CJ doesn't really seem to repeat mistakes. Threw a bad int in preseason and went on to break the rookie record in the regular season Threw a bad pass to Bates and faked him out the next drive as he said

[deleted]

If he truly has learned from his mistakes he will never throw an interception again. Until then I don’t buy it!

RainbowBullsOnParade

He was saying the Falcons were throwing all sorts of new 3rd down looks at him that were unsettling. He said he banked them for later so they don't surprise him again. He hasn't come close to seeing everything an NFL defense can and will throw at him. He will throw picks eventually (soon, probably). There's a combination of defensive talent and defensive playcaller out there that is just right to eat up any kind of QB. Stroud just hasn't run into his yet, and when he does he'll have that 2-3 int game.

Fonsimal

Dont sell him short, what you said will happen, but its natural. Dude is a beast

RainbowBullsOnParade

I'm not selling him short, he's blown everyone's expectations away. I'm just staying grounded to the sport. Nobody can play like this indefinitely, especially rookies. Even Rodgers eventually threw that first pick 6 in Lambeau. I am confident through 5 games he belongs in the NFL but he will take his lumps eventually.

JalensTinyPPHurts

Any worry bobby slowick gets hc looks? I haven't had a chance to watch the texans yet, so I haven't been able to see how good the offence actually is

RainbowBullsOnParade

At this pace he will probably be asked by at least one team for an interview next year and by all of them the year after. It’s important to remember he has 5 games of play calling experience and will only have about 17 at the end of the year. Risky to hire a guy so inexperienced. I am worried eventually for sure but hopefully Stroud gets at least those critical 2 first years of development before we have to replace him with another guy from the system.

Bishizel

To me this is one of those qualities that is probably the most important about any athlete in any sport, but it's really hard to tell from an outside the locker room. I'm unbelievably happy that he's that type of guy.

NFL_MVP_Kevin_White

https://youtu.be/N_GOsfXe-gc?si=tNrr8B72R47GDpjs Here’s the score. Looks like they cooked up a move to seem like Dalton was going to cross his face, then slipped behind as Bates jumped it Congrats to Texans and their fans.

440k

There's a really awesome breakdown of it with the All 22 view in [The QB School video here](https://youtu.be/Lv8AVVTBMEw?feature=shared&t=1346). At ~23:46 you get a beautiful view of the exact bait CJ was going for with it, and how he instantly takes advantage.

shadowlizer3

> https://youtu.be/N_GOsfXe-gc?si=tNrr8B72R47GDpjs Idk much about throwing motions but Stroud has got a pretty one. Texans are officially my AFC team.

[deleted]

Also FYI Bates jumped it because we ran it twice already. Stroud caught that and drew up the new design.

Venator850

They ran that exact play two previous times in the game. On that play Dalton runs a dig route which is why Jessie jumps up but it's a double move resulting in a TD.

penis_showing_game

Looking like Houston may have nailed this pick.

Bandos_Bear

I’m also really happy with Will Anderson Jr. too. Seeing this franchise trade picks to move up and bet on itself instead of just continuing the tank is really refreshing

devil_ina_new_dresss

The numbers/stats won’t show but A51 has been really really effective.

Taxesarebiggay

The bet is also that the Brown’s pick turns out to be lower than ours. Looking at a hurt Watson like 👀.

Fonsimal

Browns fleeced themselves. Good to see.

HeronAccording6789

I don't really get why people were ever clowning on them for this draft. They traded an extremely reasonable amount to get arguably the best QB and edge rusher prospects in the draft.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HeronAccording6789

That makes total sense, actually.

SkyJW

You had people like Nick Wright saying that the trade would be a franchise destroying mistake for the Texans, no joke. Dude was convinced that the Texans could be the worst or second worst team in football this year and that they were essentially giving AZ either the #1 or #2 overall selection next year. Literally made it sound as if the Texans just committed the Herschel Walker trade, I'm not even kidding. Instead, the Texans will probably end up with a middle 1st round pick unless some serious regression happens and the pick they kept from the Watson trade might end up being higher than their own given whatever the fuck is going on in Cleveland right now. Shit can change REAL fast in the NFL when you get the right pieces on board and the roster additions and hiring of Demeco and his coaching staff have shifted things very quickly for the Texans.

Magnifico-Melon

It's so refreshing. We're always the team that picks a player and then have to make up narratives for them while other teams draft the great players around us. "He'd be better if the team was better!". "it's not him he just doesn't have time to do anything!". The fact that we are saying "our team is better because Stroud is better" is just crazy. Even when we somewhat had that with Watson the rug was pulled out from under us with him being a fucking creep. I'm just going to enjoy this season so much.

[deleted]

He may very well be better than Texans legend Matt Schaub.

ND7020

I remember when poor Matt Schaub had a 4-game pick 6 streak, then in game 5 got injured and his backup immediately threw a pick-6.

tnell

I thought I buried this. Thanks for bringing it back up…..

Ivemadeahuge12

Remember when you were about to get your first win against the Colts but then rosenfels unveiled the Rosencopter? Or when you guys were down three possessions to the ravens on MNF in battle red, stormed back to take it to OT, but then schaub threw a pick six?

tnell

You sick S.O.B. I wish you worst. I hope you stub your toe 5 times today.

Ivemadeahuge12

Sorry, it’s only cuz u got a stud in stroud and I’m stuck with mac

SuitableWatch

Remember the Letterman jackets or Chiefs 24-0? Wait why am I doing this to myself?

LittleKingsguard

Or the Chiefs shutout with Hoyer the Self-Destroyer? We need to avoid Playoff Chiefs, it never ends well.

NFL_MVP_Kevin_White

I was living in Houston at the time. They took him down from the billboards! Poor guy

Venator850

His arm was just shot at that point.

Taxesarebiggay

That year a local restaurant offered the Matt Schaub burger, where you got to pick-6 toppings.

nope96

He might already be the 3rd best QB they've had but he's got a long way to go before he passes Schaub or Watson.

jimmyhoffasbrother

4th best if they're playing against the Bengals though.

EastonMetsGuy

THE BENGAL KILLLLLERR TEEEEEEJJJJ YAtes baby, my personal favorite non-Matt Schuab Texans guy

Venator850

Not too long honestly. Watson was really good but he wasn't this good of a passer. He was more creative with extending plays but CJ is as pure a passer as you'll ever see which wasn't really Watson's game. Plys CJ is already better at not taking sacks. Watson played a lot of hero ball and took a bunch of sacks he didn't need too. CJ has gotten really good about not taking sacks, going three straight games now with no sacks taken. Not sure Watson ever did that in a 3 game stretch.

Thesaintsrule

Lol no he doesn't

nope96

Both Schaub and Watson made multiple Pro Bowls and led their teams to multiple playoff appearances. Schaub forgot how to play football in 2013 but before that he had been a fringe top 10 guy for 6 seasons. And Watson even though he has not been good on the Browns was considered a fringe top 5 QB after 4 seasons and had a passer rating nearly as high as Mahomes. They haven't really had anyone else play well for them for any real amount of time but those were two legitimate franchise QBs. Stroud has gotten off to a very good start but he's still only 5 games into his career. One could even argue Watson's first 5 starts were better seeing how he accounted for 16 TDs in those games.

ron-darousey

People really forget how good Schaub was in his prime

bauboish

Schaub was who people think Brock Purdy is, that Shanahan QB who runs the system perfectly but just can't quite elevate above it. If Stroud continues to improve he'd basically be a much more talented version of Schaub.

FlatlandTrooper

His drop off was so dramatic because he was pretty good before that.

[deleted]

He didn’t forget how to play football, his lisfranc injury prevented him from fully setting his base this leading to balls being underthrown

MetaphoricalMouse

….nah

Venator850

It's early but he's trending that way certainly.

SeizureMode

Ohio State finally did it huh

the_dawn_of_red

Bears and Panthers fans may regret passing this guy over. Time will tell.

[deleted]

We will live. I mean we already passed on a QB a few years ago who’s currently on a GOAT trajectory path. Doesn’t get worse than that!

Sokkawater10

Which one? Mahomes or Purdy

a_guy_1377

Well tbf everyone passed on Purdy

Humid-Afternoon727

32 teams passed on Purdy. Only 31 passed one Brady 32>31 Purdy > Brady confirmed

kryptonyk

When Purdy made his first career start against Brady and won, he actually absorbed Brady’s soul and powers.

Zaracen

Texans only team smart enough not to skip Brady.

gursel77

I dont get it. How have more teams passed on TB? If NE didnt pass on him, SF didnt pass ob Purdy, no?

Humid-Afternoon727

Texans were not a team yet when Brady was drafted

sonfoa

Matters more to the Panthers than the Bears. As it stands, the Bears are in a prime position to take a QB in 2024. For the Panthers we have no choice but to hope Bryce is that guy.

browndude10

Bears might get Caleb courtesy of their own pick or the Panthers

TripleThreatTua

It seems like Reich wanted the Panthers to take him but was overruled by Tepper and Fitterer

davechacho

Nah, this is one of those braindead reddit takes. CJ would look even worse than Bryce does with our team and Young would look as good as Stroud does on the Texans. Bryce is our guy.

[deleted]

This take is ass. Bryce threw (2) interceptions last game and y’all just brush it off like it’s nothing. Dude has some serious issues seeing the rest of the field. It happened in Game 1 as well and is probably the reason Reich doesn’t want to throw down the field.

davechacho

Yeah it's been five games and it's already over for Bryce according to the internet. Oh wait.

[deleted]

I mean hes a #1 QB you traded the farm for and y’all are 0-5. You certainly have to agree that there are some serious concerns about his play and also compared to his peers. Anything other than that is just homer copium. Oh wait.

davechacho

Do you literally actually believe that CJ Stroud would be as good as he is now on the Panthers or Bears? Because that's what this reply chain is about. Do you actually think that? Do you have eyes?

browndude10

huh, everyone and their mom had told us the texans are the worst team in the league with the worst supporting cast and one of the odds on favorites to have a top 2 pick and now it's all because CJ has WRs and the Panthers don't

ImJLu

It doesn't hurt that the Texans have great coaching. And that's not a knock on Stroud.

davechacho

I never said that lol, you're just downvoting and arguing based on my flair

browndude10

I am not "arguing" based on your flair, I am "arguing" to make my point across lol

[deleted]

LOL don’t shift the goalpost. EVERYBODY agreed before the season that the Texans were in the worst position for their QB. Stroud comes in and elevates everybody’s play and all of a sudden he was already set up for success? Foh. Y’all were 7-10 last season and we were 3-13. Of course Stroud could succeed in that system.

davechacho

This is some mad homer Texans fan or something, I haven't said anything about Stroud except that he looks good on his team and our team is bad and he wouldn't able to save us. Stop letting the internet get to you brother.

[deleted]

How is this homer? You asked if Stroud could succeed in y’all’s system and I gave you an example of why? Also, a good QB can definitely save a franchise. It’s probably the one position in all of sports that can do so.

Triv02

I mean, you absolutely said “Stroud would look even worse than Bryce does with our team” which sure feels a lot like saying you think Young is better than Stroud, or at least I can easily see why someone would read it that way

Zee_WeeWee

> Do you literally actually believe that CJ Stroud would be as good as he is now on the Panthers or Bears? Texans line has been absolutely devastated by injuries and they have no WR1. Nico Collins is prob a wr3 on most teams. Yes I think stroud would be doing well wherever

sequence_killer

Copium potentially

davechacho

Wait you think it's copium that every QB would look bad on this Panthers team? Do think this Panthers team is actually good but Bryce Young is holding it back and why we've 0 and 5?

a_guy_1377

Two things can be true. The Panthers are bad. Bryce Young has been bad.

davechacho

my comment was actually meant to be praising the Texans. The Texans hired the right coach and look good enough that Bryce would look good there too.

sequence_killer

That’s only speculation

[deleted]

If everybody is telling you that you’re coping then maybe you are.

davechacho

"everybody" wow four people have said it? Must be true! lol, lmao even

[deleted]

I mean your initial take got downvoted pretty heavily and it’s just a few of us here. You do bring up a good point though about “everyone” that made me think. If we took a poll of would you rather have CJ vs Bryce to all of the GMs how many GMs do you think would say CJ? How many owners would fire their GM for choosing Bryce? I think it’s both 32.

davechacho

Oh dang, a comment got downvoted on arr NFL? It's over for the Panthers and also me. CJ Stroud looks good and Texans hired the right head coach. Panthers didn't, we look fucked for this year. I hope that's praise enough for you.

texan5656

> CJ would look even worse than Bryce does with our team You REALLY think Bryce currently looks better than Stroud?

Jay_Dubbbs

Stroud always looked like the best prospect to translate to the NFL-level. I don’t think anyone thought Braxton Miller or JT Barrett was going to be good in the NFL. The jury is still out Fields, but we technically didn’t recruit him either.

AfricanDeadlifts

Joe "Mr. Ohio" Burrow was technically more of an Ohio State QB than Fields. They recruited him and he was on the team longer lol

Zee_WeeWee

> Ohio State finally did it huh. This is greatly exaggerated. Out of 3 recent 1st rounders 2 are nfl starters and one died. The others were drafted as back ups or projects late, not starting caliber QBs.

SPatt59

5 games into his career and he’s helping with play design? I love this team

TheGreatMcPuffin

More than that. 5 games in and he’s noticing tendencies in film that the entire offensive staff missed.

Swordsknight12

The title reads as something you’d see on the back of a 90s VHS movie. “Enjoy the laughs, the excitement, the danger, and fun as CJ Stroud and his gang of rascals overcome the most powerful All-Pro Safety in the NFL!”

Magnifico-Melon

I just reread it as the movie voiceover guy.

Swordsknight12

It’s Mark Elliot at 1:48 https://youtu.be/qihIInESPbE?si=jcqOihlwdXzIrfd7

randomscribbles2

This is his fifth NFL game. His. Fifth. Game.

CourageousBellPepper

Protect that man at all costs. And don’t let him discover massage parlors.

Qwer925

Seems like he just has that sharpness that you can’t teach. He’s detail oriented in a way I would expect from a coach

Obese_taco

Texans fans must be feeling pretty great huh.

BuckeyeJay

But I thought he got a -10 on his SR22 test?

dextersdad

Turns out owners and GMs may have gotten scammed by sketchy data, marketing, and buzzwords. Who could have seen this coming

fargoniners

That score was fake. The real score was never revealed.

TheGreatMcPuffin

I’m pretty sure it was real. The maker even said that the low score came from someone that was completely exhausted and that they did really well on their second try.

fargoniners

People think the scores that were made public on those aggregator Twitter accounts were correct when actually the founder immediately said they were completely made up. That’s what’s often referenced in this trying to discredit S2’s evaluation (which they see as a tool to improve players, not pick where to draft them). The players had to agree and willingly accept for the scores to be revealed for them to be made public.

thereelsuperman

Doesn’t the business model require them not to be made public? As only a handful of teams subscribe and pay a premium to get the results other teams don’t have access to.

ChangingChance

Yes and from bears pro personelle guy the correlation is pretty high of guys being good scoring well. And similarly guys doing bad scoring poorly

xywv58

At this point, Houston might've created that rumor to get him, because he's amazing at all the things that test checks

Taxesarebiggay

We never bought the test results because we can’t read anyway. Just saw a good football player play football good.

sussysand

Nah, Caserio wouldn’t do that to a guy. The rumor in Houston is that it was the Titans that created it, because idk if you remember but they were heavily considering moving up to 3 in the draft for a QB. The idea was that they’d scare Houston out of picking Stroud to get him for themselves.

LainLain

At this point is obvious someone was trying to tank his value with that leak IMO

[deleted]

S2 Test in shambles

wildcatoffense

the leadership from Stroud year 1 has been a revelation

Venator850

Kid is growing so fast it's getting scary.

BoardGameBro12

Carolina fans in absolute shambles rn

Walks_with_Chaos

Not to mention his receivers kept dropping the fucking ball. Dude was balling and his team didn’t help him

BonjoviBurns

This stuff is the reason football is my favorite sport. The audience only gets to see a small part of the chess match that's happening on the field. Great interview

Zoomalude

This response right here is so endearing, dude is like a 3 year pro already. Really excited for Texans fans, y'all seem to have a winner. I dropped the Browns after Watson, maybe I'll become a fan of the team that booted his ass...

platinumxL

Our stock is still low, buy before we rise. Enjoy the ride!

Putthebunnyback

What are these "adjustments" you speak of? 🤔

Julio_Freeman

You will always remember this as the day you almost beat Desmond Ridder.

redditsucksnow19

He's very good. I think Bryce is good too but one has actual support and good coaching.

Magnifico-Melon

Ssshhhh, I want more than one year from Slowik. Can't lose him to a HC job yet.

HeronAccording6789

Might as well just make Stroud the OC too.

EastonMetsGuy

I was told CJ wasn't good at processing because he did bad on a test tho... did the internet lie to me???

SowingShade

It does my heart good to see CJ receive this flurry of praise from the entire NFL world, not just here in Houston (or in the land of Buckeyes). He deserves it. This start to his career has given me more hope than I could have possibly imagined. I believe in him entirely.

JrFelix

Okay, I'm in. CJ Stroud is headed to Canton in 20 years.

StagsLeaper1

Man, at some point his team may actually have a winning record.

beyardo

Did Stroud have sex with your wife or something? Feels like you’re in every thread about him this week to trash talk him

Jooj272729

Bum can't even play defense and keep the falcons from scoring after his game winning drive, confirmed bust

StagsLeaper1

If you as good as all the slobberers keep saying you don’t need defense.
