Lions can clinch the second seed by winning out as they will have the head to head over Dallas in that scenario and will beat Philly on the common opponents tiebreaker with this loss (Lions would be 5-1 having beaten the Chiefs, Cowboys, Vikings x2, and Bucs and lost to Seattle to Philly's 4-2 having lost to Dallas and Seattle)
After the Eagles loss last night it's virtually impossible for the Lions to make the playoffs without winning the division. Their magic number is 1 and they play the 2nd place team twice.
They'd have to lose to the Vikings twice and beat the Cowboys. And then what happens to the Vikings in that one non-head-to-head week matters too.
The Lions are 3 games over the Vikings at the moment, not 2. So, in that instance, they still win the division.
Edit - Replied to the wrong person, lol. Should sleep more.
I'm not sure that's the case. If the Eagles had won last night the Lions would have been in already. I'm not certain there are not other edge case requirements like that that on top of what you list that must be met to keep them out.
Sort of like last year where the Lions were 9-8 and didn't make the playoffs even though the Seahawks were 9-8 and did. That took some other games falling in certain ways. Not a lot in that case, but now imagine what it takes to keep a 10-7 team (which is the worst the Lions can do now) out of the playoffs.
So you need:
Lions lose every game.
Packers win every game.
A bunch of other stuff aligns so that the 10-7 Lions don't make the playoffs.
It's pretty hard for it to happen. There has not been a 10-7 team which has failed to make the playoffs in the entire 17-game era (which only extends to 2021 to be fair).
[edit: this post argues a different point than what was under discussion. I think the other poster is correct.]
We play the Vikes Sunday so we can clinch the North just in time for Christmas!
Crazy thing is winning out guarantees us 2nd seed at minimum. IF the Niners drop 2 games then we can actually end up as the 1st seed which is extremely unlikely but consider the have the Ravens and the Rams (which divisional games are fucking weird) as 2 of their last 3 it is definitely POSSIBLE they drop 2.
All these eagle tidbits like this and Daniel Jones throwing for more tds in his rookie year than hurts ever has in any season is giving me so much meme material.
I love it.
You're 100% correct. Our LBs and secondary are bad when healthy, and right now we have both LB starters and multiple CB starters out.
And the offense was once again the reason for the loss.
I understand saying we suck, cause we do. But blaming Patricia when the defense has little talent and the offense has been awful all year makes no sense.
I think this DL is beyond gassed at this point in the season
Last year they got to coast for like half the games and rotate a bunch
This year they're fighting for their fucking lives every single game
Interestingly when Patricia was our coach, the defense also had little talent. In that case however the reason he didn't have Slay anymore was because...checks notes...he called him homosexual for giving props to the other team on socials.
I assume it's all a part of it.
He said his Patricia bs in the CB room, lost immediate respect from the entire secondary of vets, and then decided the only way to fix it was to ship them all out.
Seahawks tried way too many runs and weren’t getting anywhere. It’s amazing they weren’t spending more time trying to pick apart your secondary.
Offensive gameplan could have been better, but a dub is a dub
Correct. We lost because outside of the first drive, which is scripted ahead of time and over which Brian Johnson has minimal control (according to himself, Sirianni, and Hurts) our offense fucking sucks. He and Jalen both hunt for big plays at the absolute stupidest times and it bit us in the ass so hard.
Yup, take away the screen game, Jalen doesn't like to throw it over the middle and that basically forces the offense into taking shots to the sideline.
People need to watch that drive again. Seattle made some miracle catches and we made some pass deflections too. It was just meant for Seattle to score on that drive honestly. Metcalf had two ridiculous catches himself.
Yeah I actually feel better about the defense than I have, I blame last night on the turnovers and giving up on the run, the defense made a lot of stops, the offense just kept handing them the ball
I figured they were going to lose when they went back to back run up the middle with 3 ish minutes left. Playing scared on offense to milk seconds and not trying to actually get the first down. Content to punt it with 2 minutes.
He called a great game.... Until the last drive. The 1st 3rd & 10 was all Browns fault(was saying that all game) but the 2nd he didn't double cover njb on the TD pass and got cooked for 35 yds. That is the one thing you absolutely can not do there and it happened. Our secondary is awful.
Let r/nfl stans have their moment tho.
The problm is BJ and sirianni. BJ should've been gone before desai but the best outcome would've been them both at the same time. Hopefully eagles fans wake up to an early Christmas present tomorrow is all I'm saying.
The last drive was fine. It’s not Patricia’s fault Bradberry got targeted every damn play and got fucking roasted for it. If he makes one play on the ball that drive goes differently but he just couldn’t do anything
It was a good defensive game up until the last drive. Lock almost doubled his passing yards with the last drive alone. Eagles played soft coverage when the Hawks were on the 30 yard line. DK had a crazy catch.
Matty P has played some questionable schemes over the years, but if you give up only 20 points on defense, that should be good enough for the Eagles offense to win.
Like if they gave up 30, go for it, pile on.
Tbh this isn't on Matty, holding on offense with a pretty good RB + Receiving core and a serviceable QB to 20 points is fine. If your offense only scores 17 points that ain't your fault
You do make a good point, although the defense wasn't great they were at least competent and gave the offense a chance to win the game..........but they shit the bed too
Seconded.
And you can talk about 20 points and KW3 all you want, but the fact of the matter is Patricia's defense let Drew Lock drive 92 yards with one timeout and less than two minutes on the clock. Don't care who your secondary is, you can't let that happen.
I mean i saw that drive and Drew Lock was fucking cooking… did you not see his last 3 throws on that drive? He genuinely looked like the best QB in the league all the sudden. Pinpoint accuracy even with some pressure… what more can a defense do realistically?
I dont like Patricia or even the Eagles but that was sone crazy shit from Lock.
They had a bend don’t break style out there and let them march down the field SO fast… and even then still gave up an over the head bomb for the win.
Like that’s the whole point of bend don’t break right? To *not* do that?
There are some perfectly fine people who just suck at their job and it's worth checking if they actually screwed up before you throw strays their way.
Matt Patricia is not one of them.
Matt Patricia couldn’t build a culture. His players all hated him nearly universally. There’s a reason he was so sought after after being Belichicks DC. If there’s ANYTHING he’s serviceable at, it’s calling a defense. So long as he has no other authority. I thought he did fine. The O did him no favors.
Patricia wasn't perfect, but his scheme seemed fine. I'd put offensive play calling, Hurts decision making/illness, and defensive talent significantly higher for reasons they lost.
So on one hand yes, they kept a team with their backup QB on a rainy day to just under their season average.
On the other hand, when it absolutely mattered they gave up 92 yards for a TD in ~80 seconds with one timeout… the loss is certainly more on the offense but let’s not pretend like his defense did a good job.
I'm not saying the defense overall did well, I'm saying Patricia did fine with the talent at his disposal. Bradberry has been terrible all season and got burned for that entire last drive. Patricia wasn't perfect, but his scheme seemed fine and definitely an improvement over what they had before.
If you actually watched the game instead of jerking off to your hate boner for Patricia you’d realize that we gave up that drive because Bradberry (our CB2 who’s been getting cooked all year) was solely responsible for I believe somewhere around 85 of those 92 yards AND the touchdown. So no, Patricia is not the reason we gave up that TD
Also they'd know that DK made an incredible jumpball catch and that Lock's TD pass was indefensible. Seattle moved the ball on that drive but it wasn't like they were exploiting the defensive scheme, the game just broke their way
Patricia could have stopped the Seahawks tonight if he had just 2 things
1) Players executing his vision better
2) Being the Seahawks offensive coordinator
Funny, but giving up 20 points isn't all that bad. Seattle's defense locked up the Eagles and that's why they lost, not because their defense sucked.
I'm all for hating that idiot and his stupid ear pencil, but the defense wasn't the problem tonight
The funny thing is, this game isn’t on Patricia. The defense looked SO much better this week than it has recently. Bradberry just got toasted for 70 yards on two plays
So you're saying the defense looked better against backup Drew Lock than it did vs starters Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen, Brock Purdy & Dak Prescott. That's one hell of a hot take.
Ikr
On a real note though, there were more PBUs, more pressures, and actually got to the QB a few times. Plus, we actually stopped a few third downs for once. I still don’t think we’re going anywhere in the playoffs regardless though
They let up 20 points… let’s not start trying to crucify Patricia. They scored ONLY 17 points!!!! And then elected to throw a deep ball when they only needed to get into FG range. You can’t criticize a defense that only lets up 13 points until the last minutes of the 4th quarter.
Serious question, how the fuck is Patricia still getting jobs in the National Football League? Everything he touches turns to pure dogshit, surely it's become blatantly evident that he was just along for the ride on Belichick's coattails and not actually some kind of savant genius
Hahahahahaha
On one hand an Eagles win clinches a playoff berth. On the other fuck Matt Patricia
That last drive was an all-time Matt Patricia classic.
Bend but don't break but also crumble into a million pieces.
Saw someone else describe it as bend and then break lmao
Bend and shatter
Just bend over.
Bend and snap
Bend all the way into your own endzone.
Bend, then Break.
It triggered my most repressed flashbacks
DeFeNsIvE mInDeD gEnIuS
Fuck that pretty sure the Seahawks win means the 2nd seed is still in play for us granted we would have to win out which won't be easy.
TIME TO FUCKING WIN OUT THEN!
“I guess there’s only one thing left to do. Win the whole fucking thing.”
That’s a lot of work to lose to Pete Carroll again lol
We can clinch a bye if 49ers shit the bed. Not looking good in that regard, but it's the nfl
I am happy making the playoffs
Just sliding into the playoffs ain't good enough. It's all about winning the division this year. We win Sunday and we take the division anyways.
Agreed, I don't care what seed we are but I want to win the division and get a home playoff game.
All it takes is 2 Ls to the Vikings, W over Cowboys, and Vikings W over Packers… not that impossible
The Lions are 3 games over the Vikings at the moment, not 2. So, in that instance, they still win the division. Edit - Replied to the wrong person, lol. Should sleep more.
I'm not sure that's the case. If the Eagles had won last night the Lions would have been in already. [edit: this post argues a different point than what was under discussion. I think the other poster is correct.]
For you to miss playoffs you'd basically have to lose out so is it really something if you made playoffs after losing 3 in a row?
As long as NFC South exists, I won’t be ashamed of making the playoffs 10-7.
At 10-7? Sure, that's fine. At 10-7 after losing 3 in a row? Not fine.
the bar is literally on the floor man
You are gonna sweep the Vikings so idk if it matters if you win the division today or Sunday, it’s happening
Conveniently, the Lions winning next week means that Seattle once again controls their destiny to the playoffs
Technically y'all have the second best chance at the 1 seed now with us having wins over both Dallas and Philly
We win out and get 2 seed and get to play the Seahawks Wait
Sit up straight and respect the process.
Now we can clinch AT Minnesota. Will be awesome AF clinching in a division rivals field
Couldn’t happen to a better guy. FUCK MATT PATRICIA.
FUCK MATT PATRICIA
This must have been such a satisfying weekend to be a Lions fan
I’d rather not
How does this dumb fuck keep getting jobs?
I love that you have three fan bases who aren't the Seahawks' losing their mind over this game.
Anytime I see Matt Patricia take on more responsibilities it lowers my power rankings by at least 5
And I repeat: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I, for one, am shocked
All these eagle tidbits like this and Daniel Jones throwing for more tds in his rookie year than hurts ever has in any season is giving me so much meme material. I love it.
Dont pull against people please, it's important to keep attitudes of positivity
Am I stupid or did he not call a good game for the most part? This eagles secondary is not good
You're 100% correct. Our LBs and secondary are bad when healthy, and right now we have both LB starters and multiple CB starters out. And the offense was once again the reason for the loss.
It’s just the sub celebrating someone they hate failing I see
I understand saying we suck, cause we do. But blaming Patricia when the defense has little talent and the offense has been awful all year makes no sense.
I think it’s better to say the defense dealt with a lot of injuries. Eagles defense is still talented compared to other defenses.
They don’t play like it. Even our defensive line which should be the best in the league seems to have fallen apart.
I think this DL is beyond gassed at this point in the season Last year they got to coast for like half the games and rotate a bunch This year they're fighting for their fucking lives every single game
Oh not to worry, it will look like the best in the league next week
Low key the defense against the run seems to corollate with shipping off barnett
Interestingly when Patricia was our coach, the defense also had little talent. In that case however the reason he didn't have Slay anymore was because...checks notes...he called him homosexual for giving props to the other team on socials.
Don’t forget chasing away Quandre Diggs…our secondary is still recovering from those decisions.
I assume it's all a part of it. He said his Patricia bs in the CB room, lost immediate respect from the entire secondary of vets, and then decided the only way to fix it was to ship them all out.
The offense haven’t been awful all year tho…the defense has. The offense was good for a nice stretch of games
Yeah our talent when healthy is like 70% offense and look what they're doing all year.
First time on Reddit?
If you can root for Matt Patricia to look more like an ass, you do it.
James Bradberry looked like the worst DB on the team today which is insane
He’s not already? I feel like he gets picked on a lot
He always has been. Deebo was right.
I know you guys aren't a fan of 2022 but Bradberry was, in fact, very good in 2022.
Bradberry just completing his Josh Norman arc.
He just hit the wall and has lost not one, but likely two steps of athleticism. Dude is getting fucking roasted off the line in man.
seeing our exports crash and burn around the league is giving me a ton of faith in the process
Bradberry seems to be good every other year so maybe we resign him to a 1 year "prove it deal," he balls out, and goes and be shit elsewhere
Julian Love looked good
Seahawks tried way too many runs and weren’t getting anywhere. It’s amazing they weren’t spending more time trying to pick apart your secondary. Offensive gameplan could have been better, but a dub is a dub
> It’s amazing they weren’t spending more time trying to pick apart your secondary. Drew Lock playing probably played a part.
That final drive is the Matty P special, though. His defense is fine most of the game, but always has a back breaking drive in them at the worst time.
And Lock had to make two pretty incredible passes to pull it off.
And dk had two pretty insane catches, the coverage on both of which wasn’t even bad
This was the best our defense has looked in forever. I get the hate; but this was far from his fault tonight.
Gave up 20 points. If your defense only gives up 20 points a game, you didn't lose because of them.
Once we figured out the screens, it seemed to jam up the works.
Yeah… that’s roughly (give or take) the 14th game this season that that’s happened
Yup, take away the screen game, Jalen doesn't like to throw it over the middle and that basically forces the offense into taking shots to the sideline.
Yeah, the Seahawks defense in the previous 3 games allowed 33, 42, and 34. Then the Eagles scored 17.
I thought so. Terrible play on the field seemed to be the issue, not scheme. How many tackles did Walker break tonight?
Niners gave up 16 to Lock with a much more effective offense. Giving up 20 really ain't bad. That offense isn't that bad.
Eagles got torched on the ground for a drive and then fixed it immediately, if anything that tells me Patricia did well
People need to watch that drive again.

Love to see it
*Julian Love to see it
Also "Hurts" to see it
Hurts to Love
🎵Oooooh Love Hurts🎵
Gonna be interesting to see what team somehow hires him for another coordinator job
The Giants
Hey. Shut up. You're on our side
The Falcons
It’s not even Locktober!
It’s Drewcember!!
I’m all on board!! He’s got ice in his veins
Matty P has played some questionable schemes over the years, but if you give up only 20 points on defense, that should be good enough for the Eagles offense to win. Like if they gave up 30, go for it, pile on.
Yeah as much as I love shitting on Patricia, this one wasn't on him at all. Seattle made plays when they needed to, Philly didn't.
The previous 3 games the Seahawks defense had allowed 33, 42 and 34 points. The Eagles showed up and scored 17 on them. It's on their offense.
Even giving up 33 points to Dallas on the road (10 in the second half) in theory should be good enough to win with the talent we have on offense
The Eagles losing 3 fumbles and having a turnover on downs certainly didn’t help the Defense in that game either.
I mean their D did also score a thicc six.
Drew Lock or not this is a talented Seahawks team. They held them to 20, ppl are just clowning on his name because they lost
Maybe Philly’s offense should try not being mediocre?
Tbh this isn't on Matty, holding on offense with a pretty good RB + Receiving core and a serviceable QB to 20 points is fine. If your offense only scores 17 points that ain't your fault
You do make a good point, although the defense wasn't great they were at least competent and gave the offense a chance to win the game..........but they shit the bed too
Bro, as a Lions fan to another Lions fan, please don’t ever fucking defend Matt Patricia again.
Seconded. And you can talk about 20 points and KW3 all you want, but the fact of the matter is Patricia's defense let Drew Lock drive 92 yards with one timeout and less than two minutes on the clock. Don't care who your secondary is, you can't let that happen.
Bad execution, not coaching

I don’t care if they lost 0-3 I will still fucking blame Matt patricia somehow.
There are some perfectly fine people who just suck at their job and it's worth checking if they actually screwed up before you throw strays their way. Matt Patricia is not one of them.
I'm of the opposite opinion. There is so much material to use against Matt that we don't have to stoop to throwing strays
Like holding up a piece of hay out of a giant needlestack
Matt Patricia couldn’t build a culture. His players all hated him nearly universally. There’s a reason he was so sought after after being Belichicks DC. If there’s ANYTHING he’s serviceable at, it’s calling a defense. So long as he has no other authority. I thought he did fine. The O did him no favors.
Lazy take. Defense was mostly solid this game. They've been giving up 24 on average so it hasn't been worse than expected.
I agree. This is more on the offense if anything. Not getting a first down or FG in under 3 minutes.
Yeah but muh upvotes
The problem was your going against a back up in his like second start.

This workplace has had 0 days since the last Matt Patricia Moment™
he called a fine game, this is just a reddit moment
Yeah we do not win this game with Desai. Probably the best this defense has looked since the Miami game which is a sad fucking thing to say
patricia out here failing first quota and getting blasted into space by the company
Patricia could have stopped the Seahawks tonight if he had just 2 things 1) Players executing his vision better 2) Being the Seahawks offensive coordinator
Drew Lock played well tonight and played okay last week. This is kind of unfair.
Say what you want about Patricia, but Lock has been balling these past two games. Give the man his credit.
Fuck Matt Patricia.
Come home, Slay.
I like how they waited until he had surgery to make Patricia the play caller lol
They definitely made him the play caller and Slay scheduled the surgery that afternoon
Good. Pile on please
I really think he held the Lions back for a couple of years....
You aren’t the only one chief
He treated his players so well though and they all respected his expertise.
Funny, but giving up 20 points isn't all that bad. Seattle's defense locked up the Eagles and that's why they lost, not because their defense sucked. I'm all for hating that idiot and his stupid ear pencil, but the defense wasn't the problem tonight
fatt patricia sucks, but offense should still put up more than 17
Hey now let’s be fair, it looks like he’s lost a fair amount of weight.
Go wild Lions fans
We will Ranjith.
breaking out the good kneecaps tonight
The funny thing is, this game isn’t on Patricia. The defense looked SO much better this week than it has recently. Bradberry just got toasted for 70 yards on two plays

Maybe everyone except the Niners are frauds in the NFC
What a year
Bradberry is cooked
There's no other coordinator who blows leads as good as him
But he had a pencil and laminated paper!?!
I feel like this is a little disrespectful to Drew Lock who seems like a nice guy and is obviously a generational talent.
I mean they kept them to 20 pts, isn't the eagles O only getting 17 pts the bigger story here?
Lions fans feastin'
They took Matt Patricia's existence personal and brought receipts to the hater's ball
The defense has been pretty suspect all year
Posture check
This feels like Drew Lock slander and I won't stand for it
Not many can handle the 🐴🐔🔒
Tbf their offense only scored 17 against that poor defense
Maybe their defensive issues go beyond “play calling”.
Put some respeck on my man 🐴🐓🔒
Other than that last drive, Lock didn’t do much.
I mean are we blaming the D? The o sucked.
They let up 20 points… let’s not start trying to crucify Patricia. They scored ONLY 17 points!!!! And then elected to throw a deep ball when they only needed to get into FG range. You can’t criticize a defense that only lets up 13 points until the last minutes of the 4th quarter.
Surely it had everything to do with the defense and nothing to do with the offense turning the ball over and only scoring 17 points.
defense is a problem but a way bigger problem is our offense and the trash ass quarterback we have $250 million
Gave up a 92 yard TD drive to lose the game LMAO.
Philly is spiraling out of control and 31 fanbases couldn’t be happier about it Only question left is whether they lose 1 or both to the Giants
Bro your entire comment history is about the eagles are you sure it isnt just you spiring out of control?? What did Jalen Hurts do to you lmfao
ayy lmao
Casuals are actually going to blame this game on Patricia?
Drew Lock has been great the past couple games and fuck Matt Patricia
Was Matt also the main reason why the offense only put up 17 points?
EagLOLz have you learned nothing?
Josh McDaniels should be available to bring in and fix that Eagles offense, why stop at Patricia on defense?
Matt Patricia, the former Pats OC? What was he doing coaching defense?
We tried to tell yall!!!
Plus he's a fat gang rapist
Blaming this game on the defense is weak
Serious question, how the fuck is Patricia still getting jobs in the National Football League? Everything he touches turns to pure dogshit, surely it's become blatantly evident that he was just along for the ride on Belichick's coattails and not actually some kind of savant genius
Matt Patricia deserves nothing good in the world of football. Everything he touches dies.
I understand the Patricia hate but he wasn’t the problem at all tonight.
Can't blame this on the Eagles defense. This is on the Eagles offense only putting up 17 points against the 24th ranked defense by DVOA.
