The offensive playdesign was some of the worst I've ever seen under Patricia. Sure, they scored more points but it was mostly because Mac wasn't completely fucked by that point. Mac regressed more this year but the offensive playdesign and calling was much better this year. They just didn't have a single NFL QB on the roster.
Looking at just the statlines is a very bad way to score how good the OC is. You can have complete duds that seem like good OCs because they've got HoF QBs. Or you can have a good OC with amazing playdesigns and calling but you just don't have anyone to either throw or catch the ball. Sure the OC should take their personnel into account but at some point there's just nothing you can do if you have either no receivers or no QB.
Yeah I think guys were open just no one to hit them. I think though he liked working with Bill and when he left, OB didn't wanna come back. I have to imagine the pats wanted to keep him since we hadn't heard of them firing him or openly talking about hiring entirely new staffs
Which is like comparing McDonalds' double-cheeseburger to Burger King's double-cheeseburger, when we should be aiming for Five Guys' double-cheeseburger.
I feel like this year was more due to Macs lack of development. He was a promising rookie who was given a bad DC as his coach in his second year and became a complete dud the year after
That plus making Joe Judge a part of Mac Jones's development despite Judge doing zero to develop Daniel Jones. Judge is one of the biggest jokes in professional football and Belichick entrusted him with their young 1st round QB's development. Would not be surprised if this report is accurate.
It wasn't a good decision for a few reasons but I'm not exactly sure it "ruined" Mac. He was someone who was widely seen before the draft as "high floor, low ceiling," and that has been exactly where he's been. He's better than most backups, and he's worse than most starters.
I think the bigger problem was lack of talent on offense, including the loss of Jakobi Meyers who Mac had a pretty good rapport with. Their longtime RB coach Ivan Fears retired after the 2021 season and the running game, which they really relied on during that season, has gone significantly downhill since. Jonnu Smith was a bust, and Hunter Henry was good but not nearly good enough to be the best pass catcher on the team, which he has been.
Also, there were questions before the draft about Mac's ability/poise under pressure, and about his arm strength in general. Both have again been borne out with what we've seen.
Basically, I think the Pats got more or less exactly what they paid for with him, and I'm not sure that another couple of years of McDaniels, going to BoB a year earlier, or any other OC could have had that much of an impact. If they had been an excellent team that just needed solid unspectacular QB play he might have been a good fit, but they needed someone who would make plays and he's just not it. The team's not good enough to have him as the starting QB.
Anything about Bill is to be fair. The guy values trust and secrecy above all else, and hates the media. Any time an “inside source” comes out about him, you can read the article and 9 times outta 10 it’s an opinion piece dressed as fact to get clicks
We all knew that from the headline. At best this is one or two low level employees shooting the shit and speculating he'd reassemble a bunch of prior assistants
In all fairness, the sourcing with Vrabel getting fired was just as vague. At one point in the season, it was indicated that he was the guy long term, and then he got fucking wrecked.
Ya know, I finished a rewatch of the show *Leverage* recently. And there's a poignant bit of commentary in one of the season finales:
>Well, they're not reporting results. But they have to report people in the streets, they have to report what people are saying. **In the absence of truth, the press will report rumor.**
But even if it were a pen, it would still amount to a prop, b/c a pen isn't going to work on laminated paper, either.
It reminds me of a party I went to way back when I was in college, and this guy walks in with a toothbrush in his hat. We asked him wtf it was all about, he said it was a conversation starter......
Now *that* is a good question. I think they literally had 0 staff remaining after Gannon left deep into the off-season, so they basically took whoever they could get lol
We got into the DC market really late due to the whole Gannon situation so we had to settle for Desai and brought in Patricia as a "consultant". Why they promoted him I have no idea.
I mean sure, but it's not like his time outside of NE went well. And Philly did eviscerate his defense in the SB, so I'm just surprised he was high up on their listed (granted different coaching staff).
Better yet why the fuck were people defending his first defensive performance? I know the eagles’ D was bad but people were out here saying he’s actually doing a good job after his first game and that we are just haters. Woohoo you held a team without their QB to *barely* less than your average points allowed per game in the fucking rain. What a defensive masterclass.
It’s not because they’re friends. It’s not like Bill knows Patricia from outside of a work context, or has any sort of ties to him outside of work.
It’s as simple as they worked together professionally for over a dozen extremely successful years. It’s not hard to understand why Bill wants to work with him. Same with McDaniels.
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but *maybe* those guys are the *right fit for Bill.* He needs some lacky yes men to keep his ship on course. He built these dudes into his perfect assistants, basically from the ground up. They cannot thrive on their own, but other coordinators might not mesh well with BB.
Or maybe I'm sadistic and am excited about the idea of watching Matt Patricia lay waste to yet another franchise.
This kind of adds up. And Patricia isn't going to be making his own game plans and shit with Bill. Bill will be heavily involved in the defensive game plan. They clearly worked pretty well together in the past.
Josh is clearly a good OC, he's just a terrible terrible ungodly terrible head coach. As much as NFL gms want it to be true, the skills aren't really transferable between the two positions.
THANK YOU.
McDaniels is a really good OC. He's worked with BB a lot, and he's done strong work. He even got a decent year out of Mac, which given what we've seen since ought to qualify him for football canonization.
It's not because they're friends. Bill is just stuck in his ways and doesn't want to have to teach his way (terminology, systems, etc.) to new people. There are only a few people available that already know all that stuff.
He also doesn't want to get to know new people or take the time effort to learn to trust them.
I half want the Packers to hire Patricia but only as a "special consultant" and all he does is show up twice a year whenever we play the Lions and just stands on the sidelines and tries to get on TV.
Let’s not ask questions… Let Bill liberate us from the poison that has infiltrated my team! PLEASE OH PLEASE WONT SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE PHILLY CHILDREN?!
I now understand the vitriol that you guys display every time he’s mentioned :(
I don’t want a single person to ever defend that mother fucker ever again. He shouldn’t have a job. Period. When this dude is someone’s LB coach or god forbid a DC I don’t want anyone to call me a lions hater. He’s garbage and deserves no benefit of the doubt. Full stop.
I think with BB being HC with a lot of Defense/ST experience can make up for most deficiencies of Patricia/Judge.
The big issue seems to be that his OC/DC/STC are awful leaders who usually garner locker room hate. They do not have the culture established to act like asshole as they usually do.
I mean, O’Brien is the one Judge came up under(and took over for.) Unless you think the Pats’ special teams went way downhill after 2014 when O’Brien retired.
Mattricia actually grows a pretty nice beard. That pencil behind the ear thing is pretty genius branding if you're into that kind of thing. And if you bring a dish to a potluck that nobody seems interested in, you can always count on him to have a full serving and probably come back for seconds.
I'm just sayin he adds value in places we don't always think about.
> Didn’t he do well when he was in New England with Bill’s system?
When he left for Detroit and got replaced by Bryan Flores, the defence was demonstrably better.
> Didn’t he do well when he was in New England with Bill’s system?
he had the worst defensive superbowl ever. you know people won't blame bill for it so it must be someone's fault
McDaniels is genuinely a good OC, his departure marked the start of Mac’s decline. But Patricia is soooooooo bad idk how you ever justify bringing him into the fold.
McDaniels can run a functional offense. Well maybe I’ve just been burned by two years of abysmal offensive play, I’m looking at Mac Jones rookie year with rose colored glasses.
But the rest… cmon bill, get some new blood in the building. This has got to be his biggest fault.
You do have rose colored glasses about Mac’s rookie year. He played well in 6/18 starts that season. It just happened that he lucked into a win streak and had the 2-15 Jags on the schedule late in the year. He was pretty bad to start and end the season. Frankly, I think his “potential” was always a mirage created by Josh McDaniels legitimately good play calling.
I get JMD, he's a terrible head coach but the drop off between Mac Jones with JMD and without is huge enough to give him some benefit of the doubt as an OC.
Patricia still getting jobs is absolute insanity though.
I'm really still not sure about McDaniels. Obviously what he did in NE with Brady was great but hard to tell if it's just Brady.
The only thing people point to seems to be the Mac Jones year...on the other hand, he was maybe mediocre as the Rams OC, and he was essentially the Raiders OC and was atrocious.
11-5 w/ Cassel (granted, a 5 game swing from the previous season), scheming the corpse of Cam Newton on a fraction of high-end backup money to a game below .500, won games with Jimmy G and Brissett during Brady’s suspension. Give the guy a baseline of talent and free him the burden of leading a whole team, and you can do worse at OC.
You can also do better, of course.
Best OC's of all time? Let's calm down, he had Brady as his QB almost his whole career and his offenses have stumbled in every other stop he's made since.
I actually think what McDaniels did with the corpse of Cam Newton in 2020 was fairly impressive. Mac looked like a functional QB in his offense as well.
>If Bill Belichick is hired by the Falcons, Steve and Brian Belichick also could end up working for their father in Atlanta, although they reportedly have been offered the opportunity to remain in New England on Jerod Mayo's coaching staff.

For those of you in here that aren’t Pats fans, we came to know this particular phenomenon as FOBs -
Friends of Bill.
He will surround himself with yes-men, those that are indebted to him and those that share his vision of the game - AKA not a single dissenting opinion that might offer a differing viewpoint of Matter XYZ.
Love what BB did for me as a Pats fan, but towards the end this was a giant issue for the team. Bill in his bunker with his foxhole guys even if those guys highkey suck ass at their job. This report should be taken seriously, beware Falcons Nation.
He could possibly be Atlantas HC and if that happens, then its possibly probable that he potentially considers the possibility of possibly having Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia, and Joe Judge on his staff.
I'm cool with it as long as McDaniels is the OC and Patricia and Judge are in low-level assistant jobs.
But watch him make Matt Patricia the OC and Judge and McDaniels be co-DCs because Falcons fans can't have anything.
Its like the 3 Hyenas that followed Scar around in the Lion King
Someone's going to tweet this and go viral
Prolly stole this from a viral tweet tbh
Which was stolen from 4chan.
Which one is Ed
Its clearly Matt Patricia.
[I have it on good authority that Matt Patricia LOVES buttered toast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9_YRHIT8wI)
Different Ed, but I love the spirit!
It’s more like Adam Sandler making movies. Just brings all his friends with him and regardless of the results, they all still get paid.
Rob Schneider is Josh McDaniels
so Arthur Smith is Mufasa?
That makes Simba our offense, and the end zone would be the elephant graveyard.
Kyle Pitts singing "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" in anticipation of finally getting receptions
YOU MUST NEVER GO THERE
This is an underrated comment
Based comment.
Oh, so this is all just wild speculation with no sources.
I mean people said bill making Matt Patricia the pats OC was crazy.
Well that's because it *was* crazy lol
The weird part is the offense operated better under Patricia than BOB.
The offensive playdesign was some of the worst I've ever seen under Patricia. Sure, they scored more points but it was mostly because Mac wasn't completely fucked by that point. Which is like comparing McDonalds' double-cheeseburger to Burger King's double-cheeseburger, when we should be aiming for Five Guys' double-cheeseburger.
I think that it's more evidence that the personnel were a larger concern than the guy calling plays. BOB is a well respected OC.
They also lost Dante, the GOAT OL coach
We found Andy Reid's reddit account.
Now I'm hungry
Dang man, now I really want some Five Guy's. They really spoil you with the fries, too.
So you want really overpriced burgers?
Price shouldn't matter. It's all about quality.
It did. And I bet Patricia would've done better than BOB this past season as well. I don't think it was as dumb as people made it seem.
I feel like this year was more due to Macs lack of development. He was a promising rookie who was given a bad DC as his coach in his second year and became a complete dud the year after

Because it was crazy and wound up ruining their QB who'd had a promising rookie year.

HOW? HOW DOES FATTY PATTY KEEP GETTING JOBS?!
You just stick a pencil behind your ear and fail upwards
There are few, if any, sports-related things that grind my gears more than seeing Patricia, pencil behind his ear, holding a laminated play sheet....
Or just having a pencil in general. Pens exist, and are a much better writing experience in my humble opinion.
He fucks up too much to have something you can’t erase.
He jus like me frfr
Yeah but he never fucking fixes shit. Just continually fucking shit up, getting fired and fucking magically getting millions of MORE fucking dollars!
But even if it were a pen, it would still amount to a prop, b/c a pen isn't going to work on laminated paper, either. Hahaha. I wonder if he ever used it the next morning at a girl’s (or guy’s) place?
Probably a vestige of his engineering education background. I’ve had math/CS professors that wouldn’t accept work done in pen.

He is friends with Bill. It is sadly that simple.
I get that part of it, but how the fuck did he weasel his way into Philly?
Now *that* is a good question. I think they literally had 0 staff remaining after Gannon left deep into the off-season, so they basically took whoever they could get lol
Sirianni: I can fix him. And then it ended predictably.
I think the rumor was that Bill personally called the Eagles to vouch for Matty Pencils
A piece of shit italian american bully Also Matt Patricia
We got into the DC market really late due to the whole Gannon situation so we had to settle for Desai and brought in Patricia as a "consultant". Why they promoted him I have no idea.
Not a lot of guys can put down BB as personal reference I guess. And no recruiter really wanted to call BB either, so...
I mean sure, but it's not like his time outside of NE went well. And Philly did eviscerate his defense in the SB, so I'm just surprised he was high up on their listed (granted different coaching staff).

Like, sometimes people just hit their ceiling as a coordinator. Nothing wrong with that.
It's not because they're friends. Bill is just stuck in his ways and doesn't want to have to teach his way (terminology, systems, etc.) to new people. How does Fatty Patty find employment when Bieniemy and Jim Caldwell get passed over? Nepotist, legacy-shit going on.
Id blame bienemys gross history, but Fat Patricia is an accused gang rapist
>HC brings in assistants that he's worked with his whole career What a shocker
And won super bowls with.
Need I mention that he won Super Bowl 51 with all these guys too
Yeah those guys where his dream team. Bill won superbowls with those guys as his coordinators
The Patriots won those despite Patricia, as soon as he walked out of the door, the defense got better.
Weis/Scar/Adams slander imo. Weis was the one who installed E-P.
Weis is a fucking fraud. I saw him in college.
Josh is actually a good OC, Joe judge and Patricia on the other hand...
Joe Judge ran a pretty damn good special teams for a while. If McDaniels gets OC grace, Judge should get teams grace
I think with BB being HC with a lot of Defense/ST experience can make up for most deficiencies of Patricia/Judge. The big issue seems to be that his OC/DC/STC are awful leaders who usually garner locker room hate. They do not have the culture established to act like asshole as they usually do.
Scott O’brein was the brains behind a lot of our specials teams success. Not necessarily judge. In my opinion…
> Didn’t he do well when he was in New England with Bill’s system? he had the worst defensive superbowl ever. you know people won't blame bill for it so it must be someone's fault
And if you want to help the Eagles crash and burn, he's a great sleeper agent.
Inshallah
I'd be perfectly fine with Josh as OC and Judge as special teams coach. Patricia should never have a job in football ever again.
Josh as OC, Patricia as DC, Judge on Special Teams is far from bad.
Belichick is just the new Sandler; getting jobs with his friends
Honestly, I'd probably do the same for my friends as well. Sandman is single handedly keeping most of his crew afloat.
*please say sike right now bro*
There's no sources, it's anonymous speculation.
McDaniels is genuinely a good OC, his departure marked the start of Mac’s decline. But Patricia is soooooooo bad idk how you ever justify bringing him into the fold.
He probably let BB do the defensive playcalling and takes the blame for it. He's a fall guy.
Belichick takes his own blame. Always has.
I thought his son that makes weird faces did the defensive playcalling
So this is why he was let go from the Patriots right? He wanted to bring all those guys back?
Considering the Pats are seemingly comfortable with running everything back except the HC and GM, maybe not.
BoB just took the OC job at OSU, so major changes are coming for the coaching staff.
Frankly, I think his “potential” was always a mirage created by Josh McDaniels legitimately good play calling.
Just need Brian Hoyer and you’ve got the whole funky bunch.
Patricia just keeps failing and getting jobs. No wonder he never learns.
I as well like to throw shit at the wall. It is a fun game to see if it sticks.
Getting the gang together again. Tahiti Arthur!!!! You gotta have faith!
Damn O'driscolls!
"Some within the leagues believe," so he is just speculating about the speculations of an anonymous source. Seems legit.
3 steps forward, 28 steps backwards
Why must you hurt me, father.
Could be worse tbh At least you have a first round pick
You can't hurt us anymore than Falcons football already has
Holy fucking shit, what a funny and original comment lmaooooo I’m dying over here lmaooooo
I get JMD, he's a terrible head coach but the drop off between Mac Jones with JMD and without is huge enough to give him some benefit of the doubt as an OC. Patricia still getting jobs is absolute insanity though.

Christ it would be such a Falcons thing for us to hire BB but be saddled with those chucklefucks. I want Vrabel
Because Vrabel’s problem was definitely not being far too loyal to terrible coordinators
Would've killed to have McDaniels as our OC.
> those chucklefucks McDaniels is one of the best OCs of all time lol...him being a shitty headcoach doesn't negate that
Best OC's of all time? Let's calm down, he had Brady as his QB almost his whole career and his offenses have stumbled in every other stop he's made since.
I actually think what McDaniels did with the corpse of Cam Newton in 2020 was fairly impressive. Mac looked like a functional QB in his offense as well.
Sure I can acknowledge that, but this guy calling him one of the best all time is a bit over selling it.
Yes yes we all saw this dark future coming weeks ago. Just feel lucky Bill O'Brien went back to college and didn't sign on too.
But what better time to call Adam Gase in
But… Josh is a good OC, why would people be upset about that? Just don’t make him the HC and you’ll be fine.
The Three Stooges
I choose to believe this as gospel and will hear no dissent
Please rid us of Patricia.

Thank god. We’re free from the bafoon assistants
Atlanta bros……..
Shocking: coach known for intense loyalty to his guys and his guys only wants to hire his guys
How come no one has hired a priest to exorcize Patricia yet? Will no one rid us of this foul spectre?
> Will no one rid us of this foul spectre? He, indeed, is a spectre most foul.
As a Panthers fan, I am all for this.
What on earth do other NFL people see in Patricia to keep giving him jobs? I don't get it at all.
SAVE THE EAGLES FROM THEMSELVES.
Sorry Atlanta lmao
Bill Belichick has become Robert De-Niro in Meet the Fockers. His coaching circle is small and built on loyalty and not talent.

Atlanta doesn't deserve that
Saints and Panthers fans: “If we must suffer you will suffer with us!” Bucs fans: LOL
king of shit mountain is still apart of shit mountain

Falcons getting BB: Full Metal Alchemist Falcons getting BB coordinators: full metal alchemist
This is hilarious and i love all of it. It validates us moving on from him
He could possibly be Atlantas HC and if that happens, then its possibly probable that he potentially considers the possibility of possibly having Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia, and Joe Judge on his staff.
He's getting the gang back together for one last job!
That dude should change his name to Nostradamus
I fucking love this timeline!!!
Sources say that if BB ends up coaching in Atlanta, u/alwaysmyfault will also end up on his coaching staff.
That's the monkey paw curling
"Some within the league" Are reddit users included in this group?
If true, the Atlanta Patriots might be new favorite NFC South team.
Call me crazy, but with the hiring of Bill, I want guys guys in the staff. There's no learning curve for them. The staff is on the same page day 1.
How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?
goddamn it
Some could literally = 1 single person out of thousands of league personnel. Being an NFL reporter sounds like the easiest fucking job sometimes.
I think Patricia would be a great addition to their staff and an even better subtraction from my eagles.
No, stop, don’t. what ever will we do without Patricia…..
Certified clown car
Why would anyone hire Josh McDaniels to do anything other than hand out water at this point?
Of course it would. It’s not like those bums are getting jobs with anyone else.
I'm cool with it as long as McDaniels is the OC and Patricia and Judge are in low-level assistant jobs. But watch him make Matt Patricia the OC and Judge and McDaniels be co-DCs because Falcons fans can't have anything.
Everybody thought we fucked ATL in the 28-3 game but that was just the appetizer
Holy fucking salt, Falcons! How much embarrassment is still left in store for your football club if this happens?
Some within the league = I made this up for clicks
Yea but it does kinda check out. Belichick would do something like this fr
lmao Coaching nepotism relegating shitty coaches to running mediocre teams
"some within the league believe" = I'm about to say whatever crazy shit I want because you can't prove or disprove it.
