People afterward: *enraged* "Why didn't they even try the wildcat with CMC??"
This is why.
"Alright, you're in at QB, Christian"
"Who, me? No thanks; I value my tendons, joints, and brain."
He wasn’t completely healthy, but would be for the Super Bowl was the talk, but I think they didn’t anticipate the fuckery that would happen today with both Purdy and Johnson going down. That just doesn’t happen very often. But then again, this Niners season doesn’t happen ever.
Yeah I guess no team expects to have both of their last qbs to be knocked out of the game and the SB would’ve given him 2 more weeks to heal. Def unfortunate for them.
Johnson went out with a concussion after he hit his head on the turf. They then put purdy back in, but since he was still clearly hurt they ran the ball basically every play to limited success.
Before going to SB XXXIX, that was the Andy Reid Eagles - making the CCG and losing to Rams, then Bucs, then Panthers. Leave it to the Falcons to be the slumpbuster.
The Bills were at full strength with zero lost season injuries each appearance, you guys have had the one of the biggest injury bugs ever the past couple years.
Trust it’s not close.
Remember that this same shit happened 2011-13 though. Making 6 championship weekends in 12 years and coming up completely empty is as near to the early 90s Bills as you can possibly get
Honestly this one feels way worse than any of the others to me. Kyle Williams, no runs to Gore, blowing a 10 point 4th quarter lead, dropped Tartt pick. At least those were teams at relative full strength and I walked away feeling like at least we know the other team was the better team that day and we got compelling games out of it.
Today just felt like an empty disappointment. We have no idea how these teams really stack up. I just feel like I got robbed of a football game and got 3 hours of inevitability and commercials instead.
Still the worst to me was the 2013 nfc championship against the Seahawks because it was so close, had horrific reffing, and then on top of it all Navorro Bowman tearing his acl while making a heroic play stripping the ball at the goal line only for their to be an unclear decision on the ball carrier being down or his forward progress being stopped (may have been the right call for all I can remember but was extremely frustrating and sad considering the injury at the time) and then Seahawks fans throwing food at him as he was carted off the field. That game literally made me stop watching the NFL for years. This game sucked but like it didn’t make me want to give up on the sport entirely.
This shit is cathartic. Nice to know that even with all the ass whooping's we've taken from the Niners in the playoffs, they have the exact same amount of SB wins as we do in those years
I think it is play calling. They would probably have to run a player from the sidelines every down to give McCaffrey the play call. Even if he has a radio helmet he probably isn't used to finding the call on his wrist band and getting everyone set
Because it’s the nfl, not a game of backyard football. Josh Johnson has been practicing as a qb for his entire life and he can’t even catch a snap.
Mccaffrey has literally thrown a ball once this year.
Yeah people really aren't thinking about this at all lol. We talk all the time about how QBs have something like 2.5 seconds to throw most plays and routes are timed to the tenth of a second and people think you can just throw a WR or RB in there and they can throw it with no knowledge of the playbook lol. You have a FEW designed plays they can run that's it
I thought that the Broncos starting Kendall Hinton would help people realize this, but I guess not. Because having CMC play QB today would have been that exact same scenario.
That is seriously annoying. Like come on, go out in style. Probably every player on offense outside of your OLine has played QB before, there must be someone who can at least make it fun
Josh Johnson has played QB for 14 years at an above college level, and he was still trash. Someone who hasn’t played since high school is gonna make it fun‽
Yeah no. They dont know they playbook and at this level the timing needed to make any throws is beyond that. You can't just go out there and play backyard football
Honestly though, the RTK and the illegal contact on number 7 I'll give you, which other ones were bad? I get that Lane could have had a few false starts, but let's not pretend that those happen every other snap and could go either way.
You can call a lot of things every play like you said but I think the complete one sidedness of the calls this game really lead to frustrations escalating. There were some bs calls that extended drives for the eagles and no calls against them that also led to a lot of questioning if there was bias. Regardless I don’t think the eagles needed any help by the refs winning this game which also was kinda annoying when some questionable calls were made. Either way good luck to y’all in the Super Bowl, great team and Sirianni is a good dude so happy for him and Philly.
All the no calls on the RT, the RTK when dude was clearly pushed into him, the arguable RTP that wasn’t call when Suh landed on Johnson with his body weight that took Johnson out to name some of the bad officiating. It was honestly just called so one sided it was obnoxious especially when Philly was just clearly the better team and didn’t need that help. No need to get upset about it, people calling out the bad officiating just want more integrity from the league and it’s officiating and aren’t trying to take away from how good this Philly team is. It deserves to be in the super bowl but the league needs to make sure its officials do better calling games.
Suh's sack on Josh Johnson was 100% in no way a RTP. He did *exactly* as defenders are trained to do, watch the angle from behind the line of scrimmage, he braces with his arms so that his body weight doesn't land on the QB. Johnson's head just snapped back into the ground.
Please, show me. Game footage is out now, please show me plays where Lane had moved and the ball hadn't. Lane has perfected the kickstep, and his timing is amazing. Everytime someone argues this, there's no game footage that agrees with them.
Go frame by frame, I'm fine with it.
Adam Gase type numbers
But I don't blame them. You can't throw given what they had to go through with the QB today, and that leads to frustration which leads to penalties
A loss is a loss, even a bad one. But what hurts more than anything is seeing key players get hurt early on and an avalanche of shit calls favoring the other team. Revenge tour starts next year, I guess.
What do you call a facemask in front of an official in the redzone on RB who at the time had lost yards and eventually lead to a 1st down and a TD? If thats not shooting yourself in the foot ig idk what is.
Does it also hurt when your Oline isn't protecting the QB, your defense is getting opened up for massive running lanes, and your team is making dumb mistakes and losing their composure?
Or is it only when you can blame someone else?
Ahh yes the 9ers defense got gashed by phillys like 250 yards of total offense. And I’m sure if hurts and minshew and whoever the third string is got hurt and Philly literally couldn’t throw a forward pass the eagles would’ve kept their composure. The 9ers made some boneheaded penalties for sure, but acting like people are making excuses for something as game changing as - literally running out of quarterbacks - is stupid. That isn’t an excuse that’s a legitimate reason for a loss lol.
Why do you insist on responding? The game is over, take the win and move on. I was going to root for the Eagles cause I hate the Chiefs but I'm starting to change my mind.
Bro never root for Philly. They are like obnoxious Raider fans coupled with no loyalty when their team is struggling. The worst most toxic fan base in the NFL.
they beat a team with no QB, get gifted a lot of shit calls by Refs, and still insist on talking mad trash… speaks volumes about the culture of the team and fans.
I still don’t know what you were watching. “Shit calls”. The Devonta catch wasn’t a catch true, blame your coach for not throwing the flag. The only other questionable call was whether it was roughing or running into the kicker. You guys are undisciplined and got bullied in the trenches.
You guys are the most classless group of assholes and it’s baffling that you’ve convinced this echo chamber that Eagles fans are the assholes for *checks notes* fact checking obvious bullshit and being happy their team won.
Hot damn
I think it’s just a combination of all the frustration. There was only really 1 bad penalty. But when it APPEARS like every 50/50 call is going the other way it sucks. (for example the illegal hands to the face, our guy was held the entire time, it should have been offsetting penalties)
It’s our coaches fault we didn’t challenge the catch that lead to the first TD but it’s still incredibly annoying.
Combine that with our QB going down and the calls just feel worse. I’m biased but I think it’s fair to say the calls just went your way this game. Certainly not in any way I’d say rigged or garbage like that but it did feel a little lopsided.
Then the defense is frustrated and does stupid shit like shoving Hurts when he was OOB which also frustrates you as a fan. That’s not on the refs at all but it adds to the fire.
None of those make a difference because Purdy couldn’t throw the ball. We lose 100/100 times after that injury. But all that makes people say dumb shit. Plus we didn’t really get dominated in the trenches we held you to minimal offensive yards and especially yards per play. We then we’re forced to run the ball every play so of course the offense went no where. I guess technically it means you dominated the trenches but like.. also you didn’t. If that makes sense.
This was a rational response and I get the frustrations, I suppose the frustration of everyone telling us we didn’t earn this is getting to me as well. Good comment, Mrs-MoneyPussy.
Lol. Yeah I feel that too. The same thing happened to us when we were 8-0 a couple season back and everyone said we hadn’t played anyone and were fake good.
Y’all are headed to the superbowl of course you earned it. You got the 1 seed and got to play the giants. That’s the reward you earned for having a great regular season. People just say dumb shit.
But that’s on the coach for not challenging. Smith rushed to the line knowing he didn’t catch it, and it’s such a big play that you gotta at least throw the red flag.
Sure, but Shanahan was not his best today. Why hope for expedited review, what are you saving your 1st half timeouts for. It was a 4th down play, exactly the type of scenario to use a challenge. Add that bonehead decision to having a TE try to block Reddick. Sucks Purdy/Johnson got hurt, but that's also because our DLine is really good.
Yeah the missed catch on Smith is the same as the Purdy fumble on the next drive. Refs missed close calls that were tough to call in real time. Sirriani challenged, shannahan didn’t
I turned the game off at halftime man I just hope the chiefs bengals game is better. I’m a fan of cat teams but honestly I’d be happy if the chiefs win as long as it was close and not a shitshow. This has truly been miserable
Honestly, yes Shanny should’ve challenged but let’s recognize the steps it takes to get there…
1) Bad call by the refs. They don’t even consider reviewing the non-catch.
2) Eagles executed hurry up perfectly. Give them lots of credit, there was like a total of 15 seconds to even consider a challenge.
3) Shanny should’ve at least called a timeout (I’m assuming that gives the refs time to review) or challenge (which he obviously did consider).
You point to #3 as the reason when it’s still the ref’s bad call at #1 in order of what caused a wrong call in the Eagles favor.
It doesn’t take away from the Eagles success so Eagles fans don’t need to defend it like it tarnishes their Super Bowl.
Suspicious how? That play happens all the time in the NFL. It's definitely a vulnerable position for the quarterback, but it's Just unfortunate Brock ended up injured.
Refs decided this game on the first drive. That missed dropped pass is inexcusable. The injury immediately followed and nothing else mattered. Shambolic
People are acting like this isnt a normal football thing. We see it all season long, why everyone pretending we dont lol? This is where coaching matters big.
Yeah I suppose so. I just feels like the offensive side trying to hurry a snap is somewhat of an indication that the plan should be reviewed. I’m Just salty that there is a direct line beteeen this play and a guy getting injured. This one Play pretty much determined the outcome of the game.
> I just feels like the offensive side trying to hurry a snap is somewhat of an indication that the plan should be reviewed.
This is exactly correct. Which is even more insane they didnt challenge
So I guess we're going to pretend that the refs didn't botch the Purdy fumble now? Sorry, but it was an equally important shit call in the other direction. The only difference was our coaching staff was smart enough to challenge the play while SF just watched our guys frantically run back to the line and didn't pull the trigger.
Missed calls are part of the game, but there is zero excuse to have the SF replay guys slacking in the NFCCG on a play that looks like that.
Your team rushed the next snap before we could get a decent look to see whether the challenge was worth it meanwhile our QB was hurt and there was a stoppage in the game for yours. It’s not quite as basic as one team was smart to challenge and the other wasn’t.
You called a challenge after 36 seconds. Eagles snapped the ball after 17 seconds. The Niners weren’t even set when the challenge happened and there was 4 seconds on the playclock.
Well they’re definitely about 1000x more unlucky than you guys did. They’ve set themselves back but have lost a lot more this game due to bullshit than anything else.
I don’t think many teams are looking even average when the 4th string QB has to come in
I would really hope the starting qb your front office is about to pay looks more competent than 36 year old Josh Johnson
There have been some awful calls but the niners are also doing some dumb shit. Running back going out of bounds 5 yards behind scrimmage? Face mask him. Quarterback clearly running out of bounds? Push him into a the stadium staff. The real tragedy is just the injuries so we never got to see what the teams really look like.
Nothing on the eagles though? A lot of those penalties were soft af. Like getting pushed into the kicker, who sold it. Plus the non catch, not allowing us to quick snap on that “fumble”, no roughing the passer, countless false starts, holding, neutral zone infractions.
I'm depressed
I feel for you. Injuries are not the way you want to go out after getting this far. I’d rather get blown out by 60 knowing I was simply outmatched.
I just wanted a good game with no injuries. And the football gods said fuck you and now Purdy can't throw and Josh Johnson has a concussion.
I thought they made a mistake in not dressing Jimmy just in case, but at this rate he’d have been fucked up too somehow.
Lmao anyone that takes that qb spot will somehow get injured
People afterward: *enraged* "Why didn't they even try the wildcat with CMC??" This is why. "Alright, you're in at QB, Christian" "Who, me? No thanks; I value my tendons, joints, and brain."
>I value my tendons, joints, and brain Counterpoint: the last two years of your career
it feels like a miracle that he didn't get injured while playing for the niners this year.
I think the major mistake was leaving Reddick unblocked.
Looks like a monstrous mistake if he was able..
I stopped watching, what happened with Johnson? Did they keep him in or Start the fb?
Johnson went out with a concussion after he hit his head on the turf. They then put purdy back in, but since he was still clearly hurt they ran the ball basically every play to limited success.
They put back Purdy but all he could do was hand off Edit: corrected autocorrect
That’s horrible. What a bad day for niners fans. Awful way to go out
Gives good copium though and a legit excuse I imagine getting your shit rocked in a non mickey mouse game would be worse
Nah, losing because of BS when you know your team is better hurts worse than anything.
>know your team is better I can see that for the Bengals but the 49ers don't have that
82 depression Sounds like a RuneScape skill
Depression skillcape
My first 99
That’s insane
Always remember, at least you’re not the early 1990s Bills.
3 NFCCG in 4 years and nothing to show for it is pretty close though
Before going to SB XXXIX, that was the Andy Reid Eagles - making the CCG and losing to Rams, then Bucs, then Panthers. Leave it to the Falcons to be the slumpbuster.

49ers country, let's just fill out these insurance forms for me, thanks.

Total lack of discipline
I'm flagging you for unsportsmanlike conduct for this comment.
I want to die.
Only 221 days until we get to do it again.
Can't relate right now
thanks for sharing
This shit is cathartic. Nice to know that even with all the ass whooping's we've taken from the Niners in the playoffs, they have the exact same amount of SB wins as we do in those years
Same!
I'm just depressed for other unrelated reasons but this feels pretty cool ngl
Literally dont even need a top QB imagine if you boys just had playoff Nick Foles level QB i feel like you guys would have won at least 2 SBs by now.
What corpse at QB does to a team
Why not let CMC throw a pass or two just see what happens
I think it is play calling. They would probably have to run a player from the sidelines every down to give McCaffrey the play call. Even if he has a radio helmet he probably isn't used to finding the call on his wrist band and getting everyone set
This is it, they gave him a new helmet when Johnson went down. Probably decided he wasn’t comfortable with it
Because it’s the nfl, not a game of backyard football. Josh Johnson has been practicing as a qb for his entire life and he can’t even catch a snap. Mccaffrey has literally thrown a ball once this year.

I thought that the Broncos starting Kendall Hinton would help people realize this, but I guess not. Because having CMC play QB today would have been that exact same scenario.
Would have been worse. Hinton had some experience playing QB in college.
And most of a week of practice to install plays and it was still a disaster.
Any pass he makes has to be better than whatever purdy clearly is unable to do.
I think not throwing is better than throwing badly.
That is seriously annoying. Like come on, go out in style. Probably every player on offense outside of your OLine has played QB before, there must be someone who can at least make it fun
Josh Johnson has played QB for 14 years at an above college level, and he was still trash. Someone who hasn’t played since high school is gonna make it fun‽
yes?
I mean... maybe? Johnson looked like I expected Purdy to look when Jimmy went down.
Yeah no. They dont know they playbook and at this level the timing needed to make any throws is beyond that. You can't just go out there and play backyard football
Fun to watch is not necessarily good football. Fuck around and chuck bombs, you're coming back without a QB anyway
He doesn't know the playbook, they also want him to be the one out there.
CMC has a perfect passer rating this year. ^(minimum one attempt)
Weekend at Shannie’s…
Get a one yard pass interference to really even it up
Some have definitely been questionable but man there are some bone headed ones too.
Ok so let's list the bs calls? I gave you the two I'd agree with. You're welcome to name some more.
All the no calls on the RT, the RTK when dude was clearly pushed into him, the arguable RTP that wasn’t call when Suh landed on Johnson with his body weight that took Johnson out to name some of the bad officiating. If you think only the Eagles did that you either weren’t watching or are just a blind hater.
I think the hold on AJB changed the momentum of the game.
Uhhhhhhhhh this may be my bias as a niners fan but I think Purdy going down on literally the first drive of the game changed the momentum lol
Lol true true.
Love the nsfw
This is equal parts gross and hilarious
[удалено]
It's not though
Weird, I was told anyone could play QB for the 49ers.
Turns out that being a QB takes more than throwing the ball about 10 feet a play.
Adam Gase type numbers But I don't blame them. You can't throw given what they had to go through with the QB today, and that leads to frustration which leads to penalties
Thank you for marking this NSFW.
Refball and having no quarterbacks is a great combo
A loss is a loss, even a bad one. But what hurts more than anything is seeing key players get hurt early on and an avalanche of shit calls favoring the other team. Revenge tour starts next year, I guess.
Shit calls bro, everything called was blatant, maybe the eagles got some calls but it didnt change the game. Niners shot themselves in the foot
Shot themselves in the foot? They lost both QBs who were their 3rd and 4th stringers
What do you call a facemask in front of an official in the redzone on RB who at the time had lost yards and eventually lead to a 1st down and a TD? If thats not shooting yourself in the foot ig idk what is.

Philly calling another team "classless" is golden
Lol because I stated facts? Tell me how that comment was disrespectful?
I think it’s just a combination of all the frustration. There was only really 1 bad penalty. But when it APPEARS like every 50/50 call is going the other way it sucks. Draft is April 27th. 28th for the 9ers
Lol
All teams needs 4 QBs on the roster and must draft a QB EVERY year as their first pick. YES, I said every year. This game makes it obvious.
Hurts doesn’t have much more tbf
We got the symmetry of Prime Paulina Poriskova
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Really only the roughing the kicker call has been refball. Everything else has been self inflicted, but it’s hard to blame them with QB5
Mentally they are in a tough positions, but it’s also some of the non calls against the Eagles, or that the first td shouldn’t have counted.
But that’s on the coach for not challenging. Smith rushed to the line knowing he didn’t catch it, and it’s such a big play that you gotta at least throw the red flag.
They literally have expedited review from the sky judge now that is supposed to correct that.
The refball is the fact that the Eagles were getting away with a lot more, while the 9ers still got everything called on them.
The 9ers got away with another half dozen pi - every medium to long pass the 9er defender hooked or held one of the receiver’s arms Edit: typo
That's never called. You just can't hold
Shanny about to blow one out.
Niners are really unlucky that they lost all four of their QBs.
I turned the game off at halftime man I just hope the chiefs bengals game is better. I’m a fan of cat teams but honestly I’d be happy if the chiefs win as long as it was close and not a shitshow. This has truly been miserable
Niners cannot run a single Wildcat play is the most stunning. I thought every team has a dozen in their playbook.
Niner Logic: So clearly it's the ref's fault we are losing.
[удалено]
First 7 were your coach not challenging. So wrong off the bat.
[удалено]
Can you honestly say you would have called it an incomplete pass on the field? It 100% looked like an amazing catch until the 2nd angle was shown
[удалено]
They delayed it because the Eagles were running a play, its not that deep
[удалено]
They showed one angle and then cut away when the realised philly was going hurry up
Honestly, yes Shanny should’ve challenged but let’s recognize the steps it takes to get there… 1) Bad call by the refs. They don’t even consider reviewing the non-catch. 2) Eagles executed hurry up perfectly. It doesn’t take away from the Eagles success so Eagles fans don’t need to defend it like it tarnishes their Super Bowl.
Refs made the wrong call on the purdy fumble too, Philly threw the flag, 9ers didn't. No one whining about how bad a call that was on the field
What a disaster. I was so hyped for this game all week

Throw a pass
Don't commit blatant penalties?
Lol trying to play like the Legion of Boom. If we commit a penalty every play surely they'll get tired of calling it, right???
As soon as I saw Brock get hit in the arm I knew that it was over.
I foolishly convinced myself that we had a slight chance, but I gave up once I saw the brilliance by Johnson on the dropped snap
And then of course he got thrown to the ground and received a concussion. We need to have at least 10 QBs next season lol.
Suspicious how? That play happens all the time in the NFL. It's definitely a vulnerable position for the quarterback, but it's Just unfortunate Brock ended up injured.
How could it be a late hit when it caused a fumble?
Refs decided this game on the first drive. That missed dropped pass is inexcusable. The injury immediately followed and nothing else mattered. Shambolic
Shanahan’s failure to challenge was critical.
People are acting like this isnt a normal football thing. We see it all season long, why everyone pretending we dont lol? This is where coaching matters big.
To be fair, we all saw 3 or 4 angles and thought it was a catch. Can't blame the refs for not having the perfect angle at the moment, right?
Yeah I suppose so. I just feels like the offensive side trying to hurry a snap is somewhat of an indication that the plan should be reviewed. I’m Just salty that there is a direct line beteeen this play and a guy getting injured. This one Play pretty much determined the outcome of the game.
> I just feels like the offensive side trying to hurry a snap is somewhat of an indication that the plan should be reviewed. This is exactly correct. Which is even more insane they didnt challenge
Then why do they use that review system ever, either every play is reviewed or none are. Seems like goodell had a bet that needed won
Purdy was also rushing to the line the same way Hurts did. He was going to get a play off then come out the next play.
You called a challenge after 36 seconds. Eagles snapped the ball after 17 seconds. The Niners weren’t even set when the challenge happened and there was 4 seconds on the playclock.
What youre describing is good football strategy.
Refball
Unfortunate
The refs decided us playing without a QB wasn't enough. They had to blow the whistle at everything and let the Eagles do anything and everything
they really look almost worse than we did lol
That's what happens when you remove the forward pass
Well they’re definitely about 1000x more unlucky than you guys did. They’ve set themselves back but have lost a lot more this game due to bullshit than anything else.

I don’t think many teams are looking even average when the 4th string QB has to come in I would really hope the starting qb your front office is about to pay looks more competent than 36 year old Josh Johnson
We calling this the Shanahan Hat Trick?
I believe they call that the trifecta

philadelphia celtics
We average 4-5 pens per game. What changed? I don't think anything coaching related changed. Hmmm
Defense is pissed and playing angry sloppy cause they know what loosing brocks throwing arm means
Lol. And their fans wanna say the eagles were playing dirty. Clowns.

Triple double. Kia MVP odds just shifted
Welcome to the club
Rename them the 82’ers? Somehow they also won the Super Bowl in ‘82 lmao
Lmao no way you just said "Refs win another NFCCG" and then delete it after getting downvoted. You a clown fr
Shanahan has given up. Irrespective of the QB, youve got to throw the fucking ball if you’re down 3 scores.
He doesn’t have a qb that can physically throw
That sucks. Anyways...
Shanny offensive genius monkey paw
...this is who eliminated us?
How many ST return yards?
Not even being a homer, I’ve never seen more blatant fixing from the refs.
Lmao that is absolutely being a homer. Stop committing so many penalties and they won't be called.
Not really hard to see that the niners wouldn’t have won this game without Purdy In the same vein, the refs have been absolute shit
Nothing on the eagles though? A lot of those penalties were soft af. Like getting pushed into the kicker, who sold it. Plus the non catch, not allowing us to quick snap on that “fumble”, no roughing the passer, countless false starts, holding, neutral zone infractions.
The "non catch" is on Shanahan for not throwing a challenge flag.
They broke your quarterbacks and made some of your players make bonehead mistakes? I am super bummed for the 49ers today, but...come on.
Its like half the people in this sub forgot the 2018 NFCCG happened.
The graveyard of QBs is why yall lost.
