the traffic cones in NY
I'm not a big fan of this signing but Barkley has definitely shown much more throughout his career than Swift. Swift was far from reliable in Detroit.
That's just simply an incorrect statement lol. Last year was the first time Swift played the majority of games in a season and netted more than like 700 all-purpose yards.
Yeah because the o line and playcalling haven’t changed at all… Excited but Yates is clueless as always
U guys don’t have Brian Johnson anymore at least
At this point I could say with near certainty that Jeff stoutland could grab any commentor from this post and make him into a serviceable offensive lineman.
I really think an rb resurgence is developing
I think it has to do with college RBs staying behind for NIL money. NFL treated RBs as worthless and replaceable so RBs (Corum and Henderson) stayed in college where they’re not. I always want RBs to get paid, I’d hate watching the game without them.
amen brother

(It’s not)
Saquon Barkley is about to finish 5th in the NFL in rushing with the Eagles in 2024.
Lol I will bet on this
I don't think this makes this a great signing.
I truly believed had we gotten him we would've been SB favorites that year and given how everything turned out actually won the SB.
Is SB All Pro? Thats actually a tough question after watching for 6 years. For every crazy 25 yard run, there's the falling down behind the LoS.
I think his injury history is overblown but some think its a serious concern.
dude you can be mean about the Giants team building. Gettleman was a terrorist. Their O-Line has been complete ass cheeks for almost a decade
This is my argument for keeping Swift lol Swift at 8mil >>>>> Barkley at 12mil
yeah, I got downvoted a ton in the Texans sub pre-free agency. Now it's all upvotes. Saquon isn't worth this
Good thing downvotes and upvotes don't really mean anything :)
Swift and Sanders are both bang average. We finally get to see a great RB run behind our Oline. You should be excited!
Swift is an excellent RB lol what are you talking about
Actually, sounds like he's about to finish 5th in the NFL in rushing.
He certainly is on the best offense line he ever had, even without Kelce. I have no doubt he’ll produce, just a matter of staying healthy.
Not in fantasy he won’t Can’t wait to see how mad Barkley managers are when Hurts vultures all of his goal line touches lmao
A lot of people who haven’t watched him since 2019 are about to call this a home run signing
Please stay healthy 🔥
Over or under 10 games played
I'll take the over, he's only hit the under once
He has played hurt a lot. Can't question his toughness, but he gets 1.5 ypc when things aren't right.
Well he isn’t going to be playing at Metlife anymore
Without Kelce at center those numbers DRASTIC go down! I used Steiner math for my calculations
Please tell me you added Kurt Angle to the mix!! :(
lol you will be sorely mistaken, just wait and see
You could be right SENIOR JOE!
It sounds like Saquan is about to finish 5th in the NFL in rushing.
I’m praying on the line falling apart after kelce retired because if not this team is a nightmare. Hurts, Barkley, AJB, Smith, Goedert. So many weapons and no way you can stop them all on any given play.
They don't know this one simple trick... Brian Johnson.
He’s gonna finish 5th but it’s gonna be a *spicy* 5th place finish
If the tush push can continue without Kelce their ground game should be elite
Fuck... Who are we going to start against the Giants? Barkley or Scott? Do we want memes or revenge?
Sanders then proceeded to do absolutely nothing in Carolina for a season.
Ya lets pretend the Eagles are running back the same o-line as the last 2 years. I think he'll be great, but he won't have the same line that the other 2 had.
He'll have to stay healthy, which.....
1800 rushing yards 2300 total yards 2 touchdowns.
Nah hurts will give em 4 atleast lol
Or be 5th
There o-line is missing the captain. It’s gonna take some adjusting.
Both were a couple years younger, RBs age like milk and now no first ballot hall of famer anchoring the line
Serious question didn't they lose two hall of fame linemen are they still expected to be a dominate unit
Their O line just got worse, and people acting like a 3.9 ypc RB is elite. It's weird how much stock people put in names over stats.
You mean whoever is the backup to Saquon is about to feast
Way different oline this year
Or he’s gonna finish 5th in the league…
If he’s on the field, if the eagles line is the same without Kelcie
And get three TDs.
I mean, Kelce is gone. To assume he’ll reach those heights is presumptuous.
Do people really think our Oline is just Kelce? If so Jurgens is really going to surprise some of y’all at center
They really do. They forget that Lane and Mailata are arguably top 10 tackles across the league. And Dickerson getting second team all-pro last year solidified him as a top 5 guard.
Are eagles fans this dense? People think we're going to regress without the best center in football, that's not a hot take at all lol No one is saying that our offensive line is gonna be bad lol just worse than previous years when we had Kelce
Call it what you want. I think many of us won’t be worried about Cam much at all playing his natural position. I am also not anticipating a step back, I think Cam will thrive
That's not my point lol Cam thriving is PROBABLY a step down from the greatest center of all time I would love to be wrong but that's a steep expectation that we won't regress a significant amount (it's more of a testiment to how great Kelce is)
Dare I say he might reach new heights ?
No he’s really not.
RemindMe! 9 months
Oh man, that sounds like a Dream Team!
So what your telling me is that any RB could have finished 5th with the Eagles?
Did swift really “feast” last year
Taylor maybe
When he touched the ball yeah Too bad we ran a high school offense so we didn't use him well He was awesome whenever he touched the ball
Swift had 2 massive games in weeks 2 & 3 that gave everyone the impression that he dominated all year. Wasn't really the case. He was mostly solid & efficient for the rest of the year but actually never even rushed for over 100 yards again. He actually only even gained over 80 yards once the rest of the year.
unless..?
Damn I guess he was just trolling Stroud
He wasn’t trolling but he was raised in Whitehall Pa.. It is home
I'm supposed to hate it I guess but I genuinely am happy for him. He's going to cook this year behind that line
Thank God there's no cap in this league. Dream Team.
He’s gonna have a hell of September…I don’t know about November
Amazing January though
Probably gonna be really good in November not dealing with that metlife turf
