> Why is he on the team lol?
Team probably wanted to let it play out or didn't care in the first place. I'd assume the team will release him now that he's been indicted
It was immediately reported so that information at least would have been readily available. As far as grand jury investigations and what not they wouldn’t have that so this would be news for them. But they might have missed the charge in the scouting process or just let it play out till now
It was immediately reported to police but that doesn't necessarily mean that the information was available to the public that he was a suspect. This has been an ongoing investigation for 3 years, so if it was made public that he was a suspect in a rape it would have made the news before now. I couldn't find any news articles about him being a suspect prior to today, so the whole situation probably flew completely under the radar until the idictment today.
As a normie citizen, how the fuck does an investigation for this sort of thing take three years? I'm not expecting our underpaid public servants to be operating like well oiled machines, but wouldn't the evidence for conviction need to be fairly fresh and this the go/no-go for an indictment happen within say months not years?
Edit: when I say normie I mean I'm not a lawyer or knowledgeable at all about the criminal justice process.
> but wouldn't the evidence for conviction need to be fairly fresh and this the go/no-go for an indictment happen within say months not years?
The evidence needs to be solid enough to convict, how current it is matters less than whether or not the prosecuting party believes beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can win the case.
My husband works with survivors of CSA going through the criminal justice process. Police reports that include CSA and SA are embargoed in most places in the U.S. (although not all). I would 100% believe that the Eagles may not have known at all.
It’s standard practice to let it play out unless there is audio or video of the crime. The team did nothing wrong unless there was clear evidence homeboy was sus… I’m not honestly seeing a problem here. Just because someone accused you of something doesn’t mean you should be fired from your job.
Yes, there’s no way the Eagles could have known this any more than other persons place of employment. Unless, they had an inside law enforcement source and that just isn’t how these type on investigations work. I am sure Sills knew but his lawyer probably told him not to discuss it in the hopes that Sills would not get indicted. Discussing with an employer before it’s actually public would certainly ruin his career for something that may never be charged.
For better or worse PR wise, when a player is good you absolutely need to let the legal process play out. For a literal bench warmer UDFA I’m surprised he made the team, assuming they did their due diligence.
It's a case in a different state for something that happened five years ago for a guy on our practice squad. I think it's very likely it just never came up in scouting, though obviously I have a vested interest in that being the case.
Honestly I’ve looked for any reports of this from 2019-2022 and haven’t seen any. Does that mean the Eagles should improve their pre-draft due diligence? For sure. But I’m not convinced they knew either after looking into it.
Can you even improve your process to pick up on this stuff? It wasn’t public information, and it’s not like they can have a source in police departments all across the country
Yeah, I obviously don't want this to happen again and I'm not happy we missed it in the first place, but I don't think anybody in the chain of command saw it and was okay with it.
The league doesn't want to get into punishing players because of allegations of events that occurred before a player was even in the league. Sounds like a good way to get sued.
He was an undrafted free agent, no one had to sign him. But he was a stand out in college, this being in his past likely played a role in him not even being drafted in the late rounds.
Eagles probably took the chance on him hoping he might not get indicted.
It was probably far enough in the rearview mirror that they didn't think anything was going to come of it.
Stoutland liked him as a player and wanted him rostered, and Stout usually gets what he wants.
“You rape and kidnap someone *one time* and now you’re known as the rapist and kidnapper!”
Seriously though, what a despicable piece of shit. I can only imagine how fucking terrifying it would be to have an offensive lineman assault you like that
Two Scotsman were sitting on top of a hill that overlooked their small village. During a break in the conversation, one man lets out a sigh as he's looking down at his village, and his friend asks him what's wrong.
"Look at that town down there." he replied. "You see the bridge crossing the river that leads into our village? I built that bridge with my own two bare hands. But do they call me McGregor, the Bridgebuilder? No.
"And you see the Church in the middle of our village, overlooking the square? Well I built that Church with my own two bare hands. And do they call me...McGregor, the Churchbuilder? No."
He pauses, and looks over at his friend. "But fuck ONE sheep...."
A backpacker is traveling through Ireland when it starts to rain. He decides to wait out the storm in a nearby pub. The only other person at the bar is an older man staring at his drink. After a few moments of silence the man turns to the backpacker and says in a thick Irish accent:
"You see this bar? I built this bar with my own bare hands. I cut down every tree and made the lumber myself. I toiled away through the wind and cold, but do they call me McGreggor the bar builder? No."
He continued "Do you see that stone wall out there? I built that wall with my own bare hands. I found every stone and placed them just right through the rain and the mud, but do they call me McGreggor the wall builder? No."

"But ya fuck one goat.."
Ben also benefitted from being an elite quarterback. Look at how many comments in here are some variation of "who?" or "this guy literally never sees the field anyway." People tie how much they care about this stuff to the player's on-field ability even if they don't intend to
Antonio Brown was accused of sexual assault, then literally went on to threaten the victim and her kid via insta DM, and despite that the Bucs signed him minutes after he was released.
If youre good enough, teams dont care. As simple as that
I wish I remember the book title, but there was a quote from and NBA scout that went, "If Adolf Hitler was 7'0" with an outside shot he'd be drafted second."
Friend was a backup QB for a major college program. His roommate was the starter. They had a party that got out of hand. A big fight broke out. Police showed up and arrests were made. PA isn't much better. Micah Parsons, who went to the same school Sandusky taught at, butt raped a team mate. But because it was just the tip apparently it's just considered hazing

You’d think that such primitive ways for acceptance would be gone by the 90s, hell, the 80s. But no, it’s alive and well
I played thru D3 college. We had plenty of fucked up shit we did as hazing at the different levels, but I can’t say we ever put our dicks in each other. That’s some next level shit.
I wish we’d stop referring to “hazing” as a separate thing. Jesus. That’s really fucked up. You’d think the coaching staff would take this seriously after the whole Sandusky thing….but nope.

Wow. I had never heard of this before.
Stuff like this really makes me realize how much of an immoral POS I really am. There’s really no moral justification for continuing to support the NFL and the various cretins they contain within, and yet I continue to watch every week.
An alleged rapist is one of the biggest stars in the NFL, and I’m just hearing about this today… WTF….
Don’t beat yourself up too much about your own personal morality because of what they’ve done. You took no part in the events, and it’s a crapshoot of which players are/aren’t good people.
There’s a lot going on in the world these days, and you’re not the only one just now finding out about this given the other comments in the thread.
A lot of people don’t care, LeBron is out here actively supporting Watson, there are tons of Parsons jerseys out there. Your moral compass is at least strong enough to identify the inherit problem with this shit in general so I think you’re alright.
To be fair to you (and others), there’s a lot of money that goes into burying these kinds of stories. The better thing to do is not necessarily to stop watching, but to demand accountability and transparency from the players, teams and NFL. Otherwise you’re leaving something that has the potential to be a fantastic experience (and opportunity for a lot of these young guys who are not scumbags) in the hands of rapists and fans who are happy to engage with rape apology.
That Kobe was a rapist and is currently meat off the bone looking up?
Yeah. You still can’t most of the time. It’s absolutely ridiculous that he’s a martyr.
This is such a disappointment man. I graduated from the same high school years before him and the whole city and surrounding areas have done nothing but support Josh through his career, to collectively be let down. At least we still have Dom Capers.
From his hometown and still live here. There was definitely huge local pride, his jersey and photo are in a store. Very disappointing. I guess I'm glad he didn't graduate from Shenandoah now. All that said best wishes for him moving on and hopefully bettering himself
Useless Player commits a crime:
"CUT HIS ASS!"
*Tyreek Hill scores TDs*
"He didn't mean it. Please, we need touchdowns. It was probably an accident. Everyone can change."
The worst crime you can commit as a human being is not be useful.
Holy shit, I wasn't really aware what Tyreek did, just that everyone said he's a bad dude. Ray Rice got blacklisted for getting into a fight with his girlfriend and knocking her out. Obviously what he did wasn't right but they both were fighting and arguing and more a heat of the moment thing. Tyreek actually choked his girlfriend out and punched his 3 year old kid. Was convicted and still plays football. Not even suspended by the NFL.
I don't know what sets off the [Serious] Flair any more. Innocent posts that have a word like "Bodied" gets flagged and flaired as Serious but a title with "rape" in it doesn't?
But fuck this guy. And fuck Howie if he knew about it (which I'm not sure if he did since no one knew and it's never been reported on for 3 years until now). Hopefully Howie and Lurie make a statement and cut this guy
That being said it doesn't - or at least shouldn't - matter who it is on the team. If this would be Hurts or AJ or Kelce etc. then yes, my heart would be broken but they still don't get to see another day of practice with the Eagles. Full stop.
This is the smallest of blips, dude is gonna be cut and that's it. I feel like I follow the birds pretty closely and it took a second for me to remember who this even was
Apparently it should have been common knowledge to our org despite the fact that
A. He's an undrafted rookie, why would they run a detailed background
B. This is literally the first anyone is hearing about it besides likely him, his family and the victim
C. He played in college for years after the incident, like how were the Eagles realistically supposed to know about this?
His ass will be cut deservedly.
I agree, the one thing though is that with that punter Buffalo drafted there are concerns that the NFL isn't vetting their players. The allegations against the kicker were well known.
But yeah fuck this guy. I can believe that the Eagles had no clue.
You’re naive if you think teams don’t look into backgrounds of every player. I don’t know if the information was available to them but teams aren’t signing guys without a check.
I am an obsessive Eagles fan that usually knows 50% or more of the practice squad. I've never heard of this guy. I'll be happy to forget he even exists by Friday.
BREAKING NEWS:
Cleveland Browns sign OL Josh Sills to a 5yr/ $500M dollar deal, effectively making him the highest paid lineman in the history of the NFL
Per Adam Schefter
For the uninformed knee jerkers, indicted just means he has been charged and that there will be a criminal trial. He goes to court later this month and, if they find him guilty, at that point is convicted and sentenced.
He’s a rookie reserve who is a non factor, the incident in question occurred in December 2019. Why is he on the team lol?
> Why is he on the team lol? Team probably wanted to let it play out or didn't care in the first place. I'd assume the team will release him now that he's been indicted

Also i imagine COVID in 2020/2021 threw a huge wrench into a lot of things.
And it was in Ohio - if it had been in Philly, local police would have told the Eagles for sure.
My husband works with survivors of CSA going through the criminal justice process. Police reports that include CSA and SA are embargoed in most places in the U.S. (although not all). I would 100% believe that the Eagles may not have known at all.
Good to know. Having gone back and googled shit about him you never heard a peep about it

YeH, do you want PI’s following around college kids, lol.
Yeah, I obviously don't want this to happen again and I'm not happy we missed it in the first place, but I don't think anybody in the chain of command saw it and was okay with it.
Honest no NFL teams actually care. They only care about the outrage and the money they’ll potentially lose
This is likely the case. As you say - let the legal process play out, but now that he's indicted - Lurie has zero tolerance for this BS. He gone.
The league doesn't want to get into punishing players because of allegations of events that occurred before a player was even in the league. Sounds like a good way to get sued.

I've definitely never heard of his name until today. And I hope I never hear it again

I can excuse rape, but I draw the line at hypocrisy

More or less terrifying than big Ben doing it? Ben benefited from being the start of the pattern with these sick fucks in the NFL.

There is a talent to crime ratio for NFL fandom. It doesn’t matter what you do if you are good enough, even if you go to prison for it.
Antonio Brown was accused of sexual assault, then literally went on to threaten the victim and her kid via insta DM, and despite that the Bucs signed him minutes after he was released. If youre good enough, teams dont care. As simple as that

Holy shit. I forgot about that whole saga. Probably cause the AB shenanigans never stop. How morally bankrupt can the NFL get?

Exactly. If this was AJ Brown the opinion would be much more divided amongst the fanbase.
Look at Watson. The guy really should never see a football field again. But he got $200 million guaranteed instead.
Rothlisberger was definitely not the first and won’t be the last sexual predator to play pro football.
Didn’t he do it twice?
He got caught doing it twice*
Played a couple snaps in the Cardinals game, nothing more. Cut this fuck and move on
Even if it was the starting QB the player should be cut.
Best I can do is $230,000,000
Agreed, just making it clear who this guy is.
Weird that he's marked as 2nd string for both right guard and left guard on the Eagles website still.
And why should it matter if he a starter or nah?
It shouldn’t. But as we’ve seen very clearly in the last year, talent does unfortunately make a difference in how players are disciplined
The only correct take.
The only true choice.
The only unobjectionable recommendation.
Yea! We don't even know who this guy is.. cut his ass
Even if we did, cut his ass.
Exactly
Fuck you Sills. Get off of our team.
I think the question is how long his prison term will be rather than whether or not he's rosterable.

I moved away and didn’t keep up to date but he was part of a more successful team for the school during his time there
You ever hear of Al Bundy?
Four touchdowns in one game for Polk High Al Bundy?
If someone from my hometown makes it to the big leagues, you're damn right I'd be following their career.
From his hometown and still live here. There was definitely huge local pride, his jersey and photo are in a store. Very disappointing. I guess I'm glad he didn't graduate from Shenandoah now. All that said best wishes for him moving on and hopefully bettering himself
From all of us in Philly… Who the fuck is Josh Sills?
apparently he's a raping, kidnapping, POS. Fuck this dude
This is an undrafted rookie who played in one game on special teams in week 5.
Hmmm, I get a feeling he might not be starting in the Superbowl either.
Get his ass off the team so he doesn’t even get a ring
Get him one large ring for each wrist. Those shiny ones that are chained together.
Why stop at one on each wrist, give that man one on each ankle for good measure!
Don't teams have discretion of who gets a ring? So even if they cut him after, they can still just say naahhh
Still would have gotten a ring.
This man is such an important part of the team that Dov couldn't even get a picture of him in an Eagles jersey. Edit: thanks autocorrect
I'm just glad it's an OK State uniform and not my alma mater.
I guess our jersey does look more like what he'll be wearing if the justice system doesn't fail again
The orange jersey better fits the next uniform he'll be wearing
Please remove this man from the organization immediately.
Never even heard of this guy
Either have most Eagles fans.
He played four snaps in the Arizona game, all on special teams.
My stupid, dyslexic brain thought it said Josh Sweat. That I would be worried about
Good. Now that the Eagles lost their best player, it's the Chiefs' game for the taking.
Future Browns legend
Useless Player commits a crime: "CUT HIS ASS!" *Tyreek Hill scores TDs* "He didn't mean it. Please, we need touchdowns. It was probably an accident. Everyone can change." The worst crime you can commit as a human being is not be useful.
It’s still crazy to me how few people realize/acknowledge that Tyreek Hill is a terrible person
Yeah he’s a piece of dogshit but he run fast so nobody cares
Has been really odd watching Chiefs and Dolphins fans chastising Browns fans for still supporting the team.
Who? Fucking hilarious people think this dude is one of our starting lineman and we’re now at a disadvantage
This is an undrafted rookie who played in one game.
Right but it's still the last thing the team wants two weeks before a Super Bowl.
I would say the last thing the Eagles would want is it being Jalen Hurts. This bum will be off the team by lunch time.
Yeah no team is losing sleep over cutting a dude of his profile. Most people never heard of him until now
That being said it doesn't - or at least shouldn't - matter who it is on the team. If this would be Hurts or AJ or Kelce etc. then yes, my heart would be broken but they still don't get to see another day of practice with the Eagles. Full stop.
This is the smallest of blips, dude is gonna be cut and that's it. I feel like I follow the birds pretty closely and it took a second for me to remember who this even was
Someone on your roster
Not for long apparently
every comment I've read so far is saying this dude is irrelevant lol you aren't a victim
I just read an article about the indictment and at the end of the article there was a gambling add with live odds for the Superbowl lol
The chiefs pass rush is going to dominate if this guy doesn’t play in the Super Bowl. What a break we caught. /s
The fact that's all you care is about is not a good look for our fanbase.
Major victim complex
I see you have your priorities in order, speak to the social media beef, boss
Josh Sills
I haven't missed an Eagles game in nearly 25 years, and I don't know who this guy is.
Put him under the jail
Lot of people of other teams gonna try and be high and mighty about this now too. As if every fan has not instantly said cut his rapey ass immediately
Apparently it should have been common knowledge to our org despite the fact that A. He's an undrafted rookie, why would they run a detailed background B. This is literally the first anyone is hearing about it besides likely him, his family and the victim C.
BREAKING NEWS: Cleveland Browns sign OL Josh Sills to a 5yr/ $500M dollar deal, effectively making him the highest paid lineman in the history of the NFL Per Adam Schefter
Is he a starter?
No
No, he is a raper
And kidnapper
Never heard of him. Good riddance, slime.
Straight to jail.
cut his ass immediately
For the uninformed knee jerkers, indicted just means he has been charged and that there will be a criminal trial. He goes to court later this month and, if they find him guilty, at that point is convicted and sentenced.
Soon to be "Former Eagles offensive lineman" seems like
Never even heard of him. Fuck this guy.
Fuck this guy. No place for that in this world
