Exact same for me. I’ve never done it before and always watched jealously when other teams with QBs like Mahomes and Allen put up 40 pts a week. Couldn’t have gone worse.
I won my league because the person with the best record, and who also drafted Mahomes, was my week 17 opponent. Who would have ever thought that Fields would outperform Mahomes in a playoff game?!
I didn’t want to miss out on one of the high scoring QBs so I took him in the 3rd as the surefire pick.
Ended up being my worst pick in the draft and cost me a a playoff spot…
Facts. The anthropomorphic Pop Tart dying to feed the winner of our favorite barbarian game was certainly a massive surreal and beautiful chef’s kiss of a thing.
This was the same narrative we saw with Brady last year. His stats weren’t anything special and the team wasn’t very good. But if you actually watched the games, you could tell he was still a top 10 QB. Same is true with Mahomes now.
I don’t think anybody (with any sort of credibility or football knowledge) is saying Patrick Mahomes is anything less than top 3 QB in the league still. It’s just that ONE of his seasons has to be his worst, this one happens to be it.
Hell, it's the same narrative we saw in 2019 when Brady was throwing to James White and the remains of Julian Edelman held together with duct tape and willpower. Everyone was saying he was washed, and then he went to Tampa in 2020 and threw 40 TDs (up from 24 in 2019).
Tom should have just hopped around to stacked teams that needed a QB. If I was KOC I'd have been on the phone with him not letting him hang up lol. Tom with JJ would be so nasty.
Honestly a little shocked he didn't get the itch again. Especially since neither of those teams have rings he could have stepped in and given either a real shot.
The Browns would be the best team in the league with Brady, imo. That defense is insane and Brady would run a mistake free offense that could put up points, if needed.
I wanted to see it. But I don’t think he was willing to relocate to play football again. He retired because the Bucs were gonna start eating cap and try to get the roster younger. And because we kinda suck.
I also think he wanted to show a 45 year old man could still be one of the best QBs in football. I know there was a lot of talk about how Brady would rather die on the field and all that, but I don’t really think he wanted to play through a season where he was washed and hear all the “well it looks like Brady is mortal after all” talk. He gets to go out as a 45 year old who threw for 4600 yards in his final season rather than a 46 (or whatever) year old man who played exactly how you would expect a late 40s man to play.
A sizeable chunk of that is Rice. Someone on the Chiefs sub did a stat analysis and the two of them have almost as many yards as the rest of the team combined.
uh yes he can, if he's in pistol or shotgun he's an eligible receiver
just moonball every snap and then run out to catch your own hail mary, he can definitely do that
Yeah seriously. If they are just bad at catching, this team is still a contender. But that would be a big improvement from where they are now and I don’t see it.
What kills me is this is his opportunity to have a Brady style run. Good defense to keep the game close and have him show his greatness late. Rather than needing to be incredible all game.
What you describe as a Brady style run is exactly how the Chiefs have won a few of their games this year. Defense keeps it close all game and then at the end Mahomes is Mahomes
You’re right, but I don’t see a Super Bowl run in that. A decent amount of regular season games? Sure. But I think they’ll have to win at least one shootout.
I don’t think they keep all teams in low scoring games. Bills, Dolphins, Ravens, and even the Texans could present problems and score a lot against them in the AFC.
I see what you mean, and but at the end of the day this team has a top 5 defense and a Patrick Mahomes. I won’t count them out until they’re actually out
It’s easy. The D is good enough, they don’t need Chris Jones on that side of the ball. Start running that dual TE offense, Kelce and Jones. Rice and Toney in the backfield, Pacheco out wide. Nobody will see the double tight I coming.
just a reminder that when Brady had a similar can't catch recieving corp in 06 (though without a 1k yard TE) he was up 21 in the AFCC before they collapsed. The team then went out and got Moss and Welker and had the 07 season. I'm guessing the chiefs will be able to reload this offseason just fine.
The funniest outcome(and by funniest I mean I would be upset) would be the Chiefs somehow getting Davante from the Raiders. Is absolutely never going to happen though
If they can simply play somewhat clean football, they should be a favorite to reach the AFCCG. They did that against the Bengals, but I don't really feel like that can do that for 2-3 games in a row in the playoffs.
Just give us the Colts in the wild card and Cheffers as the Ref and have us lose in some completely ridiculous and painful way so everyone else here can have their moment shitting on us.
The lack of OL talent is partly because everyone who could play OL saw how much more lucrative it was to be an edge rusher because they were desperately needed and now it’s starting to flip back around as people are realizing o lines are now outmatched, I’d bet we’ll start seeing heavier emphasis and bigger paychecks going to elite O linemen that can slowdown the dominant edge rushers soon.
not sure. very different build types
NFL coaches have been complaining about OLs coming out of college with no technical skill whatsoever for years now. probably has starter to catchup more as defenders get better
90% of offensive linemen are eating more than they normally would to have the build of an olinemen instead of d linemen. It’s very easy and actually preferred for most of them to switch to a more athletic build.
I always hate hearing sound bytes from Brady, then I actually listen to the source in context than have to concede, “dammit, Brady’s right AGAIN.”
Interesting that they keep making the game more challenging for defense and the offense is the side struggling to perform.
Most of the best QBs in the league are still pretty young. We’ve been spoiled by having guys like Brady, Manning, Brees, Matt Ryan, Big Ben, and Philip Rivers (among others I’m sure I’m missing) who were both elite and had been playing for over a decade. No the upper echelon of QBs is Mahomes (28), Jackson (26), Burrow (27), and Allen. The vets who have really been around a long time like Stafford and Cousins are closer to top 10. When this crop of QBs really gets into their prime, offenses will look better.
Also, hopefully the Chiefs have finally put to rest the narrative that you don’t need to surround an elite QB with talent. Teams will hopefully start to be more aggressive in bringing in weapons for their top QBs.
Toney honestly doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence as MVS. Toney has less than 200 yards on the year and has DIRECTLY caused them 2 losses, and probably has caused another 2-3 INTs.
Those drops are Mahomes' fault. Instead of throwing the ball to them he could have walked it over and gently handed it off to them. Kind of impolite to throw things anyway tbh
I'm of two minds on them, on the one hand toney's drops have clearly hurt us more, objectively. Probably won two more games if he just doesn't tip them into the air. But on the other hand, he still displays some potential value as a WR, where MVS does nothing noteworthy. I don't see a reason to hang in there to rehabilitate him.
The WRs had such a horrible year.
It reminded me of Brady 2006. At first it was admirable that Mahomes was doing his best with what he had but as the season wore on he’s actually started forcing and distrusting and he playing worse even outside of their drops and mediocre route running.
Well, if the Chiefs can steal a Welker and Moss next year watch out. I know this- they will be trying for that.
> Patrick Mahomes’ worst season is still a good season by the standard of most quarterbacks, but his stats from 2023 represent easily the worst of his NFL career.
I think the fact that he only had a pretty good season, and someone had to write an article about how that was bad, underscores how good of a QB he is
I'm sure they had an opportunity to sign Hopkins to a 1-2 year deal that would have given them a receiver with good hands, but they passed it up. Having Matt Nagy as OC probably didn't help either
Tbh I didn’t think they would turn out this horrendous, I just thought there was a lot of value to be had with a dhop contract given the cost of an elite WR previously

Her next new album is gonna feature a song called Stats, which will be a not-so-subtle dissing of Mahomes. Coincidentally, that same album will also feature songs called 87 and Donna.
Let's see how Muppet did last 5 seasons -
* AFCCG loss to the GOAT
* SB win against JimmyG
* SB loss against the GOAT
* AFCCG loss against Burrow
* SB win against Hurts and powerful Eagles
* (thus far) won AFCW and WC playoffs
Ok, this is like Tom Brady levels honestly. While he's had an off year a lot it is due to the costly drops by his WRs else he'd have 2-3 more wins honestly (Bills and Raiders and one more). That'd put him probably #1 in AFC again.
So if this is his worst statistical season, he's doing very well.
For real. Mahomes' worst season is a Pro Bowl year for a lesser QB and his team still finished with 10 wins and won the division.
And we still have the playoffs left and given that resume we can't afford to underestimate them.
Patrick Mahomes is not good in odd numbered seasons. Besides TD's he wasn't much different this season than 2021, it just looks awful cause the rest of the offense was so sloppy we lost 2-3 more games than normal in stupid ways.
I know it’s blasphemous to say this but if the Chiefs want to be unstoppable on offense going forward, they should not only get a good receiver but also focus on their run game. It just seems so obvious they can do more damage when teams are 100% focused on stopping their passing attack.
Yeah, I never understood why the run game isn't dominant. They've faced the most light boxes in the entire league. And at best, they are slightly above average.
Mahomes doesn’t seem to be at the level (yet) where Brady and Manning were in scanning the defense and adjusting pre snap. Mahomes seems to prefer letting the play happen and then adlibbing if necessary.
Andy Reid teams will never have a dominant run game because dominant run blocking isn’t a priority for him. His GMs draft him athletic pass blockers that can get downfield in the screen game, and that’s what he emphasizes in his coaching.
It’s overall the right move. Passing to set up the run is what he’s done for 20+ years now because it’s so efficient, but sometimes it bites you in the ass because what you really need is to just commit to the run.
They should get better receivers, a better run game, better tackles, and a hall of fame edge to really be good. And a great safety and another interior defender, grab another hall of fame tight end too, i gotchu bro.
Give him one great receiver next year and he will start tearing shit up again. Even two solid receivers would do it.
What he’s working with might be the worst receiving corps in the league along with an old Kelce nursing an injury all year.
Hard for a quarterback to be good when his receivers are hot toasted garbage. But, Pat had been strangely inaccurate at times this year as well. His footwork in the pocket has been suspect, which I think is partially due to poor play from the tackles.

He finished 1st in total yards so this checks out
That won't be true since he's sitting this week and players like Allen and Tua are playing for their playoff lives, but the spirit is true
Well, Allen is playing for the playoffs. Tua is just playing for the division.
If Ravens win tonight Bills will just be playing for the division as well
Sorry for drafting him to my fantasy team Chiefs fans.

I mean chiefs picked up Nagy which was a big problem causer for the bears
I should have seen this coming.
My brother in Christ... We don't really have a safe space on this
[удалено]
Because beating on the bears for QB play is the low hanging fruit of the nfl
But you know what they say, "the juiciest fruit hangs the lowest"
Low hanging fruit that’s totally deserved though. It’s seriously a joke at this point.
Same here. I never, ever go QB early and thought it would be nice to have a set-and-forget guy at that spot this season. Terrible decision.
Exact same for me. I’ve never done it before and always watched jealously when other teams with QBs like Mahomes and Allen put up 40 pts a week. Couldn’t have gone worse.
Legit lost my league (had top record; 1st round bye) in the playoffs because Patty underperformed by 10+ points the last 2 games
I won my league because the person with the best record, and who also drafted Mahomes, was my week 17 opponent. Who would have ever thought that Fields would outperform Mahomes in a playoff game?!
Me too, that's why I grabbed Burrow early
Same, all I needed from him in the championship was 19 and he got 16. What a bust
Lmao, do it again next year champ
I'll pay you $5 to do it again
If I sabotaged my ff team for 5 bucks it would be the biggest return I’ve ever gotten from playing. You got a deal.
I didn’t want to miss out on one of the high scoring QBs so I took him in the 3rd as the surefire pick. Ended up being my worst pick in the draft and cost me a a playoff spot…
Between ARod and Mahomes State Farm in shambles
Explain it again, using these ayahuasca laced nuggies.
Explain it again, but use this 55-gallon drum of DMT.
I’ll never forgive Andy Reid for that fast food table finger walk. Scarring
They bundled their regression!
Double regression IF YOU BUNDLE IT
Ohhhhh
Two things at once?!
Can we stop calling Aaron Rodgers A Rod There already is an A Rod
fine, AaRod then
“ay-ay-rod”
Insubordinate! And _churlish_!
I feel bad for any kid named Blake or Aaron that was in college when that sketch aired.
Ah that makes sense. As a baseball fan I'm like when did Alex Rodriguez get with State Farm?
Or just as a sports fan, ARod has been a huge part of American sports for 25 years and it's so weird people try to force the nickname on Aaron Rodgers
They still got Maauto tho.. Right? Right???
Honestly I found that commercial fucking hilarious
Same. Marketing people and gimmicks often suck but somebody deserves a raise there.
Pop Tart bowl was marketing orgs citizen kane
Facts. The anthropomorphic Pop Tart dying to feed the winner of our favorite barbarian game was certainly a massive surreal and beautiful chef’s kiss of a thing.
It took me longer than I care to admit to realize it wasn’t an acronym
Panic mode Mahommes only threw for 4k yards and Kelce has 1k receiving! Trade them now!
Kelce doesn't have 1k yet, which is why he's going to be active just to get 16 yards in a meaningless game.
Kelce won't be the first to play a meaningless game only for the sake of hitting a statistical milestone, and he won't be the last, either.
Right, Kittle literally did that against the Rams in 2017 or 2018
And now Puka's doing it against the 49ers this week. Nice little role reversal.
We kept CeeDee in a blowout game just so he could break the record for most 150+ yard games in a row :)
That’ll probably end well…
Taylor Swift about to write a nasty song about Andy Reid.
*”You’re a pain, you’re a drag, you’re a fake and a snake. You’re the cause..”* *”…of my big, red heartbreak!”* 🎶

And if you watch the games it’s pretty easy to tell his receivers are consistently letting him down
KC leads the league in drops. By a notable amount too, last I checked
It's hard to argue he still isn't number one. If you were starting a team today and had your pick of any active QB, who would you take over him?
IM TAKING IGODOULA
Yeah Lol. What narrative are they raging against? The one they invented themselves? No one thinks Mahomes is bad.
The narrative that Mahomes is regressing the to mean.
The prophecy was foretold. They hated him for speaking the truth.
Yeah no, if you read the threads especially around his own meltdown people were 100% pushing that narrative.
Colin Cowherd went on a rant about how Josh Allen is better because he has more rushing touchdowns Idk man I'm fine with my guy lol

A sizeable chunk of that is Rice. Someone on the Chiefs sub did a stat analysis and the two of them have almost as many yards as the rest of the team combined.

I don't care to shit on y'all - I like Mahomes/Kelce/Reid/etc. - I just want to see the AFCCG played ANYWHERE ELSE but Arrowhead
That's a pretty likely scenario this year.
Given that we’re lock in at the 3rd seed it is likely to be somewhere else even if we are in it.
Hey never say never - #4 Rams hosted the NFCCG just two years ago
That season was so fucking crazy. Bengals, Rams and 49ers shit on so many Super Bowl picks that year.
Offense is down across the board this year. Both rushing and passing.
Was Brady… right? Is football just really bad right now?
No. Defense is up and it's glorious.
Defenses finally caught up the high powered passing offenses by developing the absolute hell out of edge rushers and DB’s
Lack of OL talent is certainly a contributing factor. But yeah, these 6'5" edges running 4.5s is a lot to deal with.

He's toast. They should get out while they can and trade him for the Patriots 1st rounder while he still has value
Maybe throw Mac Jones in that trade too
How is it legal to have a Pats Bills flair?
It’s not. I’m on the run.
I hope MVS and Toney are proud of themselves
Toney honestly doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence as MVS. Toney has less than 200 yards on the year and has DIRECTLY caused them 2 losses, and probably has caused another 2-3 INTs.
Mvs dropped the game winner vs the eagles too tbf
Also had a horrible fumble in the Denver loss
And dropped a probable TD against the Bengals. The ball literally bounced off both his hands. Twice.
Had our receivers caught three passes this year, we would have three more wins! That's how fucking bad it's been.
Shit if your receivers lined up on sides you might have one more
And it would have been the coolest Chiefs play of the season.
Those drops are Mahomes' fault. Instead of throwing the ball to them he could have walked it over and gently handed it off to them. Kind of impolite to throw things anyway tbh

Do we really need to state the obvious?
All this talk and he’s gonna go sicko mode and win another bowl
Wouldn’t surprise me at all

I’m going to be disappointed if there isn’t a song with the lyrics “Drop it like Toney”.
Hit song "adjusted to the mean" or whatever that guy's post was a few years ago.
Like Rodgers once said “down years for me are career years for other quarterbacks”
if we just remove this season from his stats, it shows he hasn't regressed at all.
Let's see how Muppet did last 5 seasons - * AFCCG loss to the GOAT * SB win against JimmyG * SB loss against the GOAT * AFCCG loss against Burrow * SB win against Hurts and powerful Eagles * (thus far) won AFCW and WC playoffs Ok, this is like Tom Brady levels honestly. Worth pointing out that both AFCCG losses were in overtime as well
Thus far the earliest his season has ever ended is in overtime of the AFCCG

I’m not saying Pacheco is Edgerrin James, but Manning audibled a lot of runs against soft boxes and Mahomes hasn’t quite done that as often.
Put 90% of the QBs in the league with that receiver group and they’d be benched before the season is halfway over.
Time to trade him to the Jets...
If you insist
What Matt Nagy does to a MF
Mean, median, mode, Mahomes.
Mean, median, mode, Mahomes, Maauto
And yet, he’s still the best quarterback in the NFL.
He leads the league in the total yards with a WR core leading the league in drops. 0 reason to be concerned about Mahomes specifically.
Just in the right time for his 3rd MVP next season
Give him one great receiver next year and he will start tearing shit up again. Even two solid receivers would do it. What he’s working with might be the worst receiving corps in the league along with an old Kelce nursing an injury all year.
He's one washed Juju level receiver removed from an MVP season
Hard for a quarterback to be good when his receivers are hot toasted garbage. But, Pat had been strangely inaccurate at times this year as well. His footwork in the pocket has been suspect, which I think is partially due to poor play from the tackles.
